In as much as I hate generators, a small gen should always be available even if not used to act as backup for situations like this. The cost of running a small gen few days in a year far outweighs the cost of having enough batteries to covers for many days. GeorgeD1: this is one of the major challenges of solar - cloudy/rainy weather. however, with proper system sizing, it can be easily overcome. that is why the rule of thumb for an ideal battery bank size is 3 days minimum backup. this takes care of days when there is less than adequate sunshine, rainy weather and total blackout just like dapsyra experienced in abuja recently. but as always, the drawback seems to be cost. who can afford to buy so many number of batteries to achieve that level of autonomy? and what about the solar panels that goes with it? too many questions but few answers... |

Congratulations. Decent system. I am impressed how you are able to achieve appreciable longevity from those batteries bigrovar: Just finally moved to my own modest house. Decided to finally take a chill pill on the race for the higher wattage and settle for efficiency on the consumption side. This allowed me to set aside some funds for putting a roof over my head all glory be to God. My 1.84kw panel is all the electricity I need for now. I will connect to the grid once am done with some finishing touches to the house.. I generate enough to provide me 24 hours electricity that meets every basic needs refrigeration, laundry, light, TV, kitchen stuff.
The house runs on LED spot lights the highest being the single 12w kitchen lights. Over night amps draw before sun rise is 75AH from a 24v 200ah battery. I had time regig my setup.. Power drill was a life saver. |

Kudos and thanks for sharing. What do you intend to do about the shading considering the fact that you will be loosing significant power due to d shade. mank1234: In the tradition of the house, I'm sharing my very first installation.
This is my first dealing (3 weeks ago) with kiekie1 and he didn't disappoint. Paid for items on Saturday and by Monday it was delivered to Akwa Ibom. Was initially skeptical about the brand but with his assurance, I must say the brand - Foresolar is beyond expectation.
325W foresolar * 2 for a total of 650W wired in series. 60A tristar MPPT controller with no meter 60A and 32A circuit breaker - wired such that if the battery is disconnected the solar is disconnected as well through the 60A breaker. The 32A breaker is solely for solar. Chinese meter is for monitoring power into or out of the battery. The monitoring for the controller will be by Ethernet. The router is yet to arrived.
The attached images were taken at 4:20pm today. The total current drawn by inverter as fridge, tv and fan are on is 11.2A. So in essence the current from controller is 14.9A. The setup still manage to pump 1A to 7A during the period it is shaded due to the panel location. |

Oga.. You had to summon all the gods to answer a simple question kiekie1: Oga Niyi, Good morning , I hail ooo ! All this your long thesis sef ... All I said was simplified , you have been to my place and I have also been to your crib and I must say that in all solar calculations we have losses we must contend with ! Question you asked and expecting raw figures has already been answered by Oga George D few pages ago when he detailed about "Oversizing your PV array" against rainy days ceteris paribus & that was a major reason why he gets charge current even when his panels are dusty ! Juo also gave you some tweaks which most will say its unethical to load an mppt above its required wattage . we must not type about personal experiment or tweaks which worked for us here as it might not work for Mr B due to factors surrounding his mppt brand etc ... Juo has also mentioned it in past but most will always argue its wrong but i just smile ... I discuss better with most who engage me in qualitative chats about their PV yield . Richmond will also tell you that "its most of us day to day business and we feed our family on this" .. In summary, I replied my total PV array as MAX 1600w "loss inclusive" as I have always been a 24v fan like Oga Durodee and utilise my panels to peak ! I get 50-62a cc always and most sceptic pals will still tell you that your mppt might blow up on the short run due to operating at max , over heating et al but mine smiles daily at max .. Cheer's |

You can use the 1000VA. You can get 6 units of the 500AH batteries 2V or 200AH 12V x 2. You can charge with solar and mains....thanks me later ceaser: Hello here.
Ideas are needed on the preference for battery set up for an inverter meant to power a 195litres thermocool deep freezer (I honestly can't figure out the wattage consumption). A 12volt setup or 24volt set up?
Personally and from a non-professional viewpoint and understanding, I will prefer a 12volt set up to avoid the problems of having to replace both batteries even when it is one of the batteries that go bad. A 12volt, higher amperage set up will definitely last longer but with lower financial implications when the battery bank needs to be replaced since you will only have to deal with one battery set in parallel rather than in series.
Also what is the minimum inverter capacity that you will recommend? I have spares of pure sine wave 1000va and 750va lying around. Will any of these suffice?
Professional opinions please. Thank you. |

But then is this not the beauty of experiment? To see the outcomes of different hypothesis or trials. Let him conclude and feedback the house... Who knows NiyiOmoIyunade: Oga Sinistrian.
Say we agree that the Fangpusun Blue Solar has the superior MPPT algorithm, you can only get worse results by feeding the superior DC output of the Fangpusun into a inferior DC Buck Converter (essentially what the Axpert is in this scenario). The Axpert will not suddenly become wonderful because it is receiving input from a good MPPT CC - your solar panels are already an excellent DC power source and I see only subpar results as the outcome of this experiment because per the laws of physics you won't be able to create additional power out of nothing - you can only convert from one form to another and there will always be conversion losses even in the best of circumstances.
While you can feed other DC sources into an MPPT CC, they are optimised to work with solar panels as the DC input and not necessarily any and every other DC source.
You need to be careful also not to damage the Blue Solar or Axpert as they present a variable and unnatural load profle to each other while attempting to do their work..
You just might release the magic smoke from your precious equipment and end this experiment in an ugly manner.
Just connect the output of the FangPusun Blue Solar to your batteries per the original design and you should be good. |

Most times these all in one packages are not durable and due to complexity a small failure of a component can render the entire unit useless. Remember those all in one DVD, TV, radio set, touchlight? They don't last 4llerbuntu: I disagree.
As much as you have very good points about these pre-made All in One setups quality wise, completely dismissing them is disingenuous.
And I'm not surprised, I've read people dismiss Tesla Powerwall the same way on this thread.
Are you also going to claim Tesla Powerwall is crap tier 3 components?
A lot of posters here are either technicians, businessmen dealing in inverter products or just savvy DIY folks who have an interest in the technology.
So your views are understandable
But you are in the extreme minority. .000000000000000000000000000001 of the population.
The average person does not have the time, or wherewithal for all this things. The only solution for them is this pre-made setups.
And the only way solar/inverter will become mainstream is through these all in ones. |

Weight is same range just a superior use of nano technology. Price is just a little more the LiFeO4 zellfoxx: Already too much. I feel anything over 10,000 cycles at 80% DOD is more than fine in this current age if its to be cycled daily, which i feel its what we use for now. I will recommend you add 2 more panels so that you do 2*2 configuration. if I assume you are harvesting 50% of installed capacity averagely, current will be 1200*0.5/26 =24A. Where 26 is d battery voltage and 1200 is the array capacity davodyguy: Hello my people.
I need advice
I want to change my inverter, whilst also being conscious about price.
I've been offered Microteck 2kva Pure sine wave inverter at a good price, which is 24v and better than my 1000watts china Inverter at home now.
I also intend to add one more panel, to take my system to 3*300watts Mono panel from the 2*300watts
CC remains 40amps Mppt
Like how many amps will drop into the batteries after upgrade? Max presently is 32amps that drops with strong sun.
Thanks my people |

I am afraid you will have to buy a separate mppt NiyiOmoIyunade: I would say it just means you would have to make the best of whatever power source is available at any point in time.
The grid would guarantee you 15A into the batteries - solar would be the net of total power generated per time less power consumed by loads and inverter self consumption. |

Cost of production in Nigeria is crazy due to unavailability of power to run plants and as such you would have to produce you own power which is aboutb35% of production cost. You may need to import some machinery and materials like lead. Competing against China is like trying to eradicate cockroaches earthrealm: an idea popped into my head today. the feasibility of setting up a smf/agm battery manufacturing plant in nigeria.we have the population, so demand is assured once the product is good. still researching on start up cost and other stuff.i wonder why the rich folk in nigeria hvnt done such long ago.
the automobile industry in nigeria is huge, with chinko batteries crapping out every 1yr or 2. a made in naija battery that cud last 2 to 4yrs would sell fast, then the solar /RE batteries
