budaatum:The protesters were counting on several things but June 12 (and it's significance) was a bad day to choose especially when you are considering the SouthEasterners who question why Abiola's presidential denial should be commemorated while the aftermath of the Civil War and the effect on the people are not acknowledged by the Nigerian State. There are tribal sentiments to it. Also, the ignition and spread of the protests were mostly hinged on analysts expecting the Nigerian security forces to assault and kïll protesters like they did during the Lekki Massacre. That was supposed to be the main spark and validation to cause mayhem. Surprisingly, the Nigerian security forces kept it professional. Nobody planned for that. No sporadic shooting and the likes. The IGP outsmarted the organisers and backers, this time. |
After the supposed solemnity of the last 36 hours, they've gone back to insulting needlessly. When countered and attacked with even more vitriolic responses, they either call on the moderators or play the victims' card, trying to gaslight. This thread was already beginning to seem sane and civil (the differing opinions regardless), and relatively mentally-stimulating until now. Now it's just paperweight insults and microaggression from people who can't even diss properly when it comes to it. |
Just don't try this kind of #IStandWithBuhari counter-protest in a city like Port Harcourt. Your white t-shirt would become crimson in minutes. Tie and dye. |
Well, the FG shouldn't employ more. Most ministries and civil servants are redundant. It should instead better the operative conditions of MSMEs with better and favourable policies. Complacency and jettisoning career goals are common amongst civil servants. There are some exceptions, of course. |
Tdotbluejays1:If you know Twitter well enough and understand social media marketing, you'd know anything can trend on Twitter even by spamming it. 25 people (each having 10,000 followers) sitted in a large hall tweeting a particular phrase and retweeting each other's tweets at 40 tweets per hour and retweets of that hashtag per person can force the hashtag to trend. Normally, digital marketers jump on a trend to promote their services/goods too so they unwittingly sustain the trend. I've seen these things. That's all I'd tell you. You can sustain the trend at the first 3 trends using that method for at least 6 hours by tweeting from the same Twitter location too. ![]() |
budaatum:You made a sweeping generalisation about the stance of Liberals on such issues, including cultural appropriation when you stated this is your previous reply to me: budaatum:Same thing as declaring "I am Nigerian. I believe Afang soup is the greatest soup man has ever made". To a non-Nigerian, what it means is, fhat's what all Nigerians believe about Afang soup. Completely different from, "I am DssT.roy. I believe afang soup..." |
budaatum:I can respect that. So, why then do blacks (the "Liberal" ones) for example, scream "cultural appropriation!" when Adele and Kim Kardashian braided their hair? Why then was there outrage when some White kids tried to make money off Yoruba trademark last month and Nigerians were yelling the boys had no right to appropriate the Yoruba culture as White boys even though the boys aren't portraying it negatively? They were accused of trying to recolonize blacks as White English boys. I thought it's anything goes. Black women can style and adorn Caucasian hairdos/wigs but a White woman braiding her hair is a culture cvulture? Double standards? |
obixcel:I know! I'm just driving home the point. I'm bewildered by his reply but it's curiously interesting too. ------------------------------ Budaatum, what you mean is, you have NO problem with seeing a Blair McIntire from Ireland with skin colour as white as #FFFFFF and a redhead play King Jaja of Opobo, a Southern Nigerian slave-turn-king whose colour would be 0's in 6 places if it were a colour gradient? A man who probably had the most Negroid of skin ever? |
budaatum:I understand it is illegal. I understand it helps. Remote tech guys are especially grateful for that as the only restrictions are sometimes insisting one has to be within specific timezones which is completely understandable. The problem is, you are still seeing it in 1's and 0's. It's the height of wokeness and revisionism to have a movie about King Henry VIII and you have Malik, a darkskinned boy from Senegal, play his bestfriend and confidant. It doesn't matter if Malik has perfected Medieval English. The truth is, King Henry had no black friend (well, none that was recorded) nor were they any in the Palace. That's a completely different scenario. You'd see movies about the Vikings of Scandinavia and somehow, two of the warriors have woolly hair and slit eyes. You take a keener look and there they are - Chinedu and Xiang. What are they doing in 12th Century Scandinavia again? I can tell you what - revisionist wokeness! |
budaatum:You missed the sarcasm implied by the helium-filled balloon adds but EnlightenedUFO got it. |
budaatum:And this is the problem with wokeness! The programming of seeing everything in 1's and 0's, in binary. ...Except when it has to do with gender where you can identify as a thousand things and be fluiid. If I have to recruit or place ads for actors for the remake of "Sango", fhe movie or stage play. It's set in Yoruba land, right? I need Yoruba-speaking actors who also, of course, double as blacks. So, I put up a post seeking black actors (and actresses) with good command of spoken Yoruba. But, no, I have to be woke so I'd leave the door open for Park Jing , a Taiwanese-German actor born and raised in Ireland to be recruited for the role of Sango too. See how rationality is jettisoned for wokeness/political correctness? You get it now? That's the problem. |
