Gideon Okar's aborted coup did not succeed against IBB, but people in the said that coup changed the face of the Nigerian military till date.

Prior to that coup attempt, people from other parts of the country were treated like slaves in military.

Commands began to be held in Hausa.

No non-Hausa held any responsible position.

But after that attempted coup, the Hausas realized the deep resentment that had been built up against them.

The youths have just staged an attempted coup and I believe those in power have gotten the message.

From now on they will be more sensitive with their utterances and actions.

Anyone takes this country for granted again, we set it ablaze and disintegrate if that's what it would be.

That is how you fight (at least in this kind of situation)

Now, your opponent knows that you cannot be taken for a ride. He is more careful, circumspect and afraid even!

The government is afraid! Believe it or not, it is, hence resorting to dirty tactics like infiltrating the ranks of the movement with never-do-well-supposed-to-be-aborted individuals in the bid to discredit and ultimately kill the movement.

The movement can only counteract this move by restrategising. Pushing on will only get more innocents killed as these shitheads (paid and unpaid hoodlums) will persist in wanton destruction until they themselves are consumed in the flames of a fully blown anarchy (that's how foolish they are).

Weed these element out of the ranks of the movement. Take the wind from their sails and the ammunition from their firepower by not giving them a "face" and a "podium" from which to launch an attack- that Face and the Podium is the continued protest never minding how peaceful it was or is intended to be.

It's time to talk.

If I may ask good Sir, what are the demands (post SARS that is)? What is the movement clamouring for? Has it been itemised? Has a quorum being set up to speak for the movement? Has there been any interface between the movement and the powers that be? Is there any semblance of organisation from the different factions that can come together to craft a "demand" and speak "intelligently" with one voice? Is there....?

Even the French Revolution in all its blood-letting frenzy was composed of groups with "leaders" and a "vision" however myopic or distorted they may have been then. And amongst themselves, they clashed ideal-wise and had different views of governance, but, what kept the movement together was the existence of leadership and a well understood manifesto-two things glaringly lacking in the movement of today.

Know what you want. Know how to get it. Work out the SOP. Engage. Evaluate. Re-engage if need be until the war (note, not the battle) is won.

The angst currently displayed by the movement (and rightly so given years of privation and oppression by the political class) should be well honed and strategically directed. All these looting and burning will only cause wailing and gnashing of teeth without any "tangible" achievement being achieved. You've let "stealers of sleep" into your ranks (sponsored or not, the opportunity came via the protest) and soon you'll fall out of favour and goodwill bestowed upon the movement by the larger society...the woman selling Akara for sustenance can't do it anymore (you'll feed her you say, but, for how long? You're fighting for her you say, but in her "noble" mind, she's wondering how the killing and looting and burnings will bring about her selling more Akara). Just like every regime that oust the former via bloodshed, it becomes worse that what it said it was fighting in the first instance.

It is time to talk.

Does it make it any less "violent"...it's not a function of who or what is responsible for the killing and mayhem but about how to stem it.

These hoodlums can operate because of the protest. Take away the canopy of "protesters" and they'll be exposed for what they truly are; despicable and vile human beings.

It is enough already.
