Car TalkRe: Is it Alright To Drive A Newly-bought Car Without A License Plate In Nigeria? by Denn(m): 10:33am On Oct 27, 2014
Redstone:
People, I don't think you all understand the angle the plate number issue have taken, and I guess that is why our man who just bought a brand new car wants to drive without plate numbers, because he can't wait.

Well, I just bought a tokunbo 4x4, and it took more 2 weeks before I could secure a plate number registration for it, It is ridiculous that one will buy a car in Nigeria and plate number which usually is secure within 48 hours now takes 2 weeks to get if not more. The excuse is that there are no materials on ground to print plate ( Do govt give previous pales for free) the business of plate number issuance is a growing concern and the govt makes profit from it, some people say there is a rift between Lagos state govt and FRSC. Can Federal govt look into this anormally because it is getting that bad.

Secondly, few weeks ago I went for the renewal of my driver licence, and guess what people, it was like we were in a general hospital, crowd everywhere sitted around like we were waiting for some special doctor, and at the end of the day, I was given a date in April to come and check, not even to get the drivers licence. Other people can just for capturing of their picture and signature, and guess what, they filled out application/renewal forms since last year November.

Where is Nigeria heading to? People.
I got plate numbers in less than 45 minutes... And that includes a trip to the ATM to get cash.

Like Diamond bank advert.... If you are not getting full service, you need a new registration agent.

I don't agree. When an average nigeria policeman catches breaking traffic rules, d first thing that comes to his mind is d money he is going to get out of u n in most cases № matter how polite u try to be u ll only be wasting ur time. This is from personal xperience. I av neva been rude to a police man on d road.
being polite is different from being able to start a relationship with a complete angry stranger....

being polite to an angry strange dog cannot make it docile.

i rest my case lest i digress...personal experience too

Car TalkRe: Checking Of Driver's License By Police. by Denn(m): 12:40pm On Oct 23, 2014
i have noticed Nigerians hate the police so much.

We scorn at them and see them as 'beneath' us. That is why they are usually aggressive.

I have been caught on the wrong side of the law few times....like beating a red light or passing hidden 'one-way' and on most occasions, i have left them without paying a dime. I work on their psychology and we all end up chatting and becoming friends....even LASTMA.

Lets always show them respect, not fear.

thanks

I think you will need more papers than private carrying a red plate. My tots anyway
i have a friend in haulage who owns an F150 lariat. One day his truck had tyre problems along benin corridor and he lifted a tyre....

he saw hell and was delayed unnecessarily.

he had a private number.

I will get all local government papers...

I say I fell in love with the road which I traveled on the very time at night, but I did see one BMW that was destroyed entirely when its owner exceeded his limits and the cars limits, from the look of things, am not sure he survived. Matter of fact, Delta beats many southern states hands down in terms of number of kilometers of very very good roads in several directions!

Don't know the name of the roads - but Enugu and Ebonyi have some very sweet, smooth and twisty roads ( briefly), if you want to try out your
BMWs here's a place to go

Some sections of East West Road in Delta State ( briefly)

Abuja Minna ( very briefly)

Port Harcourt Expressway ( briefly)

Enugu and Abia state ( brief sections of that expressway)

Routes I have heard friends perform speed miracles
Kaduna
Kano
Sokoto
Jigawa

Come to think of it, should the constitutional amendment on road safety work, then it is time we abolish one speed limit for all of nigeria and replace it with varied speed limits like it exists in the US, and since states are complaining of lack of cash, they should build autobahn type roads and tax those who wanna use them, like i read Germany is about to do: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-28199383 and http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-12-06/autobahn-thrills-to-cost-foreigners-under-german-plan.html and http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-12-06/autobahn-thrills-to-cost-foreigners-under-german-plan.html and http://www.justlanded.com/english/Germany/Articles/Travel-Leisure/The-Autobahn

I would gladly pay the bill to be able to drive between Abuja and Delta at 200km instead of 100km if all the states in between would work out an arrangement to build and toll such a road, same goes for abuja lagos

Jigawa

Disclaimer: I do not recommend exceeding speed limits, this was posted to illustrate what is possible, this is no incitement or encouragement to break the law and neither should it be taken as such!
300km/h on twisty roads?

Ok

no. it is not like that.

we made business plan presentations. we state the exact amount we needed. they approved and called us awardees.... now the story is changing by giving us less than budget.

imagine having a business plan with equipment cost of N4m and raw materials of 2m minimum. these does not include payroll and other costs. if the applicant requests for 8m but is given only 3m, tell me what he can do with the money given.

this grant slicing is already killing some business plans from the start.

there might be some plans that are evidently not requiring much funds...but not all these cut and paste.

am in abuja waiting for the morn

I think it's a much more reasonable choice than either the tundra or Nissan Titan which you see all over our roads...
yes. business.

thanks. Titan or frontier is not even on my radar. I might consider a late model tacoma or tundra but the F150 king ranch comes to mind and the japanese considerations fizzle away.