EnlightenedUFO:Alright. This was a good one. Why didn't I consider it before now? 20 by 20 feet banner tied to a thousand balloons filed with helium then left to float round the city. Good idea. This one you always cry that someone is forcing you but then go on to praise the capitalist society where you are free to choose is so ingenuine and fake outrage.Twitter doesn't do this though. It's just something I've noticed with Facebook. Probably we'd term in "Wokeness Pro Max" or something. Wait... Did you just admit you have something against capitalism? Ah! It makes sense now. |
EnlightenedUFO:The premise of the argument was - is(?) - people are being forced to identify with 'wokeness' and I stated that Facebook recruitment analogy to negate your claim that people aren't literally forced to do so. Of course, there are creative ways of bypassing that like adding a link after the job title and description which links to a website portal and there the gender specification can be stated. The question is, why force me to recruit both or, in woke terms, all genders in the first place? The bots have been programmed to do so, I know. But one wonders... |
budaatum:LOL. Impregnator? Say, for the sake of this response, I'm recruiting an all-boy band or a team of iron benders or something like that. That'd be all boys, right? Why can't I have the option of recruiting any specific gender for a particular role? I'm not Noah - I don't have to recruit them in twos everytime. |
EnlightenedUFO:Don't argue what you aren't certain of. If you put up a Facebook ad seeking only males for recruitment, Facebook would decline your job ad because it is "discriminatory" even though the job requires men only. Try putting up a Facebook ad now then return 20 minutes later to dispute what I've stated. People get forced to identify with wokeness. That's about the easiest example I could give you to confirm or negate. |
Got some hidden mentions. Local-searched to this subsection and they were from here. Whoever it is, I didn't see the content of the mentions. If it's relevant, you'd have to state what you wanted to again. |
baralatie:You really are insufferable if after the explanation backed by legal meanings, you are still on about traditional marriage. And you probably are a teenager if you don't know traditional marriage rites come in different forms, and the acknowledge of the families during the "opening of drinks" is paramount. Dude, when last did you relate with your relatives to learn things? |
baralatie:Except you want to argue for the sake of it, the OP clearly stated he had done marriage introduction with his friends and family members (except his parents). At these introductions, there's "breaking of kolanuts" and "uncorking of drinks'. Juxtaposed that with customary marriage. Next find out the legality of customary marriage and statutory marriage. Tonto Dike and Churchill had customary marriage but they were still referred to as man and wife. If they had to relocate together as a couple, they would have had to do statutory marriage. Still, I believe what is worth doing is worth doing well. |
baralatie:Marriages are in different forms, man. The parents or guardian acknowledging their union is valid enough. All they need do is walk into a registry to get a marriage certificate if they need to process documents. Never heard of customary law? Promising to marry a woman is a good as being engaged to her. Even the Lagos State Government has begun prosecuting men who engage and dump women without just cause. I don't care how long I've been in a relationship with a female, the moment I discover she's knowingly dated/slept with married men, everything begins to die and would never lead to the alter. If I discover when already married, I'd resent her. By subtle means I've always made this obvious to the women in my life. I also won't be with one who's had to abort for no reason other than medical complications. I've never made any woman abort so I don't deserve to be with any. Just like I've never gotten sexually intimate with a married woman even though I get accosted online and in person daily. ![]() And, no I'm barely religious too so these aren't religious reasons but my principles. |
frozen70:Not everyone wants to be with a woman who has a very promiscuous past, or didn't respect the institution of marriage enough not to date married men. A woman who doesn't respect it enough to draw that line has no qualms cheating when married. Most of the married woman cheating slept with married men as singles. The have a warped way of justifying the adultery. Stop gaslighting men into accepting and dating/marrying damaged women. You wouldn't be with a damaged man yourself if you have better options. |
Continuous professional development. Take courses. You can learn how to write CVs the modern way online. You can learn within months how to prepare any kind of document with legal backing from resources on the internet. You should be able to prepare MOUs, deeds and any such document. There are affordable product management course online or programmes to effectively manage teams. If you are tech-inclined, of course the opportunities are endless to learn and become a professional. The best skill you'd learn is never to be complacent and always self-improve. |
