I have worked very close to the corridor of power (politicians) in Nigeria and can tell you the financial pressure on them from different groups, associations, individuals, party members, family members, etc. They come with different financial demands and will do anything to discredit your name or government if their needs are not satisfactorily met, not minding your sources of income, limitations, etc. Though this is not a justification for corruption but it aided corruption and for it to go, this must be checked.

You dnt go into marriage expecting Magic to happen so as for the love to keep going. You dnt go into with the mind of making your spouse suffer and yet you expect the marriage to remain happy or intact. You've got to see marriage as Hardwork coming from the both of you and not from one person only. It has been said that the more couples grow old together, staying committed to each other, the more they become happier and their love grows more and more over the years to the point that they get so used to each other. Just have that kind of vision for your marriage and you will enjoy it.

Unfortunately by law there is nothing like "completing" someones tenure. The constitution and the SC ruling on Haruna Vs INEC and the SC ruling that sacked 5 Govs in 2012.
1. The ticket is a joint ticket, and both the candidate and running-mate are a team not separated.
2. The tenure is 4 years for every term. Yaradua/Jonathan won the 2007-2011 term as joint. Jonathan only succeeded his boss, who he won the ticket with.
3. By law, a person canNOT spend more than 8years as a substantive President but can spend less (SC ruling on the 5 Govs in 2012).
4. Jonathan took his first oath of office as the substantive President in May 2010 for his first tenure-actually in continuation of 2007-2011(According to SC ruling on Boni Haruna) and another in May 2011 for his 2nd Term. Taking a 3rd oath will represent an unconstitutional 3rd term in office.
5. Should Jonathan win 2019, it wÍll mean thÀt he will spend more than 8Ýrs in office which is unconstitutional(SC ruling of 2007 and 2012)
6. It is a big legal hurdle for Mr. Jonathan.


My Verdict:
He is not qualified to run! But I leave it to learned Judges

In the absence of GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN, I will vote for Atiku; in the absence of Atiku, I will vote for any other candidate (Kwankwaso or even a worst candidate than Kwankwaso) but certainly NOT buhari.

And this is where I think we miss it. Respect should not be a one way street or dependent on age. Older people should also accord the youth respect. In societies like Nigeria, the old has too much power and that needs to be checked for the weak not to be trampled upon. I can understand standing for the aged to have your seat or helping them carry their bags, but the older people need to get a grip, come down their high horse and understand that in this century they will be challenged if they go out of line.

So you don't have any problems with your child calling you by your names, point fingers on your face, tell you that you're stupid, refuses to greet you and expect you to greet him first in the morning??

To answer your question on whether we should salvage this tradition, my answer is YES. HOW? We should salvage it by teaching it to our younger ones and children through showing perfect example.
REASONS: that's our identity as a people, that's our tradition as a society , that's who we are as a nation.

SECONDLY, the borrowed western culture/ tradition has not helped us as a nation. It makes us live a fake life and devalued us in the eyes of our slave-master. Why should I beat my mother because her thoughts do not go down well with me. Why should I walk almost nude on the street because of fashion? Etc??

I think we as a people must appreciate who we are, build on it because if we don't, nobody will. You become what you present yourself to be. I love to be address as an African wherever I go. We're humble people, WE ARE BLACK PEOPLE, AFRICAN AND THERE'S NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT THAT.
