I use a DC breaker btw inverter and battery.... It never trips cos it's well sized efuro: Is it really a DC Breaker. You will not find high success rate using a breaker btw bank and inverter. It will always trip under surge, Ask marketers in the house for 150-250A battery switch is available if at all they have.

I think I’m getting paranoid right now.. I have a 1500w system

Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DMerciful(m): 3:05pm On May 13, 2018 |
48v battery system fails this way unless you have multiple string of 48v so that each string might be doing 5A else imbalance sets in even with balancers.. My reco is to limit our systems to 12v or 24v unless you have enuf money for multiple battery strings. If you have money go lithium and have peace of mind NoMoreTrolling: well the choice of cc was made my the installer, we just paid for the whole system, instead of paying for parts, so we had to deal with what he got.
As for experience, well, this stuff is all pretty basic. well i guess that sounds, weird, being that I made this cc error, but the more I think about it, the less sense it makes. When the batteries are full, the charge controller throttles charging current all the way down to zero, even in full sun, so why would it fry when the battery is disconnected isn't that open circuit similar to no current on a full battery
As for the battery, well the charging characteristics were met pretty closely. The CC would charge up to 56v daily, same with the inverter. So it was never overcharged. we just started losing capacity rapidly. I mean we have 2,000 watts of solar, electricity from 10-7a.m, 4 200ah batteries and just running 500 watts load continuous. I feel under these circumstances, that the battery should have lasted for years. |

Wrong practice to disconnect battery when panels are still connected to cc, the cc will most likely fail. I solved this problem by using a double pole breaker with battery-cc positive going tru one pole while cc-panel positive going tru d other pole that way anytime you trip the battery breaker, everything goes off. What is your charge controller make? earthrealm: wow, most cc cant handle the exceesive juice coming from the panels..if u disconnect the cc to batt connection..leaving the panel to cc connection on. its common knowledge here naaau, only a few cc makes can survive this error, my epsolar 60amp survived it...but i wudnt test fate next time, i may not be so fortunate whats the make of urs? |

lexi28 Here is how to resolve the excessive mustpower series temperature issue by changing the position of the temperature sensor so the fan comes on at 40 degrees vs 65degrees. step 1: Locate the temperature sensor on the heat sink(first picture) step 2:Increase the length of the temperature sensor wire by adding additional wires so it can reach the transformer step 3:Loose one nut of the transformer lamination holder and use a big washer to fix the temperature sensor to the transformer as shown(third picture) whatsapp me for further clarification(see my signature) NiyiOmoIyunade: This question should be for Oga DMerciful. It is normal however uncomfortable. I solved the problem by relocating the temperature sensor from the heatsink to the transformer body which is the hottest member and now my mustpower runs cooler. Tchyfingy: I recently installed a 3000w 48v mustpower inverter and observed that the temperature of the body really gets very hot reaching up to about 65 deg.C as indicated from the lcd display. Although when it gets that hot, the cooling fan comes on. I just want to know whether it's normal. If not, is there anything that can be done? thanks |

Congratulations.....i love ground mount. easy to tweak sinistrian: Thanks to Zeestone, I have been able to get an improved yield from my panels using a combination of the following: * Added 3 x 300W panels to the existing 1800W * Oriented the panels from a shaded part of the compound to a more sunny one (still ground-mount though) * Changed the panel arrangement from 2Sx3P to 3Sx3P (voc from 88V to 132V)
Statistics before: * Controller wakes up at 7:30am * Maximum power output is 1306W from a 1800W array * Max output current ever was 21A * Average daily ampHours generated is 38AH (even without loads on) * Degraded output as from 3:15pm due to shading. Output drops to zero by 6:30pm
After reconfiguration:
* Controller starts working from 6:45am * I've seen up to 1,897W and 26.4A output from the (now) 2700W array, and it's not even midday yet * About 64.9AH already generated before 12 noon * From 75% SOC, batteries (4 x 200AH, 48V) are already in absorb (which, for me, usually starts at approx 97%) by 11:30am * Panels still receiving sunlight and generating up to 150W by 6:30pm as at yesterday evening (no shading)
Also, he organized a neat job for my backboard, considering the mess I put together by myself before |

I do not know this exulted brand however you did not mention what charge controller you are using. Mustpower idle power consumption is appreciable and this increases with the kva so be mindful of that. your panels is enuf to charge ur batteries and at least augment the inverter gap.....you might need to check if the panels are facing the right angle nonoski: The Inverter is Exulted Inverter 3.5Kva; The Charging Current is 53.4v and the charging current is 11.4A The Solar Panels are also Exulted 300w rated (Voc 38.8v; Isc 10.21A) 12nr connected in 3S4P.
For now i believe the problem is the Inverter and 1 or 2 bad batteries.
I am making arrangements for Mustpower 5Kva Inveter then i change and increase my battery bank |

