oloet: Agents are hustling for their own pockets, don't follow their words, they will dump you. I have had a second hand experience with one of them. When it happens, they won't pick your calls again. The installer that came for mine stopped picking his calls immediately after installation. You won't understand till you have an issue with the service @oloet how far,has your router been activated, mine has still not been activated o, after 4 days of installing the router. Pon and Wlan lights are on. Wlan light blinks now and then, but it's just on most of the time and doesn't blink. |

HeavenlyBang: First month of use was as good as it gets.
I experienced some downtime on about four different days, but each of those didn't last more than ten minutes at most. Most people wouldn't even notice, and regular mobile data gets more downtime than that.
Renewed my subscription at 25k for 50mbps. If September and October go well, I will likely switch to the 6 months plan for 120k and save some money. They've cancelled the six months subscription package, they said that NCC told them to do so |

I live in Bodija area of Ibadan and MTN Fiber just started working in my area early this month. I paid for mine on Monday evening and they installed it yesterday Wednesday and promised it would start working today (24 hours after installation) So I'm patiently waiting. Will give an update after using for some days. |

HeavenlyBang: MTN has had a Fibre broadband service for quite a while now but is now quickly expanding its coverage. I looked into it at the start of the year, and was happy to see them finally begin rollout in my estate months ago.
Here's a rundown of all you need to know about the service.
This post is not sponsored and is just my own personal experience.
1. Installation begins in my area around April 2025. Poles are installed, with the Fibre device mounted on poles.
2. After access point installation, I reach out to MTN customer service about joining the program. Also even go to the nearest MTN office to inquire. They are unhelpful and provide no information on when the service will become active in my locale.
3. I see them installing the poles around the area in May and take the contact of a salesman. We keep in touch and he promises to let me know when service begins.
4. In early June he tells me service has begun. I verify from a friend at the MTN office. I pay for it in late June. 25k. NIMC servers go down nationwide. All forms of registrations are put on hold as a result and I'm unable to have a profile created. Not MTN's fault.
5. NIMC servers are fixed in late July. On July 30th I receive my FN ID. The very next morning, Thursday July 31st, I get a call for installation. Installation is done but installation is done wrongly and the inept technician lacks the tools to troubleshoot.
6. Monday August 4 I receive a call from MTN for activation. But activation cannot be done because installation was done incorrectly. Issue is escalated. On Tuesday morning I'm visited by four MTN engineers who come to troubleshoot. They figure out what the issue is and team lead asks the installer to come and fix it.
7. Wednesday afternoon my installation is fixed. I call for activation and by ~7pm the service is active.
Why do I outline the events? To give an idea of how MTN's customer service is. I was impressed. The only big issues I faced were:
- NIMC servers - Bad installation initially (MTN does not provide their own installers, and this is actually outsourced)
Now for the important details.
1. MTN's FibreX is a fiber connection. A cable goes from the access point on a pole in your street, into your house. That, of course, means it's susceptible to more infrastructural issues. Poles may fall due to wind or anything, and access points may fail like all electronics eventually do. On the flip side, it's also a more stable service since it's not directly tied to signal reception I believe.
2. Installation is free. I only paid 25k for the 50mbps plan.
3. Availability is currently limited. As at the time of posting this on August 8 2025, MTN's FibreX is only available in 14 states. Abuja, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Kaduna, Kwara, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and Rivers. They are currently expanding, though. Two months ago it was only available in six states. It's also only available in select areas in these states. Typically the most high-brow areas where they're likely to have the most customers for a service like this.
4. You can confirm availability in your area using the MTN app. Just open FibreX, select new customer and plan you want, and all available locations are listed. It's not always up to date, though. My street hasn't been listed yet, for example.
5. There are currently five plans, defined by bandwidth.
20mbps - 15k monthly 50mbps - 25k monthly 100mbps - 50k monthly 150mbps - 60k monthly 300mbps - 100k monthly
And on to more technical information.
1. My Fibre X router is a ZTE F670L. It's not a particularly great router by most accounts, but that can be expected considering the fact that it's free. It also gets the job done.
2. The ZTE F670L lacks any sort of battery or backup power. And runs off a 12v 1A power supply. Ideally you need a steady power supply, or a power bank with a 12v output. Thankfully I have one from an older MTN router I bought. You can theoretically also buy a USB to 12v barrel connector cable and use with a regular power bank, assuming the power bank supports 12v output anyway.
3. The router interface is solid. Has all the necessary features including security controls, firewall and DNS settings with filters and the rest. There is no data usage page, however, but that's not really necessary seeing as FibreX is unlimited. Regrettably, my router does not pair with any of the ZTElink apps. I'm not sure if that's down to the router itself or modifications by MTN. Either way, you're stuck with just the standard web interface.
And on to speed.
I'm on the 50mbps plan and Ookla's speed tests generally always give a dl of 47-55mbps, and ul of ~25mbps. Ergo, just as advertised. Idle ping is typically under 30ms.
I've not had my speeds drop at all, even in peak usage periods around 5-9pm. I should point out, though, that I'm probably one of the few people on the service in my area at the moment. Not sure if that's a factor.
So far I've been able to stream ~8GB 4K movie files off my RD service without any buffering. I'm happy with it. It's a significant upgrade on Airtel's 30k monthly 20mbps unlimited plan which I was using prior. Speed tests usually start off with dl speeds of up to ~150mbps before dropping to 50mbps as capped by my plan, so I believe anything up to the 60k for 150mbps plan should be fine. I'm not sure it can deliver 300mbps, though.
As for range, I've had no issues anywhere in my reasonably large apartment even on the 5GHz network.
Pictures attached below. A big thank you to you for this fantastic,in depth and unbiased review.it help a lot and has answered alot of my concerns |

