Sissie: Salam, sorry for my late response, I actually just saw this.
Hmm I don't follow a specific school of thought, I choose whichever I think it's best, but I do read more of imam Maliks work (muwatta) because its readily available, but I won't say I belong to Maliki school of thought.
I am serving and working at the same time, I work in a consultancy firm.
But I used to work for an Islamic media house before and worked with some scholars thereby learning more.
I attend some programs and learn from Learned people I agree with. And I am a part of a group of Muslim women, who try to remind ourselves and improve.I also am studying for a diploma in islamic studies.
I think it's important to mix with the right people to help build oneself up.
I do read and try to improve my knowledge and watch lectures of different scholars.
And oh I studied economics
Wow. There is a lot on your resume. I wish you the very very best.

What is your women group like?

I still wonder how the almajiri problem was nit seen as an emergency until the emergence of boko haram.

Even the prophet(S.A.W) spoke strongly against begging.

How it became 'institutionalised' is beyond me sad

This is a wake up call to governments at all levels.

Tbaba is referring us to some other threads on the same topic of tafsir
It is tedious going back and forth (of course that is inexcusable laziness given that another person typed out all of that). I prefer to read all the materials on one thread. This thread is already a word/pdf doc for me BTW.
Can we not just put everything together on one thread and make it sticky even if only for this Ramadan period
Although looking at some of the stuff that typically appear on the main page, personally I believe that a good thread on the Qur'an (our best companion) should be PERMANENTLY sticky
Wa alaykum salam.

I think you made this comment because only tbaba has been posting there.

The thread is for as many people as iare interested in posting. But the other thread doesn't allow that. It appears more like a narrative from him that we can ask questions /comments on only.

To go back and forth wouldnt be necessary since the link to the thread is already provided. Every interested person can always go to it and not have to come back yo the Ramadan tsfsir thread for completion. I agree it may not be easy for him either.

Making the thread sticky isn't a problem in sha Allah.

************************
I am modifying this comment for the second time. There is a possibility that I dont perfectly understand what you want. Please correct me in case..

I can see that there is more than a thread on Qur'an and not all can be made sticky. Are we asking that tbaba puts the ones he's written all in one and thereafter make it sticky?

The Ramadan tafsir thread can then continue(without him copying from the previous threads) and hopefully achieve its aim.

When I read topics like this and see the comments from non Muslims, I smile.

To them, this is bad for the Muslims and whatever is bad for the Muslims is good.

Unknown to them, from a spiritual angle, with every hardship a Muslim faces, he gets rewards. Muslims in places like this, where their right is infringed upon are better Muslims than those who have it laid out to them. Their faith is strenghtened. They also havethe benefit of having their prayers answered as one of the prayers answered fast, is that of the oppressed.

I pray for ease, I pray for peace, I pray for understanding. I pray for guidance.

I pray for every truth seeking individual who reads this.

MAY Allah ease your tasks and guide you. Amin.

Coco diva: My dear sis,Islam is not about analogy its about facts contained in the Qur'an and sunnah.the chewing of siwaak you mentioned and tasting of food is expressly mentioned in the hadith. Where is analogy of chewing something tasteless mentioned? Or has any scholar sanctioned it? We all know contemporary issues are tabled before scholars to give rulings on them even if they are not expressly contained in the Quran or hadith.so where has it been sanctioned. Its not for us as individuals to make rulings for ourselves. Moreover,if you decide to chew gum because of mouth odour, where do you put the hadith of Allah loving the odour and comparing it to the fragrance of musk? We are not wiser

than Allah and His words are always true.we cannot say we want to please the creation and displease the creator. Allah knows best
There is no point arguing with you. I dont even know where to start.

Read tbaba's last post.

So how much of drilling would you need fo4 this to sink.

In Islam, it is allowed. A matter of Islam can and should only be seen from an Islamic perspective .
I know it is from dawn to dusk. The only think bothering me is that dawn to dusk is not the same for everyone. Will the people in Alaska get better rewards than those in Nigeria for fasting longer? Again, i'm trying to be educated. I do not want anyone bringing some sort of malice into this.
That it does not favour the people in Alaska now doesnt mean it never did or may not in the future.

That the period of ramadan shifts when you compare it with the gregorian calendar makes it possible for each people of all nations to fast at every season..I hope u got it.

