@ dittobaby I have some questions.
Did the VO ask you at the interview if you were pregnant?
If yes what was your response?
You need to prove to the VO you didn't tell a lie at your interview.
I was also called for an interview when I did the drop box renewal in 2015 and in my case I told a lie and already knew what was coming. Told the VO after asking me why I said I wasn't pregnant at the interview that I didn't know about the pregnancy until after the interview (about 8weeks )and I had some complications and decided to seek medical attention in the US . After every question, told her my receipt was with me and I paid all my bills.
Also kept on telling her how much I paid. After enough questions she told me she would issue me the Visa.
You already know the most likely questions (prepare yourself and decide what to say). It's okay to be anxious but don't let the VO think you have anything to hide.
If you weren't asked any question or you indicated you were pregnant then just have all your prove of payments with you.
Most importantly pray hard. I wish you God's favor

No, I wasn't asked if I was pregnant. The VO asked where in the US and I said Orlando, Florida but I ended up going to Houston.
Thanks so much for the tips. I have just a few hours left !

Hi, everyone. I have interview tomorrow morning for my visa renewal and I'll like to know if there is any new info I need to have at hand. I know this request is quite late but any useful info would be highly appreciated.
My background story is that during my last interview I told the VO that I was going for vacation but I later got a change of intent letter cas I decided to go for birthing. After two months, I went back to the embassy to get visa for my then 2 yr old son and that was when I told the VO that I was travelling to give birth and that I would like to go with my son since he was too young for me to leave behind.
Recently I applied for renewal through Dropbox but I was asked to come for a face to face interview tomorrow morning.
Please is there any new information I need to know cas I've been out of touch from this thread? I don't want to be taken by unpleasant surprise.
Thank you.

Hi, everyone,
Need your advice. I would like my son to attend a private secondary boarding school in Cornwall, Ontario. Can I apply for a student visa for him? Are student visas issued to minors? If they do not, what else can I do to make this happen?

If you are a student, you can apply for a student visa. If a child is going as a student, his parent cannot get a visa just to come take care of them. This is very straightforward.

Okay. Thanks for your response. It was very helpful.

You could apply for a student visa for the non-US citizen child, but there wouldn't be a mechanism for you to live in the US and care for them. You are no longer a tourist when you spend most of your year in the country. The US citizen child doesn't require a visa.

'no mechanism undecided Is this deliberate, a loophole or an omission?
Then will I be allowed to also come in as a student doing a masters and then a Phd degree?
Note that I'll be spending a lot of money paying for tuition fees, accommodation and living expenses.

Hello. A good day to you, visa officer. My questions are:
1. Can I apply for student visas for my kids to attend a private day secondary school in the US? One of them is a US citizen.
2. What type of visa would I apply for myself to accompany and care for them there. We would be coming back home for holidays at the end of each term.

Yet to get my trv tho but just wanna have concrete plans on ground.
Do you have any idea of maternity accommodation in Canada....Ontario as I'm considering not staying with my host based on ideas I've gotten on USA birth and some insults that comes with it. So I may eventually come to Ontario but accommodation is yet to be convincing

Also, are there appartment hotels or extended stays? Which are the affordable ones please?

Arrived Yankee yesterday night. POE at New York was extraordinary. Wasn't asked a single question! Sounds weird right? Didn't even know I had passed through POE Until I was wheeled to the baggage pick up. Was stamped in for 6 mths. Will give fullest gist later when I settle in Houston.

If you intend coming with your GTbank card, when you arrive US, open a U.S. Bank account, I would recommend Bank of America or anyone closer to you. You can go to either Walmart or Kroger if they have western union, I know Walgreens usually have western union stand too, request for a money order (maximum is $1000) they would charge 79cent per money order which is not upto 100 naira as against the N400 charges with ATM per withdrawal. Then you an take to your bank and deposit it or exchange for cash.

You can as well visit Fidelity bank for BTA, they have very good exchange rate. You can visit any branch closer to you.

Is it a Naira or a Dollar account.
Personally I withdraw using atm. I don't know the GTB exchange rate right now, but access is doing 208 to $1. Nigeria is making it more difficult to transfer from Nigeria, except you have dollars in a Domiciliary account. If you have a good rapport with your account officer, you can send instructions via email to move funds to your US account. Swift and Bank Charges will apply.

Now I get it. If I withdraw my money to get Dollars in the American ATM, then it will not be affected by any sudden rise in the dollar-naira exchange rate. So it means the American account is just for safe keeping of my dollars. Right? And please what is the maximum ATM withdrawal one can make per day in the US.