Keky: This is the speed test for Airtel ODU. Similar to MTN fibre, there is no need for the poles to be in your location. You are good to go as long as the Airtel network is good in your location. Hi, just wanted to confirm is this fibre? |

Mamaiyanu: Please is there anyone using their previous B1/B2 visas gotten before pregnancy to go and give birth recently? I have a valid US visa and I have travelled with it twice before. Can I use it to give birth? If not, what are my options? Do I send letter of intent or do I request for another interview? Please help guys I'm sure you'll be fine. Don't bother sending the letter of intent, you'll just be drawing unnecessary attention to yourself neither should you bother requesting for another interview. Just do the necessary preparations before leaving naija, like getting doctor and hospital appointments, evidence of funds to show you can afford paying your bills, adequate accommodation arrangements etc |

Mamabella: Goid say everyone. I hope you’re all doing well.
Please I need guidance from mamas who are versed in or have traveled from Lagos to US for birth tourism
1) Does it matter at port of entry whether you’re showing or not? And will it be easier if one goes before belly is showing
Baby is due in February, but I most likely will give birth in January as i will be going for an elective CS and was wondering about traveling in November or in December at 30 -34weeks
2) How soon can one travel back to nigeria after giving birth? Is 6 weeks after realistic or is this dependent on doctors approval
3) What are the documentations does one need to show at Point of entry?
4) Any suggestions on good and affordable hospital options will really be appreciated as I dont have anyone at the US. My advice to everyone going for birth tourism is to be prepared and answer all questions truthfully. In preparedness: Get in touch with a hospital and a doctor and get correspondence from them showing that you have booked an appointment with them and that the would accept you when you come. Have evidence to show that you can pay your bills, either you have the cash physically or you have it in an account that you can show. Have evidence of accommodation, either a hotel, short let, family member or friends. It has been discussed here that CBP officials in some point of entries are more lenient than others. Try and read up here,it will help you a great deal |

JadeWilliam: Ur baby is a US citizen. Tell the hospital case manager that u will like to apply for Medicaid. Do not let the hospital con u into paying out of pocket.
NICU bill will drown u. It’s ur baby’s entitlement. U, the parent doesn’t have to be a US citizen to do that. Ur baby is a citizen. There are so many Mexican immigrants that utilize Medicaid and they are not even PR. U have to be informed to know the way.
U can also call Medicaid urself or go to their office nearest to u. Just put it on google map. Goodluck and pray for ur baby. Wishing u the best Do this and kiss your us visa renewal bye bye. I can guarantee you that if you follow this route, you'll never be issued another us visa. To the best of my knowledge Medicaid is for tax paying us citizens |

