Stagger, pls tel me where and how 2 purchase d Quickbooks software u mentioned. Also, pls enlighten me on d monthly financial reports we will be required 2 send. My business is new and it is sales of computers, phones, etc. I was awarded 8m of d 10m I applied for. I intend 2 have a good show room, and high quality branding. I figure my 1st tranche(1.6m) will only be sufficient 2 rent a location, set up my showroom, get my branding done, and probably buy 3-4 laptops. I don't even know yet how I'll accommodate employees salaries, I intend 2 start wit 3 of d 8 I proposed in my biz plan and pay 30k each, remember I too have 2 be on salary. Pls giv me ur thoughts on my situation. Thanks.
When you employ, what will they be doing with 3 to 4 laptops?

When you brand and set up a fashionable store and there are no products, how do you think the walk in customers will react?

How do you intend to generate cashflow to meet your running cost till the next tranche?

You need to start doing a lot of thinking before tranche 1 comes in.

It is better to think now than think with money in your account... Money is a spirit that tends to lead if not led.

Hello Guys...

I can emphatise with these travails as I have been on the 'payment will come in soon' trend too. In fact, I am on the verge of losing out on a deal.

However, we should see the bigger picture... It's a grant and not a right. We are simply lucky and should have a positive orientation. A lot of people would wish to wait for a whole year to get this opportunity.

We can use this extra time to review our plans in line with the current economic realities.

Get more learning. Do more research. Go for more trainings. Get more wisdom.

I wish us all the best....

Happy waiting

I won't lie o. Haven't used drip before. Not because it's not good, but because I haven't seen the need to. Sprinkler does the job fine for me. Even whith the mulching, it just rains down and waters the crops.
Real drip and not the hole-in-hose stuff will actually concentrate fluids to the roots.... But I think your model works.

However, you mentioned bitter cucumber as a symptom of low irrigation.... You can also look into it too...

Won't mind signing up into your class... I am a learner

The issue of irrigation with your mulch on.

How do you do it? You mentioned sprinkler but I think the mulch will prevent maximum penetration. Drip might be better

Okay, I just met with representatives of a farm technology company in Thailand. And they said they can solve my current irrigation problems by supplying me a GUN SPRINKLER. A sprinkle water like rain with a 45metre radius. That is an impressive one, considering it will cover one hectare in 30mins.

It's supposed to work hand in hand with my hydraflo machine. This machine is a beast. It can fill up a geepee tank in 30 seconds. An average sumo pump releases 50 psi at a go. This beast can go up to 2000 psi at a go. That is 40 times an average sumo pump. I havr not been able to use it because the pressure at which it releases water can cause erosion and even leaching if not checked.

Please does anybody knows any other machine or mechanism that can be used for irrigation in my farm? Thanks
Visit irrigationtutorials.com

Your pump, sprinkler and land area must be properly matched.

Your machine seems to big for 1 hectare.

Back to class. We are at number 4 factor. NUMBER 4 is IRRIGATION. Over 80% of cucumber composition is water. Yes! Water... the need for constant water cannot be underestimated. And for this, irrigation is key.

Personally, wherever I am developing land, once the land is secure from pests the next thing I do is secure a constant source of water. Could be a nearby stream or I sink bore-hole in the land.

Please if you don't have constant source of water, cucumber farming is not for you.

If the plants are not well watered, the primary effect is that the products will be bitter. Have you eaten bitter cucumber before? Let's just say it's a combination of quinine and bitter leaf. Nobody will buy it from you, and bye bye to 1million Net profit.
Secondly, the plants won't last long before they wither. Which would not allow you to harvest as many times as you need to. So... bye bye 1million profit.
Been following your posts.

Was about asking you on how you irrigate.

Can you please shed more light on this?

What methods do you employ.

In addition, I can notice mulching... More on these please

is not only access bank. Skye bank is also doing same. Having open some people account and left others untouched. No cheque book or atm card yet. May God help us all.
It is your right as a customer to have full details on your account opening process.

An account must be opened within a week even in the most challenging situation.

To resolve any account opening issue, please do the following.

Visit the branch and ask for the progress viz status of account opening. If your account number is nor ready, demand a reason. Usually, the fault might be from the account holder who has refused to submit certain documents.

If you are certain all documents have been submitted and account not yet opened, ask to see the branch manager. Do not let any unit head or operations head restrict you from seeing the manager. It is your right and that is why the manager is being paid.

Communicate your displeasure to the manager and ask for a definite resolution date.

On that date, your account number must be ready. If not, simply escalate same by visiting the bank's website and copying the complaint or customer service email. Tell them the process you have gone through.
You should get the number in 24 hours max.

@denn, I agree with your point on how depreciation has affected your personal economy but that's because you choose to import! Depreciation is supposed to discourage imports and curb luxury lifestyle as price of imported commodities will rise beyond the reach of some people.

This will encourage people to buy local and engage in production locally and it will also spur exports as most commodity made locally will become competitive abroad.

My personal take as ever is that the CBN should allow the currency to depreciate further to 200- 220 naira/ dollars. Then people will start making mopping sticks in Nigeria rather than import them! The clothes made in Aba will become competitive and can even be exported for foreign currency. People will prefer to wear ankara made in Ibadan and keep lots of folks employed rather than suits made in Turkey!.