Yes I had my toddler on my laps and my hand luggage in between my legs resting on the foot pedal of the wheel chair. Yes the porter waits for you to finish everything including luggage claim, and till u catch your ride. Just prepare your tip for the porter. And yes, he will be the only one attending to u. You can't get two porters.

So how did you transfer your checked in luggage from luggage claim to your car.

@Newmum2015 and other mums thinking about shipping stuffs from the US. Here is my experience and advice.

1. Think well before shipping baby cribs because the chance of your baby using it is 50/50. My boy insists on staying beside the mum on the bed. At this rate I can sell you the Graco we bought , because we have never used it..grin

2. Be careful with electronic products from the US. The Avent sterilizer I bought packed up within a month. We had to buy another system. The TV we shipped is yet to pack up but The expensive stepdown we bought to safeguard all of them is already burnt.

3. Baby liquid soap and other heavy liquids can be bought locally, its not worth the extra shipping cost. We paid Delta extra $200 and it was money wrongly spent.

Important things to ship

1. Baby foods. Similac, gerber and enfamil are very expensive in Nija. You can ship what your baby will eat for the first 6 months or 1 year if possible.

2. Baby clothes and wears can also be bought. Buy more of age 3 months and above. 0 to 3 months become useless quickly. He also got lots of that as gift.

In summary, you can source good products locally, its not all items that is worth shipping. Congrats for all the successful visas and POE stories. One love.

Tvegas, Tvegas. I envy your wife o. You did all the birthing logistics and you've participated and still participating actively on this thread, You've been a very good consultant to many mums here giving advice on almost any topic. Now from this post you have really impressed me cas it's obvious you are helping your wife with nursing the baby. You even know the names of different baby foods, Avent sterilizer, baby liquid soap, etc. Na wa o!

My husby doesn't know jack about anything baby except of course on how to make them. He was always precise on my ovulation date as if he receives inspiration. This American project is entirely mine and all he's doing is coming to join us towards our departure to bring 'his' baby back to Nija. Well, I still love him to death. He is actually good in so many other things. Kudus to you anyway, I'm not just used to a man being so motherly. Or are you transgender? wink grin

My question is for those who have traveled with a toddler and used wheelchair. Were you allowed to carry your toddler on your lap while you were being pushed? At your destination in US, did another porter push your luggage while were you were still being pushed on your wheelchair?

Haven't gotten any solid answer to my questions yet.

In my last trip to London the porter, at Heathrow airport, who pushed my wheelchair was very upset when I put my almost 2yrs old son on my lap so that my husby could comfortably push the luggage. I tried pleading with him but he explained that if he allows me and my son falls off he could lose his job. Since then I have been wandering what if I had traveled alone with my son.

In the next few weeks, God willing, I will be traveling with my son and my mum. My mum will also be on a wheelchair because of the arthritis on her leg. So who would carry my son and push the trolley?

To be on the safe side, I think I'll just book for a wheelchair for my son and hope that another porter would handle the luggage.
Hmm what a sight we would be! shocked grin

Still expecting other suggestions, though.

Amazon ships for free if you're buying anything above $35(so they said, they might have hidden charges tho).I won't mind shipping by sea if I get too.

Ask that same shipping agent you called. They should be doing both air and sea. Whichever shipping agent you eventually use ensure it's a referral.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions.I called a particular shipping agent and he said its $4:50 per pound. The crib I'm considering is 125 pounds alone(without the baby walker and others in it).I think that's too expensive for me.Called their customer service line at Amazon and the guy told me that once the order gets accepted then I would definitely get it.They also have an option of waiting till all your orders are ready before they ship or they ship individually as its ready. Im just skeptical cos I haven't heard anyone send that much stuff to Abuja from Amazon.

Is Amazon shipping rate cheaper? I think it's safer to use a shipping company o. Since your goods are heavy, why don't you have patience and opt for shipping by sea. The rate should be more affordable.

The shipper I use is in Houston. I send from Amazon to their address and they bring nationwide to Nigeria. They charge $4 to a pound of weight for Lagos residents and $4.40 for the rest of naija.
Send a pm if interested.

Are you saying you don't see what Amazon has sent to you before your shipper ships it to Nigeria? Or are you talking of when you are in Nigeria?

From my experience with Amazon, they don't send all what you buy in one package. Your items are sent to you on different days probably because of the items coming from different sellers. How does one handle this when using a shipper and you would want to get all your things in one package?