I have friends attending an Islamic university. They used to have their break during ramadan while we have ours during the summer period.

This year, because the ramadan is earlier, they are writing exams in it and only the last part of the ramadan period would they have as their break.

Meaning, it will go round. There is wisdom behind that for those with the 7th sense.

Lagusta: grin
I asked because some people used to say it is haram because they think u are trying yo ease it. They expect it to be hard. But the quran doesnt say anything about making it hard or easy, you know.

You dont make things that are not haram, haram for yourself.
Health › Re: How Do You Cope With The Mouth Odour During Ramadan? by deols(f): 2:05pm On Jul 15, 2013
Lagusta: @deols...........

most people chew gum cos it brings some form of satiety from hunger, until real food is available. if I chew gum while fasting, it's just like pouring water into a basket, cos the whole essence is lost!!!

well, Allah knows best!!!!
I never knew/hard of that.

What do you say of having cold bath in ramadan? To feel cool and ease the stress of fasting?
Islam › Re: Why Cant I Put On A Necklace by deols(f): 2:01pm On Jul 15, 2013
I think the necklace, just like ear rings shouldn't be worn at all by a male since it puts the man in a position where he is dressing like women.

I can be wrong though. Havent seen any scholarly opinion about it.
Health › Re: How Do You Cope With The Mouth Odour During Ramadan? by deols(f): 1:57pm On Jul 15, 2013
Coco diva: Any evidence for this in the Qur'an or sunnah please.
Thousands of people read these messages silently.so we don't mis-inform people without knowing it.
The essence of fasting has been defeated when you chew anything, tasteless or not.taste is not the essence in fasting, its keeping away from eating, drinking and sexual activities irrespective of what the food or drink is.
The fasting person should brush after sahur, taking special care to brushing the tongue too.possibly floss and use mouthwash thereafter. Avoid putting your mouth too close to people when speaking later in the day. Cos the mere fact that you avoid eating or drinking creates an odour either you like it or not.even those that are not fasting, when they don't eat for prolonged period of time will develop odour as well.
Of course you dont expect that the Quran will specifically indicate chewing gum/candy.

It is only logical that the aim is for you not to be getting nutrients.

Does a sugarless gum give you any form of nutrient.

So far you are not swallowing it, it is allowed.

Also read whaT is above
Health › Re: How Do You Cope With The Mouth Odour During Ramadan? by deols(f): 1:55pm On Jul 15, 2013
Lagusta: now let's break it down.....

the whole essence of fasting is to exclude yourself from drink, food and intercourse for a specific period, to move closer to Allah abIhuh

now, if you start chewing a tasteless gum from morning till night, in order to curb the hunger pangs, then why fast in the first placehuh

remember the hadith of the rasul (saw): leave what makes you in doubt to what does not make you in doubt!!!

may Allah continue to strengthen us!!!
There is no doubt here.
If the gum doesnt have sugar, why do you want to chew it. Some chew so that they can keep their mouth moist. Others for healthy gum issues.

There is no doubt about it at all.

You mentioned not eating. It is about not eating food and not about not chewing.

*Chewing stick is chewed and allowed in Islam.
But swallowing is disallowed.

*You can also brush with toothpaste without swallowing.

*you can even taste d food u are cooking by just putting it on your tongue wvout swallowing.

In essence, you can chew but cannot swallow food/sweet/whatever gets into ur stomach apart from the usual saliva.

How about financial maturity. Are you financially mature?

About the Nigerian wife, I was hoping a spiritual maturity(as per being in Ramadan) would have purged you of racism/tribalism.
Health › Re: How Do You Cope With The Mouth Odour During Ramadan? by deols(f): 8:22am On Jul 15, 2013

Exactly.

besides neither gum or toothpaste is food or drink so how does it affect fasting abeg

dont know about, all d muslims i've been with at work, family etc dont smell cos they are fasting.
If it doesnt have sugar, what makes it taste sweet?
I am only trying to understand how permissible it can be during fasting.

The odour is beloved to Allah more than musk is.

Not many people can brush all the time(especially if outdoor)

Tolerate them. It is only for a month.

But if brushing is possible, they should be encouraged to do it.

The hadith says gold necklace.

What happens if op wears an aluminium one? Or one made from nickel or something else.

He agrees that gold is haram but doesnt see why he should not wear necklace at all.

You said something about the necklace. A form of adornment for women.
