The Montero sports is a sweet car to drive. Despite it being a full SUV, it has a sports mode button that delays gear shifts just like in a performance car. Driving up to 180km per hour is possible even on Nigerian roads. In a race with a friend one night coming from the club, I dusted the friend who was in his EOD with my Montero sports then... Despite this sweet drive experience, the valve seals have a penchant for dying before their time. My Montero sports then started the blue smoke of death thingy less than 6 months after purchase. I knew less about cars then but had consistently changed oil and filters regularly. In fact, there was a day I changed all the filters during service....fuel, air, oil etc. Someone has suggested that our lack of recommended oils in Nigeria could be the fault. I used the 20 w 50 Mobil XHP to service my cars then. It could be one of the reasons, it could not...I am not certain. I started a mental task of checking the exhaust of Montero sports I see on the road to check for the symptoms I noticed on mine....a slight smoke puff at acceleration and gear changes...almost all had the fever. To add salt to injury, my Montero sports started gobbling oil. A trip from Lagos to Ibadan required at least 1.5 litres of oil extra...same for return. AC was cold, transmission shifts fine, car handles well, even moves well but it was an oil addict and a smoke farter. I would really also like to get to the root of this matter and would really appreciate comments on the why and its prevention....no assumptions please. PS: problem only noticed with the Mitsubishi Montero Sports ( which is different from the Mitsubishi Montero) |

I was banned by a spam bot, which evidently is drowning in its own hebetude for commenting on this thread. I made a simple post offering an opinion on the OP's question. I was banned for 24 hours which just expired. If I get banned again for such a silly justification, I would not mind deactivating my account and maybe viewing as a guest forthwith |
2005 Model Passat Leather seats Ac Airbags intact Etc 250k... You should have known you would be spending some time and money trying to get it road worthy. You need to do a complete audit of that car. Get a good mechanic who understands how to work on VW manual transmission issues. Be ready to spend money and change parts. Manual transmission is easy to work on and I suspect the first part you should change is your mechanic. He should be able to troubleshoot it easily. |
yimikaa:I would be doing an article on comprehensive automobile security soon. This would detail everything. Thanks |
yimikaa:You are right. It has a great clientele....even thieves love it. There are ways to prevent its being stolen though .. |
diportivo:Good to hear...thanks |

Nigerians, whilst not the best at making cars, have a very genius way of naming them. They are not called those generic bland names like the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry or even Mercedes Benz. We give each model and design a specific name that stays etched, not on silver chromes strapped to the rear side of the cars from the factory, but in our minds and street parlance, the inventors, unknown and unsung. It is either a 'V-Booth', 'Baby Boy', 'Bullet', 'Bull-Dog', 'E.O.D', 'Pencil Light', 'Tiny Light' and erm...'Big-for-nothing'. No body buys just a bland Accord here. Nobody. Despite all the different import choices we have, one car brand and model stands out...The Toyota Camry XV20 which we call the Toyota Pencil Light, or 'tiny light' in some places. This Camry was manufactured between 1996 to 2001. The demand for the 'Pencil Light' right from the time it debuted even up till now has been unprecedented in the history of used cars in Nigeria. Everybody wanted one. Bankers, Lecturers, Students, Civil Servants...everybody who could not afford a brand new Prado or a Lamborghini. This car has been so popular it could have been part of our old trio if it came in two decades earlier. We would be reviewing why it was on the 'top 10 list' and some tips on its ownership. https://dennautoworld./2016/01/11/the-brilliance-of-the-toyota-pencil-light/ |
One of the pictures on this thread is of my car... |
at least 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles should be a good starting point Now back to some serious talk. The mileage is not as important as its maintenance history. Get a car that has been maintained as when due and with the right fluids and filters. In addition, check out the possible problems you need to fix. Read the OBD codes and take it for a test drive. If you like it, buy www.dennautoworld. |
Villager Quest Serena Sharon Galaxy Just try to add a bit and don't be afraid to consider good Nigerian used ones |

