No time did I say I save for JORDANS. I have enough money to buy any Jordans if I choose. That didn't happen overnight. It happened because I have worked continuously for some time,

Bros if life is as easy as you put it I happy for you. The only people wey no dey complain for this country na pastors. Every other person I know citizen or immigrant complains on a daily basis.

Watch the news and see people complaining, I rest my case.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part2 by djunit1(m): 7:13pm On Feb 05, 2012
Seriously, to see someone like David saying life is as easy as he is putting it is ludicrous,

I have always said and will continue to say, if yiou have family here to guide and provide for you, things would be a piece of cake.

If you do not have people like me,  who came here with no one to pick me from the airport, be ready for the worse,

David also said food for 7 people is $150, I will argue this till eternity that is impossible! He also said you do not pay social security as an international student, that is not also true because I have my paystub right in front of me.

He also said transportation is 30 bucks, that I can say is not very true because it depends on the city you are.

Mr Know it all (imprexious), said 3bedroom is 600,  He forgot to mention that you have forms to fill to state your housing situation for the past 2 years. He also forgot to say how they check your credit to see if you qualify to rent. He also forgot to mention that you have to sign a lease. He also did not mention how you have to meet a certain percentage of income.

People when I say things here I dont say it because I am thinking of other people, I say things based on my experience,

Do Americans buy shoes worth 80 bucks monthlyhuh? BIG yes, most of my colleagues at work are working just to buy the new JORDANS that have not been released.

How you live your life is your choice but that part where one says food cost 150 bucks for 7 people is a big lie!!!!!
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part2 by djunit1(m): 4:51am On Feb 05, 2012
@David

Food 80 Bucks a month?? Rent 450 for a studiohuh Y'all must be living in a small town!!! A studio in NYC would cost an average of 650 monthly,  MTA monthly unlimited is 115!!!!! Food would cost at least 150 ( I spend more than that ) Not because i eat a lot but because most times I am not able to cook,  And I have worked and still work as a student and when I get my pay stub weekly social security deductions dey there steady. As for clothes, you may think you dont need them, but you do. That 150 will only buy 2 good shoes,  Everything I listed up there are not just things I made up. They are reduced amounts of what I usually end up spending in a month.

You talked about a car, you forgot to add insurance to it, you also need to recalculate gas cos gas goes for over 4 bucks a galon in NYC,  And dont forget you need a bulk amount of about 1k at least to buy a car and that car will not be in a very good shape.

Bros, you may live in a small town where things are cheap, not every body lives in a small town. If someone came here and told me they spend 3k a month for things I have no reason to argue because I know people who spend as much as that.

Things I listed up there are necessities, I dont see where I listed something that is not a necessity,  You said $1,800 is enough a month, my list was not even close to 18 hundred and I got attacked. Na everybody get him mouth and hand to type and say anything they feel like. I will try my very best to avoid people who are here for arguments.

@djunit1,

The general statistics part of your statement were all Pure Bullshiit. Does living expenses and school fee same from state to state that one can't survive with GA? I got my GA position right from Nigeria since last year June and I have already knew how the allowance will go since then. Out of the allowance, 70% goes for dorms of which food plan is included, 30% goes for my school fee, though this doesn't completely solve my school fee because I have few of it to pay, I don't need ride to class because I only need to walk less than 3 mins to class. Therefore, getting GA in affordable schools and states can solve most school fee problems. I just walked to the student account office and told them I want my allowance going towards my tuition and I was told I'm good and clearance was placed on my student ID card. So ask me, if I have paid all my school fee. ADEBYTE, explanation is proven right in this country. This is US, many Americans don't buy cloths for fashion like in Nigeria, most times they get cloths good enough to shield the cold wind. Ask most of them to remove those jackets/hoodies, all you see is T-Shirt not even polo shirt, how much is T-Shirts in Nigeria?
I am not going to argue with you,  I am just gonna let it pass,  I know people whose father take care of all their fees and they have jobs and are still complaining about just rent they have to pay and here you are talking,  I didn't know anything when I just got here like you,  I had all the money to spend and could do anything I wanted. It was just a matter of time for me to get used to how things work here,

