Sissie: @deols I totally agree with you this is about how awkward, not about the process of going to ask him. Telling his mahram or her own isnt the point, the point is will a lady even bother to show the interest and even go ahead to tell her mahram. Best or better way isn't the issue.
And true even thou something is better it doesnt mean, the other scenarios isn't allowed in Islam.
And in this situation we are assuming he's single and searching, and that he's a good Muslim brother. Exactly. |

yemi 22: Powerful Tips for the Last 10 Nights by Tawfique Chowdhury
1. Do not let your 'performance' until now affect your last 10 days. The moment of forgiveness could be today or anytime in the coming days! It is not all lost! If you sincerely wish it could have been better - Chin up and get ready to make it your best yet! Start with a positive, sincere intention!
2. Today, take a little time to read the Tafseer of Surah al-Qadr to understand what actually happens this night! You will feel its power & greatness so much more!
3. Do not wait for the 27th Night to give it your "all". The entire last 10 days should be your target. Stay up each night! Would you want to miss Laylatul Qadr even "by chance"?
4. Do not fall into any innovations/celebrations any masjid or culture might try to promote. Follow the Sunnah! The Prophet (sallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam) guided us simply: "Whoever stays up and prays on Laylat al-Qadr out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.”
5. Memorize and keep asking the dua' taught by Rasulullah (sallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam): Allaahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibb al-‘afwa fa’affu ‘anni (O Allaah, You are forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me).
6. Prepare a short dua' list. Remember this is as awesome as it ever gets for a servant of Allah! The Night of Qadr, of Destiny! Consciously pick each and everything you crucially wish for in this dunya, in your deen, family, and in your aakhirah! Don't forget to include the brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering and in grief!
7. Take brief naps during the day, if possible. Keep your stomach light and sleep as soon as you have prayed 'isha. Do not delay! After a brief nap, refresh yourself and get ready for worship.
8. Don't neglect your family! Rasulullah made it a point to wake up his wives throughout these nights! And yes, your children are not too young to stay up some part of the night - if they can be allowed to play video games or watch TV, they can be inspired to be up atleast for sometime! Prepare them, make them excited, plan some activities for them to do!
9. Look the Part: The way we dress and prepare has a big effect on our psychology. Wear your best, perfume yourself, and feel the energy!
10. Choose a spot, whether in the Masjid or in your home, where you can have peace and solitude. Keep your mushaf, praying mat, and water at hand so that you are not distracted by constantly getting up for this or that.
11. IMP: This is not the night to tweet pics or update FB statuses about how amazing the night is and how you are feeling & worshipping Allah! Let that be a secret between you & your Rabb! So switch off those phones, wifi, laptops and computers. Disconnect with the world, and connect with al-'Afuww!
12. If you find yourself feeling sleepy, vary your acts of worship. Alternate between qiyaam, heartfelt dua'a, reading the Qur'an. Do not spend the night listening to lectures or recitations. Or do it only for a short while when you feel the sleep coming on!
13. Patience is the Key: The last 10 days might be tiring. You might still have work or school. This is the time to bear all that hardship, and keep firm sabr. Think how Allah has blessed you with this tremendous opportunity that might NEVER come again in your life again. If you knew for sure that this was your last #Ramadan, if you knew certainly that Jannah was up for grabs, wouldn't you sprint for it no matter what it takes?
14. This is most important: Keep husn adh-dhann bi Allah (good expectations from Allah). When you ask, remember you are asking the Most Generous King. If you hope for the best, He will give you the best. Don't hold back. Trust in Him, pour out your heart in front of Him, and let no doubt, no barrier, no evil thoughts keep you away from ar-Rahman, ar-Raheem! |

Did you say facebook?
Short of words....,..
If interested in such, try to know first if such person won't abuse such opportunity, afterwards tell him someone is and would like to contact his parent for proceedings... You are the funny one here. Calling someone you dont know a mummy and then asking that a girl seek a man's hand through his parents. @All, pls add to this thread - https://www.nairaland.com/1375050/itikaf-last-ten-days-ramadan |

I'm not sure most guys wouldn't like a woman proposing. in fact,on the contrary,it makes the whole business easier for the guy (i mean a serious and really matured guy o). I have experienced such a thing before and i did not degrade the lady in question. in fact i respected her the more for her courage!!!....But for her religion, she would have been the 'one' lol Now if we have situations like this, why would people still think that women making the proposal puts them in a disadvantaged position. |

tbaba1234: Responding politely won't make it less awkward.
A sister should go indirectly, much better for her. She has to make sure the guy comes to see her mahram, if he agrees. No secret conversations, he has to be man enough to do so.
She could be vulnerable, just going alone to meet a Man for this purpose. Men would do and say anything to get with a lady.
It is beyond maturity. An indirect approach is better even from an Islamic perspective. I am sure the issue is more about how awkward than how Islamic. But the Islamic part is even the easier as the question would be, is it allowed? And Yes. It is.you can say somthn else is better but it doesnt change the fact that a woman is allowed yo make the proposal in Islam. Now a woman being vulnerable is somehow. At this age, even men dont go and meet women on the street. Her vulnerability isnt in question. Only a silly woman would go into a place where she can be taken advantage of. In fact, I dont think such a lady is the type we are talking about here. Now,I maintain that maturity is what distinguishes men. And this is not a matter of age. More about environment, confidence and self esteem. |