Hello I just created a WordPress Blog on Classic Cars In Nigeria. https://dennautoworld./ I decided to bring it up here for review and comments. I hope to make it better. I already have 78 unique views in 24 hours of launching and i believe it can only get better. All criticisms welcome thanks https://dennautoworld./ |
Hello Apologies for the delay. So many events going on at the same time. Sincere apologies,Please. This is the current state of the Volkswagen Beetle. I have recorded a video to show it 'as is' including engine running....a video, they say, is better than 100 pictures. I have also created a blog to document all my automobile projects (i have a lot on going and in the pipeline) The blog is https://dennautoworld./ Please feel free to visit and offer your comments and advice Many thanks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1y2W7PAaoW0 |
in order to organize all contents relating to Automobile appreciation, i have created a blog for that purpose. I will consistently update same with contents. Feedback and support also encouraged. The site is https://dennautoworld./ looking forward to comments |
I just did a little digging and got to know the following about the OP: She schooled in Kenya; BSC Anatomy She works in GTB She just got a job in 2013 and currently should not be beyond the second level grade in GTB She believes she is better than a lot of people. She has an air of pride around her. I won't be surprised if this is one of the reasons she is now divorced. She is a corporate hustler. She does not mind using sex to achieve any goal. She believes men must shiver at her sight. She dresses almost nude.....mini skirts, exposed chest dressing etc Above all, she is currently insecure Below is a screenshot of her desperation to use sex to achieve her bank targets. Now back to the matter, OP must realise that beauty is skin deep and resident only in the eyes of the beholder. It is not every man that cowers at the sight of a semi-nude spoilt girl...especially if that girl got her first job years after so many people decided to resign from theirs. Many people respect ladies who can show proficiency at their jobs rather than a glimpse of her privates. Since she is already with two kids (allegedly), she should remember that winning a beauty pageant even on Nairaland is no longer in her forte. Finally, if she decides to keep making scorn of others in her desperate bid at attention seeking, she has all hell's blessing to carry on

Don't condemn every opinion without doing some research. Below is an answer to this question which was asked on yahoo (a simple google search). Whilst i am not advocating for its use, it should be understood that it was actually used in the past to boost octane levels when this was around 60. Two questions came to my mind; is our octane level in Nigeria below 90 and does the mothballs sold in Nigeria contain pure Naphthalene. These should be the angle of discussion we explore as we try to unravel this. Let's also refrain from putting fellow Nairalanders on ridicule. Not everyone knows all about cars. I am of the opinion that cartalk is dry because people prefer to visit kazeems than ask questions here...at least the kazeem would not put him/her on a worldwide ridicule. Thanks CC: Kayne09 There are two types of mothballs. The old kind is naphthalene. It is ok to put this type in your engine, although I will tell you below why it may not be beneficial. (Naphthalene is actually still burned at my local power plant to produce electricity!) The newer style is paradichlorobenzene (moth chrystals). When combusted, the clorine in this forms hydrochloric acid - which will damage your engine. Naphthalene mothballs were commonly put in fuel in the 50s-70s as an additive when street racing/hot rodding etc. It worked by improving the octane of gasoline. Keep in mind, the octane rating of gas back then was fairly low - about 60. Naphthalene has an octane rating of 90 so it would boost the octane of gas considerably. Todays gasoline is rated 87(regular) to 92/93 (Premium). Obviously it would improve the octane of regular gas, but not noticibly. The theoretical maximum octane rating that you can achieve by mixing mothballs and regular gas is <90. If you add it to Premium gas, it will actually DECREASE your octane rating. So, if you already added some naphthalene mothballs to your motorcycle, you should be ok. Just don't do it anymore as continued use may cause carbon buildup and fouling of your sparkplugs. If you put in paradichlorobenzene, then drain immediately. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20060608044243AA7oPRw |
