CarMan1:Wow 1234 ....just posted something. You can clean your email address too as I did in the mention... You have an email. Warmest regards |
oohrhiifx:It was 230 USD when I posted the price. It is now higher.... Attached is the screenshot from Amazon. Now compute.... This is why I insisted on ensuring it was the MAF that was faulty because that part is kinda expensive

Bossforeva:No vex. The Cherokee was acquired on the fly. I saw it 'parked' at a mechanic workshop and covered in dust. I was told it has persistent and unresolvable overheating issues. The overheating was so bad the first engine was condemned. The owner then bought a tokunbo engine and issue still persisted. Owner got furious and abandoned the car. Now the issue was this, the radiators on early Cherokee Jeeps were the closed system radiators. A closed system radiator doesn't have a radiator cap on the radiator but on the expansion tank. The closed system radiator operates under pressure. Pressure is needed to push the coolant round the system. The expansion tank was the Achilles heel as it was made from a weak kind of plastic. Over time, it degrades and breaks. This causes a pressure loss and the coolant will simply not flow. The wonderful kazeems thought they did not connect the hoses well and tried different routings. The routing I met was where the heater core was deleted and its hoses were routed to the coolant expansion tank. So the water pump pushes water through one heater core outlet into the expansion tank and returns through the other into the same water pump....water was not even getting to the radiator! Apart from this, the car had a leather interior, functional automatic transmission with 4wd, a non functional AC but repairable, good tires plus its a Cherokee with real axles in front and back. It also came with the ever rugged 4.0 litre inline six engine that never dies. I hit Google and found out the cooling system could be converted to the more simpler 'open system'. I also knew there could be some more 'surprises' but i was ready to take the risk. I made a very ridiculous offer to buy 'as is'. My offer was too ridiculous I cannot state it here. The owner was ready to cut his loss and didn't mind selling just to cover cost of the new tokunbo engine. We had a deal. I have a wonderful guy in ladipo who helps to source parts. I downloaded the open system radiator from Google and sent jt via whatsapp to him. I told him to get it for me. He got it within 30 minutes and sent it to me via motorcycle. I took the new radiator to the kazeems and told them to install it. I also corrected the radiator hose routing. I deleted the heater core completely. Whilst installing, I googled the serpentine belt diagram for that engine and found out the water pump on mine was turning the opposite way. The kazeems had used a shorter belt. I got the OEM belt length online and bought a new belt and directed them on the proper Installation. We added water and started the car. No overheating. Vehicle was left to idle....no overheating. Took vehicle for a drive round with 4 kazeems who were so estatic and surprised. They had battled with the issue for months. I dropped them off and drive my new Jeep home. Vehicle had been 'worked' on by very funny rewires. So many wrong connections. The vacuum hoses....guages not working etc I have done so many DIYs on this car than I have done in my entire life. So many online resources. I armed myself with a multimeter and learnt how to test resistance, voltage etc and adjust to factory spec. Any 'rewire' who doesn't know how to use a multimeter is only good at replacing bulbs or relays. How will he for example confirm that the voltage going to the TPS is exactly 5 volts as recommended. How will he confirm that the resistance of the ground is less than 1as required? This car has been my training mule and I get better daily. It is my daily driver when I put on my cloak as a Farmer and my training cadaver in my quest to be a better automotive electrician. Oh...and the vehicle is also a classic too... 1990 Cherokee XJ.....The vehicle that started the real SUV rush

dumo1:Hnmmmmm This one is in full top spec...no need for restoration. Just buy and drive.... Fingers still crossed. Hoping I can conclude my part of the agreement within the time frame. |
I just dey observe o. Chibzee2, you have been an inspiration to me. You have forged ahead despite all obstacles.don't be bothered People think restoring a car in Nigeria is easy. It's not about the money. I have given my beetle to three different panel beaters and I still am not satisfied. My painter has loaded some panels with enough potty to set up a Volkswagen factory. Parts are not available and when they are, they are worse than what you want to replace. Low budget restorations are low budget restorations. Why should I spend a million naira to restore a Beetle in Nigeria? Finally, we all have personal finances to cater for. There are scales of preference especially when you have responsibilities. Not everybody has an unlimited bank account. If I decide to spend only 50,000 on a project, it is my cup of top tea. Saying you see nothing interesting in something that gives another person joy is not civil. |
0rex:Won't tell... ![]() |
There is a Peugeot 504 I intend buying very shortly. Keeping fingers crossed... ![]() |
EgunMogaji:...and women |
elshanAutos:Wow. This is a clean one. |
GAZZUZZ:The speed is not as important as the wheel flex ( properly known as lateral wheel movement) in determining when the wheel will finally pull out due to a hub or bearing failure. Bumps, turns plus anything that distorts the wheel's position will accelerate its separation. More on wheel failures here http://www.crashforensics.com/wheelandhubfailures.cfm

