@ djunit, what do you mean by "it is not our fault that we don't like to read"? We all are applying to US schools to try to get a better education than what is obtainable in Nigeria, right? It is outright laziness. Let's just face the fact. We always find who to blame for our own misfortunes. What would it take anyone, with genuine interest in getting a US degree, to go through a 100 pages of information that will be valuable to him?

We all want to help each other achieve our dreams by sharing valuable information here. I asked some "gurus" in the house why they haven't posted in a while, and it was based on their response that I decided to appeal to the house. No one here is below 15 years, if I'm right.
The truth is that if you have a challenge, or feel your situation is peculiar to you, reading those pages will help you understand how best to tackle your problem. If you've done research before, you'll realise that you tend to learn more by reading previous articles and texts than by asking questions.

Sorry for derailing the thread, but I just feel this issued has to be resolved so that we can maintain some order on the thread. Once again, just my 2 cents.
Is it our fault before that we dont like to read? Is it not the culture we met we followed? Whether you like it or not it is the truth. It would take at least three days or more to read the thread and understand very well so why would you want someone who has interview in three days time or in a weeks time to go start reading something that may end up discouraging them? If we Have no answers to any body's questions we should just keep mute until someone who has answers can answer. That is all I can say.

Nigerians like Awuf, what will it take us to read the post from page 1?, oga ooo.Superbrain,i agree joo

I have something to say. I read every page of this thread when I was in the process of applying for my F-1 and would encourage everyone to read it but lets be fair and sincere to each other it is not easy! If you have answers to peoples' question just answer it and stop telling them to go back and read. It is not our fault that we dont like to read you should blame our useless fore fathers for that! Abeg make we just be our brothers' keeper by helping when we can and not make them go through so much stress because we went through it!

@Obeycity, You must be able to convince uscis that this is not arrangee. Do you have evidences? Pictures, emails, letters,, Remember, you don`t have to pay a lawyer. Get all your facts together before filing for change of status, this is very important. Emails, pictures that you took together will help with your case. Is she a US citizen? That`ll make it a lot easier. I wish you the best.

@oyewolejos, That is so true. It is very expensive for F1 students considering $1 is about N156 (Jeeze!!!). Like you said, bring your tuition to America and plan, plan, plan. I mean financial planning. Allow me to say this, if you get stuck, get a student loan, only if you get stuck sad and use it wisely. Having your I-20 taken away sad and being illegal in the US is TOUGH to say the least.
I beg see where I bold! I need that student loan sharp sharp because I am more than stuck. I will really appreciate if you could explain to me how I can go about the student loan but if it involves going back home to naija to apply for it, I am not interested oooh! And that marriage thing in two months, does it mean that I cant merry someone in two months that I have been here? I wont apply for change of status at once but like three months or fivee months time. Abeg we need all the knowledge we can get.

Any body wey talk say make Ojap go back naija is not saying the right thing. Go back and do what? Make him go start to run after molue? Ojap like I told you before, your case is better. I have met other Africans I spoke with who came here with nothing, they slept in subways here in NY and today they have the papers with everything. No matter how bad it is this place is better! I know many people will not agree but suffering and conquering to become successful is what makes a man!

Ojap i think since u are here u shouldn't be posting your status on the internet. U can hook up with some house members who are already here privately than washing your dirty linen outside. If u remember when u called me i gave u the best advice u can get but somehow u didn't get back to me. California is a big state and loads of opportunities but it depends on what u wanna do. U have to gather your resources together and see what u can do for yourself.
I think u are the best person to decide what u wanna do. Whether to go back home or to stay put come rain come sun.
My Brother, its not easy here but people are managing it and hiding it. As its happening to u its happening to everybody.

Welcome to America
Land of the free, home of the brave. grin grin grin
Good talk bros but abeg any info go help every body for the house, whether you don jand or still dey naija. Any thing wey you know abeg tll us make we know as e dey go. People wey still dey naija too go learn from the thing. Hope you see it the way I see it.

@ OjaP, don't declare anything to anybody yet. If your semester is over; the next semester the school is gonna place you out-of-status meaning you are no longer paying your tutions. While you are out of status you can as well meet friends around that you can use their id and search for job then continue with life before your visa expires, along the same process you find a lady wey go fit accept you for who you are! That's america for you bro.; struggles with one way or another! Na so we take survive oh!

