Mamaiyanu: Good morning dear NLanders.
I just started reading up a few days ago and I've learned so much. Thanks to everyone out here for the valuable info
Have a few questions please. I have my interview in just about a weeks time, but I havnt yet seen an answer to some of my questions in previous posts. Please forgive me if it has already been answered but I'm scared I might not get to the answer before it's too late.
1. How much should be in my bank statements? Do I need exactly the amount in my budget sheet? Or a little more? My budget is about $10k (hope that's not too small), using 360 as the exchange rate, I have about 8k in my bank account and 5k in my mutual funds. Do you think this suffices? Do they actually consider the mutual funds statement? I was denied some years ago when applying for B2 and the guy just glanced at the mutual funds statement for 5 secs and put it aside.
2. I filled my uncle as my US contact and relative. However he is not a citizen, his papers are still being processed, but he told me he can legally stay in the US as long as it's still being processed. I hope this would not pose a problem at the embassy or at POE? Under his status I filled Legal resident
3. If this would pose a problem, can I fill another ds160 and change the one I have already filled without them knowing or having a record of the original form?
4. If I fill that I'm staying in an accommodation, would they ask me for proof of payment at POE? I don't want to be sent back if I don't have any o!
5. Also an accomidation would further increase my budget by about 2-3k$. Hope this won't be a problem as I would not have enough funds to cover the budget in my accounts Sorry for the long questions but I'm getting really desperate! Thanks in advance I think your total budget should be between something like 12-16k USD, 10k is a bit on the low side, taking into consideration that the budget is all inclusive ( air ticket,Dr, hospital, shopping etc). Your budget shouldn't be exactly everything in your account, there should still be something left to fall back on when you come back. Your mutual fund account should be ok for presentation. 2) You should be fine since your uncle is a legal resident. 3) Yes you can fill another ds160 if the need arises 4) Yes, they can ask for your hotel reservation,so you should have evidence of your hotel reservation just incase you are asked. You can book hotel reservation on booking.com without paying anything, payment is when you show up at the hotel in person. 5) You should have enough money in your account to cover your budget and even have extra left |

kalelbinl: Hello Gurus in the house, I must thank you all for all the good work... My wife on a B1/B2 visa had her baby in the US in December 2017 and we made sure to clear all the medical bills (zero balance). Before she traveled, we wrote the US embassy in ABJ to notify them of our intent of which they responded that it was OK to have a baby on that class of visa as long as we can cover the bills. Fast forward, just last week, I landed Heathrow to connect a flight to JFK New York. At the airline desk, a gentleman, probably an airport official or immigration officer (not sure who he was working for) approached me and asked directly "Your wife just had a baby not too long ago in the US, YES or NO?" I answered YES that I was infact on my way to the US to bring them back...that I was only staying for 9days (showed him my return ticket). He asked me to wait and got on the phone then came back to me after ~10mins and told me unfortunately I would not be allowed to board the aircraft to JFK, that that's the directive from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and that my VISA has been cancelled . When I asked why? He said I should direct my question to the US embassy in my country. Hmmm Na wah o! Your name must have been flagged by homeland security, for whatever reasons I can't fathom at the moment. Was your wife asked if she was pregnant when she applied for the visa? I think you are on the right track in trying to get answers. At times these people make mistakes too. I've heard of someone who was sent back as a result of a mistaken Identity,so if you've checked yourself and can't truly find any reason for this, then I'll advise you follow it up to a logical conclusion. Best of luck |

cindermum: ASAP please.... I wish you all the best.. But wait what will you say if asked why you went all the way to Nigeria to apply? Think about a good response to that. Apply as soon as you possible. If they ask why you came all the way to Nigeria to apply, tell them it was because you wanted your mum to apply with you. |

