Politics › Re: Oyo: I Will Contest And I Will Win – Oriyomi Hamzat Fires Back At Critics by delpee(f): 3:07pm On Jun 16, 2025 |
Eriokanmi: True but Seyi was still very popular, even at the time when he was losing elections. Elections were massively rigged in favour of ajimobi as orchestrated by Tinubu. After ajimobi's tenure, seyi contested again and oyo people did the needful, even beyond his previous record. Tinubu kept vigil in Ibadan, he deployed his thugs to kidnap seyi overnight, ahead of the inec's declaration. The Ibadan boys got the information much earlier and cordoned off the entry and exit points of the streets leading to Seyi Makinde's residence at orita basorun.
He was inside. His mum was shouting seyiiii, but I warned you not to do politics ooo. What else are you looking fooor. The boys said he shouldn't worry and told mama to also calm down. Those thugs came in buses in the middle of the night but oyo youths repelled them and kept vigil overnight. That was what saved seyi. He'd have been kidnapped and forced to sign an agreement saying he's not interested in elections anymore for the sake of his life and children's. They'd now declare oyo elections inconclusive in places where seyi had won massively and rig it in favour of the apc. Yoruba adage would say, aseni nse ara rę(which literally means, you may think you're hurting somebody, not knowing you're hurting yourself) . Same seyi made his winning in oyo as president possible. LP or the PDP wouid have win oyo in 2023 cos he's not popular there . Seyi became a veritable tool for him.
Tinubu threatened my uncle by the name Aeroland too in alimosho. His sins are much here and a good reason he'll always lose here. My uncle won the federal house of reps seat. He had been known for his community-based projects even without interest in politics. He sank many boreholes, erected street lights and people said, he should please run , so he could do more at the federal level, the offer he first rejected but later accepted. After winning as pdp man, Tinubu sent his people to meet him. He gave him an open cheque which he rejected. He sent another batch threatening him and family, should he remained adamant. The man consulted with stakeholders in alimosho that politics isn't by force, that they should pls allow him step down and Tinubu had hus way. Insightful but very sad story of our politics. |

ElevationD: No matter what happened during the Abacha days, Nigerians lived well. Presently it is a complete shame. No government has made Nigerians pass through such misery, until APC entered power in 2015. Lived well ? Do you remember the reign of terror at all? The long strikes, scarcity of food etc, abacha stove, fear of the unknown, people disappearing or getting killed....It's an era that I don't like to remember. |

Benue people should please explain why this is so intractable. Can't they launch a security network like Amotekun or Civilian JTF as obtains in the North? |

Karlman: Fact is Igbo ancestors were at Ife, yes, same Ile Ife, and I heard it first from the Oni of Ife. What I don't know is if they were the first to settle there, and that is where the government should dig up in earnest search for truth and fact.
And as for those of you jumping up and down over what you know next to nothing about, the present Igbo is not planning to come back to Ife for any reason, in fact it was the Oni himself that was asking Igbos not to forget they moved from Ife.
Let the government set up a committee of enquiry to look into history.
Igbos have been in Ife which the Oni himself spoke about severally that Igbos were once at Ife, and same as benin.
I heard Oni of Ife in a video telling Igbo people that they moved from Ife in the olden days. Government should do a finding rather than dismiss the book entirely just to be politically right.
Going through comments on this threads showed how obviously there little number of learned people on nairaland. No brainstorming, no academic exchange, just blind and ignorant arguments from people who know next to nothing about the topic.
FYI Igbo ancestors were at Ile Ife, go and dig up. The question here is, we're they the first. The people close to Ife then are known as Ugbos not Igbos. They were in constant battle with Ife until they were defeated with the help of Moremi, who allowed herself to be captured by them in battle. They still exist today in Ondo State. Olugbo of Ugbo, Oba Akinruntan, is their king. |

Otan people moved from Otan Ile, near Oshogbo to the current location in between mountains and previously known as Otan Koto. They were actively Involved in the Jalumi war. The annual celebration of Odun Oluwa/Olua is a celebration of Gids goodness. He mysteriously saved them from the invading Jihadists. They and their horses couldn't enter the town. They were said to have fallen from the mountains to certain death. |
Politics › Re: Ephemeral Nature Of Power; The Case Of The Bamaiyi's Brothers by delpee(f): 9:40pm On Jun 11, 2025 |
ElevationD: If late Musa Bamaiyi was the head of state, he would have been a far worse dictator than late Abacha. Musa Bamaiyi raided car shops on Ojuelegba road, Victoria Island, Mobolaji bank Anthony way, etc and everywhere he saw car shops. He seized them all accusing car dealers of being drug peddlers. Many were tortured and many closed their shops for the fear of the man. He was very brutal and mean.
The story went out then that his senior brother, Ishaya Bamaiyi lost his wife to him, or the other way round. Anyway, one took over the wife of the other and they were never close. They disliked each other.
The elder one was the Army chief of staff. It was he who was detained, where he met Fred Ajudua and was swindled 2m dollars. While his brother was busy torturing people, he was a very wealthy man in dollars. I think the case remains in court till today.
Their days were horrible days for Nigerian citizens. The Chairman of the task force on telecoms was a very brutal person. I forgot his name. He was a Major from the Southwest or so. If you owed a huge sum in Nitel bills, they would easily invade your home, beat the hell out of you and force you both to bribe and pay the bills. The task force raided market women, seizing their goods, destroying their tables, arresting them, throwing them into Black Maria, trying them in emergency courts that same night and jailing them all. Many people languished in Kirikiri and Ikoyi prisons in Lagos, without their family members able to locate them.
Abacha government should not be experienced anymore please in this country. Hmm! A terrible era indeed. Living in fear on a daily basis then. We continue to thank God for His divine intervention before life became unbearable. |

Why is this massacre seemingly receiving little or no attention from FG?
