For the umpteenth time, the phone alarm screamed at the top of its voice, in the dimly-lit room, which made Stephen let out a groan like a child deprived of his favorite toy!

With his eyes still shut, he groped around the bed for the device so he'll hit the snooze button, once again. Having found it, he opened his eyes which met the time displayed on the phone screen. It read 6.30am. He sprang up from the bed and wobbled quickly to the bathroom!

The matter began yesterday, when a newly-assigned but ruthless manager had given him a mountain of paperwork to finish and submit directly to him by 7am, the following day. Though Stephen was yet to complete the task, he just had to retire at about 6pm, out of sheer exhaustion!

"I'll finish this when I get home", he assured himself as he trotted past the large office gate, with the briefcase in his left hand.

Arriving at his abode, at about 8pm, Thelma gave him a warm hug while his little son, playfully tugged his left leg.

"Not tonight, Jason", he glanced down and sternly told him before giving his wife that usual look that suggests a busy night for him. "I'll bring dinner to your bedroom, dear", she said.

An hour later, after cleaning up and having a sumptuous meal, paperwork resumed in earnest, in his room, during which he meticulously dotted the "i"s and crossed the "t"s.

By 2am, he gave a sigh of relief! He carefully put the ready documents into the briefcase. Then he rose from his work chair and walked languidly to the bed, on which he fell like a log of wood. Within minutes, he was fast asleep.

"Gosh! I am late!", he muttered as his soapy hand glove zigzagged his body. After dressing up, he walked out of the room and towards the direction of the aroma, Thelma was cooking up, in the kitchen.

"Honey, sorry I can't wait for breakfast. See you and Jason when I return", he said with his hands wrapped around her from behind. "It's alright, dear. I'll explain to Jason when he wakes up", she replied.

Stephen arrived at his workplace, at 7.30am. Though he was glad about the light traffic on the way, the feeling was overridden with worry as he walked into the lobby where he saw the receptionist.

"Good morning to you, Friday", he said. "Has the manager arrived?", he quickly asked. "No, he hasn't, Sir", Friday replied.

Now relaxed, Stephen walked slowly into his office. His head was foggy and body, weak. "Let me rest a bit, before he comes", he muttered.

His rest seemed endless until it was cut short by repetitive taps on his hand and calls of his name. Slowly raising his head, his heavy eyes caught sight his boss, right in front of him, giving a quizzical look that sent cold chills down his spine!

"In Jesus' name, I pray", Stephen uttered to cover up what he was doing. He could only imagine what was going on in his Ogah's mind, as he stood there.

Sleep is a state of reduced consciousness that all humans get into on a regular basis for good reason. It is the time your body dedicates to doing something crucial, which it cannot do while you are awake!

Sleep is non-negotiable. However, we are the only mammals that can willingly delay or prolong sleep!

In our time, what's popular is the 8-Hour Rule in which we are told that we need about 8 hours of sleep, per night, to be and stay healthy. Though not far from the truth, it hides something more important!

From my studies, during and after Medical School, I got to realize that it's not how long you sleep that matters but when you sleep and when you wake up!

Stephen is a typical example of a Poor Sleeper. However, he is not so because he slept for less than 8 hours but because he worked when he should be sleeping and slept when he should be working!

If you sleep and wake up at the wrong times, for a stretch of weeks or even few days, though it be about 8 hours, you'd begin to experience its unhealthy consequences which affect the quality of your life and can cut short your lifespan!

Each day of Poor Sleep, which really is about working and sleeping at the wrong times, takes you closer to the grave!

Hi! I think it's important you begin by asking about what NOT to do, to treat this "yeast infection" before you dwell on what to do.

For a start, I highly recommend you reduce your intake or outrightly ditch into the bin, those drugs, especially antibiotics, which you use.

Generally, drugs "stimulate" your body cells to overwork and grow weak. And as weakened cells grow (including your immune cells), fungi grow to "help" you break them down.

So, yes, the real enemy isn't fungi but the toxins in your body, they decompose.

Secondly, get your hands on dietary supplements, from a trusted brand, to help mop off some of the toxins, that overwhelm your body.

