The purpose of this topic is to inspire the young stars and encourage hard work. Every single person on this list has worked their tails off. They've taken risks that were too risky for most, they've invested heavily in the country unlike many that have already given up, and they continue to provide jobs with attractive pays to young Nigerians all around the country.
@richywhite, apart from identifying Nigerian thieves and being a part-time moderator on nairaland, what else are you doing to develop your country?
A conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image is a disease of the mind.

There is nobody glorifying corruption or stealing, we are only promoting hard work and believing in oneself or one's dream.
Lighten up, brother.

Without question, Adenuga should be the richest.
He has his fingers sooo deep in the three most lucrative sectors of the economy- Oil & Gas(upstream), Telecoms and Banking! That's deep!
Dangote on the other hand is basically a trader.(no disrespect intended)

The reason Adenuga is not on Forbes is simple- no PLCs. Forbes basically makes assessments based on quantifiable wealth and for Nigeria they make do strictly with stock values.
Otedola is on the list this year because of his shares in AP. Zenon was probably barely taken into consideration!

Bristol Palin Dumped By Baby Daddy
Another triumph for the good ole family values espoused by Winkin' Sarah Palin. Maybe if she'd had a heart-to-heart talk with her daughter a few years ago, about sex, contraception and other more practical matters, her daughter wouldn't have got pregnant so early. But she was probably too busy planning her path to world domination. You betcha
The Wicked Witch of North.

Step forward all those gullible enough to have believed the 'family' charade during the election campaign. This engagement had shotgun (and convenience/damage limitation) written all over it. Or perhaps the bigots couldn't hear the guns being cocked over the priceless anti-Obama chants like "terrorist" and "kill him".

, And what's Douche Limbaugh's take on these developments?
how's the winkin freak gonna spin this, me wonders,
if americans had ANY sense of irony, they really would see this bristol saga as illustrative of conservative idiocy/lunacy on 'family/christian values (ie. abstinence etc). however,
Really? And all those evangelicals being soooooooo supportive during the campaign, And what is she now? Just another single mother. Nothing wrong with that of course, but the hypocrisy revealed is just outstanding.
It's a good thing that they're white ,God fearing, gun-toting, patriotic Republicans. Can you imagine for a second, the moral outrage that would have been on display from the likes of O'Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh, Coulter and all the other conservative commentators had this been Chelsea Clinton, of heaven forbid, one of the Obama girls? The conservative right in America has an incredible tolerance for hypocrisy, and very little appreciation of irony.

Palin attended Wasilla High School in Wasilla, located 44 miles (71 km) north of Anchorage.[8] She was the head of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at the school, a member of the girls' cross country team, and the captain and point guard of the school's girls' basketball team that won the Alaska state championship in 1982.[7][9]

After graduating from high school in 1982, she enrolled at Hawaii Pacific College in Honolulu. She left after one semester and transferred to North Idaho College, a community college in Coeur d'Alene, where she spent two semesters as a general studies major in 1983. In 1984, Palin won the Miss Wasilla Pageant,[10][11] then finished third in the 1984 Miss Alaska pageant,[12]

In August 1984, she transferred to the University of Idaho in Moscow, where her older brother, Charles W. Heath, was majoring in education.[13] After two semesters at UI, Palin returned to Alaska and attended Matanuska-Susitna College, a community college in Palmer, for one term in the fall of 1985. She returned to the University of Idaho in January 1986, where she spent three semesters completing her bachelor's degree in communications-journalism, graduating in May 1987.[13]

While still living near Kendu Bay, Obama Sr. went to Gendia Primary School and shifted to Ng’iya Intermediate School once his family relocated to Siaya District.[1] From 1950 to 1953, he studied at Maseno National School, an exclusive Christian boarding school in Maseno that is run by the Anglican Church of Kenya. The head teacher, B.L. Bowers, described Obama Sr. in his records as "very keen, steady, trustworthy and friendly. Concentrates, reliable and out-going."[12]

Obama Sr. received a scholarship in economics through a program organized by nationalist leader Tom Mboya. The program offered Western educational opportunities to outstanding Kenyan students. [13] President Obama said of his father's scholarship, "The Kennedys decided: 'We're going to do an airlift. We're going to go to Africa and start bringing young Africans over to this country and give them scholarships to study so they can learn what a wonderful country America is. This young man named Barack Obama [Sr.] got one of those tickets and came over to this country.'"[14] An article by Michael Dobbs in The Washington Post, however, states that the Kennedy family did not become associated with the educational airlift until 1960, a year after Obama Sr. was studying in the United States. Initial financial supporters of the program included Harry Belafonte, Sidney Poitier, Jackie Robinson, and Elizabeth Mooney Kirk, a literacy advocate who provided most of the financial support for Obama Sr.'s early years in the United States, according to the Tom Mboya archives at Stanford University.[13]

Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, had for the second time failed to physically appear before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, saying he is too pre-occupied with his studies at Oxford University London.

