Having seen how the people and leaders of the Southeast have failed to provide progressive leadership for themselves and sought to extend conflict to other regions of the country.
Please explain this part. How has the leadership of SE sought to extend conflict? I can't seem to understand that part.

maclatunji:
While I have based my initial post solely on political/security considerations. You are basing yours on Economics.

Your point is valid. However in any such merging of states, the Southeast is likely to be merged into fewer federating units than any other region.

The easiest way for the Southeast to gain political ascendancy is to excel first such that others would want to benefit from it.

Kebbi was not afraid to collaborate with Lagos. Kano wants to do the same, Ogun copies Lagos structures in a wholesale manner.

The influence of Lagos and a Tinubu for example has grown as a result, not through hate or sedition.
If each state know there is no periodic 30 days freebie in sight don't you think they would sit up and make their states more conducive. If this was the case even a war ravaged Borno will look for a way to attracted industries.

Change of mindset is critical. Any governor in Nigeria can bring real development to their state as Nigeria currently is. Yet, they are usually quick to shift blame while they become instant billionaires by doing next to nothing.
You are avoiding the real issues here. Governors can bring change but why aren't they bringing it?
The governors themselves are active agents of corruption. Why should a LGA with less than 5 vehicles be having 40 drivers on their payroll? Why should governors be allowed to borrow with unstable abuja-allocation, when they have a IGR figure that's more predictable?

Having seen how the people and leaders of the Southeast have failed to provide progressive leadership for themselves and sought to extend conflict to other regions of the country.

We demand that the number of states in the Southeast be reduced to 2.

Afterall, Cross River State is approximately half the size of the Southeast states put together and the good people of this state have not caused trouble in Nigeria.

Merge the states of the Southeast into 2 and they too will probably learn to count their blessings rather than cause trouble with mischief.

Yes, other regions of Nigeria have problems but none has sought to drag the country into total anarchy for the most part with hate speech in particular and false news spread eagerly to ensure division and ultimately war.
While you pointed out that SE should be merged into two state I must add that Osun and Oyo can be merged back, same for Ogun and Lagos, Ondo and Ekiti, Kaduna and Nasarawa, Kebbi and Kano, Kogi and Edo, Benue and Ebonyi, Bayelsa and Rivers.
There is no point creating more units that can't cater for themselves. There should be a policy preventing the use of oil proceeds to pay salaries anywhere. IGR should be used as a yardstick for granting states loan and for rating. Taxing should be encouraged. A standard business model structure should be put in place across all MDAs in such a way that admin and utility technical staff can be transferred from one MDAs to another at most every 30 - 36 months.

The parasitic north, west and east sells and earn her own contribution that's hardly taxed into personal pocket while the ss sells and pays majority of her own contribution into the federal purse from where it is redistributed in a way that further favours the north. The injustice is too much. We need restructuring. Just Look at how dwindling crude price inspired a rice-revolution.
We must restructure. Imagine 15 years time when population is 250 million and oil dries up suddenly. No industries. No serious education. No adequate power. No civil understanding. Just population waiting on a empty govt for food.

I would agree we still need to explore more. Oil exploration is doesn't stop us from investing in other areas. More of oil shouldn't stop us from being productive only our lazy mentality does. As well the government coffers shouldn't be the only source for investment in all sectors of the economy.
If the easy oil money wasn't working against every other thing I would have agreed with you. Without a stop to the free easy oil dollar we will keep exploring and selling to pay salary and as long as people are getting easy money, no one will ask question or take serious decisions. Only parasites support easy money.

Well, the fact is that oil is still very lucrative, irrespective of the fact that its value has dwindled... And just like I said before, the exploration of oil does not stop any serious govt from developing agriculture or solid minerals. So you should should really stop blaming the exploration of oil as the devil responsible for the slow growth in other sectors.
Exploration of oil is the devil. We explore oil sell and spend without investing, and because we use easy oil money to pay salaries without laying emphasis on productivity nobody asks questions when the things that are suppose to aid true productivity go wrong. Things like good road, power, education, research, justice. Oil is the devil. We don't need more of it. Without oil price slump do you think we would have increases our rice production the way we did? Now imagine us doing same for flour, sugar, cassava etc.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) doesn't want the federal government to raise funds for infrastructure through Sukuk right?

