Very apt. These mentalities are culturally nurtured and transferred as indispensable qualities. There are age-long axioms, prominent music, movies and mantras to support this ideology that has impoverished many. We ain't going anywhere as a nation with such mindset grossly imbibed and displayed by both state and non-state actors. In 2019, all the 36 states earned a combined revenue of N3.8 trillion. Barely a year after, there's nothing to show forth. Many Nigerians handle(d) so much money in their active years, but are unable to account for the value of those funds only to regret in later years. Sometimes, I weep when I see the financial outlook and handling of some so-called poor people. One can tell that they'll forever remain more until they learn the principles of management and multiplying wealth. emmanuelewumi: The few who save, spend most of their savings on frivolities and the cycle continues Satoshi2019: Financial illiteracy. Instant gratification. Money is meant to be spent attitude. Just to mention a few |

Are Nigerians poor because they lack money OR because they lack money-management skills? This is an excerpt from an article on the savings culture of Nigerians. “According to the International Monetary Fund, the gross savings rate in Nigeria* stands at 15%, far below China at 49% and even below the savings rates in South Africa and Angola. This discrepancy between the Nigerian attitude towards savings and our actual actions begs the question – why do Nigerians fail to save?” Source: https://www.stearsng.com/article/the-luxury-of-saving?__twitter_impression=true |

Quite an impressive profile. His education, exposure and experiences (3Es) offered more than the relationship most persons allude to. Chances are that those (3Es) also gave him access to the General’s daughter, given that she was also thrilled by his composition. Okay then. I didn’t get any communication on that, neither have I experienced any issues with the process. It’s all good! DexterousOne: I actually got the mail about those restrictions months ago
My bank I use for dorm account sent it to me
That's why some were saying what they are saying
Saying it's not valid just like that is surprising
Maybe it was not followed up Maybe it was done on a bank by bank basis
I dunno. |

It makes no difference. The touted policy of limited transfer on cash deposit and vice versa is not valid. No bank has notified me nor effected it. I've withdrawn thousands of wired USD this year and I have also transferred thousands of cash USD deposited over the counter. People should verify info they share in the public domain and avoid speculations, rumours, sentiments and pessimism. Best! mymadam: Did you originally deposit the USD INTO YOUR domiciliary account in CASH or via ELECTRONIC TRANSFER? Please confirm. Thank you. |

You really didn't have to go through that stress. A lot of persons merely speak without core experience or knowledge of the issues at stake. I made withdrawals in thousands USD from two banks, the same week they were hitting the polity with unconfirmed reports. Knowledge breeds confidence. chidekings: due to things i read here that its impossible to withdrew dollars from dorm account,i went to fcmb today and made a dollar withdrawal and process takes less than 10 mins.we should verify our reports before saying them. |

You're too magnanimous with your time. It's unnecessary to present logic and facts to a troll who's simply interested in disrupting a valuable thread with baseless arguments. By now, everyone should be able to see through this guy and avoid him. ojesymsym: And in response, more than one person said they withdrew today, you then change this blanket statement and said maybe it was *change. So my question is how much is (*not change)? So please clarify, a) is it that the banks as at today are not giving USD again, b) or are giving only to those who request for *change in USD? If your answer is a, then earlier today, USD was withdraw in cash from the bank. If your answer is b, what is the maximum banks are now giving? Those are my simple queries sir. |

Sorry about your misfortune. As always, fake agents cash out on people with desperation, ignorance and nativity. Secrecy is another tool they use. They tell their victims not to tell anyone so it won't cast. But all na format. People need to be more enlightened and thoughtful about things, migration inclusive. Consult people wey sabi. In fact, a lot of travelling processes can now be done online by anybody without the assistance of any agent. tolajay: Let me start from the end.
Right now, my father has a heart problem due to the shock of failed migration abroad after spending millions of Naira through a travel agent.
2005: The urge to travel abroad was so intense, given the pecks that come with living and working abroad.
We got to know of a travel agent through a family friend, who assured us that the agent has good network, influence and track record to help actualise the dream of travelling abroad.
So, we started application process to the United Kingdom.
Money were expended, time committed and hope expressed.
After spending above the estimated fee, the agent kept asking for more. My parents sold up five plots of land to raise funds to give to the agent.
Long story short, the whole process ended in futility. More lost, time wasted, hope dismissed, trust shattered.
Till date, I and my family members still abhor anyone that tags him/herself a travel agent...My father will never recover from the effect of the dubious travel agent.
Please share your story/experience with travel agents, either positive or negative. |