Besides, he said the tribunal as presently constituted lacked the constitutional competence to try him over alleged non-declaration of his assets as required under section 15 of the Code of Conduct Tribunal Act 1990.

To that extent, the dismissed police officer has filed a notice of preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal to adjudicate on the charges slammed against him by the Federal Government.

Although his lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, who filed the preliminary objection, apologized for his absence at the tribunal, he later moved an oral application praying the tribunal to dispense with the presence of his client before the tribunal until the issues raised in the preliminary objections were determined.

He said: “We sincerely apologized for the absence of the accused at the tribunal. The time the charge was filed, the accused was not in the country as he had begun a senior fellowship programme at Oxford University.
“Even though the service of the process had not been personally effected on him, he insisted that I should enter appearance for him in utter respect for the tribunal.

“In response to the summons, we have filed a notice of preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal. In the circumstance, I urge the tribunal to dispense with the presence of the accused until the determination of the issues raised in the objection are determined.”

He cited the Court of Appeal decision in the case of Chief Gani Fawhenmi V Attorney General of Lagos and 2 ors (1981) 3 NWLR (pt.112) pg.707 at 721 to support his arguments, while adding that the summons was defective and should be resolved before the accused person could take his plea.
After listening to the submissions of Falana, the tribunal Chairman, Justice Constance Momoh, said the tribunal had accepted his apologies and explanations and was satisfied that at the time the summons was served on his wife, he was out of the country.

“We also accept that a motion challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal had been filed. The tribunal shall on April 23, 2009, at its Kaduna sitting hear his objections before he can take his plea.”
Ribadu had already instituted a suit before a Federal High Court against the Code of Conduct Tribunal and the Attorney General of the Federation, challenging the powers of the tribunal to try him.
The tribunal had on Wednesday, January 28, threatened to arrest the former anti-corruption czar if he failed to appear before it.
The threat came as Ribadu said he went underground for fear of his life.

It defeats the purpose of a mega city, when we only focus on demolishing private properties to produce this mega city. I think it is much more important to ensure the well-being of the people, the citizens that suppose to be living and doing businesses in this "mega city".
I totally agree with you. The purpose of the mega city is to serve the citizens. So, it would be better if Fashola could design a method that compliments both the mega city and the citizens.
We can not be killing one to produce the other, both entities must exist and function together.

Obviously, 2 of you are not in Nigeria, so, it would be unfair to blame you for seeing things the way you do.
Oil sector in Nigeria is a well established line of business. You will make your money even if you have 1 filling station. For Conoil, the idea of having multiple filling stations close to one another is only to make life easy for their customers.
It wouldn't surprise me if Conoil is losing more money for having too many filling stations around. But it shouldn't be all about the money at all time. Some times it pays to pay more attention to your customers and your policies.

As usual, the first thing that crosses Nigerians minds is how much money Mike will be losing if this new development becomes real.
Are we thinking about people that may be losing their jobs? Are we at all thinking about the inconvenience of the customers?

How much money Mike will be losing should be the last thing on our minds. The man has passed this stage very long time ago.

@Dapolam

Thanks for your understanding.

However, it is not enough for you to just take it in your stride, you need to reflect on the "hard facts" staring you in the face that have been exposed by this forum, and see what you can do to reposition your credibility. You should be more concerned with working on your image than chasing after house of rep.

Your assessment here is bad, but you can always make it better by charting a new course. Forget about this dream of 2011, focus on your credibility, try and build a formidable credentials over some years to come, and who knows, Oyo state peope might even be those rooting for you to contest for even Governorship in the later years.

After all said and done, I will be damn shocked to see your campaign poster for 2011 in Ibadan. And dont forget that Nairaland, as it stands now will be a good reference for your opponent to unearth the well-catalogued "sins" of the past.