Sallybest: Hello all i am new to nairaland. my situation is.. i live and work in Qatar with DH, i travelled to nigerian to apply for a US visa with mom as i would be due in may. my interview (Feb 15 2018) 7.15am Abuja Answers: 1)I am not too sure, but I think he meant strong ties in Nigeria. 2)Yes,you can reapply from Qatar alone, and if granted, your mum can also reapply from Nigeria with a copy of your visa. 3)Yes, you can use your husband's dom account in Nigeria. 4)Same document I guess, letter from your employer. Evidence to show that you are married and that your husband is staying behind etc A very important factor I think is your reply to the question ' why give birth in America' I think your answer should be straight forward and truthful ie for dual citizenship, because they too know that's the reason why 99.9% of us make the trip. Best of luck.i hope you get it in Qatar. |

Does GT bank issue visa bank card for B2 or B1/B2 visa applicants?
Maybe you are mixing up visa bank card with B2 or B1/B2 visa I think what she means is what category of visa (B2 or B1/B2) should she pay for when paying for her visa at GT bank. Because GT bank is the only bank in Nigeria where you can pay us visa application fee. |

So I'll just show them the ticket from Chicago airport to Philly right? You won't have any problems, just have the connecting ticket from Chicago to Philly handy |

geebaby10: Hello All
I am new on this thread and I tried reading the beginning but I did not find what I need.
I already have a B1/B2 tourist visa which I used last year for a wedding. Please can I know the documents I would have to show at the POE? I already read that the letter of Intent is not necessary. So asides the documents i have listed below is there anything else?
1. Letter of acceptance/ bill for the hospital 2. Letter of appointment from Doctor 3. Quote from doctor 4. Address of where you will be staying and 5. Proof of funds for all
Also, given the experiences here what are the possible difficulties I may encounter and how do I prepare for them?
Also, I am about to make contact with the doctor, please can I see a sample first e-mail?
Lastly, do I have to communicate with the hospital directly or can the doctor can be a middle man between me and the hospital?
I know I have plenty questions but pleaseeeeeee help.
Thanks Haba this woman! Your question plenty o, but as you have apologized, let me try and tackle them one by one, lol. Even though it has been mentioned here that it's not necessary,I would still advise you to go ahead and get the letter of intent. In addition to the things you mentioned above,if you have a paid employment,I will advise you go with a letter from your employer stating that you are on leave. Some Dr's include the hospital cost in their correspondence,if you are lucky to have one of those ,then it's ok,but if not you might need to get intouch with the hospital to get their quote also. So yes,the Dr can also be a middle man between you & the hospital. |

Ddy2013: Hello house, an agent made a mistake filling married. I'm separated from my ex for years now and the case is still in court but i'm pregnant for some one else. And he is the one sponsoring my trip to birth in the US. What do i do as an interview date has been given and i can't have a court wedding while i'm still going through divorce process. So what do i do please? I don't know if this applies to your situation, but I've heard people say here that you can fill another ds160 form and call the embassy to swap it with the 1st one you filled. Its because of issues like these and others that you are adviced to stay away from agents. |

Chimzy09: Do you think she would need an invitation letter from her brother-in-law to support this? What they do most times if they are in doubt is call the brother in-law and ask if he is expecting anyone. But again I stand corrected,as per I'm neither a visa officer nor a CBP officer,my answer is based on my personal experience. |

Ojugunrege: Hello house, I picked my visa yesterday and it had B1/B2 even when i applied for B2. I told the VO i was going for childbirth & family vacation. anyone ever experienced ths before?
I booked an apartment on booking.com for my stay and that was what i told the VO at my interview. Now, my BIL who is a permanent resident is offering us accommodation in his house (he's married with children). Note that we just told him we were coming to Houston after we had the interview and it was successful. His brother & nieces (my husband & children ) will be joining me later. I hope that will not be a problem at the POE? I hope they will not say I lied at the interview & also that we are coming to crowd his space/be a burden to him and his family? It's normal for you to get B1/B2,even though you applied for B1. I don't think changing your accommodation arrangements is such a big deal for you to bother yourself about it,it can easily be explained away, plans do change now and then. That your whole family is coming to stay with your brother in-law is not their business, the important thing is that your brother in-law is there legally and that he agrees to accommodate all of you. |

