Deji,

I don't encourage wiping hard drives. I think the only time you need to wipe a computer is when you want to upgrade or change the OS. I have handled some badass virus in the past few months and I didn't even think of attempting to format the laptops. There are powerful tools these days to get your system back in tip-top shape.

The way I do it is scan with all these

Malwarebytes
superantispyware
hitman pro
combofix
Rkill
Spywareblaster

I have never seen any infected computer or virus that will survive all these attacks. Backing up an infected computer is a bit tricky, all the files backed up are already infected. That means you move infected files into a new install and thats back to square one.

This is just my own way sha.

try this link
http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=malwarebytes&platformSelect=Windows&tag=srch%3Ba&searchtype=downloads&filterName=platform%3DWindows&filter=platform%3DWindows

it's called "malwarebytes" click the download and not the buy it. A yellow bar will come down click that and choose download

use another computer to download it on a flash stick and when you start your computer start hitting "F8" before you see the windows logo.
This will give you options as to how you want to login
choose: safe mode with networking
when it comes up install the program. Note that you have to be online so it can be updated
after the update do a quick scan or a full scan if you have time
when its done click show results
then click remove
restart your computer then you should be back to normal
Thanks for being elaborate. @Kandiikane, you can't go wrong with this process unless you have a very stubborn malware.

Hiya, its me again I was wondering if you can help with an antivirus. My laptop got infected I think by BEST-ANTIVIRUS2010, it is a keylogger from google and it keeps on telling me My computer is infected(it shows all the virus I have) and that I should remove it by buying the MS Tool Removal

I have had it before and I downloaded kaspersky 30day trial to clean it but now I am without a virus for both my laptop and PC and it has infected my laptop. I tried going on the internet but it is very very slow and I think it disables my laptop's firewall anytime I turn it on.

Help, I was wondering if I can download an antivirus on my PC and put it on a USB stick to transfer on my laptop. Is that possible?

But help me first with a good Anti-virus. Cheers smiley
I'm the master virus blaster wink. What you need to do is cleanse the laptop with Malware bytes anti malware before installing an antivirus. Dont buy any MS tool removal, it's an attempt to further compromise your system.

Anyways, let me keep my options open. I still need a good place to change the motherboard
If you want to get old very fast, change your motherboard. The MOBO is the heart of computer, there's no point changing it especially on laptops where all the components are integrated. Just buy a new laptop and dispose of that as spares.

@Denzel
U arent quite right cos for a business to justify an expense as a biz running cost it has got to pass the WREN test which is that;
The asset was acquired WHOLLY for the biz
It was a REASONABLE purchase
It was bought EXCLUSIVELY for the biz and
it was a NECESSARY purchase
All four tests r required to be passed before a purchase can be allowed as part of running expenses and as such if this criteria were to be used, it wld be impossible to justify the purchase of 4 jets. Not like our tax authorities really wld care anyway.
So tell me how the church jets will not pass the WREN test?
@koboj and @denzel2009:

I guess there are two separate but related issues.

1) How do we ensure that a non-profit like a big church actually is following both the rules and restrictions of non-profit status? Are they required to submit receipts/records and are they audited? If so, how does a pastor end up with a $30 million jet? And if the jet is owned by the church and not him personally, then shouldn't there be heavy restrictions on its use? Even forgetting about the jet. What if the church opens up a school, bakery, and other entities that compete against people who must pay taxes? This is why oversight seems pretty important to me.
2) Why exactly should non-profits all not pay tax? What is the rationale behind this, I guess?
Churches and charity trusts get taxed. They are somehow regulated, cos they have to register with the companies house, file tax returns and governed by board of trustees.

Those guys buy expensive jets and all sorts cos they are considered business expenses which are allowable deductions in income before tax. By the time, they justify the need for 4 jets for evangelism and all the necessary associated running costs, and Pastors salaries and emoluments are deducted, the tax payable is reduced.

I'm not even sure this is possible. . . government cannot legislate away gullibility in human nature.

Are churches requires to submit receipts/records in Nigeria to maintain their non-profit status? I'm not any sort of tax guy, but I'd imagine that you have to do that in the US and UK.
They are registered charity organizations that survive on voluntary donations. In UK, they get substantial tax reliefs.

I think it's clear where Bishop David Oyedepo made his money from: tithes, offerings, and special offerings.  There is no question or controversy about that, at all.  I went to Winners Chapel once before they moved to Canaanland, and they definitely had thousands of members even then.  If you have a congregation of just 5000 people paying you 10% of their income, that means you'll be making 500 times what they earn on average.  Sweet eh? smiley  If I could convince every Nairalander to give me 10% of their income, I would be super rich! So that's not the controversy at all.
Try it, you just might get lucky.

@ekt_bear

The ISPs connect via fiber cables to major service providers who have fibers running all the way to Europe, the challenge is in the distribution medium. The failure of Nitel also has repercussions for data services, we do not have cable in the ground, all of our service providers prefer going wireless as it is easier to setup, if you look at our phone service, everybody calls on mobile, that is not meant to be the case, the mobile is meant to be used when you are transiting say between work and home or on the move, what we have is the mobile being the primary means of communication, now we know that mobile technology is playing catch up with cable, also it is a shared medium and as I always say the real estate of a mobile firm is its frequency which is in short supply and is narrow (typically 5Mhz), I believe the best modulation techniques will give you roughly 4 times of that, now that is what is shared in a sector and companies do not usually have more than 3 of these 5Mhz spectrum ( dont try NCC charges for frequency spectrum, na die), so, maximum you can have 60Mbps at a cell site, now imagine that cell site having 300 subscribers with say 25% working concurrently and the 60Mbps is shared among them, so, even before you get to the transmission point, the distribution side is messed up as people are contending for bandwidth on  a cell site close to them, building more cell sites is out of the way as it is expensive.
The other challenge is what is priority for these mobile firms, for MTN, voice is number one, your MTN Data service is probably priority 3, infact when they did a capacity swap with MainOne, they placed mainone on priority 3 which was a best effort service (mainone people hala them no be small).
The solution is to deploy more cell stations running wimax, but the dream of FTTH or even copper to the home is far far away as nobody is ready to build cable plants because of right of way issue, how localised cabling is and the bad belle that leads to cable cutting (those phone companies dey cut each other fiber oooo, serious bad belle), so, we are left at the mercy of the developed nations to find faster means wireless communications for us.
We also need to peer these major ISPs, imagine me sending a mail to my wife sitting beside me, if I am using swift and she is using MTN, the packets go out to london and back before gets the mail, that increase cost and congests the network.
These are all technical details, now imagine the administrative and political issues militating against broadband access in Nigeria Abeg hand dey pain me, I no dey write this much.
When Nitel was bastardized and we embraced the starcomms fad, I knew we just postponed our problem. If we still had NITEL, they could have provided a reliable ADSL connection and each household would enjoy a decent speed at least.

IMHO, the west likes the status quo, we are a menace on the internet with shitty speed we have currently. I have actually seen a guy on NL who downloaded about 24Gb of files with his phone, that's what I call phone paedo. Imagine Nigerians having a faster internet services, all dating sites and corporate organizations are in trouble, in fact, most dating sites don't allow Nigerians. . .paypal? western union? When Nigerian guys got the hang of facebook (pronounced phase book), Mark Zuckerberg raised the level of security cos they were inboxing all the girls on there and don't let me talk about twits.

It's a shame really, cos the way things are going with e-Commerce revolution and the current buzzword in IT circles-Cloud, Nigeria is waaaaaay behind.