Thirdly, revamp your dietary lifestyle, alongside other aspects of your physical health, which I regard as the "Elements of Mother Nature".

Tell me something! Let's assume you were offered an irresistible amount of money, say $900 million, tied to a special job that will require you to work endlessly, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week for an indefinite number of years.

Would you accept the proposal or you'd be busy thinking about how insane that employer is?

Frankly, there is an employee doing this job for you, right now! A worker that has been doing it, since you were born and will continue to do it, even though you fail to pay him, his dues!

Who the heck is this mysterious laborer? Simple! Your beating heart, just beneath your chest!

When I sat my butt down to properly study the physiology of the human heart, I was short of words! What an intelligent design by our "Creator"! Being an organ about the size of your clenched fist, it's composed of a perfect network of muscles, triggered by smart, "pacemaker" cells to pump your blood, 24/7; cells which don't need your permission to work!

This partly explains why open, heart surgeries are often successful! The heart can still beat, smartly, when detached from the human chest! It also explains why the leading cause of natural death in the 21st century is heart disease, simply due to a "tired heart" that stems from years of neglecting the Elements of Nature, the body cries for daily!

Now, let's come back to you! Do you know that one of the numerous ways you can care for your "selfless" heart, which pumps the "river of life" to every other organ-system, is through Deep Breathing?

Simply put, deep breathing is vital in improving the performance of your cardiovascular system!


This system is basically made up of your heart (the central pump) and countless miles of blood vessels (the pipes). And blood vessels, leaving the heart, carry nutrient-rich blood that feeds the trillions of active cells in you.

Now, it's well-known that the heart normally pumps at an average pressure of 120 millimetres (mm), as shown on the clinical sphygmometer; a force that is equivalent to 30 feet, in practical terms, which is almost half the length of a lawn tennis court!

However, what isn't widely known is that at the junction where nutrients diffuse to your cells, in exchange for toxic by-products, the pressure drastically drops to about 17mm! And
it falls even further as this toxin-laden blood enters your veins, the pipes that return blood to your heart.

Now, when you breathe in, deeply as well as breathe out fully, something amazing happens!

Just before I reveal it, I must note that within your chest, lies two lungs with your heart, in between. And within your abdomen, lies numerous organs such as the liver, stomach, kidneys amid others. And a wide sheet of muscle, known as the diaphragm, seperates your chest organs from those below!

So, while you breathe in, deeply, this diaphragm contracts more and pushes downwards, your abdominal organs. This push "squeezes" the various veins in your abdomen, leading to more blood, returning to your heart, above!

And when you breathe out, deeply, your abdominal muscles press in your organs and consequently, those veins, returning even more blood!

So, "kini big deal" if more blood returns to your heart? Two key benefits, there are!

Foremost, blood returning to your heart carries toxic carbondioxide (CO2), which must be eliminated quickly (see reasons, in Part 1). Hence, more returning blood means more CO2 will be kicked out, via your lungs!

Secondly, more returning blood means more vital Oxygen (O2) can be absorbed from your lungs. What this means is that more O2, amid other nutrients, will be delivered to your "hungry" brain amid other organ-systems that keep you alive!

I regard the brain as hungry because this squishy organ that is barely 2% of your body mass, consumes more nutrients (especially O2) than most organs in the body. And if blood flow is reduced, even for few seconds, brain cells begin to die, which culminates into issues from depression to stroke!

So, it's obvious that another amazing way, deep breathing can help you feel better and lengthen your life is by making more blood available for your heart to redistribute to where its wastes will be removed and its nutrients, consumed!

Hello dear!

This case is akin to a "Geepee" tank that brings out dirty water, through the tap. And the owner wanting to solve the problem by cleaning its exterior surface with a rag!

Have you ever thought about the past events that led to this issue? Unless of course, you were born with a "scaly" skin. Were you?

Have you ever thought about what you eat, how you eat and when you eat? And yes, they do influence your skin for it's a living organ, needing nutrients, daily!

One fateful morning, at the College of Medicine, we had a memorable time with one of the professors whose weekly lectures with my classmates and I further piqued my love for Human Physiology.

