take dat: Tinubu is the only surviving child of Mama.
In that case: oro ti p'esi je!

But sha, it could cause resentment towards the tinubu family sha. I know I'm starting to resent them.
PoliticsRe: Tinubu’s Daughter To Replace Abibatu Mogaji As New ‘iyaloja’? by Desola(f): 5:45pm On Jun 24, 2013
Moreover, why must it be tinubu's daughter? Didn't Alhaja Mogaji have other children? Tinubu just wants to eclipse his siblings sha!

Over zealous greedy man! Na only him mama born? Must he be the alpha and omega?9

Mynd_44: Iyaloja, balogun, Otunba and the afobajes........that's how it is. You can't chose a balogun from another family apart from those set aside for it na.
Balogun - I know, but iyaloja, now that is news to me.

So what if there was no other trader in the family? Moreover, shouldn't that title go to a much older woman?

I think it's preposterous that the title is hereditary though but who am I to say.

PoliticsRe: Tinubu’s Daughter To Replace Abibatu Mogaji As New ‘iyaloja’? by Desola(f): 5:26pm On Jun 24, 2013
Mynd_44: You and I know that the post of Iyaloja is hereditary. There is a house that brings forth the iyaloja. The oba will not wake up and go pick one from the Dosumu family na.

Anyone the Oba chooses will still be a relative of Tinubu whether you like it or not
Are you sure that the title is hereditary?
PoliticsRe: Tinubu’s Daughter To Replace Abibatu Mogaji As New ‘iyaloja’? by Desola(f): 5:20pm On Jun 24, 2013
Seriously though, it won't be funny if this were found to be true.

Tinubu might just have shot himself in the foot by so doing. At present, I'm still livid that his wife is the senator for Lagos. Making his sister an iyaloja would just be adding salt to injury.

The Oba should think thrice o.

enm: Lagos state does not need to tax more than they are already doing. Let the federal government today declared lagos a special status and more money to lagos and lagos to create or demand more tax, this problem will persist.

The problem is not the people rushing in on daily basis but corruption on the part of those at the helm of affair and their attitude to duty.

Tackle this problem and everything will fall into place.
It has clearly gone beyond more money now.

I don't want more money, I just want a check on immigration and string deterrence measures to be put in place so that these people can stay in their region and demand more from their government.

Enough is enough!

iykak47: Rubbish. Op(nairaland number one bigot), don't forget also to tell 'your' Lagos state to stop going cap in hand to Abuja for monthly allocation which mainly comes from oil.
Anyway i don't blame you, wise men speak because they have something to say but f00ls speak because they have to say something.
You appear to fall in the category of the latter.

PoliticsRe: Controlling Lagos' Borders... by Desola(op): 1:08am On Jun 24, 2013
kelvincoll: U probably should have titled it "controlling southwest borders" since the victims of ur concern as those "from the other part of the niger"... SMH

After we complain how Naijans are treated bad in other countries like South africa etc when we share same -ve attitude towards pple from a different tribe here. Recall the said influx of persons has increased the IGR via taxation etc which provides funds for better infrastructure in the same lagos

betterstill U could also help drum support for their long agitation for seperation from the nigerian state.
... But it has gone far beyond the imaginary igr now, hasn't it. Clearly, the revenues generated is not sufficient to cater for the teaming population and the constant daily influx is becoming alarming. Lagos is the smallest state in the country yet it houses so many people and all these people though not invited to Lagos are now dancing rights to basic amenities and infrastructures which is impossible to be met by the state government.

The sad part is come census, these people return to their states to be counted which translates to undue revenue allocation for their state government yet return to Lagos to encroach us, the bonafide citizens .
PoliticsRe: Controlling Lagos' Borders... by Desola(op): 12:57am On Jun 24, 2013
alj harem: It is really impossible given the fact that Lagos is under a country called Nigeria.
Is it, really? Isn't Lagos equally a sovereign state? If it has power to remove unproductive non-indigenes like it did some ibo indigenes then surely, it can be suggested that it possesses the power to control it's borders, non?

Your point being?
PoliticsControlling Lagos' Borders... by Desola(op): 11:46pm On Jun 23, 2013
Given the daily influx of migrants from other parts of the Niger which have led to an obvious stretch and greater burden on infrastructure, isn't it time that the state of Lagos starts to control it's own borders?

Nevertheless, is this initiative feasible given the freedom of movement rights of Nigerian citizens? If not feasible is the state therefore going to be left to its own fate until it fails or are there other control measures which can be taken to deter or control this surge?
PoliticsRe: Fasola's First-class Schools In Lagos by Desola(f): 11:38pm On Jun 23, 2013
qhiwegh: Wow, I really hit a nerve here, so much hatred against my moderate comment.

It's not Yoruba vs non-Yoruba, but simply arithmatics: how can Lagos state have enough money to provide for the education of poor migrant children from every part of West Africa? Now if the FG gives Lagos SG money for the extra residents then it would be ok, but FG doesn't do that.

Even if Lagos does have enough money to provide great schools for every child, then there would be an even larger flood of people to Lagos. Entire villages would be empty. Then we'd have a bigger problem.

The Lagos Megacity Project seeks to repatriate the poor, unskilled village migrants, and retain only professionals and medium to large merchants. This way, Lagos won't be such a dump, and would rank among the premier cities of the world.

A city is only as great as its inhabitants, and a city of semi-illiterate villagers from the bush can never be great. It takes time for the rest of Nigeria to become civilised enough for Lagos.
Do you think it would illegal for a state such as Lagos to control it's own borders? I think something ought to be done urgently.