GhostWisperer:2016/2017. You still remember this? I'm not here for the debates though, black Africans wasting their time on foreign politics when their own country needs their attention is something else entirely.Oddly, it's an interconnected world. I argue with - no, debate with - foreigners on world socio-politics and global issues even more on Facebook and Twitter. The world is more interconnected than ever and the supposed internal politics of the U.S. eventually shape in no small way its foreign policy which is felt round the world. If Trump (or some other person) were POTUS around the time of the 2015 Nigerian Presidential Election, we can't truly say things wouldn't have turned out differently. We can't truly say Obama and Putin's beef didn't have an effect on Syria's fate. We can't truly say if anyone other than Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State, Benghazi wouldn't have been better managed and weapons wouldn't have drifted down south into Northern Nigeria, bolstering Boko Haram. When the U.S. sneezes, the world should be worried. So we all have to keep tabs on it and on the major players around the world. I don't care or know jack about Danish politics, but I delve as much as I can into Russia or China. U.S. residents debate Russian, Israeli and Australian politics all the time, including those who have never even been in these countries or even understand the languages/accents. But on the other platforms I mentioned, it's more rational. Well, since there are hundreds quoting you, you choose the several tens who are more rational (across political divide) to respond to. I've even gone on to interact with several on other issues outside of socio-politics. Here the diversity of opinions is mostly binary, but there's seeming unity in the resolve to outdo the other with hate. The good thing is, I have the digital resources to arm myself with tools to counter and dismantle any hate missile, then go on the offensive so I'm good. |
benalvino2:Sadly, a lot of people on this thread and beyond it are deeply emotionally invested in this - the back-and-forths. And if you are discerning enough, you can tell the emotional comments. The recounted tales which they tell to justify their hate. I know web developers who have been turned down for remote work by one or two Democrats because they tweeted something in support of Trump or the Right - it's standard practise to submit your CV, which includes linls to your social media accounts and portfolio. I know folks who attack John Legend and trash his music because he's pro-Left. I know folks on Twitter who have done nothing but shame, refuse to stream music videos of and bully Lil Wayne ever since he spoke in support of Trump, and, worse even, eventually got a Presidential Pardon from him. The people who attack Lil Wayne's legacy the most these days are blacks who would rather have seen him rot in jail or be tagged a felon all his life than get a fresh start just because it came from Trump. There are blacks who attack Trump and refuse to praise him when he helped get A$AP Rocky and the other black woman out of jail. They refused talking about it and slam him as a pest or doing it for photo op. All of those and worse are seen on this thread. And, with the level of hatred I see peddled here, I have little doubt that if there was a chance to blackmail some persons for a crime they didn't commit, some persons here would do it. It's why I cautioned Obixël last week not to try to release more personal details about himself. I have no doubt that one of the persons here would try to get him sacked. That's the level of hatred here. It's seeped into every argument and exchange. |
benalvino2:I already mentioned this place is an echo box. The back-and-forths are really about trying to humiliate the other person if you can and defending yourself not to be humiliated. It's about blind, seething hatred based on nothing but different political ideologies. On Twitter, it's not even this vile. People with opposing political ideologies agree to disagree. It's not even about the insults. It's common knowledge that I can take insults in stride and inject my antagoniser(s) with vitriolic venom of a gazillion times those they shoot at me and would stand tall at the 'crime scene', daring the mods to do their worst. No, it's not about the insults. The insults are amusing at best and I wouldn't fail to take you to your Mental Hades if you direct insults at me, even a thousand years from now. It's the hate which transcends the arguments to real life. It's about the fact that one party would refuse to admit the other party made a valid point because they think doing so makes them lose. It's why one party would think Biden should be crucified for the state of the economy in just 3 months of resuming office while the other party thinks and asserts vehemently that, of the 4 years Trump was in office, not even one - a single one - of his administration's policies were good. Not even the Covid-19 payments made to households. Not even one. This place/thread is an echo box. I thought it made sense so I was very active on it towards the end of last year but when I truly saw it for what it truly is, I occasionally pop in or make a few comments. Interestingly, both parties make points but do not want to learn. Or think admitting ANY seeming good in the other is a betrayal of their political stances. Same thing applies in Nigerian politics; Regardless of what the APC or PDP does, it's evil or good only if it's from the party one identifies with or hate. It's why most of you here have declared you'd never work with or do a favour for a Republican. Not because she or he doesn't merit the position but because your political ideology dictates she or he must be your sworn enemy. Even the EuroSoccer Subsection is more dynamic. People agree and disagree about Chelsea, Man. United or the players' performances, and their opinions vary with the performance of these players or outfits per game or over time. So why can't you admit one good thing about the other political party or its candidate? It's because you have been conditioned to hate and be vile. And that seething hatred and bigotry makes you no better than the racist, homophobic and xenophobic people you lampoon daily. |