It appears the guys here wouldnt like a woman proposing to them.
I think we should have moved past that level. I believe maturity is key.
A girl going out to do the asking definitely has weighed her options. She's aware that the answer could be a no. All the guy has to do is respond POLITELy. Here is how he shows that she was right to have considered him in the first place. he shouldnt go about telling everyone of how she had asked him out. |

Sissie: I think the question is how do you come to the conclusion she might be engaged. That. But also, do men see the ring a woman is wearing as a sign that she might be married/engaged? I know that d lowering of d gaze is essential but a woman's hands arent part of what must be covered. |

The tongue is a very powerful weapon, you can alway talk to anybody the you see to be faulty... Dialogue!
Help such person out by showing him is errs, so that he ll make amendment and won't plunge ahead in such deficiency. The Prophet (Sallallähu alaihiwa sallam) narrated that Allah said: “My love is incumbent for those who love one another for My sake; My love is incumbent for those who sympathize with one another for My sake; My love is incumbent for those who meet one another for My sake; My love is incumbent for those who spend on one another for My sake. With the engagement mentioned, I have a question o. Do Nigerian men check women's hands to know of their engagement status. I mean does a band mean anything to Nigerians? I asked because a girl was disturbing me about wearing rings. She said they would keep suitors away? But why on earth shouldnt I wear what I want? And do Nigerians take the bands seriously? |

showietee: Ask him out? Lol...
If a sister feels so, she should tell a matured and understanding adult to help arrange the whole thing and it might not end us being that she perceived him first....
May Allah increase His mercies on us and give us the best spouse.
AMEEN SUNMO AMEEN! There is nothing wrong with her asking though. It is Islamic. |

Sissie: It may be that she thought the guy was humble (and the guy may be humble really) and then she asks him out and he gradually starts feeling cool about himself, human behavior can be complex LOL. And that is the reason to get him dumped like right after the proposal so he can realise how silly he was. I didnt even make a proposal but when this guy who thinks he is too fine and too-having a good career started feeling like a Lord, I quit straight away. Now he is all over my face when I was long gone(and it wasnt acourtship ..gettn to know each other long phase ) I cant tolerate such behaviour from men. I expect men to be MEN. |

I put consequences aside and do 'things' sometimes. I might just do that in this case. But I cant be sure that I would since I havent been in a similar situation before now.
I have a much younger friend who's done it and we went wow on her for being 'brave'.
Fact is, a man who would start feeling 'good' because she asked him out doesnt sound like the type I'd be interested in, in the first place. I might just dump him just after the 'proposal'. #allergictoidiocy or immaturity? |

If bashfulness is keeping her from saying Yes, she's probably not mature enough for a union.
By the time she's ready, she'd have learnt the terrain. |

Amin. Wa alaykum salam deols: SalamuaLaykum.
As we all know, the ‘last ten days of ramadan’ is here!, the most important part of which is a night, the Laylatul Qadr, a night greater than a thousand months !We, as Muslims are encouraged to seek this night by staying in seclusion, This seclusion is I’tikaaf. This write-up is aimed at providing the basic things to know of I’tikaaf in order to get the full benefit of it. May Allah help us!
I’tikaaf
I’tikaaf literally means to stick to something and block out every other thing. In this context, it means seclusion, intending intimacy with Allah. It is Mustahab(desired) but becomes Waajib(compulsory) on anyone who made a vow to perform it. It can be performed at any time of the year but is of much importance in Ramadan because of the seek for the Laylatul Qadr.
Conditions for I’tikaaf
It has to be in a mosque.
It may or may not be accompanied by fasting.
The least period for it is a night but is best done for the whole of the last ten days.
The best time to enter it is after solatul subh and the prophet would leave it after subh on eid day.
what nullifies I’tikaaf
intimate intercourse (…but do not associate with your wives while you are in retreat in the mosques, Q.2:187)
Desirable acts
All the acts of worship are encouraged at this time- voluntary prayers, Qur’an recitation, repentance.
Give charity, increase in good deeds.
The prophet especially taught us to say-Allahuma innaka afuwwun tuhibbul afwa fafuanni.
Don’t forget
This is the time to ask Allah for all the things you want. Don’t be too shy or reluctant to ask and don’t you think your sins can prevent you from asking. Remember, he knows you in and out and he is the oft forgiving, most merciful!
WHat Allah says

3- the night of power is better than a thousand months
