oba2flex: I'm in Ado Ekiti.I can hear some mosques doing the taraweeh now.
Do you know if the Imams fixed a date before now or whether they did any moon searching?

Whatever the case may be, if the Chief Imam or any Muslim authority makes it known that the moon is sighted in Ado Ekiti, you have to join in.

Others, wait for your own announcement.

Where I am,wednesday has been declared the start of Ramadan. smiley

golpen: I'm not so sure we have the hot weather at many places around the world this time.

Oranges is no doubt a favourite around here and I've also pondered on the annual miraculous coincidence. But I've not been seeing the balls lately anyway. grin
I saw plenty o. You need to go out tomorrow and especially if tomorrow is the first of Ramadan to confirm.

Talking hot whether, you need to ask people in the middle east and North/East Africa.

SAMMYTOPE: Well I'm 1 of the ppl that bliv there's only 1 God wit diff names,so I dnt think a xtian needs any intention to fast with muslims other than other the reasons the Muslims are fasting.
If a Christian fasts just because Muslims are fasting, he'll just have fasted.

But if a Christian fasts because he Believes in Allah and expects to be rewarded by fasting, that is better for him. For he wouldnt only have fasted but would have received the reward(s) of fasting.

Here is why the intention is important. Is he fasting to show solidarity or to receive the blessings and reward of Allah?

annoymous: For as long as I have known my dad, he takes a bottle of coke with one egg everyday for Sahur.
I can't try that one sha but I don't eat much eida. Bread or moin moin. Never swallows.
Did you ask him why?

coke has a large sugar(carbohydrate) content- about six cubes. But that doesnt seem like providing as much callories as would, say, a plate of rice.

The egg is alright to go with it as a source.of protein, save the cholesterol.

He may as well be one of those who'v successfully found alternatives to eating heavy at sahur period.

Seunsherif: U said we shuld nt pray duhr nd asri prayer 2geda, wat if u miss d duhr prayer mayb u ar on a journi and can sumone take his/her bath in d aftnoon durin ramadan
Being on a journey is an exception since being on a journey naturally allows you to combine dhur and asr as well as maghrib and Ishai.

You can take your bath at any time. The things that break the fast are very specific. Bath taking is not one of them.

It is really pathetic that some people are giving advice on what they have no knowledge of.

Setting alarm for you to wake up after every two hours is a bad idea. You may end up having a sleep disorder- some form of insomnia.

The best thing for you is to seek medical help. Go to a general hospital and speak to a GP.(s)He'll direct you to the right place/person.

I wish you the best, Op.

It is known as Noctutnal Enuresis which can be

1. a neurologic condition

2. a psychiatric one

3. hormonal

So, see your doctor.

But before then, lemme ask you this-

* Has this always been the case(from childhood) or did you stop at a time and later continued?

adamu50: In your contribution you mentioned in item 2 that one can kiss his wife during fast, so far one is not carried away. How on earth can you kiss your wife without being carried away, infact this is very rare. However , posting of this will only but rendered 99 people out of 100 people,999 people out of 1,000 people & 999,000 people out of 1,000,000 people invalid fasting. For Allah's sake post things that can make people spiritually connected to Allah not this type of comments
The Messenger of Allah you are comparing yourself with or immitating is human but can never be compared with anybody on earth. He is RASULUN MINAL MAULA WA ADAMU LAM YAKUM--WA YABQAA RASULUD-DAAIMAN WAMUAZZAMA. (ANNABI KENAN -S.A.W).
There is nothing wrong with what he posted imo. You dont have to french kiss your wife.

You can kiss her on the fore head or on her cheeks.

and he made it CLEAR that you should only do it if you are SURE it would not break your fast.

There is no point keeping the knowledge from people.

How did you even arrive at your statistics?? takullah!!. Fear Allah.

ponana: For a bachelor like moi, noodles and bread do the trick for sahur and ogi with moin-moin or fried meat for iftar
do you find the cooking of moin moin easy as a bachelor?
Islam › Re: What/How Do You Eat in Ramadan? by deols(op): 4:38pm On Jul 08, 2013
wow. Interesting responses.

There is No excuse to not eat sahur. In fact the sahur is one of the pillars of fasting and people should try their best to eat it.

I have realised that most of the people who find sahur hard to take, end up with cereals;corn flakes, coco pops, etc.

I'd like to find the hadith on the best time for sahur to be eaten. Anyone who knows it should post please.

It says the time between the eating of sahur and the adhan al fajr is the time it takes for 50 ayats(verses of the qur'an) to be recited.
Islam › Re: blank by deols(f): 4:27pm On Jul 08, 2013
our definition of fasting doesnt have to go with yours.

why dont you try fasting our way for a day and see how easy it is?

and again, ours is FASTInG and yours is not. see, it depends on who is defining it.

Plus we dont just skip lunch. we actually dont eat anything, including the snacks and thirst quenching soft drinks that go in between.

and we do all of these for thirty days non stop.

Give it a try and then come back to tell us if it is fasting or not.

tbaba1234: Ramadan moves so the fruit changes as season changes. Any fruit is a miracle

Sahur is hard for me but I use the hadith of the messenger SAW to motivate myself.

Iftar is much more fun. grin
That ramadan moves is why it seems like a miracle. Since I was a kid, orange has always made ramadan.

We even say in my house, when we see orange trees bearing fruits that oops! Ramadan is on the way.
Islam › Re: What/How Do You Eat in Ramadan? by deols(op):
golpen: Hmmm...grin

I think fasting is easier with this type of cool weather, unlike in the hot ones when you'll get dehydrated. Anyway, I'm not mostly into food things during ramadan (but don't try me on normal days grin), so I prefer the light meals for sahur mostly, and fatur may require little heavy meals. Fruits and milk is highly preferred by me for iftar, followed by the real meal. May Allah accept it as an act of ibadah.
The 'cool' weather depends on where you are. But a cool weather anywhere is a good thing.

I also notice that oranges(which is the main fruit eaten in Ramadan in the south west) come out during Ramadan.

Is this some form of miracle to make Ramadan easier for us? I want to believe it is. cheesy
Islam › Re: What/How Do You Eat in Ramadan? by deols(op): 11:36am On Jul 08, 2013
zayhal: For sahur, mostly swallows. Iftar, plenty of fruits and water, then regular meals like rice, beans, yam and eggs/stew etc. Pap and akara goes in-between. Most times, by the time I'm done taking pap and akara and loads of fruits, I don't get to eat the main meals again.

Don't know if this only happens with people around me or in my environment, there's usually this mad rush for food, to stock up the house in prep for Ramadhan. I then wonder, it's fasting period. Isn't this the time we should be less bothered about stocking up? I discussed this with someone today and his response was that he likes to stock up in prep for Ramadhan because he wants to remove the stress of going to the markets in Ramadhan, that more time is needed for Ibaadah. Well, I'd like to hear/read other opinions.

Hope I'm not derailing @deols
No. You are not derailing at all. Your post makes a part of the 'more' that we can discuss.

I agree with that person about stocking the house with food. It makes cooking easier and gives you more time for ibadah.

I make stews and refrigerate and just warm even on normal days.

We should discourage doing too much of cooking during the Ramadan period if it would distract from other forms of ibadah.
