The hijab is a protection for you. IT gives you control over your own body- u can determine who sees what But since it doesnt cover your eyes from seeing, it doesnt protect you from seeing the world. Your legs might be able to help though,taking you only to places of sanity.

isnt looking up male profiles a contradiction here, since you're picking up habits that the hijab is supposed to protect you from.

you are getting things wrong, and on a very large scale. Hijab is not meant to keep anyone rooted in a place. It only means that you'r covered when outside of your comfort zone. And like I said earlier, would you close your eyes any time you are walking on the streets because u dont want to c things? No But u can always take ur eyes off anything potentially bad/bad.

well, point is, the hijab doesnt keep u from seeing the world view. It does more of keeping the world's gaze from you. Hijab is a clothing worn by you and not what u cover the world with. I hope u get it now.

I hate to see some Muslims  bragging about wearing Hijab or calling for implementing shariah in their dress code or Hudud (punishment) or raiding bars night clubs or arresting call girls by doing so they are reducing Shariah to simply a set of dress code and  punishment but at same time they ignore that Shariah is more encompassing and deals first and foremost with our believe in God human interactions human rights compassion social justice why rush to chop someone head or hand or stone a person or force a lady to wear hijab against her will

Most of us ( many have given up now ) who make statements, do so after careful study of the scriptures called the Quran.

I have a quran myself , I have read parts of the Quran and having lived in Northern Nigeria for years and seen the spilling of blood first hand, having seen little girls going out with old men in Kano especially , I cannot come to any other conclusion than the position I have clearly taken at all times.

Obviously it is slightly different in the south, where a more liberal form of ISLAM is practised, if there is such a thing.

The verses I quoted were from the QURAN and Hadiths.

You get angry when we quote these verses , and yet they are your holy scripture.

Do not be ashamed of your books, accept them for what they are  

u are wrong. accept it rather than all d unnecessary info above

U quoted some verses, giving them wrong interpretations. Accept it and say you are sorry.

Muslims dont shy away from their belief. Unlike you, we do not say certain parts of the Qur'an are old school and so, if sodomy is what Qur'an talks about we simply would be here defending it. No matter what people say of polygamy after all, we defend it tooth and nail even if many of us wouldnt practice it.

I didnt post the above merely to give u a bad name. It is just to call d attention of u and others to what the anti Islam propaganda is about. These people invent lies against Islam and Muslims and all yu need do is think beyond your noses. Rather than do that, u accept all they say.

@mdsocks, I don't really have hijabites as friends (most are 'scarfites'), but the few I have are open-minded and don't always talk about religion, they are quite knowledgeable about other aspects of life too,

The issue of sisters looking beyond brothers' dressing has once been addressed here and I agree it shouldnt be a yardstick for someone's faith or piety, except probably some characters they are not comfortable with are included which may be listening to music, free-mixing with opposite sex and many other things that might not be their 'thing',

Apologies for taking this long!!

One of the challenges i have faced is common knowledge,

We need to start improving interactions between muslims. Most muslim singles dont often know how to speak with each other and especially the ladies they

are most times too self-conscious and uncomfortable interacting for my liking. We don’t know what to expect of each other, and cannot always speak openly

with each other. Most times when we are interacting they have this feeling that they are doing something wrong, which hinders and disrupts most

discussions as i want someone very open minded and not the yes or no type. I wanna talk about a variety of things and not just religion always!!

Also, Most sisters i would have loved to "go for" see us (guyz who dont cultivate the short trousers and beard habit) as unfit for them. They see anyone

who's clean shaven as obviously not devoted to his deen, and that a girl who’s observant enough to wear hijab deserves better.

If you have ever dated an "hijabit" you would understand , those who even go ahead to give us the opportunity are most times scared to even show these

guyz to their fellow sisters cos they feel its unethical or unbecoming of them and would be castigated by their fellows,

I dont like dat Muslims find it hard interacting wv d opposite gender. maybe because we are normally to lower our gaze or because shyness is part of faith or just because we are afraid of breaking the status quo. It is one of the reasons for opening this thread sha. Unfortunately we are so few here. Probably for the same reason.

If a sister sees u as unfit for her then u are not. simple.

look for people who think you are fit. there is nothing much u can change of people. I know many "unserious" muslims want to date Muslim sisters and they fail in many of their own responsibilities as Muslims. There was a guy who was always asking me to get him a Muslim sister nd I wld ask him if he deserves one. I dont blame them. I heard of a sister whom immediately after marriage, her husband asked to stop using hijab- what does dat kinda story tell others.

I dont think it is only about the dressing. If for example I study in a Nigerian University and throughout your years in school, I never see u or u av no record of ever attending an Islamic event, I wont take u as serious. I definitely av to be concerned for my future and that of my children. I would marry a man whom together we can have a Muslim home and not someone I feel otherwise about.

You shouldnt again be with some1 who is not proud of u. its a waste of time

Finally, u av two options- to either become a better Muslim(I know many people use d trousers as an excuse but it sure is not the only thing) or to find Muslims in your own league.