FHMaryland: Hi,
Regarding the cost of delivery in Maryland
Used Holy Cross Hospital in Silverspring and OBGYN was Dr Block/office is capital women's care silver spring. I called the OBGYN office- faxed OBGYN letter from Nigeria and appointment was scheduled. They put me in touch with the Holy cross people. Cost breakdown: Hospital cost: elective C section $7K + Baby's cost ($4.5k) (before delivery you pay deposit $6-7K for mother and $1.5k for baby) The baby's cost was the surprise bill. After $1.5k deposit received a bill for $3k nursery fees for healthy baby. Did not ask for clarification- I just paid Anesthesia: $1K. OBGYN: Pregnancy package up to 6 weeks postpartum $2750 (does not include first visit $130, labs $460) Pediatrician visit: $100
Budget $15-17K for Maryland. Based on previous discussion here if I can remember correctly,Maryland is an expensive place to give birth. It was advised then that if you live in a border town or city, you should explore hospitals in neighboring states and it's better for them to give you cost upfront instead of waiting after having your baby and being slammed with some outrageous and ridiculous bill |

BigSib: Good morning house, please am new here and i will like any kind hearted one to please advice me on this,2022 after my first trimester before i knew that i was pregnant lol so along the line the pregnancy became complicated so i applied for emergency but i did not get an earlier date all dates that i was seeing were 2024 i tried to pull all strings but noting change so i now left all to God to take the wheel.Sept was my EDD and baby was about come and my life and my baby's life was in line hmmm but with GOd with me we both survived it and i return the praise and glory to God.so recently i got a mail from the embassy reminding for my appointment for 20224 please what should i do ?should i go and appear at the interview and say what?please help me if you think is a good idea to appear on the appointment day.thank you... I would advise you still attend the interview since you've already paid for it,it makes no sense to forgo the interview. You could say you are going for vacation,if you decide to go that route make sure you do your homework and make adequate plans, for example, places you'll be visiting, accommodation arrangements etc and most importantly have good home ties |

lalaH96: hello, really hoping I can find someone with a recent experience of giving birth in the US maybe 2022/23. I’m a South African married to a Nigerian man and we’d like to give birth in the US. What happens if you already have a visa valid for 10 years but haven’t travelled yet, then decide to use it for childbirth later. I’ve read threads talking about changing intent again? Do they really let you go through POE despite stating you’re there for child birth? It seems like a nerve wracking experience would love to hear from someone who has recently given birth there recently thank you 🙏🏽 There are numerous accounts of people that have given birth in 2022/2023 here, just go back a bit and read. I don't think you would have any issues if you already have a 10 year visa and want to proceed on a maternity journey to the USA. Emphasis should be on: Did you get the visa while you were pregnant and you didn't declare your pregnancy? If no,then proceed in getting a doctor's correspondence showing that you already have an appointment, making necessary accommodation arrangements and of course have proof to show that you are financially able to pay whatever bill you incurred. I think once the above is covered you can boldly tell them at point of entry that you are there to give birth |

Greatnewsalways: In the spirit of giving back, I would like to share my POE experience. I was nervous that he didn’t stamp my Passport and I was going to go back to ask but then I saw the people that were on the queue before me and when I asked they said their passports weren’t stamped. I also remember that while waiting on the line, I didn’t see him stamp the ones that went before me. I don’t know if this is a new system coz the last 2 times I visited USA in 2019 and 2020, I was stamped in for 6 months. Anyways, I got my luggage and headed home. MD is freaking cold- I honestly underestimated it but thank God for my host. Wishing everyone well and trusting God for testimonies on this thread. Thanks for sharing your experience. I had experienced my passport not being stamped before. Most probably you are permitted to stay for 6months and he would have noted it in his computer. There's actually a website where you can check by filling in your passport number, but I can't remember it now |

One of my family members that didn’t lie, but supposedly overstayed (stayed in the US for 2.5 months) still never get visa till today. 5 denials and counting. What do you mean by she supposedly overstayed for 2½ months? How many months was stamped on her passport at the point of entry? |

Taal17: I don't think you should have applied again after your refusal this September.
Leave it alone for at least a year. The visa is for you not your kids, visas are privileges you are not banned so relax. Try again in a years time besides your kids can vacation anywhere else.
If you want to look back at the interview then after they asked about you seeking medical treatment then you could have said you might consider giving birth in the future but this trip is for a vacation.
Now it doesn't matter, keep your receipts and try again next year. You didn't seek medical treatment on your first visit, you did on your second and third. You declared at POE both times. You paid your bills. Fortunately you'll get a CO that will give you room to respond. Hi, have you found an immigration lawyer,I can refer you to one in the us |
