babatulla: Went for my interview in lagos yesterday and it was quite a painful experience for me,
Couldn't print my sevis receipt online before my interview, but payment was already made.
My appointment was for 7a.m got to the consulate around 6:15 / 6:20 a.m. Was called in for the regualar checks and all, behold, my visa application receipt wasn't with me, was given 90 Mins to go get it. Dashed home like a mad dog, had to even take a bike back to the consulate to avoid running out of 90 Mins. I understand they do interview just one set on Fridays, nothing like 10a.m apptment. Made it there before the 90Mins elapsed. Was part of the last 10 to be interviewed. My tally number was 127 that last person's number was 134.
My interview went lyk this V.O : Hello Me: Good Morning
VO: pass me your documents Me: passed him my i20 and docs, V.O: where r u going to ? Me: Bleep state univ.
VO: and u r going for masters in ? Me : masters in computer and information system. V.O : highest educational qualification attained so far ? Me : bsc. Systems engineering, university of Lagos
Who is sponsoring u ? Me : my father V.O: what does he do ? Me : told him
V.O: bank statement pls. Me: gave him, closing balance of 19M. When did u graduate ? Me : 2008 V.O: what have you been doing since then ? Me : went for the 1yr nysc scheme, and then I got a job as an I.T support assistant. V.O : how long have you been working for them ? Me : 8 months now.
Me: what will this do for degree do for you. Me : as a graduate of Systems engineering, I have foundational knowledge in technological and managerial issues and how highly sophisticated systems are interconnected and made to function well.mcis will further equip me with relevant skills in business and computing.I'll be able to function well in any varying business environment. V.O: any travelling experience ? Me : yes, been to joburg SA and Dubai UAE. V.O : I'm sorry I cannot issue you a visa today. Reasons written on the form given to u,
Abeg wetin I do wrong ?, the guy no check transcript, e no check anything, he just dey deny ppl, he just came there to assist other V.Os ni, how I wish I was interviewed by the lovely ladies in window 1 and 2. Comments pls. Bros nothing wrong with your interview at all. In as much as we like to blame the people interviewing us we should remember they get their orders from people higher than them too. Some people pass the interview with no stress but what you are not told by the VO is Washington nor approve of your visa. The interview was just a formality. In some cases Washington approves some people and they fumble the interview. My advice is around the question the consular asked you. What will the degree do for you? Do you have to tell him all that? in my opinion no! Just tell him it will enable you work and make more money for your large family that depends on you. No long stories. Go at it again. I don see person wey them deny three times and the 4th time he was victorious so bros face them again! |

ahahahha, Scratch card ke for US Embassy, I dey laugh oooo, All the interview no dey psss 3 mins bro, Since you know your result scores and everything then go collect the certificate again or go do another one urself but let it be tally, you just need to prove yourself on one job you know much about it, because alot question going to base on it and also your salaries too,

Who say them nor dey ask for Scratch card? And who says the interview is 3 mins? Every case differs. The fact say you spend 3 mins nor mean say na 3 mins them go spend on next applicant. They may choose to spend 1 or even 10 mins. Every body case different.
My advice carry anything wey go prove your result |

Thanks. And please how are the vo counters in Abuja arranged, so i can know how to avoid the mean vo's. Hi People, I'm happy for those of you who got their Visas, As for those who were denied I want you to be strong and prepare for your second coming, For those of you who haven't gone, please learn from the mistakes of others and use it to your advantage, I would like to say this first, if you dont know how to lie dont try it! It is so to tell when some people are lyin so it is best if You dont lie since you know you are not good at it. The guys who do the interview have one weak point, they believe so much that they can tell when you are lyin, We all know this so we should be able to use it to their advantage, No braggin, it would take only GOD to know if I'm well prepared to tell lies, Na the way I grow up so dont blame me, This is what I want everyone to know, It is very hard to go to that Embassy and not lie, very few people would go there and not lie, The only way you would not lie is if your Papa na one rich man, If you be like me, there is every tendency that you are goin to lie, So abeg before we tell lies, lets make sure we are able to convince ourselves with the lies, Someone said you needed TOEFL to get US Visa, I say that is a lie because I got my visa without TOEFL and UK denial had just been stamped on it. It is not whether you do TOEFL or not, Most of these schools only need TOEFL because they use that to access you. My school waived it for me because I was in contact with them for months, And they took all my emails into consideration before they waved it for me. The guy that interviewed me asked me for TOEFL and I told him exactly that, School waived it because they got convinced I didn't need it cos of my emails, I also read someone where that you have to dress like Bill Gates, George Bush, Why cant you dress like Steve Jobs? From my assessment of those guys at the embassy, if they take anything into consideration it would be the way you talk to them, they way you look and not how much your clothes cost, When I went for my interview, my Big Bros insisted I wore a button shirt cos ordinarily I am the T-shirt guy, Just because I wanted to please them I took a shirt to ABJ, because it had been long I wore that shirt I didn't know the last button to cover the chest was broken and wasn't functional, I could go back to lag to get a new shirt, so I wore it that way, My chest was open and my singlet was visible to everyone but I didn't care much about it. Dont get me wrong here, even with the button off I didn't look like a tout or criminal. That didn't make them not give me Visa and I got to understand more that what you wear does not really count to these people when I got here. Just look nice and you will be fine, Another big this is your Age, The guy who interviewed me asked me of my Age, I told him I was 21 and he said he didn't believe I was up to that, He had to look at my passport again, Accordin to him, I look 19, And I hear that every day where I work here that I look 18 or 19, Guys, what I am sayin is I know what to do to myself to look my real age but someone advised me to look as young as possible at the time I was goin for My interview and it worked, All I needed to do to look old was leave my hair a little but I didn't do that, I cut my hair and looked as young as possible, Try your best to discuss with them, dont see it as an interview but see it as a discussion between two people, that would ease you a little and would take a little fear from you, I know it is hard but it is very possible, just relate with them as friends and not as people who are superior than you because they are not, People laughed at me when the CO asked me "What is Statistics?" and I answered, "I dont know now because it's been a while but when I read my books again I would be able to give you an answer" but that proved to be the right answer, Some people here called me dumb, trust me I am ten times smarter than most of them!!!!!! I could have given that guy my English understandin of the word statistics but I chose not to because that might not be what he wanted to hear, Some people would agree with my post but some wouldn't, I wouldn't have posted this if someone did not ask me to, I'm just doin it for the person and I pray that person would get his Visa soon, Just remember, if you are not good at tellin lies dont try it!!!! And you dont have to dress to kill, What is the essence of dressin like Bill Gates and you talk like Baby of cash money? ( To me that guy is the dumbest guy alive, Ask him anything and his response would be how much he and his son make) And dont forget to put God first in everything, God be with us all |