iamSirPhil:If you already have basic graphics design or web design skills, it's easier to transit to UI/UX. There are resources on YouTube to begin with (I prefer visual practical guides as against just text). There aren't many people doing UI/UX around but if you learn the basic or intermediate graphics design (which more people are into), you can self-teach yourself to become a UI/UX designer with resources on the internet. ![]() |
Ovaltine: LOL.I can't help but see their posts 'cause the Twitter Topics I follow and people I mostly interact with on Twitter are in the (digital) tech space and Founders/Venture Capital circle. I use some of their tips though. They do the 'research' by crowdsourcing tips and help tools all over the internet while I get them by simply logging in. I think they should specifically call themselves "tech bloggers" instead of professionals to avoid the confusion. Something like biology teachers and actual health workers. The only way of being a digital tech person is by actually doing it, not advising others to do it. Your work should speak more. |
benalvino2:Twitter didn't even do one-hundredth of what it did to the Trump administration in Buhari's case. Instead, Twitter has been relatively impartial in the Nigerian Twitter space. No U.S. official would have gotten away with the vile things posted by Garba Shehu, Femi Adeshina or El Rufai for so long. Those tweets got thousands of reports but Twitter did nothing about them. In fact, Twitter is the reason people even notice mád men like Garba Shehu. How then has Twitter been supposedly meddling in Nigerian politics? The platform gave partisan and 'neutral' folks in the Nigerian socio-polity a fare chance. If Twitter were as pointedly biased against the Buhari administration, his account should have been taken down during the #EndSARS protests. He threatened the citizenry then. But a thinly-veiled threat of genocide was one tweet too extreme. I don't even have to be Igbo to realize this. At that point, it was no longer APC against PDP or vice versa. Has Twitter shown bias in many cases? Yes! I could cite a thousand examples. Has Twitter refused to ban or punish people who have tweeted more vile things than Buhari? Yes! I could also cite another thousand examples. But did Twitter get this one act of deleting Buhari's tweet right? There might be gray areas and a lot of maybes, yet we can't still say "No, it didn't". That is the point. |
benalvino2:MSMEs in Nigeria make up about 96 percent of businesses in the country alone and account for about 50 percent of the GDP. More than a third of those business depend on social media to thrive and economic reasons are good enough reasons for not effecting a ban but instead go for some sort of regulation. Buhari's ascent to the presidency was due to the same Twitter. While Twitter has shown bias in most cases, it doesn't mean that Buhari's tweet should have been up. It was a hate speech. It's completely different from Twitter banning Trump outrightly but some of Trump's tweets should have been deleted. If Buhari had been banned or his tweets always labeled as 'fake news' like Twitter was doing to Trump, that would have been a different case and the response should have been suing Twitter for infringement of freedom of speech, and cyberbullying even. It's a lawsuit Buhari could have won. Banning Twitter was an overkill. |
While I agree Big Tech is meddlesome, banning a whole country from using a social media platform is an overkill. Yes, certain regulations should be implemented and we need to specifically define what Hate Speech constitutes. Currently, if I say Transgender women aren't women, according to Facebook policy, it's hate speech against a gender orientation which is Big Tech trying to force 'queerhood' on me. Still, banning Twitter is an overkill. India's response is because it is because the government is being increasingly called out. Political activists are being hunted and have to turn to Twitter to raise awareness. India's policies on political and social freedoms shouldn't be one Nigeria or any self-respecting country should try to emulate. |
GalaticHorde:Don't push this as you'd further make a mockery of yourself. When having lexical battles, be certain of everything you state as anything can be used against you. The sun does shine at midnight in some parts of the world. Probably isn't common knowledge but it's just a reminder that everything you state or assert would be analysed and held to the microscope of truth. You can go ahead with your back-and-forth now. Be more careful though. Be rational when battling and never let your emotions decide the words you spell out. You'd be flawed and floored when you do. ![]() |
GalaticHorde:Erm, maybe I'm playing the devil's advocate here but the sun does shine at midnight if you are in the Northern Hemisphere. So, technically, that renders your statement... Well, you know the rest. |
