WombRaiders: My oh my! People have been mis informed into thinking Islam was propagated by war. Do you know why Islam was able to spread so quickly among the places like Spain and others? Ok let me start with the words of Prof Hodgson. Professor Hodgson of the University of Chicago explained the reasons for the popularity of Islam as follows: "Muslims made a personal appeal to people's religious consciousness. On the level of straight argument, they often put forward the populistic intelligibility of Islam. Muslims commonly ridiculed, in the name of intellectual good sense, the more mythically convoluted teachings of older traditions. This could seem attractively straightforward to people dissatisfied with taking things on faith from a learned priest whose mysteries they could not comprehend. A single Creator, to be worshipped by each person for himself, on the basis of revelation that had been given to a famous prophet whom millions already acknolwedged. This was at once intelligible and plausible." The Islamic world then also dominated in people of the areas of science. mathematics, agriculture, astronomy, commerce and philosophy. As at that time everybody wanted to learn from the Arabs and Muslims (Just like it is with US and China today). Even Scientists like Newton, Fibonacci, Descartes and many others developed their works from earlier Islamic works. Medical sciences were also highly developed in Islam as testified by even the Crusaders themselves, who relied on Arab doctors on numerous occasions. Even Joinville ( Jean de Joinville was one of the great chroniclers of medieval France) reports he was saved in 1250 by a “Saracen” (muslim) doctor. "Intellectualism"(Dunno if d word exists. LOL), simplicity, rationalism were among the reasons Islam was able to spread so fast. Islam was NOT spread by war as it is widely acclaimed. Even people of our time attest to it. Ambassador Herman Ellis, in a testimony in front of the committee on Foreign Affirs of the House of Represntatives of the United States Congress on June 24th, 1985, said, "The Muslim community of the globe today is in the neighbourhood of one billion. That is an impressive figure. But what to me is equally impressive is that Islam today is the fastest growing monotheistic religion. This is something we have to take into account. Something is right about Islam. It is attracting a good many people." The Quran itself says is it chapter 2 verse 256 "There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion........" As to why the Arab world is site to many christian sites? Good question. That is the more reason why you agree with me that there has to be a link between all of them and what they preached. Moses, Abraham, Jesus and Muhammad. They all believed in One God, upholding truth and abolishing falsehood. |

Koolmexxi: Hmmmm i like your use of the word "racial" Have you read of the crusades of the early missionaries? Read history books and you would get a stint of what i am talking about. Do you know that In 1095, Pope Urban II made a speech to launch the blood-letting of The Crusades. How about the capture of Jerusalem in 1099? the Christian army butchered almost every man, woman and little child in the city. Do you also know of the second crusade and the famous speech of St. Bernard of Clairvaux. He said when launching the Second Crusade: "The Christian glories in the death of a pagan, because thereby Christ himself is glorified." Do you know of the genocide of the Cathars (1209–1229)? The Pope Innocent III called for a crusade to exterminate the Cathar people of France (the Albigensians) Men, women and children were also butchered. DON'T GET ME WRONG. I DO NOT AND WILL NEVER SUPPORT KILLING OF INNOCENT SOULS. My point is just as you have extremists in Islam, you have them in other places too. I WOULD NEVER because of these above people and many others who i did not mention call Christianity a violent religion so i don't expect a double standard when talking about Islam. |

Coldfeet: This your second paragraph is not encouraging o. Assuming i am a pagan in a remote village who just stumbled upon the Bible. I don't know anything about Christianity not to even talk of ever hearing of the Holy Spirit before. So how do i really get to learn about Christianity? Does that mean no hope for me? 4 Likes |

check out There you would see a section for student jobs on the left hand side under the search box. You can have a look maybe you would get something that may interest you there. If you are using your phone to open the page, change it to desktop version view. If you don't you would not see the various sections and the student job section like i described above. Best of luck! |

Good day everyone. I have been following this thread
for a while and i believe i would be able to get the
best advice here. Please my friend and i are looking
for internship slots. WE ARE REALLY AFTER THE
EXPERIENCE AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN FROM
PROFESSIONAL HANDS AND DO NOT MIND AN
UNPAID INTERNSHIP. I am a geologist and he is an
engineer. While i am in search of a mudlogger position
he is in search of a roustabout position.
Having attended seminars and workshops, my friend
and i are very familiar with rig operations and are fast
learners as well. I strongly believe catching up would
not be an issue.
Please we need advice on companies we can approach
that READILY take interns. Any link to any of these
companies would be much appreciated as well.
Thank you. cc beryour, icool, ugsams, justsmile |
