What's all this talk about debt and credit? I do not even know where to start. If you as an individual do not know how to use other people's money to create your own wealth and end up racking up debt, then that's your cup of tea. Rather than complain, learn and understand the system. The one major reason the private sector in Nigeria still drags on is simply because the country lacks a "workable" credit system; but then, folks like you will never know the importance of credit in any progressive society. While you complain about immigrants who are not able to get jobs, there are tons of immigrants out there who are doing very very well. The onus is on you as an immigrant (not the government) to make the best of what Canada has to offer. The govt on the other hand have been working with different organizations to remove restrictive policies so as to create more opportunities for immigrants. Today, Vancouver is city basically run by Asians. The Lebanese are immigrants who own properties and run enterprises all over the country worth billions of dollars; same with the indians while you are here crying because mummy did not give you milk. To succeed anywhere, including Nigeria, you have to adapt, learn the system and work hard. The same Nigeria that folks are crying is a hell hole is the same place foreigners are investing and multiplying their capital; same with Canada. And to the other misinformed individual, the healthcare system is free. Yes, even if you have cancer, you do not pay a dime (as far as you are a resident) except on drugs and if you have an extensive coverage through your employer, the cost is very minimal. Back to this topic, the freeze is only short term to clear some back log and modify the program. Canada is positioned to take in more immigrants but the current program is not adequately meeting today's needs. Lastly, immigration is not for everybody. It's a free world. mickjagger: |

I get your point. To your question, it's a shot in the dark. The downside is if you get an offer and you end up disclosing your status, be prepared to lose the offer. On the other hand, you may have impressed your potential employers that they'd end up giving you a shot. On the other hand, an employer that may be ready to sponsor you may retract their offer because you did not disclose this in your application. The point is, be aware of the risks and consequences of your actions and decisions that give you the best shot. It's a shot in the dark and there's no guarantee that the electronic filters will push your application to the top even if this sponsorship issue is taken away. Hence, while doing this, you should continue to search aggressively and expand your search parameters. A couple of ideas: - Try using agents (head hunters, etc) as well, if you have not done so. Since they get paid by the organizations if they fill a spot, they basically work for you. - Include your search across the border (into Canada). Canada is not much different from the US and the immigration programs are not as tight as the US. Goodluck! |

Please, do not send me mails asking us to call you or email you. Save yourself the hassle. I have outlined a few requirements. If you cannot comply with simple instructions, please do not waste my time (and yours). Lastly, this opportunity is for current undergrads or secondary students who just got admitted into university. Thank you! |
Education / Scholarship Funds For University Students by Delta007(m): 3:09pm On Apr 20, 2012 |
So, here's the deal. I'd like to help some young folks struggling to make it through Nigerian (and African) universities. We (a group of folks) have no formal structure in place yet but that is being worked on right now. In the meantime, this is for young folks who are struggling to make ends meet and have very little or no financial support to see them into university or through university. Conditions (All apply): 1. You are in financial difficulty 2. You need to have just been admitted into a Nigerian University (Public) and have had your WAEC results or you are currently enrolled in a Nigerian Public University. 3. Engineering or Medical Students will be considered before other students. 4. This scholarship can be renewed, year after year until you graduate. However, to maintain the scholarship, you need to meet a certain Grade Point Average and be of good behaviour 5. Upon receipt of any assistance, you will be required to provide value to your community in some fashion. 6. Upon graduation, you'd get a shot at doing a Masters degree in the USA or Canada if you wish to go down that path. How to Apply: Send an email detailing the following: - Your current financial condition and projected expenses (including shortfalls) - Your educational background and career ambition - What you plan to do with any educational assistance you receive - How you plan to give back to your community - Any other useful information. We may request more information to determine your eligibility. Here's what you should know - We am not a bank or some sort of "maga". This is not a fraud and do not try to defraud us; trust me, you'd regret it. - Please for the love of God, do not send me emails with "short-handed" words. I have taken time to make this post. You are expected to take your time to send any replies. There are no deadlines, no pressure; take your time to articulate your points. Remember, your writing style tells alot about you. - Unfortunately, not every application will get a response. The intent of this mission is to help one or two folks that may need it. We do not claim to have all the money but we will do our best to help you if you are shortlisted. - If we decide to pay your fees, we will be paying it directly to the university and we will be requesting your transcripts directly from the university to determine your eligibility; same with JAMB & WAEC. - Be rest assured, we will verify your background. - We will meet with you in person before we make a decision. You may post you enquires here on Nairaland. I'd try my best to respond but there are no guarantees you'd get a response. You may email your applications to 234alpha<AT>gmail. All the best. 3 Likes |
Family / Re: How Do You "Live" With An Adulterous Husband? by Delta007(m): 11:39am On Mar 22, 2012 |
(1) Is it a culture of adultry? There is nothing like the culture of adultery. Do not let anyone deceive you or your friend. (2)How does she stay married/faithful/loving him when she knows that he sleeps around and he is not repentant or doesn't care? The choice is hers. She can decide to accept it or decide to take a step and walk out of the relationship. In my book, marriage is to be enjoyed, not endured. The infidelity apart, this relationship is dead. So what do they do together as a couple? What's the point of the relationship? Hopefully, she does not get infected with an STD that will leave a scar for life before she decides to engage her brain. No matter the financial comfort he provides today, it is not worth it. As for the prayer part, I have often told folks, especially Christians that the greatest gift God has given to man after salvation is the brain and the freewill to make rational decisions. Rather than utilize this wonderful gift (brain), folks would rather wait for God to come down to correct a situation that has a simple fix. smh. (3) If she must remain as desires to do, how soes she develop a COLD HEART or COLD FEET towards him? I dunno. I fail to get the point here. 1 Like |