I will not talk now, I will wait until you start complaining before I remind you of the bullshit you say I am talking,

You want to pay your fees with a 20hr job!!!! How funny because even citizens graduate and owe thousands in Students' loans not because they didn't work while in school but because education is so expensive in this country. I will continue to pray for you Mr know it all

@helen2012

Thanks for ur enquiry. To cut the whole story short, I will advise if possible to allow ur son/daughter continue at the university considering the fact that admission into another university is not easily processed as envisaged by u.it takes a great deal of time and may
Have to go through the same procedure before she got the one for the present university. Also bearing in mind that she is on 40 percent scholaship, for her not to forfeit that rare priveledge.I think that u should be able to call the school and explain ur stance on the issue of accommodation that u already arrange accommodation for ur son/ daughter
Elsewhere because that was not in their plan before. Also if they insist that he/she has to compulsorily stay in the campus accommodation(which I think they can not), ur son/daughter would not be expected to pay all the money at once and so he/she can agree on either monthly, quarterly or halfly payment.
While studying,he/she is allowed to take up paid employment and can sort the payment out as he/she desires.
Hope this help and the lord is ur strength
Every time I see these kinds of talk i shake my head,  The only way she would be able to pay for accommodation with her earnings is if she works full time. If Not that is almost impossible,  I will try to break it down a little,

Assuming she gets a very good job on campus that pays $12/hour ( this is very rare ) she works for 18 hours weekly which is very rare again, that brings total to $216,  When you take out taxes, social security, you would be left with about $170(estimate) $170 weekly multiplied by 4 weeks in a month comes to $680 (I am really on the high side here but lets continue)

As a student, you need bus fair, in metro cities those are kind of expensive (ranges from $60-$115 monthly),  As a teenager you need clothes, which I would put at 150 bucks monthly (people I know spend triple that on clothes) Clothes and Transportation already took $200 from his/her total earnings. That brings the balance to $480. When you calculate other little expenses then you would probably be left with 300 bucks monthly which I doubt very much.

I decided not to talk about food, books, and petty things you need. Things like lotion, laundry supplies and all. I assume that the people from Naija would take care of these which in my opinion is very hard too.

If the school accommodation amounts to 5k for the semester how long will it take for her to pay?

People just believe that when you get to school work is waiting for you,  This is not how it works. When you get to school it may take you a whole month to get settled and to understand city transportation system. I am not saying it will take everyone a month, I am saying it may take some people less and some even more.

Job is not guaranteed for any body,  I see graduates with Masters' degree who do not have jobs. Take that belief of getting a job when you get to school out of your head because it does not always turn out like that.

If you need to argue with the school to secure your sister a free accommodation outside do it, because when one has free accommodation that is a lot of relief to you and her. They can not make her stay in the school if they didn't make it known to you before now

GLORY BE TO GOD,

I HAVE BEEN GRANTED MY STUDENT VISA ON THURSDAY 12TH AND THE FUNIEST THING IS THE DEADLINE DATE ON MY I-20 IS 13TH WHICH IS FRIDAY, AND MY SCHOOL TOLD ME THAT I WILL HAVE TO WAIT TILL APRIL BEFORE COMING COS I CAN NO LONGER BE ENROLLED BUT I NEED ADVICE,COS I HAVE GOTTEN MY TICKET TO LEAVE FRIDAY AND I NEED TO KNOW IF I WILL BE ALLOWED IN WHEN I GET TO US AT THE PORT OF ENTRY, ALSO DO I NEED TO HAVE MONEY WITH ME, I GOT PLACES TO STAY THO.
Immigration will let you in but if you are not enrolled within 15 days I think, your school would have to report to immigration that you are not enrolled for Spring. If you decide to start by fall you may have to re-instate your F-1 status to get registered which is not much of a deal (can be a big deal) as it is not guaranteed. Immigration can deny your reinstatement and you would be told to leave the country.

My advice, wait till you are ready to be registered before you go to the US

@ spare,
I'm sure you can go to the embassy without statement if it's because of the strike. My interview at the US embassy Abj was during the period when Union bank staff were on strike and a lady was at the embassy that day, she was asked for her statement she explained that Union was on strike (I can't remember if she also had a newspaper evidence). The VO said they knew and that she could go ahead with her interview and honestly she got her visa. So, personally I feel it's to your advantage.