Give more details preferably specifications of ur inverter, solar panels and we might help diagnose what's wrong with ur setup. It might just be a little tweaking and you will get the output required. nonoski: So I finally finished my connection over the weekend and have been monitoring the results.
Here’s my story. It will help a lot of people venturing into RE. My setup for now is 12 panels rated 300watts (3600w) each in 3S4P connection. I already had an inverter and 48v x 200Ah battery bank (Bluegate VRLA Batteries). The batteries are 13 months old. Before powering my charge controller (Outback FlexMax 80) and connecting my ZHC equalizer on Saturday I decided to check the reading of the batteries Battery 1 – 12.2v Battery 2 – 12.2v Battery 3 – 12.2v Battery 4 – 10.2v The inverter I have been using has a maximum charge voltage of 53.4v (13.35v per battery) and a maximum charging current of 11.4A. It took me over 10 months before I realized the inverter was undercharging the batteries basically because we had PHED light for at least 21hrs a day throu out last till January this year when we now go weeks without having light. So the inverter neva really went beyond 50% DOD. Infact it was on this thread I learnt that 53.4v is not a good charge voltage. From my little knowledge of batteries I already know most of those batteries are sulphocated and may need to be changed soonest. Since I powered my Outback CC midday Saturday till today Monday I haven’t seen more than 6.2KWH which I consider quite poor for a 3.6kw setup. (Thoug there wasn’t any sunshine throu out Sunday in ph). But today Monday was all sunny and that was when the CC recorded 6.3kwh which less than 45% efficiency rating of the panels. The incoming Amps didn’t go beyond 20Amps. I am beginning to doubt the rated output of the solar panel coz I was expecting at least 65-70% efficiency. I will be doing a string by string test tomorrow and Wednesday just to be sure.
Now I bought the Inverter and the solar panels (early last year 2017) from a known solar dealer here in Port Harcourt who came highly recommended. He is always on radio talking about renewable energy, in my office he is one of the main contractor for solar installations. After I noticed the inverter was charging at 53.4v I decided to engage him on the issue. I was both amazed and disappointed coz the guy is both empty and unknowledgeable compared the folks here on Nairaland. After much question I deduced that he just went to China and shipped in lots of solar panels and inverters. He isn’t even aware his inverters undercharge batteries.
My advice to those who want to go into RE to do a lot of research and triple check anything they want to buy. Check for reviews for any product they want to buy to be sure. Contact the guys here, there are far more knowledgeable that all these clowns masquerading as solar expert. I don’t blame anybody who refuses to go into RE coz its quite heart breaking spending millions and within a year or 18 months everything fails.
My Solution: (I am learning the hard way) I will be changing my inverter to a mustpower 5kva inverter (30a charger) I will gradually phase out all the batteries I’m currently using and increase it to 48v x 400Ah by July If the solar panels are also found wanting they too will be phased out gradually before February next year. My goal is to achieve at 75% freedom from PHEd and their nuisance. |

Battery going out of sync is the biggest challenge to series batteries. I am changing the configuration of a client system to 12v bcoz of this. For me the max system voltage should be 24v..best is 12v. NiyiOmoIyunade: Oga KieKie I will wait for hard evidence to confirm if the 12v 2kw units get up to 50-70a. All my checking for the units I have access to max out at 45a.
It would be interesting what one could do with a 12v 70a charging source - I might just replace a large series connected battery bank with parallel connections and use the 2kw units as the main charge source.
With 12v parallel connections, I largely eliminate the issue of batteries going out of sync with each other. |

Flow batteries (fuel cells) are like ur internal combustion engines that uses the chemical energy of a fuel to thermally produce mechanic energy by the controlled combustion of the fuel in a closed chamber but only that fuel cells convert chemical energy directly to electrical energy making them more efficient and with a potential of 80% efficiency however material is still consumed. Though a solar system can be incorporated to electrolyse water into hydrogen that can be stored and used but the initial investment is high. Lithium on the other hand makes energy harness and storage easier. I consider these systems as perpetual motion machine of probably the 4th kind pranil: in fact for stationary storage applications, it is well accepted fact that future belongs to flow batteries. The lithiums currently cannot exceed 1kW to 4 KWH ratio making them pretty costly for low power demand longer duration applications. While flow batteries have limitless energy storage capacity depending on storage volume available - mainly due to the fact that the fundamental difference between conventional batteries and flow cells is that energy is stored as the electrode material in conventional batteries but as the electrolyte in flow cells.
Questions is will flow batteries development quickly catch up OR LITHIUM remains the king due to EV applications and recycling for the next decade

I keep saying that Nigeria's biggest challenge is population control! How can the standard of living progressively improve when the rate of wealth generation is far lower than population growth. In sane societies like China, the strength of population has been turned to massive productive workforce taking the world economy by storm! Nigeria's over bloated population is not actively engaged in production hence the negative effects of scarcity which are kidnapping, robbery, terrorism, corruption etc is the bane of our society. As an immediate action, the govt should implement population control laws of maximum 2 children per family cos at this rate of our population growth... our standard of living is not likely to improve appreciably versus other countries of similar age |
