I was coming to start a similar thread. It is a good thing that we think it is important to find a way out. The youth are the agents of change anywhere and it is a good thing that we are saddened, as seen in the other thread by our divisive state. I am of the opinion that whatever we discuss here or agree on should be sent to the secretary of the NSCIA, the JNI(eith the Sultan as its head, MUSWEN and the league of Imams and Alfas of south west Nigeria. We may not send it to them all. We may not write a letter, we may just send the link. Whatever we decide should be about making them aware of how the Young Muslims of Nigeria want them to come together henceforth and AGREE on a standard system of moon sighting and its eventual broadcast to the Nigerian Populace. May Allah help us to arrive at the best conclusions. May He accept our Ibadah. Ramadan Mubarak. |
tbaba1234: If I live in a community that starts fasting earlier. I will fast with them, not because I agree with them but because it is the right thing to do.It is like the idea behind not having a second jama'ah |
May Allah forgive everyone of us. |
This hadith is also stated- Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “The fast is the day when you fast and al-Fitr is the day when you break the fast, and al-Adha is the day when you offer the sacrifice.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 697, showing that it doesnt matter too much, the discrepancies. |
^^ I posted an article from Islam Q&A but removed it so that mire arguments dont ensue. It is stated that anyone who wouldnt follow the local authorities would have to do their thing in hiding. i.e if breaking earlier than others, must not eat publicly and if fasting earlier must do it without announcing it. The need to not cause unnecessary rife is stated. This is what our leaders should look into in order to stop the North/south divide. |
I am holding on to ur opinion on this. I quite agree with this precise summary. This affair is clear and we shouldn't bother ourselves by imposing a burden that was not even exterminated by the Best of generations. "Fasting is when people fast and breaking is when people breaks". This gives us the right to follow our rightly choosen leaders. It is the practice of the Sahaba to sight the moon THEN MAKE IT KNOWN TO THE AMIR-UL-MUMEEN. Whoever sights the moon should make effort at contacting their imams and the imams, the Amir. However IF A TRUSTWORTHY IMAM CONFIRMS OR VERIFIES THE SIGHTING,FASTING SHOULD COMMENCE IN THAT LOCALTY WITHOUT DELAY. Imams that commences fasting or prays taraaweeh based on calender or calculations should not be followed. ALLAH IS THE SOURCE OF TAWFEEQ!
You know, there was a time We, my family used to follow the North/sultan and majority of the other people in Ibadan would follow the Imam. It was always awkward eating all about while the whole of Ibadan was still fasting. When I learnt of the great scholar's position which I have learnt to be the position of the ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'a, I didnt even think twice before I accepted it to be right and tried to inform every other person, especially the ones I care about, about it. The hikmah behind it is sooo glaring. May Allah forgive us all. |
maclatunji: Many local authorities chose tomorrow to start without any regard to the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW). I have to eat but there is a clear explanation of my position here (Moonsighting for Ramadan http://www.coolstuff49ja.com/2013/07/moonsighting-for-ramadan.html?m=1 )I am not going to read what someone says on a blog. what makes the blogger right? I have stated why I said what I said above. The position of an Imam. |
edicha80: Nigerian Breaking NewsIt doesnt matter what is happening elsewhere. Follow your own Imams. |
