Babprosper20:
yes..i already know that and i have unchecked evrything apart from avast..still to no avail
LordReed:
Not all running programs show up in startup items. Some work as services in the background, even avast has some services running in the background.
Press win key + r and type msconfig in the box that appears and press enter. In The msconfig window click on startup and uncheck all the nonessential apps. OK it and reboot. Let's see if that helps.
Dear Babprosper20,

What is the full make and model, for example Toshiba P300-20H?

Click start, computer, system properties and tell us the RAM memory,
for example 4GB. Do you have dual Operating systems, for example
Windows 7 and Vista installed on the laptop ? Yes or NO

I take it you don't have Norton, do you ? Yes or NO

Hold down the windows key and the letter R, a box would appear
type in wuapp and press enter. It should state installed update or
installing windows update. Look for options to turn windows off and
see if any improvement. if it doesn't turn it back on.

Are you using the laptop on a flat surface, as in the air vents is not blocked as this may
prevent proper ventilation. Can you hear the fan running, put your ear near the air vent ?

Is the air hot ? If the laptop is still slow you better cleaning the laptop and
start afresh. what is the make and model of the laptop ? Where I live, we
check the basics and if it still has the same problem , we reformat the laptop.

We consider factors such as time, cost and long term benefits of cleaning and
starting again. If you're still having the same problem, look for onegig or adetwin
on this forum, they'd offer you a chargeable service.

Pls what cuold be d cuss of this problem, could it be the Graphics card? The screen is tested ok. Pls Pros. Help out.
Thanks
How did you test the screen, for example laptop displayed okay when attached to a monitor ?

What is the full make and model, I can see it is a medion, isn't ? The full model is at the back of
the laptop on a white sticker. I think you may need to contact adetwin or onegig on this forum to
offer their advise. It might be a hardware problem.

Tolzeal:
Yes..Make a graphics update
Given Tolzeal advise. Could I ask you
to restart laptop and keep pressing F2 for bios or
Del key to enter the bios utility. you'd see a blue screen.

Is the screen okay in the bios, if it isn't, is a hardware issues.

Look for adetwin or onegig for repair.

bright007:
OK sir.....but how do I upgrade my graphics driver?
Tolzeal:
if it's flickering screen, dont make a conjecture. Graphics driver mostly caause this problem.
Dear Bright007,

I referred to Tolzeal suggestions and was wondering if you could get a VGA cable and connect your laptop to
a monitor. If you're not sure how to connect it to a monitor, use Google and search for connect
laptop to monitor, google will guide you through. you may have to press fn and f5 together to transfer your
laptop display to the monitor. If it flickers on the monitor screen, it is a hardware problem. Search for onegig or adetwin on this
forum. They may offer a chargeable service.

If you cant get a monitor, restart and keep pressing f2 or use google to research how to get to bios on your laptop
you'd see a blue screen bios setup utility. if you the screen flickers on the bios setup utility. it is a hardware problem.

Dear Olaztan,

Where did you bought your laptop/desktop or windows 7 from ?

Your copy of windows is not genuine, i.e. fake copy.

If you can get into windows save your data on an
external usb drive and get an original copy of windows.

I may not be of help but that's the truth, moreover I would
have been of help if I am a nigeria resident. The advice have give is
the correct one. Therefore, look for adetwin, onegig or zyzxx on this forum , they
would offer a chargeable service. I have using computer since I was 6yrs old

This Hp model has a recovery partition that is used to reset the system in the
event of a virus or a system failure. Could you click start, computer

and reply back with what's on the screen , for example, C: Recovery D

Thanks, yes I'm in Nigeria. The wifi strength symbol is crossed out with a red X.
I downloaded and installed a broadcom driver from hp website earlier, it didn't help. Perhaps I didn't get it right, what precisely am I suppose to download and install? Is it the broadcom stuff or the intel(R) wifi link thing?
Thanks.
Please click start, computer and system properties. Look down for windows 7 ultimate or professional. Google the laptop make model number and put drivers at the end and download the precise driver's, e.g Intel wireless. Test the wireless. If no joy go back to the website and download hp wireless assistant install and it and restart your machine then try again. Can other devices connect to the network

Do you have a wireless usb modem such as mtn wireless router

You may have to uninstall the previous version through device manager. You know how to get device manager.

yIkEsDuDe:
Dear Deji2009,

I am so happy you responded, thanks so much. I'll try to respond to all your comments and questions in the same order you made them to the best of my ability.

I use the wireless switch and not the fn+f8 option and the colour changes from orange to blue accordingly everytime I touch it. But I'm always prompted to turn it on using the switch everytime I do a diagnostic and ofcourse the switch is on blue when system starts up!

In device manager, under network adapters there are:
*Bluetooth Device(Personal Area Network)
*Bluetooth Device(RFCOMM Protocol TDI)
*Broadcom Netlink(TM) Gigabit Ethernet
*Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN

Yes I have always used the wireless to connect before this issue.

I have done system restore 2ce now and no change still.

Yes my laptop came with windows vista but I changed it to windows 7 ultimate a long time ago

version of windows is activated

No, I dont have wireless assistant installed

BIOS version; I'm not quite sure but I saw stuffs like 1.0.15.0
Date: 07/04/2008
ROM revision: 68PDD version F.05

I have deselected the "allow the computer to turn off device to save power" but the problem persist even after restart.

I hope these helps, thanks again.
Visit hp website and search for
Your laptop model. Please select windows
7 ultimate or professional, it depends on
Your version. Please check carefully.
Then download wireless drivers that is up to date

Are you in Nigeria and is the WiFi strength red on the desktop.

My HP Compaq 6730b laptop wifi suddenly stopped working. The wifi switch turns blue when I switch it on but when I try to connect to a network, I don't see any connections. I do a diagnostics and it says wireless switched off, meanwhile it is on! please help. My OS is windows 7 (32bits). Thanks
Dear yIkEsDuDe,

I was pleased to read the above description, in that it start the machine make, model and operating system type.
This enables technician to narrow down the problem and come to a solution. however, it is important the a user like
yourself ensure that the diagnostics are carried as instructed.

How did you activate the wireless, for example fn+f8 or a wireless switch ?

Use google to research how to get to device manager and
look for network adapter, click the +sign and tell me what's
underneath. Have you ever connect wireless ? if yes, please
use google to research system restore and select a date when the
internet works and restore it.

This laptop came with Windows Vista® Business, isn't it ?

Would you open my computer through the start menu and
click system properties, is version of windows activated ?

Can the wireless turn on and off, please verify this.

Do you have Hp wireless assistant installed ?

furthermore, restart the laptop for me and keep pressing
f10 for bios and L@@k at the main section, what is the
bios version, for example Version: F.20(8 Dec 2011)

On the other hand Hp (2014) argued that you could

"Disable wireless device power management options
Most wireless devices can be configured to turn off power to reduce the power drain on the battery. This is usually not a problem when the notebook is connected to an AC power adapter. However, when operating on battery power, the adapter can be turned off to save power. To disable this power setting, do the following steps.

Click Start , enter device into the search field, and then select Device Manager from the list.
Double-click Network Adapters to expand the list, right-click on the wireless (WiFi) adapter in the list, and then select Properties.
On the properties window for the adapter, select the Power Management tab, and then de-select the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option.
Close the Device Manager, restart the notebook PC, and attempt to reconnect to the wireless network"

According to super user (2009) "Try to go to the Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management. In the Disk Management part, remove the drive letter for the raw partition. It should prevent Win7 from asking you to format the partition, while letting you mount the partition in TrueCrypt. If it doesn't work, you could try this suggestion, which is to use Autokey to automatically dismiss the messagebox when it appears"

On the other hand partition tool (2004) argued that you would be able to "Recover and get data back when encounter "Disk/drive is not formatted..." error" http://www.partition-tool.com/resource/disk-not-formatted.htm

Keep Evening crib!! Good to be here
Dear deplsucell,

Tolzeal advice you to knock out Norton, I'm not so sure
if Norton is the current anti virus or not.

Here are my recommendations

-Use google to research add or remove programs
in control panel. Look on the list of programs
and let us know the type of antivirus you have.

I think your laptop came with a trial version that's
now asking you for another one. Open the current anti virus
and let us know the status, i,e. risk or X/red sign.

If you have norton installed, you'd need a norton removal tool.

You'd need to scan your computer for virus. Alternative you
could use malwarebytes

Hello, please I need your help.
After I finish installing mtn f@stlink on my pc(windows 8.0 ), I noticed that each time I plug in my modem and its connected, Immediately am about to open a browser then this statement keep popping up;
"Your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we will restart for you." Its blue in color.
It started since saturday and I have waited for it to restart itself but to no avail. I have switched it off, removed d battery and den it started to work again .
But note: I still can't browse with my pc cos the same stuff keeps popping up each time I try to connect.
I will be grateful if this issue can be resolved. God bless you.
These are my recommendations.

.Ensure that your Mtn is compatible with windows 8

. Have you saw this error message before ?

. If not, restore your computer using system restore.

Google system restore and follow the instructions.

Select a date before the problem started and restore it to
an earlier time. If you are still receiving the same error message,
restart the computer and keep pressing f8 until you see advance option then
select disable automatic restart on system failure.

It would restart so write down the error message and give it to us.