GAZZUZZ:From research and my humble driving along Lagos roads. Seen a pulled Honda at oworo end of the bridge at night too. Have you never seen one? |
I don't like Mitsubishi, maybe because of my 'smoky' experience with one. However, the following would be my recommendation. BMW E46. Wonderful driving experience. Gives you a new meaning to driving. Ensure you use synthetic engine oil plus coolant always. Lower arm issues on Nigerian roads....not much of a sweat if you can change it once a year avg. RAV4. Sweet ride. Good resale value. An advanced Toyota corolla. Be wary of thieves and armed robbers though. Honda Accord EOD. Flee from the V6. Avoid the fabric seat. Get a sweet leather copy with wonderful sound system. Ensure you are concerned about the shaft and hubs...they have a penchant for spoiling on third mainland bridge at 11pm.

autofreak1:Will update on it shortly....I have some other projects contesting for same front burner... |
autofreak1:Don't get distracted by those comments. They are nothing but comments. Nice restoration going on here. Thumbs up |
You used thinner to clean it? Seems to harsh |
oohrhiifx:is your engine the 2.5, 3.0 or 3.5 V6 variant? I assuming 3.5 but I need your conformation. That part costs #50,000 avg to Lagos. Brand new OEM standard. Thanks |

MathsChic:Is this a thread for confessions or to buy? Why spit on another man's merchandise? It might be old to you but it is still useful to million others. |
Trash....UK accent ko, gworo accent ni. Bunch of fake low-lifers... Can you even see how he accociates intelligence with accent.... |
oohrhiifx:Can you provide the error codes you keep getting. Manifold Air Pressure sensor is different from Mass airflow sensor...both sound almost same. Not to just sell a part to you but to ensure your car works |
oohrhiifx Confirm if this is the same picture. If you have tried different MAF and none seems working, have you confirmed via scans? Have you traced the wiring and ensure proper grounding.... Multi meter' tests
|
Simple to maintain by the average kazeem...like all other Toyota parts, available but not cheap Also, beware of armed robbers and kazeems who will come back to steal the car |
Won't mind to give wifey but she would say 'its nice but the current model seems better' I want personally though |
TPS is Throttle Position Sensor IAC is Idle Air Control Valve Ask the kazeem how he got to the conclusion that the parts he listed were bad. If you used fake as replacement, he could be right. But he need to prove. New fuel pump and spark plugs cannot simultaneously 'spoil' except some withches in the nearby village use your car at night for shuttle. He should be able to show that by putting a new fuel pump or new spark plugs, the problems will disappear. |
Yes. That's some real drifting. |
honmusa:Sincere apologies but the car is already giving out white smoke. What is he to test again? Engine rebuild is not a forte of kazeems so next bet is a swap. It sounds similar to an accident victim with a chopped off leg being rushed to the hospital and the doctor is recommending an x ray to determine if the leg is still there. |
Relax earthly mortals. That's just the price of two Dartz Prombron armored SUV’s from Latvia.
|
spartanian:I prefer USD. Very few options on that ladder |
fatbims:This is a highly desirable car and looks properly maintained... The buyer would be a lucky person... |
Other possible causes are dirty throttle body and fully closed throttle butterfly. A bad TPS or badly adjusted TPS is also a suspect. When cleaning the IAC, tell the kazeem or yourself not to twist or pull the pintle. Just spray a throttle body cleaner to wash it off. |
mrkhaynoni:Simple.... Relax *ensure your thermostat is not stuck... Do not throw it away. Conduct test on it to a certain it not being stuck. *ensure you burp out all the air in the system. *ensure your radiator is free from clogs and is not blocked internally. *ensure your fans work when they should. *ensure your condenser is not blocked. *ensure the water pump on the new engine is working. Ladipo rats have the penchant of removing such sellable items like water pumps, alternators, kick starters etc on engines and replacing them with junk Take it slow and steady....troubleshoot the cooling system and don't go haphazard in removing thermostat and having a permanent fan |

. Siena even commented he would love to see it restored to OEM+ state. But bad belle is allowed.