A word is enough for the wise
@MT: you hit it right on the head.
It makes me sick when we start charity work and expecting something back. People that do charity work do it because it's straight from their heart.
Dapo thinks striking charity work would immediately erase his mess-up past or his father's past as a thief. Praise God, Nigeria is growing and we are waking up to see new light. This type of politics is no longer permitted in our society, enough is enough.

This kid needs to continue to use his stolen money and goods to develop his fake charity work or may I say exploitation of charity Ltd? Your father was there once and milked the Oyo land with no mercy. It's time to allow another family to show us what they can do to develop Ibadan. Electing or selecting you would be nothing but bringing back the past horror.

It is not going to happen in 2011 or 2030. Go get yourself a real job and stamp it in your head that it's a new day, Nigerians are not fools anymore.

At first, I didn't want to get myself involved in this untidy topic, but I can no longer take it.
Is this the lowest point of Nigerian politics?
How could anyone blame Dapo? All he knows and sees is using politics to make easy money.
This fool and his entire family became very rich over-night. The father didn't waste any time when he was in office, he stole billions of our money immediately he became governor.

Right before he became the governor, this family (Lam Adesina's family) couldn't afford to eat 3 square meals a day, they were just like another struggling Family in Felele Ibadan but thanks to politics and the miracle of stealing, things quickly changed for this family like day and night in just few days in the office.

Dapo, if you honestly care about Ibadan people as you've stated many times, please continue to use some of the stolen goods to further develop your "fake" charity work and stay far away from politics "It's well OK to use Abu's money to entertain Abu".
Your father has stolen enough, destroyed enough families and triturated the future of this country.

Everybody in Ibadan knows this family, nobody has anything nice to say about you, your brother, your sister, your mother and certainly your father. In-fact, some believe that your father bought your way to UI. You were in polytech, but transfered to UI few months after your father became governor. Please check the record.

Kobojunkie, Kobomoje, B.O.S.S and others, this fool must be stopped by all means. He has nothing to offer, the difference between his family and Adedibu's family is not that much. Both families are lowlife common thieves, that took advantage of poor Ibadan people and destroyed the entire empire.

Creative, I totally see your point, but please take your time and get to know this hopeless thief before allowing him or his family to discolor your image. One has to stay far away from these people.

And you, little toksajayi, it is Ok to show support, but it is sad, very sad to know that what you're craving to eat has totally decayed your weak mind set. You continue to make fool of yourself, your entire family and your people, all because of few Naira.
It makes me sick to witness how young people in this country are starting to quickly lose themselves, their soul by following the same path that got us here.
little toksajayi, i have 5 words for you, "self respect and self esteem". You worth much more than what you've shown us on this forum. Get yourself together quickly and stop dragging your poor self on muddy floor

We do not care if Dapo has changed his ways, we just don't ever want to see this family again in politics.
If we can't stop you people, God will stop you.

Interpol trails el-Rufai to US
Lanre Adewole, Abuja
Monday, January 12, 2009
THE International Police (Interpol) have reportedly trailed former Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, to the United States of America, contrary to reports that he was in the United Kingdom.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had declared him wanted over an alleged N32 billion fraud while in office. The commission subsequently enlisted the cooperation of the Interpol to get him arrested.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the Interpol had been communicating with the anti-corruption agency since the latter was able to prove that el-Rufai actually jumped bail in Nigeria after he was released on bail in June 20, 2008.

The latest information from Interpol to EFCC about the former minister’s whereabouts, according to sources close to the commission, stated that he currently stays in a hidden residence in Boston, USA.

The reports being circulated by those close to him said that he was residing in the United Kingdom. Apart from his abode in Boston, el-Rufai was also said to have been traced to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, where he reportedly made several trips to meet with some of his associates.

The associates are said to be responsible for movement of documents from Nigeria to him abroad. The commission had said that el-Rufai was wanted “for abuse of office and misappropriation public funds to the tune of N32 billion.”

A statement signed by EFCC’s spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi, read “The need to declare el-Rufai wanted became imperative following his failure to honour a simple invitation from the commission to respond to weighty allegations levelled against him in petitions being investigated by the commission.”

The commission had summoned el-Rufai to appear before it on November 28, 2008. The commission claimed that instead of honouring the invitation, the former minister wrote back through his counsel, requesting the commission to send its questions to him.

