I am not anonymous, I am joining the group officially because i am expecting my i-20 from my school and need to ask some questions. I have read some Yvete's post where she was so rude to people. Many people like me are even afraid to post because of the fear of getting dissed. I have read this thread from page 1. I am 22 years old I am preparing to go for my undergrad interview at the end of next month.

Please, can anyone who has gone for their interview this past month elaborate on what the VOs are like this time around? What were your observations at the embassy? What are the VOs really looking for this time around? What types of people are they giving visas to and who are they rejecting and what are their main reasons for rejection?

I'm just trying to understand the embassy environment this year please.

I doubt any one has answers to your questions! This interview is not a general thing. Every case is different. The way they assessed the guy that went last week is not the way they would assess you.

They are not looking "any type/kind of persons"... Plus, they most of the time, do not have any reason for denying any body.

Imprecious I am not hopin for a better day in yankee. my own na to manage finish school go back home. It does not matter how much hope you have in this country everything is fixed, I have met too many people and got very close to them. These people make 100Gs annually and they still strugglin with student loans and mortgages This is how I know this country will not favor everyone especially people like us who grew up in other countries with different way of life. A life and system where we get what we want whenever we want.

YankeeBoi, eyaaa sorry for your situation ooooh! This is what I have always told everyone! Life here is not like Naija. In Naija you can walk for 30 minutues every day but here I doubt if anyone can survive it. When it rains/shines it is usually extreme. Yankee no easy! People go come here come lie give una about how you can survive on 150 bucks a month! Cost of Gasoline for two weeks is more than 150. When you add rent, food, electricity, water, internet, cable, insurance for both house and car then you go know say cost of living in Naija for a year is what you'd spend in a month here. And to get job Close to impossible. Few of us with jobs are lucky to have these jobs and most times the job does not pay every bill.



Like some people have said, start by telling us the state where you are maybe people can link you with other forum members.

One thing I can tell you is no Friends when it comes to payin bills in yankee. If you like know everyone in your city, no one is goin to take over your responsibilities.

My advice to people preparin to come to Yankee look for a contributor here on this thread who does not Sugar Coat anything. Someone that will tell you the way it is. Relate with that person so you will have an idea of what to face when you get here. I do not agree with Oyewolejos but he sounds like one of the people that will tell you the way it is.

I hate it when someone comes here to deceive everyone by saying "Yankee is the best place to be". I have never told anyone that and I will never tell anyone that because I know many people in Nigeria who are doin very well. I also know a couple of Nigerians who are in India of all places and doin very well.

In my opinion, if you see work outside school do am...As long as you no lie for your application no body go do anything to you. The only time wahala go dey na if you go lie say you be citizen or immigrant like many people here dey lie. With the truth, if they have to punish any body na the employer them go punish.

Get the job first before you worry about ICE lol....It is very hard to get a job outside school without proper documentation. To get proper documentation is another discussion for another day.

Tell her the truth. You cant get a date for the interview to make it on time. You need one additional week to get your visa. That is all you need to tell her

The letter may be useful at the embassy but it is not at the POE.... I have seen people come in two weeks after school started and they had no problems gettin in. So get the letter for the embassy, but POE na piece of cake

Carry wetin you get go.... If they ask you why you don't have the original tell them a story like your parents sent it in the mail but it got lost so you asked them to scan and send you a copy cos it is urgent. People too dey fear for everything self

The time you wasted in processing that community college could have been used to process a university!!! Many people have spoken about community colleges before. It is close to impossible to secure a visa with a community college.

Hi Everyone, this thread has been of great assistance to me, thanks a lot, I have applied for undergraduate for this spring, but having problems with my Waec Cert, the DOB is a bit altered because of WAEC's mistake. I'm having concerns about presenting this to the embassy, I would like to know if theres anyway around it, would the embassy probably accept a confirmation of result issued from WAEC? or can I go with a printout and scratch card? is that accepted? Please guyz advise me on what to do, thanks.

I had the same problem, two years ago,  WAEC had a bogus DOB on my certificate. I thought of going to the interview with a fake result (i'm glad I didn't) I went with the original result with the wrong DOB and I was not even questioned about it. They questioned me more because my result looks fake!!!!

my advice, just go with your WAEC cert, your birth cert and your passport, if they ask why the difference tell them it was an error from WAEC and it usually takes time for them to adjust it. Immigration will believe what is on your passport than any other document. Good luck bro