annoymous: I don't see any justification for fasting tomorrow in the south west especially since SCIATICA has announced that the moon has not been sighted anywhere. Tomorrow, at best, is Yaom ush-Shaq (the day of doubt). You know what, in Islam, the best for our communal living is always sought for. Our Imams in the south west already have calendars they follow and choose the dates long before anything moon can be sighted. Even then, one of the great scholars, Imam ibn Taymiyyah(hopefully, there is no mix up with the name) in one of his books made it known that the best thing to do at a time like this is to follow your local authority(Imam). Now would it be good that in a place like Ibadan for example, we would have Hausas, living in sabo, who definitely saw no moon either breaking while the Yorubas are still fasting? Is Islam a tribal religion or are we not to be seen under an umbrella where tribe has no meaning? Until our leaders achieve the maturity that allows them sit down and devise the proper means of getting a uniform message to us all on when to start and or break our fast, the word of this great scholar reigns supreme. We are to stay as one and do the same thing as the people or the Muslim leaders of the community where we find ourselves as per starting and breaking of our fasts. wa Allahu a'lam. |
tintingz: Naah, not the chief imam of Lagos... na the imam wey dey for our area mosque gan gan anounced it that fasting starts tomorrow and almost every mosque in my area are praying tarawih.alright. It is most likely the case in the whole of the south West. I just spoke wv my peeps in Ibadan telling them to listen to the Chief Imam of Ibadan land, Alhaji Busari Suarau Haruna the 111 ![]() |
It appears that the majority from South West Nigeria are starting tomorrow while the Northerners will start the day after it. I am hopeful that in the future, there will be a common ground to allow for the standardisation of moon sighting in Nigeria. |
mu2sa2: Sultan is the only emir that announces commencement of Ramadan in the north. If the moon crescent is sighted in ilorin or anywhere else in the north the news is normally relayed to the sultan who, after confirmation, makes the announcement. The sultan has made the announcement. The emir is reported to have made his own via Facebook. |
Tczar: We av observed our tarawey here in ogbomoso,bt am nt sure wether d imam confirm d seachin of d moon b4 we observe it.confirm please and join the Imam when they start. If no confirmation, prepare to fast and continue or break it depending on what is happening in your area tomorrow. |
yetunsbay: OSUN STATE...announced by President League of Imams and Alfas South West,Edo,DeltaIf you are in any of these states, the best thing is to follow what is said there. Start with them on the 9th and end when they declare it |
Najyin: Let's stop deceiving ourselves. Is there more than 30 days in any Islamic month ? The first day of Shaban was sighted on the 9th of July,2013 in Katsina state. So if you don't fast tomao, you've 1 more obligatory fast to complete it. You can quote me wrong. Nigerians love fasting for only 29 days. Which is wrong !Are you a scholar? There is a big problem with some people thinking they are wiser than others. Even at the time of the prophet, there are reported instances of people starting on different days and even the Prophet(S.A.W) didnt talk arrogantly about anyone deceiving themselves. |
tintingz: Reporting from Lagos, we are starting tomorrowYou should be specific. Is your messg from the Chief Imam of Lagos or your ratibi mosque Imam? what are you hiding sef ![]() |
maclatunji: Your Imam is totally wrong. You cant say that an Imam is wrong. That is the message we have been trying to pass all thr while. Thr right thing is to follow what your local authorities say. There is nothing like an Imam is wrong. |
annoymous: Shouldn't the Sultan be making a broadcast on this? Lets be patient. I'm in Ogun state too and went to the mosque and met them already praying Taraweeh only for the Imam to cut it short that the moon had not been sighted.what about the Chief Imam of Abeokuta. If he doesnt make any announcement, listen for the Sultan's |
seedord247: BelowThat is for Saudi sir. Wait for the Nigerian authorities to make their own announcement(s) |
yetunsbay: tomorrow brodastown and state? |
kkkp: Authorities of Saudi Arabia have officially declared Wednesday as 1st Ramadan 1434AHThat applies to you only if you are in Saudi. |
SAMMYTOPE: Yh thanks. Bt it doesn't ask the question thoNow ask your questions. |
tintingz: Our imam have confirmed it, fasting starts tomorrowwhere is your Imam. Do you realise that what your Imam says applies to only those of you who are his congregation? that is why I am asking you to state where you are. That he sighted the moon or saw someone who did is even irrelevant but I'd like to know please. |
Walexz02: inshaAllah from the central mosque. But as usually tins may change,bt I am prepared sha.ok. let us know if there is any update |