If you @ denn, you can choose to get a local subsidize for the equipments you wants to imports, Go to FIIRO, oshodi with a prototype design of what you want to import and believe they will make it at half the price. To grow at home we must think local and export abroad!. My take sha.
lol...bros, you want USD at N220? you harsh small o....lol

Can FIIRO manufacture a complete tractor with 100% local content?

We import not only because we desire foreign goods, but because we have no choice. The phone or laptop used in making this posts are all imported...should we not be on the internet then?

If USD gets to N220, then the sellers will transfer the whole cost to you and i...

There is hardly any industry that is not dependent on an imported item....transferred costs lead to higher costs of living....

If you are not importing, you are buying from someone who imports.

We need to develop our local content but rome wasnt built in a day.

I think we all hope to grow our businesses to the level of active exports someday.

Proudly Nigerian too...

For those who think Youwin Grant is "Settlement", I pity them because they are deluded. Youwin Grant should be the beginning of our business growth and success not the ceiling! Youwin awardees who got 10M should be running a 60M to 100M business in 3 years to 5 years. Likewise others who got lower grant ceilings! We should be looking to triple and quadruple our grants awards.

Another perspective I want to touch on is that your grant awarded is still intacts and of same value as the day you got it irrespective of the currency depreciation. There is a difference between currency depreciation and inflation. It is only inflation that will affect your money purchasing power not currency depreciation, though currency fluctuation do have economic effects. The last time I checked from the national bureau of statistics, inflation have not increased but still remain at 7 to 9%. So let's pray inflations does not jump to double digit in the coming year.
I differ greatly with that part emboldened and it is simple logic.

I am to bring in equipment worth say $20,000.

Same amount at 165 NGN to 1USD is N3.3m. If we exchange at the current rate of around 180NGN to 1USD, that implies N3.6m. There is an increased cost of N300,000.

This is not talking about the average inflation in the macro economy.... It is about my own personal economy with a single fixed income of N10m. Nominal value might be constant but real value has declined... Sharply

Am......house? Did anyone realised that the exchange rate is now 180 naira to a dollar? A whooping difference of 30 naira when compared to the time of our initial proposal.

It is well.
The Naira has depreciated by around 16% in the last 12 months.

In layman terms, this implies that your N10m youwin funds is now worth only N8.4M today.

Yes you will get the nominal amount of N10m but you can not buy stuffs that worth again.

In order to survive, we should all put on our thinking caps and ensure we reduce all unnecessary expenses in our plans.

Luxury should be postponed for now.

I can even project a further decline as the price of crude oil goes down further.

Our dependence on oil and Import craze is really affecting us.

Election is also around the corner and more money will be chasing few goods....

Guys, the austerity policy for the government affects all.

I reason that mentors would speak with us and give reports before disbursements. That should be the ideal thing. However, I don't know how it worked out in the last editions.

HealthRe: Critical Analysis Of 'ponmo' By University Students by Denn(m): 7:19am On Nov 15, 2014
Nutritional benefits of ponmo

The nutritional analysis of a 40 gram piece of ponmo is:

Calories (150g); Total fat (4g); Saturated fat (1g); Poly saturated fat (0g); Mono saturated fat (0g); Trans fat (0g); Cholesterol (0g); Sodium (0mg); Potassium (0mg); Total carbohydrate (0g);

Dietary fibre (0g); Sugars (0 per cent); Proteins (0 per cent); Vitamin A (0 per cent); Vitamin C (0 per cent); Calcium (0 per cent); Iron (0 per cent).

From this analysis, you will see that ponmo is completely lacking in all nutrients.

Smoking contaminates meat

In addition to this, during the production process of ponmo, the hides and skin are usually subjected to naked flames so as to enable the hides to burn off the skin. During the burning process, a lot of different unhygienic substances such as trash, wood, charcoal, rubber tires and so on, are thrown into the furnace to sustain the blazing heat.

As the furnace burns, the combusting wood, gas, or charcoal emits chemicals known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which finds its way into the smoked food and contaminates it.

Exposure to PAHs is known to cause skin, liver, stomach and several other types of cancers in laboratory animals. In addition to this, epidemiological studies have found a positive statistical correlation between intestinal tract cancer and frequent intake of smoked food. These studies have also linked occupational exposure to PAHs to cancer in humans.

When PAHs from a flame mingle with nitrogen, say from a slab of meat, they can form nitrated PAHs or NPAHs. NPAHs are even more carcinogenic than PAHs in laboratory experiments.

All these particles are, in fact, an irritant to our digestive systems because we are not naturally intended to inhale or consume smoke particles. Just as you wouldn’t want to eat cigarette ends, eating smoked foods puts you at similar risks as smoking and also contains many of the same chemicals found in cigarettes.

Yes, ponmo is a delicacy, but the nutritional values and the health implications of consuming smoked foods may begin to make us look in another direction. However, if you are a ponmo addict, you can choose to eat the white ponmo. That type is not subjected to the burning process. Rather, the hide is usually removed by using very hot water, in addition to the use of blades to shave off the hair.

We need to begin to imbibe a healthy eating lifestyle. We need to realise that today’s decisions will be tomorrow’s reality. We need to make changes to our lifestyle that will increase our longevity. There are several foods we may need to let go of in order to live a healthier, fuller and more rewarding life.

Have a blessed weekend.
