Help guys i use an hp pavilion dv6 with core i7 processor and 6 gig ram but the gpu of the system is Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 ‎(PS3.0/VS3.0)‎
and the vram is just 64 mb so the laptop cant really play a lot of games well. Please is there a way for me to increase or change any of these two or even both. THANKS

You can change your dedicated video ram by accessing the BIOS menu at startup.

Windows 8 supports secure boot so it cannot have an issue with it and in some cases requires it.

I have been trying to understand the UEFI. we are all use to bios, ain't we ?
Most Laptops I come across are bios and not UEFI. I only found about UEFI last year, so
still learning. Lol

It does if the installation OS is not UEFI. He should probably need to disable the 'Secure Boot' mode in the BIOS before doing the installation with the Windows OS he is trying to use.

I doubts he would be able to edit UEFI on windows 7 machine.
If it is windows, he might be.


@ user you could try

Press the Windows (Image: icon_Windows8_key.png) key + C, or swipe in from the right edge of the screen to open your Charms.
Click Settings.
Click Change PC Settings.
In PC Settings, select General.
Under Advanced startup, click Restart now. The system will restart and show the Windows 8 boot menu.
In the boot menu, select Troubleshoot.
In the Troubleshoot menu, select Advanced options.
In the Advanced options menu, select UEFI Firmware Settings.
Click Restart to restart the system and enter UEFI (BIOS).
The Windows 8 boot menu will also show automatically after Windows 8 fails to start successfully three times.

It is similar to sata native mode and compatibility mode for hp bios
windows vista,7 and wanting to downgrade to XP or vice versa. Lol

I was just checking the specs of the laptop and realised it was
pre-install with windows 7. User could have mentioned exactly what happen
then, we would know what to do.

MY PROBLEM AGAIN
I can't install any O.S on my hp 655 laptop. even though it was pre-installed with windows 8, Installing windows 8 back is still impossible. I heard there is something like "UEFI" settings I need to go through in the bios setting but still couldn't do that.

UEFI should not pose any barrier to your installing an OS. Are you using a windows 8 DVD?

Given the above, I would suggest you restart the laptop
and keep pressing f10 for bios until you see bios utility or
uefi bios utility. let us know if you see uefi in the bios.

Also, what happened when you try installing windows 7 ?

Any errors message ?

Although you were not able to make it to naija state, the laptop has now been fixed. This led me to believe that
Nigeria has gone too far than i first thought. It surprised me to know that the part were available within an hour!

If you took the processor out yourself, you should be able to take the memory ram out.
Take 1 out and leave one in then test the laptop do the same for the other one.

restart the laptop and keep presing f2 or f12until you see bios utility
use the arrow keys to navigate to power management
or diagnostics until you see the battery status as idle or replace.

After prompting you for start repair or after automatic start up repair you would see advance option select it then safe mode and follow previous instructions. If you didn't see advanced options. Let the automatic repair do is job then it should prompt you for do u want to restore by safe select yes and follow prev instructions. If no joy restart the machine and keep pressing f8 non stop keep going until u see safe mode. It seems you are using windows 8

The laptop is a toshiba A300 intel 4gb ram. The laptop was purchased from
Uk in good working order, however it began to shut itself down.

I have told him to use it on a flat surface and to put some stones underneath to
enable movements of air, the problem continues. He said the fan was not rolling.

I got him to the bios and it turned off again, however the laptop stays for an hour when
left to cool down. This is a job from me to you, if you can, do you sort it out there and there
or do you take it away? let me know cost, so i can give him the money to give you after
fixing the problem. I honestly think the nigeria temperature has contributed to it.

I want to believe that you're able to do it, rather than sending him another one.

I'd advise you to google your operating system type, follow by windows installer.
A long term solution is to install windows update. If you choose to install windows update ensure
that your modem is topped up. it does consume a lots of megabytes

disable any update such as windows updates and other updates. for example some software are programmed to
install periodic update such as hp update assistance and many more. you'd be glad you did.

When I try to install any one of them it always asks for serial number which is not on the disc or on the pack! Without the serial number, I can't move foward from there.

when i charge it sometimes, it refuses to charge. it switches on of course but the battery indicator shows 'plugged in but not charging? ' my battery dat lasts for 2hours b4 now lasts for 30min.

when it finish tick do not show this message again, then see if it flickers

if it does restart and keep pressing f8 go to safe mode, all the icons will be big

that's fine. see if you'd get the flicker screen in safe mode after that get back to normal

I tried to open an application but the app requires .net framework 3.5 so i clicked on download and the download was not going because i waited for like 10mins and i was connected to the internet. What am asking now is that is there a way to install it offline because i have downloaded the setup with my phone on microsoft website but still directing me to the internet.