About the statement
Under the Nigerian law no bank is allowed to release a customer's balance to a third party except Nigerian regulatory authorities like the EFCC, CBN, NDIC and SEC. The best they could do is to confirm that the person in question has an account with the bank. However, because of all the marketing craziness in the Nigerian banking industry about 2 or so banks cooperate with some of these embassies (US embassy not included as at 2010) and they unofficially get the balance info in an untraceable manner that no one can track. That was why embassies like UK and Canada in particular could verify some of these infos. With this in view, even if you use the wrong docs you can never be arrested as there is no existing bilateral agreement in respect of this (bank account info) with any country or embassy. So do not hesitate to go and pick either your passport or 'visaed passport' when called.
Thank you for letting us know our Govt still values privacy!!!! There is nothing of such in the country called the US and it pains them when they cant get the info they want!!!!!

Like that post of 2010 stated, I wanted that result so as to correct the mistake WAEC made on my result, You have no point with saying i was gonna go to the embassy with a fake result because my result will get me admission in any Uni, How long did it take you to locate my post of 2010? That is almost 2 years ago and you still had the time to go through all my post to get it out? You have time guy!!!! If you no longer go to school can you not use your time wisely to earn some $$$$?

I seriously see no reason in going 2 years prior to copy one of my posts here, That said, How are you wherever you are?

justwise:
What in the name of God are you talking about? Which info? You have given the embassy all the info about you, you have completed the visa application form and signed it declaring that all the info you provided to them are genuine, you have given them your bank statement, all they are doing is to call your bank to verify  the info you have given them already willingly. So the issue of having access to the amount you have in your account doesn't hold water anymore because its in the bank statement you submitted.

All the embassy is doing is to verify those info you claimed to be genuine and your bank can only confirm it to be true or false.

The embassy is not  calling your local bank or the agent who doctored the 'oluwole' bank statement, they are calling the head office to verify.
This makes perfect sense,  If during the application process there is a place you sign that gives the embassy authority to get all your info from your bank. I dont remember ever coming across anything like that during my process though. Thanks for the coaching,

Arroy

You see how people teach other people stuff? You have ideas but you believe the way to tell people is forcing them to agree with everything you say. If you had stated this I would have no reason to disagree wichu. Maybe you didn't know  grin grin grin grin

No time did I ever say I was going to the embassy with FAKE WAEC result. I said my original result looked fake because most of the grades had erased and asked if it would be ok to just just go with a print out of my result with a scratch card to Verify? My WAEC result is perfect and would get admission to any school so why would I go to the embassy with a FAKE result? Dont draw conclusions because you think you know it all,

I am still kicking even though this country is getting worse by the day

I say again Embassies have no access to your info except it is acquired fraudulently!!!! Laws in Nigeria are different from laws in the US in the sense that Nigerian Govt supports privacy but that is not the case in the US!!!! Govt wants access to your toilet!!!!! If embassies had access to all info I bet 80% of the people who get UK visas would be refused because they scrutinize these applications and still fail to detect fraud

I am not here to argue with you.

Common sense tells us that the US embassy in Nigeria is nothing but a business and it is operated as such. I dont see how they are different from MTN or Globacom

Nigerian embassy in the US can not call my bank to know how much I have because my business is not theirs.

shdnky if they call you to come for your Visa, my advice is go get it. Worse case scenario, they give your passport back to you without a Visa. During my interview, the guy who came with fake WAEC result was not arrested. He was denied and maybe banned! That is about all they do

I know for a fact that UK embassy is not able to ascertain the amount in the account because I know someone who went with OLUWOLE and got his Visa

OLUWOLE!!!!!!
OLUWOLE!!!!!!
OLUWOLE!!!!!!
OLUWOLE!!!!!!

That word makes me laugh!!!!

Nothing is impossible for God,  One thing I know for sure is Embassies dont know how much there is in an account. They only verify the account numbers and Names on it,  Banks can not tell any body except the government how much you have in Your account.

Except the embassy has a shady way of finding out,  I say this because everything is possible in Naija,