Family / Re: My Husband Does Not Want Me To Work by Delta007(m): 6:46am On Feb 28, 2012 |
@the OP, please ignore anyone that forces an opinion down your throat. The truth is, there is no right or wrong answer here. It all depends on what works for you, your husband and your kids. Every home is unique and what works for Patricia may turn out disastrous for you and your home. For every awful story of a housewife that has given up her career, there are several others you do not hear about that have been largely successful running the home front. I've seen professional ladies leave the pinnacle of their careers to become FT housewives and their only regret is they wished they had done it sooner. I have also seen ladies wishing they had not given up on their careers so early. So it really depends on what''s best for you folks and none of us understands the dynamics of your home. The bigger issue I see here is the insinuation that your husband is forcing his decision on you. I believe issues like these are better resolved as a team. You should be part of the decision making process so that you and your husband appreciate whatever sacrifices need to be made now and in the future. Also, I think alot of people do not know what it entails to be a housewife; it is a career of its own. I am not referring to those "housewives" who cross their legs all day watching TV. I mean ladies who keep the home running, manage the finances, draw up and implement programs and activities for the kids that challenge and stimulate them mentally, etc etc; that's what training kids is all about. Some women find it very rewarding, others find the traditional workplace as a way out. Personally, I could go either way with my spouse. I'd rather her fulfil her potentials as a career lady but I'd understand if she leans towards running the homefront full time. The latter decision makes our lives a whole lot easier. Furthermore, unless business is some sort of charity, not everyone is built for business. So the notion that your husband should open a business to keep you busy is an option but may also not be the best option, otherwise you may end up worse off financially. Lastly, goodluck! 2 Likes |

Travel / Re: Help Canadian Visit Visa Refused by Delta007(m): 4:32pm On Feb 13, 2012 |
I think there's a misconception here that needs to be corrected. There mere fact that an individual is married to a Canadian spouse does not necessarily make him/her eligible for the Canadian Permanent Residency program under the Family Class. The sponsor (Canadian Spouse) has to be living in Canada or has to show an intent with proof that he/she intends to reside in Canada. In this case, the OP has stated that he and his wife do not intend to reside in Canada. This means that he is not eligible for the program. He may as well apply for a visitor's visa if he just plans to visit. |

Politics / Re: Governor Okorocha, Where Are The Jobs In Imo State? by Delta007(m): 4:23pm On Feb 10, 2012 |
Unfortunately, a good percentage of the Nigerian population live in ignorance. Rochas (or whatever his name) may have promised jobs; but did anyone care to ask him how he'd create the jobs? Or does a governor just pull out jobs from his a$i$? Today, our governments on all levels are by far the largest employers with a largely inefficient workforce and a recurrent expenditure that keeps increasing; little wonder that we have no good infrastructure making it difficult and expensive to run a business in Nigeria. The private sector is almost non-existent. We should be advocating policies that will revive out private sectors (from the power reforms that have helped close down businesses and held us back for eons to unnecessary bottlenecks that stifle businesses from operating effectively and everything inbetween). Till then, you'd wait and keep hoping for one Okorocha to deliver on his promise. |

Travel / Re: Air Nigeria - My Experience - Please Advice by Delta007(m): 4:51pm On Dec 12, 2011 |
No offence, but you are surely pissing on your customers. An organization uses Interswitch to lure passengers for easy online instant payments/booking and then you place the onus on the customer for the money to be transferred from interswitch to the merchant's account. If you do not have a smooth partnership with interswitch or some third party, then, simply do not ask customers to book online. It's as simple as ABC. You cannot turn around and say we have not gotten the funds from interswitch when the customer has a confirmation. But then, again, this is Nigeria where customers do not know their rights and are used to manage manage! princedant: |

Politics / Re: How Would You Spend 4.97 Trillion-naira ($31.8 Billion) Nigerian Budget by Delta007(m): 1:06am On Oct 18, 2011 |
fuugee:To put things in perspective, Prince Edward Island is a small island and one of the poorest provinces in Canada with about 140,000 residents. They produce almost nothing and their annual budget is about $1.5billion. $3billion is what lots of mid size companies in the West will rake in annually during a recession. The question you should be asking is, "what is the jurisdiction of the Lagos government?" It's intellectually lazy folks that keep saying "dem they thief money" but when you ask "how much?", they cannot provide any factual numbers. To me, $3billion for Lagos with over 15million people is nothing when you factor in current expenditure. This is the reason why Fashola has opened his arms to private investors to work with them, and this is one reason you are at least seeing some small "traction" in Lagos. If he has to depend on allocation, there will be no major capital investments and you'd be the first to say they misappropriated funds. Again, this is not saying funds are not mis-used and pocketed; there's no excuse but it should be expected. Economic growth and corruption are not mutually exclusive! |