Specializing in Respiration, he began that morning lecture with an interactive session, relative to the impact of regular exercise on breathing capacity. We were asked to form twin groups, wherein each person took turns to time how long it takes for the seated partner to hold his-her breath! Some held on for 10 seconds; fewer held on for 20 seconds! Uhmm, I think I'll keep mine to myself!

In as much as that interactive session is an inaccurate way of measuring breathing capacity (since other factors are involved), our tendency to quit holding our breath speaks volumes about the importance of breathing within which lies the key to our survival; a key, lots of folks don't maximize fully.

The first few seconds after every baby is born into the world, it cries, not really due to discomfort but as a natural instinct to gulp in air, containing vital gases it once had an ample supply of in its mama's womb! This begins the lifelong process of external respiration, also known as breathing which largely occurs automatically!

Everybody breathes normally, every second of the day and through the hours of sweet sleep, courtesy of special neurons of the hindbrain, within your neck, that work on autopilot, 24/7! And when we exert ourselves, those neurons "spark" more, leading to faster and shallow breaths.

However, just a fraction of us engage in deep breathing, the unpopular third, besides the normal and the fast! So, what's the big deal about it?

Over the years, smart scientists have been able to count as much as 250 volatile gases, existing in the air we breathe. However, only two stands out, relative to your survival - Oxygen (O2) and Carbondioxide (CO2)!

Now, deep breathing is the key to increasing, by as much as 86%, your body's supply of life-sustaining O2 as well eliminating, by as much as 69%, the toxic by-product, CO2!

Just like the vast sea shore is made of uncountable grains of sand, your physical body is composed of countless trillions of active "cells" which individually consume O2 to produce stores of crucial energy and consequently release the by-product, CO2, which must be eliminated immediately!

Do you know that the hidden factor behind every chronic disease you can think of, from stroke, diabetes...... which kills people untimely, is Oxidative Stress? Moreover, poor breathing partly contributes to this factor!

Now, the by-product, CO2, needs to be eliminated as quickly as it's produced by the trillions of cells in you! Not only does excess CO2 stimulate your cells to "overwork" but makes your body fluids, acidic which permits the growth of bacteria, fungi and viruses!

Though your kidneys do well in eliminating CO2 via your urine, a good chunk of it is disposed when you breathe air, out of your lungs! However, many of us expel just about 0.5 litre when the lungs are capable of pushing out as much as 4.6 litres per breath!

So, it's clearly obvious that one of the amazing ways, deep breathing can help you feel good as well as lengthen your life is by increasing your body's supply of vital Oxygen and its disposal of harmful Carbondioxide!

Now, I can't expect you to engage in deep breathing, every second of your day! Whether we like it or not, our usual, daily routine will keep us breathing normally, 90% of the time!

The afternoon was serene and the breeze was soft on my skin as I sat outside the gross lab of the Anatomy Department. Back then in 2015, the "gross lab" was the only place in the College of Medicine, where cadavers (dead, human bodies) were preserved for teaching purposes.

Though some of my medical mates were freaked out by the sight of these stone-cold bodies on the dissection board, it was a thrilling experience for me, learning about the human anatomy!

The living human body; your body as well as mine, is like a car. As the car requires fuel to serve its purpose, we require food to stay alive. And this food we swallow, when broken down, will not provide us life-sustaining energy until Oxygen, from the air we breathe, reacts with it!

Your true sex organ is not your "little friend" down there but your brain up there! Until you are sexually aroused by what you think, see or feel, your brain will not send signals downwards to command your penile muscles to relax and enlarge for the occasion. The first step to a full erection is to ensure your mind is at peace.

I went for a scan which told me I av pelvic inflammatory disease and acyesis and dat Ap diameter 3.8cm, normal myometrium with thickened endometrial plate, moderate fluid is seen at the pouch of douglas measuring 11mm and av went to my doctor and I was placed on drugs so after two weeks of d drugs I went for another scan which shows dat Ap diameter 4.0cm and fluid collections of 14mm depth am scared because I dnt knw if the disease is going or not

Hi Ayaademi. I commend you for your courage in seeking advice beyond the walls of the hospital you visited. From this "technical" report, it is obvious there is no improvement in your health. I suggest you meet your doctor again and find out why the drugs appear ineffective. Personally, I suggest you resort to "curative medicine" (which I like to call the RED Therapy) which is about radically modifying your diet and lifestyle. It would help improve the effectiveness of the drugs you use and prevent the re-occurence of this disease. Hope we can chat some more.