It is very simple, CAN and their Christian or other supporters should simply provide the funds.

Infrastructure costs money and the people and government of Nigeria will not be too bothered it was CAN that provided the money for building better infrastructure.

CAN over to you.
Complex mumuism.
Did MURIC or other Islam bodies in Nigeria provide the sukuk money?
Thought you guys like to tag IMF and anything with Christian influence as Western.

You see how dubious you are. How does Sukuk prevent you from practising your religion?

As for your trying to differentiate between a Secular and Atheist state, save it for CAN #LOL

Even in the countries that brought Christianity to CAN members, Islamic finance is expanding rapidly.

So, the problem is dubious people like you trying to be intellectual about their bigotry.

It is a mission doomed to fail.
You must think we are brainwashed illiterate muslims also. Why go for sukuk in the name of a nation where everybody doesn't by into sukuk?
The stupid pattern of excuse you guys always use seek political domination is to claim the actions of others (infidels) restricts you guys from practising your religion.

Is it our problem that Christianity has no framework for finance except for 'try to form something as you go'?

All over the world, people are learning to embrace Islamic finance models but here in Nigeria, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) is only available to try to protest the manifestation of the fact that majority of the country has Muslims.

They claim Nigeria is a secular state, yet, in the second stanza of the national anthem, we start with 'O God of creation'.

The ignorant ones refuse to understand that we are a multi-religious country. #ShameOnThem
Shame on you.

That's was never the issue

State should be allowed to build their own plans and have their own mini grid
Having a mini grid makes little sense. Instead let the national grid prioritize supply to generating states. For example if a state generates 500MW it should be given 80% (400MW) for local use.

For every single kobo spent on petroleum exploration in Nigeria, there is obviously an opportunity cost. That is to say, even if it's just N100,000 spent, you could as well argue that that amount could purchase 12 bags of NPK fertiliser for distribution to farmers to boost agriculture. So please spare me that opportunity cost logic!

Oil exploration isn't cheap business, billions are spent every year on oil exploration to maintain and to potentially increase our production. As we speak, billions are still spent in exploration in the delta. You only clearly have a problem with this very exploration in the Chad basin purely because it is in the north - regional/ethnic/political sentiments.
ha ha ha . . . I sense the popular Ipob/Afonja against the north bias in your tone here. The logic is same to me whether north or south. Of all our potential, oil appeals most to govt of change, that's a daft move to me. Agric is there, Steel is there. Steel could have generated much more with the current price of oil but no the govt see oil as next best thing to oil.

Oil is still a proven source of income all over the world, while it is important to develop other sources of income, there is absolutely nothing wrong in also expanding the potential income we can get from oil. Diversification means opening new sources of income, it doesnt mean throwing away a proven source.

As we speak, there's also oil exploration going on simultaneously in different parts of the country (including the south) with new reservoirs bèing discovered from time to time; that is how Nigeria has been able to not only maintain its oil production, but also increase it over the years. You obviously have a problem with that only because it is in the north, quit your needless emotions and sentiments and educate yourself on how oil is found. The Chad basin has the characteristics of a reservoir where oil can be found; oil is already being produced from the other side of the Chad basin which falls in Chad.
You almost made a valid argument. The missing piece being that the cost of crude oil exploration is high enough to impact other sectors like agric greatly. Why gamble on dwindling oil. It showed the govt was lost in terms of idea.

The govt buhari/apc could certainly do much more, but insinuating that Nigeria could possibly be lifted from poor to rich status in 2 years is laughable. More so in 2 years of an oil price slump for a country that relies on oil sales for over 90% of its forex income.
Aren't we looking for oil in Borno? I insist.

Shut u your unbrushed teeth denying the undeniable fact. Hypocrite like you will start calling Islamization shall sunday be removed form public holiday.

For most Christians, Sunday is observed as a day of worship and rest, holding it as the Lord's Day and the day of Christ's resurrection. In some Muslim countries and Israel, Sunday is the first work day of the week. According to the Hebrew calendars and traditional Christian calendars, Sunday is the first day of the week.[1] However, according to the International Organization for Standardization ISO 8601, Sunday is the seventh and last day of the week.[2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunday
