Aphrodite007: I think banning it because they believe it is not accurate is a silly reason. If they arrest the wrong person, shey they will free the person when they investigate and find out that they arrested the wrong person? They can’t even arrest without the person being a suspect first.
If however they want to ban it because of the invasion of privacy, yes that one makes sense but if the rollout can stop people like hitler before a huge massacre or if it can stop pedophiles, please I support it. I dont think it's a silly idea since they know its not accurate. Arresting an innocent person and releasing them later can have devastating impact on innocent people. And black/coloured people will be the most affected by this face recognition system. Else they will end up paying out every time! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-51255287 |

mrphysics: The emboldened is a lie and I am sure you know that.
Secondly, we need something that is consistent in it's delivery. Once nuclear start operation, it can go 6 months without going off or being shot down. It does not depend on anything unlike our current source that depends on rainy season etc. Also, we need to reexamine how we distribute light. Once nuclear starts operation, it should be targeted to some areas say Lagos, Ph, Abuja where it can be paid for. You are more of an insider than I am, Are you saying 4000mw currently being distributed in the whole country is what we are generating? Or perharps, all our generating plants gets gas and are being put to use? Nuclear is consistent quite all right but if it cant get to the end users, whats the main advantage over other? As a crude oil producing country we sure can meet and surpass our gas needs esp for power. Perharps another thread, think people are more interested in living and studying in France |
Travel › Re: My France Picture Gallery by DisGuy(mod): 7:49pm On Jan 25, 2020 |
mrphysics: 1. How many do we generate that distribution is the problem? To me, distribution is a minor problem. The biggest problem of distribution is that all generated electricity is sent to a central collection point before being distributed back to different parts of the country (Except Abuja). Imagine transmitting all electricity to (forgotten the name of the city), before retransmitting back to other areas. This leads to grid collapse and loss of electricity. Also many countries even developed countries lose energy due to heat in transmission. The major point is that we don't even generate enough. Imagine a country of 200m people using 4000MWe.
2. @emboldened, it's not many countries, just few if not one - Germany. However a lot of countries are building more, even Iran has one and still manage it. Turkey is building, South Africa (already overtaking us), China, etc. however many we are generating if we add nuclear, will that get to everyone? I dont think so Yes we are using 4000, which is not enough, but we can actually generate more than that, there's no point generating more if the system can only transmit about 7 and only about 4 is distributable - last I read about 10 idle generating plants in the country |
Travel › Re: My France Picture Gallery by DisGuy(mod): 6:46pm On Jan 25, 2020 |
MrPhysics Building Nuclear Plants wont solve the distribution issues, our main problem is transmitting and distributing the power we actually generate Secondly considering many countries are doing away with their nuclear options for newer more efficient ones..why should be prioritize nuclear? IMO it's in the interest of those countries with nuclear expertise to promote the nuclear option for Nigeria. Instead of a Nuclear Plant...the mambilla project if it ever becomes a reality will be a massive plus Nuclear PP is a focused niche. It has a set budget for each amount of electricity. It is an area where you can track progress and monitor generation because it is highly regulated. Activities of NPP is not only monitored by the host country but by the international community. Every country currently constructing a NPP is known, the stages are there and it is closely monitored. This makes it highly efficient in it's delivery and hard to steal fund. very valid point/advantage |

Bankalert: Just came back from the UK, London specifically on a I hope to go there for studies though this year and come back....
But my plan is to move to another Country in Europe after my studies in UK. Is this feasible? I mean using a UK certificate to work in let's say Germany, France or Finland for example. Why not study in those countries so you can transition to work afterwards? Your years studying there should count to your advantage and you will pick up the language and culture along the way |

Travel › Re: Lagos BRT Operator Plans Upward Review Of Fares by DisGuy(mod): 7:42pm On Jan 08, 2020 |
CsRockefeller: I knew it would come to this, the last review was from N70 to N100 from Mile 12 to Fadeyi axis while anything farther than Fadeyi was increased from N120 to N200.
However, it is important to note that this isa BOT arrangement. The Government buys the buses, renovates the bus stops/his shelters and reconstruct the roads. The private sector, in this case Primero only manages the buses and pays overheads.
In cases like this, there is a specified amount to be remitted by Primero, weekly or monthly as the case maybe to the LASG. Now, if the cost of operations is rising, a sane Government can reduce the profit sharing formula so as not to make the consumer/Lagosians bear the burne of a hike in fare. So, if it was a 40-60 sharing formula, Government can decide to reduce its share to 30-70.
BRT must not be seen to be elitist, the masses depend massively on it. We haven't solved the problem of underutilization of the BRT buses now, they want to create another issue.
Lagos needs more buses, especially the high capacity ones like what the administration of Ambode bought, however, the narrow roads remain a big challenge. Are they making profit? Surely they have to pay the loan used in buying the buses, no? If the SG is providing the buses for the operators the money will have to come from somewhere... |

EgunMogaji2: Excellent point Sir, thanks.
Whatever you do, do not entrust friends and family.
My suggestion is this:
1) Stockpile war funds little by little into your local bank account (never use your Nigerian address where you live in at your bank). You can do this from the comfort of your phone in the USA or most other developed countries. This is crucial. Don’t wait for a huge sum. Even as little as $500 is something.
5) Don’t buy in forests, don’t buy from yahoo estate that are using Ponzi schemes. Instead look for already developed area with properties that have cofo.
Good luck. Very solid point here, people keep selling the lekki story like it's a general phenomenon. There are places that are still waiting for electricity after 30years!! Nigeria's development is very frustrating...mum bought land for investment and retirement home in badagry many years ago - Fashola first term and was contemplating doing the same. Been salivating over all the masterplans, new energy city, 10 lane super highway with train going to lagos city centre, proximity to the beach and west African border etc Alas, the road got worse, the chinese constructors left, no talk of train all through Ambode's stint, the new masterplan is gathering dust somewhere I still spend a day or two there every year to oversee construction work and get a feel of the area. New hotels springing up, more activities to attract slave trade tourists and historians Still in my plans but ilorin is also attractive- peaceful, less crime, close to airport and cheaper with no omonile headache |

LegendHer0: You are never going to regret going to USA for your masters under any circumstances.
I can see you’re going for mechanical engineering masters which qualifies you as a STEM student.
The partial funding you had is still good and I’m quite sure you can take up a teaching assistantship job over there to balance the rest of the fees. So no cause for alarm on how to complete your studies financially.
If you graduate with a STEM degree, you will apply for OPT and I’m pretty sure some companies e.g. like Cummins accept Mech Eng. international student on F-I OPT. These companies will then sponsor your H1B visa which will guarantee you more way here.
I’m pretty sure your starting Salary with an engineering masters will be more than you would ever get in Nigeria. I might be wrong tho! |
Education › Re: Did You Regret Going For Masters Abroad? by DisGuy: 10:33am On Dec 30, 2019 |
GogobiriLalas: It depends on your field of study; if you're going into any of the STEM fields then you MAY have an edge in the jobs market; for any other course, the advantage is mostly psychological; I have 3 masters degrees already from 3 of the world's top universities and I can tell you authoritatively that it hasn't done anything to boost my job's prospect.
If you're not going for STEM my advise is that you should spend your money setting up a business for yourself in Nigeria. Seriously? If you don't mind me asking what's your field? |