He based his request on his participation in an examination abroad. Babafemi further noted that “this prompted the commission to grant him another three weeks grace. But instead of seizing the opportunity to respond to the weighty allegations against him, he has resorted to a hide-and-seek game and an appalling show of impunity on the pages of newspapers.”

Speaking on the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), el-Rufai dared the commission, saying that he would not honour the invitation.

According to him, “I am a student; I cannot leave my studies to come to Nigeria to answer questions from anybody because I am not a government employee.”

uk requested evidence to prosecute ibori from the agf and nigerian minister of justice, mr michael aondoakaa, "as per international rules, this is how it's done". since ribadu was the person that was working on this case, mr michael aondoakaa immediately sent a message to ribadu, requesting for the evidence for review and approval before sending it to uk. ribadu acknowledged the message from the agf but did not respond for many months. uk again sent another message to the agf requesting for this information for the second time. agf again immediately sent a reminder to ribadu. ribadu acknowledged the message for the second time, but still did not release the information to the agf. few months later ribadu sent a message to the agf informing him that he (ribadu) had sent the information directly to uk. agf was very upset and notified the president and others. friends and associates of ribadu also made it clear to ribadu that he shouldn't have disrespected not only the agf and the president, but the sovereignty of nigeria. ribadu did not care and felt firmed about his decision to send the information directly to uk.
few weeks later, the judge in uk that was responsible for the case rejected the information ridadu had sent, the judge stated that the information did not have necessary signatures. therefore ibori's case was temporarily dismissed. the judge made it clear that he wasn't going to admit the evidence and proceed with the case without the signature of the agf. agf on the other hand was already very hot about the way ribadu had initially handled the situation. when the news got to nigeria, nigerians did not bother to understand the real story behind the situation, they immediately started to speculate that the agf and the presidency are fighting against "war against corruption in nigeria". this is not right, and instead of all of us being bias or choosing sides with a very little knowledge of the matter, i think we should all slow down and promote doing the right thing properly and always playing by the rules regardless of the matter. i honestly wished ribadu, as a bright and educated individual, could just relax and exhibit intellect, instead of overreacting and taking wrong steps like an illiterate man. this is a country's business we are talking about, but ribadu sees this business as his neighborhood's business and feels that he could handle it any way he wants. this is wrong and also defeats the purpose of fighting for the country. things did not have to go down this way, if he wants his legacy to stay alive for many years, he needs to cool down and go back to reevaluate his homework. not only nigerians are watching, but the entire world is also watching the display of stupidity at it's best.
of course, we all see the scenario differently, but it is clear that ridabu is wrong. just because you're dedicated to fighting for your people and your country doesn't mean you should do so any how or any way. nobody is above the law, we are all nigerian citizens before anything else, the rules should always be followed. nigeria has turned to what it is today because everybody has different rules that they follow.
this is the begining of ribadu's trouble with the fed govtmnt of nigeria.
I second.

Adenuga, Globacom chairman, linked to £350m deal to buy Newcastle United

One of Nigeria’s wealthiest entrepreneurs, Mike Adenuga Jnr, together with three others, is said to be among a group of Nigerians lining up a bid for English Premiership club, Newcastle United, reports ITN.

Mike Adenuga Jnr, who is the chairman of Globacom with 100 percent ownership of one of the country’s telecommunications company, also controls high stakes in Equatorial Trust Bank, Conoil, with interest also in real estate. Globacom serves 18-million subscribers, making it Nigeria’s largest operator after MTN, within West African sub-region.

"Mike is a businessman and loves soccer. He is already sponsoring the Nigerian league and it’s not unusual for him to have an interest in a team like Newcastle," said a source from London, report ITNewsAfrica.com

Chris Nathaniel, of NVA Management, who is fronting for the group of businessmen, said that a bid has been submitted last Friday and that they are awaiting response from the club.

Prior to this development however, there were media reports that the group whose members remain a closely guarded secret - have come up with 350 million pounds so far but want to find an additional 100 million pounds to secure the deal.

Apparently also reacting to misgivings about the authenticity of the deal, Nathaniel talked up the seriousness of the people behind it. "It’s a serious offer, they’re very serious business people and passionate football fans,’’ he said.