Erectile Dysfunction is not a death sentence but it can ruin your self-esteem as a man and may gradually progress into infidelity, a messy break-up or divorce! I don't think you want this to happen to you.

It's just a few minutes left before his world shatters into fragments and he doesn't know yet! As I pondered about how to begin this post, I flashed back to a popular Nigerian advert about the painkiller, Panadol.

It painted a scenario of a middle-aged man who was obviously enjoying himself as a truck driver, almost throughout that day. He anticipated going home to his wife & kids when a serious headache hits him. He grabs some Panadol tablets and then feels great again!

Hmm. Now, I really have nothing against painkillers or drugs in general. As a medical student, I understand how they work and its quite a fascinating process..

However, drugs *only* cut away the stem of the problem plant, leaving the root untouched! And when the root isn't eliminated, the problem plant regrows of course!

In light of this, I must write that the first & perhaps the most important benefit of Sleep is *Improved Health, Strength And Life*

Practically, all health problems you can think of, including that headache, our driver friend experienced, can be linked to Sleep Deficiency.

Fact #3: Have you noticed you tend to be uncontrollably hungry when you're restless? Sleep maintains a healthy balance of the hormones, Ghrelin & Leptin, which make you feel hungry & full respectively.

In one of the previous posts to my Health Lovers on WhatsApp, I shared with them, the RED Law which is quite a universal key that unlocks the door to enjoying health, strength & long life..

We also dug into the first aspect of the RED Trio which is REST. I'll begin my writing here, about it...

There are 2 aspects of it - Physical Rest & Mental Rest - but our focus will be on Physical REST (or Sleep).


Wetin Be Sleep?

SLEEP is a state of unconsciousness, that every living human being gets into, on a regular basis. It is a fact that every mammal, most reptiles, amphibians & fish require sleep to function properly.

Sleep is non-negotiable. However, you & I are the ONLY mammals that willingly delays sleep! Now, this is where there could be trouble, if we're ignorant about this age-old activity..

Fact #1: You'll die from sleep deprivation before food deprivation. It takes 2 weeks to starve for an able person but 10 days without sleep can kill you! (PsychologyDegree.Net)


So, Which One You Go Choose? Food Or Sleep?

Of course, you can't choose one! However, as much as both are vital & work closely, SLEEP is more important!

It has been a long, stressful Wednesday for Boniface, the Danfo Driver. He did ask for it though!

On Tuesday, a day before, the profits he made, driving through the streets of Lagos with Amadi, his conductor, was pitiful.

He shivered at the thought of the "Agbeeros" (tax-collecting louts) holding his neck. He gulped at the thought of his nagging wife, holding his trousers in return for money to feed the "full house".

Mustering the will, Boniface woke up by 4am and worked aggressively throughout that Wednesday till 12am! His profits were great, eventually! He wanted that more than anything else.

He drove home, late that night, as tired as a rock and went straight to bed after "settling" his wife. "Work go continue, 4am tomorrow", he muttered.

It's Thursday morning! Boniface jumps out of bed, in response to a loud bang at the door. The house is empty. And the time is 8am!

There is an adage, culled from the Bible, which says that the stone the builders rejected, has become the cornerstone! I must inform you right away that SLEEP, is like that cornerstone.

If people were asked to list out the factors required to succeed in life, I'm pretty sure most won't mention Sleep! I doubt if you would too.. It certainly shouldn't be the case!

This age-old activity called Sleep, is non-negotiable and your body knows this; so it does all it can to make you doze off when the "red lights" are blinking! Unfortunately, we have the power to control when we Sleep and this can be to our downfall!


Why Is Sleep So Important? What Happens When You're Out? What Was Happening To Boniface, While He Was Dozing Off?