It's only humane to be sympathetic to others' plight, considering the large scale impact of the fx market on prices of goods and services on the populace. E no mean say I go close my dollar account or reject dollar-denominated earning offers. Person wey dey cry dey see road. Your explanation falls inline with his thought, which he felt should be understandable to all, but that was not so because enlightened minds know that renting out a residential property doesn't convert it to a commercial property in the context of government classification. Hello, Just checking if had a closure on this issue. Also, I'd like to know (from you or anyone else with experience) if Eurobond payout are made in Dollar or Naira. Thanks. IamR: I got my statement almost 6 months of venturing into Eurobond and I saw that my capital was less of over 1k$ as at that time. I have applied for liquidation. I will write about it when I get it within one month as stated in their letter to me instead of 72hrs. Leaving the money with them will incur more losses. I have consulted one or two Gurus outside Nairaland and I think the best thing is to liquidate the investment.
Would I get it within one month? I am not 100% sure. My lawyer is on standby though. |

Thanks for sharing your thought. I'm interested in your personal journey through this. Did you do the CVS test? How did you cope with parental and family interest? timigreene: Good day, I was or will i say am also in your situation. My wife and I are both As too, we got married in 2015. Thanks to God we have a daughter following year. She was tested AS.
To shorten the long story, In advanced countries, there is no big deal, because there are facilities that can take care of the AS and AS of a thing.
If you are bouyant financially enough, you can go ahead with the wedding, there is a medical term called " Prenatal test" this test is to determine the Genotype of the fetus between 2-3months. This test is done in hospitals in lagos and i think it cost about 300k. The decision to keep or terminate the fetus will be determined by the outcome of the genotype.
So there is nothing to worry about because science and technology have made most tings easier.
you can also surf the web and research about PRENATAL TEST.

Please nairalanders i kindly need your advice on this family issue. my elder bro met this girl sometime last two years after having too many disappointments in relationship. he said he wants to finally settle down that he is tired of waiting and disappointments.
Now the serious problem is both of them are genotype AS, but my brother does not care, he still wants to go ahead with the marriage. He is saying he has faith and hope in God that nothing will happen. even my parents are not helping matters, my parents are strong church elders and they are even saying my brother should pray that God can change things.
I am so pained with my parents stand on this issue knowing the severe consequence that follows. i was hoping they would outrightly dissolve the relationship but no they are hoping on God. What pains me the most is that the girl herself is a nurse, she knows better than everybody but yet she is not considering that.
Right now i hate the girl because she is coming to ruin the life of bro's unborn children |
Travel › Travelling Desperation Will Increase In Nigerians Due To COVID-19 by deleson(op): 10:48pm On May 27, 2020 |
Thousands of irregular migrants are facing severe humanitarian conditions, due to the impact of the global coronavirus pandemic, said the Migrant Project.
Over 300 migrants are stranded on the Mediterranean sea, after several European countries shut their ports against migrants in a bid to curtail the spread of coronavirus, said the group in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to the group, thousands of Europe-bound irregular migrants from Africa are stranded in transit countries like Niger, Algeria and Libya living in unhealthy and overcrowded spaces without food, water and basic hygiene.
"The reality of the global pandemic leaves both regular and irregular migrants stranded, however, the burden is heavier on irregular migrants, especially those en route," said Tayo Elegbede, Media Lead, The Migrant Project.
He noted that migrants who had embarked on irregular journeys before the COVID-19 era are trapped in appalling conditions in unpleasant locations with no hope in sight given the limited humanitarian interventions for irregular migrants.
Elegbede expressed concern that the pandemic will lead to gross desperation to migrate irregularly due to the economic and social impact of the virus. The desperation, according to him, will lead to a rise in criminal acts, human smuggling, trafficking of persons and exploitation.
"COVID-19 has changed everything, migration inclusive. Countries have and will continue to redefine migration policies and pacts. Online and offline, criminal networks will devise and present new statics to swindle, smuggle and traffick unsuspecting potential migrants, particularly, the desperate ones. Hence, we urge Nigerians to be cautious of their migration decisions at the moment and post COVID-19," Elegbede said.
====
The Migrant Project (TMP) is an awareness-raising campaign focusing on irregular migration in Nigeria. Launched in March 2018, the aim of the campaign is to raise awareness and fill information gaps among the Nigerian population in order to enable Nigerians to make informed decisions about the risks and realities of irregular migration.

Travel › Irregular Migration To Europe May Increase Due To Easing Of Lockdown - Europol by deleson(op): 9:08am On May 24, 2020*. Modified: 9:26am On May 24, 2020 |
The easing of the coronavirus lockdown across Europe may increase the exploitation of irregular migrants by organised criminals, EU’s policing agency has warned. In its latest report, Europol noted that irregular migration slowed down during the coronavirus lockdown but it would increase after the restrictions are lifted. “A loosening of travel and movement restrictions is likely to result in an increasing movement of irregular migrants… as they have been largely unable to make movements during the lockdown,” Europol said. The report stated that there could be a rise in the exploitation of migrants, particularly in the agricultural sector and the sex work industry. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8323813/Easing-EUs-coronavirus-lockdown-result-surge-illegal-migration-Europe.html