Even though we get issues, this is by far the best post that has ever hit this thread since it was created. I salute you for this one. One Love

You want to come to the US and your sister can not courier documents to you? That is weird. It is always better to have the real documents and not printed ones. It shows seriousness

Congrats arshy. That consular is always taking risks to give people visa. That is what he told me too even though I did not answer correctly but I made sure I said something and believe that is why he gave me. And God too played a big part. I can't wait to get to yankee.

There is no need to get back at john4uu
that way. He is not the first, and would not be the last to talk like that. Regardless of what they say or how discouraging their comments are, people will still do what they gotta do. The Lord who granted you the visa miraculously, has already gone ahead of you to yankee. And he will never stop the good work that he has started in your life, and you shall never be stranded. So, my guy no fear at all

@ House
It shouldn't be a big deal again for us to hear that life in yankee could be difficult at initial entry. I assume its a normal thing, and it's not peculiar to US alone. People moving from my village in Ekiti, would also face some challenges if they relocate to just Lagos here and not to talk of far away U.S. So, it's a normal thing to face some challenges as your intend to settle in a strange land. No matter how worse the story in Yankee is narrated to be, let's not be fearful. I simply believe that once we have been surviving the high level of abject poverty, gross unemployment, oppression, insecurity of life and property, injustice, lack of basic amenities, uncertainty about a great future for our selves and children, poor healthcare, poor governance, crippled economy and failing Nation, we should be able to survive what ever hardships these Nigerians in the U.S are talking about. I see everything as a matter of choice, determination, confidence, pro activeness and perseverance.

And as Naija guys, I know we shall always find our ways. No matter how hard. The oyinbos even know us, and that's why them no dey take Nigeria matter joke at all,  cool cool cool

May God bless you my Brother. If I could make it in Lagos state, Made it in Edo state, and then back to Lagos state, then made it in the dreaded warri with all the robbers and militants then back to Lagos I believe there is no where I wont make it if God stands by me. Even in hell I know God would never follow me to hell though grin grin grin grin grin

Congratulations to everybody that have gotten their visa, and to those that were rejected,I say be strong and try again.I know the road is not that easy but is worth fighting for.I was once like you before untill I was given a visa last spring. To God be the glory everything is going fine for me.

The visa is the most challenging issue in getting to the US,that seems the end of the road ,but it is the second phase of your journey. The best advice here is what people dont really wants to hear.America is not a bed of roses.Yes there is no doubt its the most beautiful country in the world, but establishing yourself as first timer is not that easy to crack mostly on non-immigrant visa. You will see beautiful stuffs and I wonder how long will you continue to be looking for beautiful things.

I believe most people coming here to school cant really afford the tuition rate.Guy is really expensive, but there are supports anyway with good academics background.I only came here with money that would afford me just a semester.I was initially admitted into second bachelor though I did graduate prep with just three couses and now I am doing my master's in Computer Engineering.

Choose schools that you know you have relatives around but unknow to the embassy. That would help you adjust easily.Dont ever think of coming here with the great hope that working here would pay for your tuition and living expenses.Based on my own observation most of the international students that I met here have rich parents sponsoring them here. The money is really expensive except you get schoolarship ,TA and TF.Prepare your coming if you know u wanna school here.If you dont I understand. F-1 students are not allowed to work out of the school(off campus ),but you can get jobs inside the school, jobs u can use to keep the body and soul together.Though you can work after you have spent two semesters.

I am not discouraging you, rather telling you the difficulties for first timer and how you will get ready for it.Make sure u have relatives here to guide you through for the main time. I wish everybody good luck in the US

My Brother thanks for your advice but this is really really really discouraging. See, it is not every one in naija that have rich parents your hear? Most guys who get visas are guys who have worked their Assssss off to get the visa and now you come to discourage us all? I believe there is a better way you would have told your story instead of planting fear in our hearts. This is what people did to me when I was going for my interview, planted so much fear in me that almost got me disorganized but God put me through and showed them he is greater. Bros, if you could survive we too will, if things were that bad why are you still there for masters? Come back home now.

Hello house,

Please I have a question - I canceled my appointment twice and so the VFS receipt was inactivated. However, considering that the resumption date of my school is near, I want to apply for emergency interview.

Do I still need a new VFS receipt since i will not be schedulling a new appointment online, but now send emails for emergency interview?

Pls I need urgent answers. Thanks
If You canceled twice you would need another receipt because to book emergency appointment they would need you to confirm a date even if it is in September so my advice to you is get a receipt by tomorrow and dont wait over the weekend as they dont sell them n weekends