Simply put, when you sleep, your body activates the construction factory in you! And the role of this activation is to kick-start the process of building & repairing YOU, on a cellular level... This is the time, your body dedicates to disposing worn-out cells (old soldiers), renewing existing cells (soldiers with potential) & growing new cells (recruits).

If enough time is not given for this complex process, you'll feel the weakness during the day as your body won't be well "armed" to take you through the day's battle!


You May Wonder. Why Did Boniface Wake Up Late?

There are 2 reasons why he woke up late; reasons that will be of immense benefit to you if you understand them!

Firstly, his mind was at rest! Having made sufficient profits to settle the "big boys" and his daunting wife, nothing weighed his mind so SLEEP took over fully. And this is healthy for him, even though he woke up, 8am!

More often than not, people who suffer from Insomnia (Inability To Sleep) are observed to be going through either an exciting or debilitating phase in their lives. I explained this aspect, in depth, in an audio series I'll be launching soon, for my Health LOVERS.

Secondly, his body was virtually "drained" out! Sleeping is meant to recharge you in preparation for another day of work. However, if you work beyond normal, your energy levels go below 0%, leaving your body no choice but to make you sleep, longer!


So, dear Nairalander. Do you desire to enjoy great health, strength & long life? Let sufficient SLEEP be on your list of factors for a successful life!

And uhmm, with regard to the loud bang on the door in Boniface's empty apartment, I'll leave it to your imagination!

I've been on Nairaland since 2013, observing the threads that roll out especially in this Health section. Eye-catching, logical messages as well as the confusing & doubtful ones we see. It can be really hard to tell if the writer is down-to-earth with you..

Truly, the topic around the Staph infection has been mixed with claims & complaints from people. It would be of no use, if I put up my claims too..

Instead, I want to share with you my experience about this issue... A personal experience? Nah! These are bittersweet experiences I had while working with a couple of customers in the past.

Experiences which taught me vital lessons, I'm thankful for now!


Hold On A Second!

While we take this journey together, it would be great if I sprinkle my thoughts, over the course of this thread, of what Staph really is, its common symptoms & its root cause.


So, What Really, Is Staph?

Staph is a shortened version of Staphylococcus, which is a group of bacteria that causes a number of diseases as a result of infection of body tissues. However, human infections are mostly caused by the Staphylococcus aureus.

This bacterium is normally found harmless, in the nose and on the skin of about 30% of healthy adults and hospital workers!

What this implies is that there is a risk of being infected by Staph, even if you're healthy! However, something has to be happen before the risk becomes an infection. I'll write about this soon.. Meanwhile.....


What Are Its Symptoms?

The Staph Infection can express itself as mild & requiring no treatment TO severe & potentially fatal!


*The Disease On The Skin expresses as a local collection of boils or a discharge of Pus. Affected areas may be red, swollen, itchy or painful.

This reminds me of Joy, a customer in Illupeju, Lagos Nigeria. When I first met her to deliver my Solution, her face was numbered with a few boils. On my next visit, few months later, they were gone along with other symptoms!


*The Disease In The Blood is an advanced form which expresses itself as high fevers, chills, worm-like movements, stomach rumbling, joint pains among others..

This reminds me of Jamiu in Surulere, Lagos Nigeria. His case bothered me the most because he had been tormented by the infection for more than 2 years. When I met him in May 2015, he complained about a tingling sensation in his manhood, stomach rumbling & general body pains.

Jamiu believes his visit to the public swimming pool invited the infection since he first noticed a boil in his nose around that time. Unfortunately, he passed the disease to his wife via intercourse. 

I told him of my Solution which he used for 30 days. As expected, his report was heart-warming because there was a significant decline in his symptoms. The hospital test revealed a "scanty" growth which was heavy initially!

I must admit to you though, that I made a MISTAKE. Staph is a living thing which grows and will grow if you let it be! I never insisted that he continued with my Solution for at least 2 months. We let it be for months & his situation fell to "square 1". I felt bad!

Over time, my confidence went to the roof, about him (as well as anyone else, including you) being free of Staph!

This was due to a chat I had with Samuel, a faithful customer based in Osun State, Nigeria.