herself: quick question house, how were you guys able to pay for your application fee?. am applying to a school in texas and am using the apply texas app. i'm meeting a brickwall as they want a mastercard which i don't have. i have a visacard card and thats not applicable. does anybody know how i can get past this. like, what are my options? to those schooling in texas, any way i can pay without using the mastercard? please share. thanks. Herself, I would advice you to contact the school first and explain things to them. I actually got a waiver for the application fee because I'm on my school's Facebook page when I applied. I suggest you tell them you are not able to pay because of your location and see what they have to say. If that does not work out then you look for someone to pay it for you |

Your right answers may be wrong to the guy interviewin you. So that idea of havin right answer, I'm not in agreement with. The main thing here is God and as for answerin questions all they need is give them an Idea that you know what they are talkin about. That is why some times they would even correct you when you go off balance in respondin to their questions,
Forget all the noise people make about how nice and easy they answered the questions in the VO mind you may have scored zero points in the interview but he took other things into consideration in issuin you the visa. From my observation, I can tell they take everything into consideration.
Age, potential, level of interaction, If you choose to stay put in the US if you would not disorganize the system. Everything counts and most especially GOD! |

1)clothing, you could get some sweaters, jackets from goodwill stores for cheap, plus you get your money back as tax deductible 2)toiletries, i'll rather buy a colgate @ dollartree for $1(generally all toiletries stuff barsoap, tissue, toothpaste are cheaper at a dollar store 3)groceries, walmart and aldi 4)phone, a prepaid phone would do your budget a world of good,straighttalk.net10,metropcs about $30 a month,no thrills,no frills no sweat 5)callcard to nigeria, $2 black and white card is good bout 39 mins,phonecardcentral.com has a per second option,a bit expensive but no hidden charges 6)online purchases, get a visa giftcard for your purchase no extra charges!for buying online from walmart, get a walmart giftcard, they do have great deals online.(shopping with a bank debitcard is just not safe!!!!) just my 2 cents, would love to benefit from others too. You nor go kill person lol, Most banks will refund your money if truly you had nothing to do with the fraud, |

I know OPT is what Naija calls IT. It is like Internship. For those who are scared about resuming school after the date nor to worry yourself. One of my Naija guy came in like three weeks after we had resumed and he still got into classes. I understand your fears but trust me as long as you can cross that POE you nor get stress with school.
To me if Consular asks you about the date tell them it is because you been trying to book an appointment and for that you talked to your school already. No big deal. The consular na human being and he go understand! |

It's overwhelming, I can't start thanking each and everyone of you cos I'll be lost trying to mention names but all the same you all are highly appreciated. I learnt a great deal from this insightful forum and I'm glad it all came in handy just at the right time. Once again, thanks alot everybody!
@djunit1, lol yeah I'm coming to NYC. I'll be staying in Brooklyn though so if by chance you're also in that area then we could get to relate. Anyway, what's the favour? If it's sensitive then we fit talk privately on YIM/LIVE/SKYPE.
@smoothsail, am glad to know you finally got a date. You see it's perseverance but was it through blackmarket? I hope not. Well, which date were you given and is it Abuja or Lagos? If it's the former, please ensure you avoid that Chinese lady cos she's indeed what we call her here and sure ask a hell lot of complicated questions! Try to meet this middle aged guy that interviewed me cos he was extremely kind, friendly and patient. One thing again, your appearance matters alot to some extent. Try to be natural and create an aura of simplicity on first contact with him. Believe me, if you're able to achieve this, you guys would flow to an extent that whatever you say or any flaws you may have would never be scrutinized. Best wishes and Success to you on the appointed day!
@mohaka, I'm sorry to hear your AP hasn't been resolved up till this moment. Just keep praying and trusting in God, I believe it'll all be over soon, It is well okay, just take it easy. And by the way, you may wish to contact the embassy again to inquire into the status of your case if you think it has taken too long. Best wishes brother man! My YM is djunit1 |