semilore12: My people....please help chook mouth for this matter. I have a friend that got her visa for visiting in 2016. they used for the purpose it was obtained same year. In 2017, she used same visa for birthing (she sent notification of intent) without issues. The visa expires in May 2018 and she intends to go back for another missionary journey by June 2018. Due to the recent stories attached to Dropbox renewal, I advised her to jejely enter the US with her current visa instead of reapplying to avoid stories that touch. since her visa expires on 5th, i told her to enter US by 1st but she is insisting on renewal because she feels CBP officer might frown at few days left and just stamp her in for days/2 weeks. I am really worried for her and hope my fellow mamas in the house can help nail the matter on the head. I will show her all responses please don't wakapass oh......apologies for the long post As has been mentioned here times without number, entry into and duration of stay in the us is approved by the CBP, wether your visa has a day or 2yrs left. What matters here is that she's still within her rights to enter even is her visa has just one day left. She should just have her burden of proof |

olufuumy: I'm 8weeks pregnant and I will love to have my baby in the US, I have no previous travel experience + my husband's uncle lives in Houston TX(the man who raised my husband).
1. Is it adviceable to go ahead considering no travel experience?
2. What are the steps and procedures to take?
3. How much should I budget all together (I have a 2yrs old son)
Please advice. 1)Having travel history helps but it's not a prerequisite. A lot of people have gotten visas as 1st timers,so that shouldn't discourage you. 2) If you are really serious about this venture, you should take time out to read this thread extensivly, the advantages can't be overemphasized. All the information you need is detailed here. 3)It all depends on your budget, but averagely between $12k -- $20k. |

gretop: Good Evening my people. My wife will be going on her missionary journey sometimes in may and I want my mum to accompany her. My wife got her visiting visa in march 2017, we both went visiting for 2 weeks in sept 2017 (cos i have visiting visa too). She took in after this trip.
Now we want to go give birth and after alot of reading here, we plan to just send the change of intent mail for her to travel with her current valid visa while we apply for a visa for my mum who wud accompany her.
Pls is this a good plan? Or would it be best for her to apply for a medical visa? she still has a valid visiting visa which she used for that purpose?
Pls which visa should my mum apply for? Medical or visiting or B1/B2 (confused at this point) and what documents is she to go with for her interview? Also she has never travelled out of Nigeria before. will this be an issue?
Trying not to make a mistake, pls help me out my mamas and gurus in the house. Thanks. Since your wife has used her visa for what it was issued for,I don't think you guys are likely to have any issues.i also don't think it's necessary to apply for a new medical visa. Your mum should apply for b1/B2 visiting visa and tell them at interview that she's accompanying her daughter in-law to birth. She should go with your wifes Dr's correspondence, her visa page, your bank statement as the sponsor etc.Her nor have traveled out of Nigeria is inconsiqential. Just read up here, you'll find similar scenarios. |

Mamababy1: My questions are these, will i be asked about my ex? And with him being in the US pose a problem to me at the immigration especially at the poe? I have the divorce certificate and every other documents to show if asked. Secondly my Visa will expire while on this trip, is that a problem? Finally, do I need to notify the embassy about my intentions to use the same visa for child birth? I've already used it for same purpose on first issuance. Please gurus in the house, kindly advice me on the following questions. N/B during my second trip, I was only asked about my hospital receipts and zero balance at the Poe. My ex or marital status was never mentioned. The CBP officer most likely might ask you questions about your husband seeing that you are expecting a child and they might assume that you are married, it now depends on your answer. For example if you are asked, is your husband joining you on this trip, I think you answer should be something like,no or yes my partner will be joining me. Regarding your visa, what matters is that you enter the us before your visa expires. No,I don't think you need to notify the embassy. Don't bother yourself too much about this,I don't think it's such a big deal. Just hold enough evidence to support your claim incase it comes up. |