Owning a Premier League club could bring large-scale marketing opportunities both in Africa, where English sides have a huge fan base and globally, and the belief is that Adenuga is looking to tap into that opportunity.

With the bid already in, the consortium wants to be sure they can put in place the management they want before they will consider raising their bid, as it is understood Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is holding out for higher offers.

"Newcastle want more money but the Nigerians are researching possible management structures and not offering more until they know they can get the management they want," a source close to the negotiation said.

Ashley put Newcastle up for sale last month, having fallen foul of the fans after manager Kevin Keegan, hugely popular on Tyneside, resigned saying he did not have full control over the buying and selling of players.

Nathaniel, the London-based businessman coordinating the Nigerian offer, said last week that the Nigerian group could ask Keegan to return as manager if their bid succeeded.

Nigerian consortium bids for Newcastle UnitedReuters
LAGOS, Sept 29 (Reuters) - A consortium of Nigerian tycoons has launched a bid to buy ailing Premier League football club Newcastle United, the businessman heading the bid said on Monday.
Chris Nathaniel, who runs London-based football and entertainment consultancy NVA Management, told Reuters the consortium had presented its bid to the club late on Friday, but declined to give any further details.
Nathaniel said in an interview with Reuters last week that the Nigerian group could ask fans' hero Kevin Keegan to return as manager if their bid succeeded.
Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley put the team up for sale two weeks ago, having fallen foul of the fans after Keegan resigned saying he did not have full control over the buying and selling of players.
Nigerian media reports said last week that the consortium, whose members remain a closely guarded secret, had come up with 350 million pounds ($645 million) but wanted to find an additional 100-150 million to secure the deal. Nathaniel declined to comment on the size of the bid.
Ashley completed his 134 million pound takeover of Newcastle in July, 2007, but his relationship with the fans has deteriorated rapidly since Keegan's sudden exit on Sept. 4, just eight months after returning for a second spell as manager.
"Kevin's a legend on Tyneside and I think anybody looking to buy that football club would not be very smart if they didn't have Kevin involved in some capacity, that's if Kevin wants to come back," Nathaniel told Reuters last week.
He said he had not yet contacted Keegan about returning.
Nathaniel, one of whose parents is Nigerian, said the idea of a Nigerian bid for an English club came during a trip to the soccer-mad West African country this year with Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, one of NVA Management's clients.
He hopes the deal could create opportunities for young talent in Africa's most populous nation by using one of the local teams as a feeder club for Newcastle. (Editing by John Mehaffey)

I feel sad for Mike Ashley and Newcastle United FootBall Club

FORMER Newcastle chairman Sir John Hall yesterday said he felt sorry for owner Mike Ashley. The man who sold his shares to Mr Ashley also said he fears the possibility of big-money foreign investors who buy football clubs as "toys".

His comments came as a South African consortium was reported to have emerged as rivals to the Nigerian group looking to take over at St James’s Park.

And Sunday newspapers named Nigerian media billionaire Mike Adenuga as the man behind the bid fronted by football agent Chris Nathaniel.

He said: “When I met Mike Ashley and his advisers they had the best intentions for the club.

“He wanted to stay there and develop it so I feel sad for him and sad for the club.

“When he bought the shares I had lots of talks with him and his team. He was coming in to build for the long run and he is a football fan.

“Newcastle was a brand to him and he wanted to use it to market his business abroad – he had a long- term vision. He’s a good businessman but a novice in the game, as I was when I first came into the game.” Reflecting on the possibility of Newcastle joining the ranks of foreign-owned clubs, he added: “Roman Abramovich changed the game for ever. There’s nobody in Britain wealthy enough who’d be interested in investing. Even Mike Ashley was struggling and £200m is a lot of money.

“No way can the rest of the clubs compete. The debate at Newcastle will be – should they try to compete with the super-rich?

“It’s affecting the game. Can anyone compete? I think they are fools if they try.

“The Premier League clubs are being bought as toys, they’ll have them for a few years then throw them away, that’s my view.

“These people don’t know the passion of the fans. The Premier League is a tremendous brand but I fear for the game and for the fans.”

Interim manager Joe Kinnear suggested on Friday that Newcastle legend Alan Shearer would be brought into the club by the new owners, to work alongside Kevin Keegan.

But the former England captain told Match of the Day on Saturday: “There is no truth in that whatsoever. I don’t know where that has come from at all.”
