Politics › Nigeria Army General, Others Have Been Indicted For Shiites Massacre by DobleO7(op): 5:14pm On Jul 19, 2016 |
The General Officer Commanding the Nigerian Army’s 1st Division, Adeniyi Oyebade, a major general, authorized last December’s military operation that massacred at least 347 members of the Shi’a Muslim group in Zaria, and should be prosecuted, a judicial commission of inquiry into the killings, has said in its final report. The commission of inquiry, set up by the Kaduna State government, indicted Mr. Oyebade and other senior army officers for the attack. The panel’s report was submitted to Gov. Nasir el-Rufai on Friday, but its details are yet to be made public. The killings drew worldwide condemnations, and several investigative reports said hundreds of people were killed by government troops and secretly buried in a mass grave in Zaria, Kaduna State. http://independentnig.com/2016/07/19/judicial-panel-indicts-nigerian-army-general-others-for-zaria-massacre-of-shiitesNow that we are hearing this I wonder what those APC never-say-never supporters will have to say. I remember them stating categorically that killing of the shiites was JUSTIFIED. There are several other situations where the Federal Government takes a wrong decision, you see them hailing such a decision. For us to move forward, we as a people must change our attitude towards one another and the country.

Politics › Re: Falana Goofed On No Absolute Immunity Submission, Ozekhome says by DobleO7: 12:42pm On Jul 04, 2016 |
AntiWailer: See forget Politics .
FALANA is very correct. Without just ranting, let me explain with examples.
One of his point is that the immunity does not cover electoral crimes.
Check meaning of Absolute first before you jump on the argument.
Synonyms of ABSOLUTE It is not a law term it means synonyms: complete, total, utter, out-and-out, outright, entire, perfect, pure, decided;
Try not to see everything in the prism of PDP so that whatever analogy you present is assimilated by readers without sensing bias. Someone might similarly say that Falana is an APC lawyer, therefore his submission tilts in favour of APC. This is my humble "LOKOMAPI".
The above makes the STATEMENT a STATEMENT of FACT.
1. Buhari was in court for his certificate issue cos it affects his election.
2. Ikpeazu was in court because of tax papers that affect his election
3. Gani Fawehinmi took Tinubu to court independently over Toronto Certificate forgery.
4. Sitting governors are tackled from Tribunal to supreme Court despite immunity.
1, 2 and 3 are not electoral petitions. They are suits against people who enjoy immunity but the suit was entertained because it can be categorised as an electoral crime.
So we dnt need a PHD in Law before you know WHAT falana is saying is simply the truth.
"No absolute immunity in our Law. If there is, Ikpeazu wont be running helter skelter, looking for court injunction"
Mike is a PDP lawyer and infact he is currently defending Fayose.
So I dnt expect him to take another position.
It is only victims of headlines that will scream. |

Freegift75: Nigerians, pls don't crucify me! We need to set our priority right. Presently, Nigeria is battling with economic crisis and I don't think most of the recommendations in the 2014 confab report are suitable for now. We need to subdue the economic challenges first.
* Imagine, 27 states out of 36 could not pay workers wages and we are proposing 54.
It means 89,000 federal civil servants will be increased to about 150,000 all at the expense of our dwindling economy.
2014 confab report is superb but not implement able at this moment. The implementation will create chaos, compound Nigeria economic challenges.
What Nigerians need now is not more states or state. Police. We need
* atleast 18hrs electricity supply * A bag of rice for N5000 * A litre of fuel for N50 * Housing Mortgage of standard 3bedroom flat for N2M to be paid for 20yrs (fraction of Minimum wage) * Minimum wage N45,000 * Free health care service * Free Tertiary Education
We need to reason well. I agree with you that we do not need more states at this time when existing ones are finding it hard to pay salaries. Lets watch and see the outcome of their reviews and recommendations. However, it is a great news. |

That is Nigeria for you. He actually lead the counter coup that ousted Aguyi Ironsi and his plan initially was to pull the North of Nigeria. |

Ovamboland: Kids always reason as kids, similar situation in 1983 the government had declared austerity measures just as Iweala did in 2014. Oil prices just crashed from over $40 to less than $10 and imaru Dikko had completed his rice heist of over $1bn amongst others just like Dasuki in 2014. Wheat for bread was largely imported then as it is today. With dwindling export income and insistence by many that today's government forgives and forget looted funds is it not foolishness to turn around and demand the economy must remain the same after such looting Not justifying looting though but corruption, looting has been with us from time immemorial. Mind you every successive coup by the military had been because of corruption. I think this government is actually fighting corrupt people and not corrupt system and institutions which means corruption would still fester. |

isbish: May God continue to guide you PMB. We are solidly behind you. God know why he keeps bringing u to us especially just after the nation is always at the brink of economic collapse. God never makes mistakes, He brought you to us cos HE knows you are what we need to move on as a nation and a people under the claws of Bad leaders of the last administration. By making Boko Haram alone less stronger and so incapacitated to launch attacks therby making people feel more safe from Boko Haram is a great one. What's life without security and to live in fear all the time?
As a people, we are safer today under you from BH, it will take people to ggo to North East to see how you are appreciated for bringing peace to them. Even we in Abuja are safer and as such, ride on sir. When peace is achieved and terror cleared, development albeit gradual but steady shall come. God bless PMB. I had rather buy rice for 14k and fuel for 145 and feel secure than to live in fear of being bombed by some terrorist while at the motor park like so many that lost their lives in the last administration. I feel more secured today under PMB from BH, that alone gives me peace and I know its time, things will be good, I see it, I feel it for God gave us PMB and God never makes a mistake. GOD bless u PMB...just ride on sir, we are solidly behind you. So security matters only to you and the North East, any other part of the country doesn't concern you. The security of Nigerians from Fulani Herdsmen isn't security. |

Aspireahead: I still maintain that the problem with Nigeria is not necessarily the political class, but the herd of suffering followers who defend their opulent lifestyles and sanguinary proclivities.
We Nigerians tend to even forget quickly, maybe because things are tough for us. we have all moved on from the CBN employment scam, FIRS employment scam and believe me...we would have forgotten about this one by next week. Finally, let Buratai resign and a full fledged investigation be conducted...he is in no way bigger than the other former service chiefs who are standing trial. I still believe he can afford the house, but I don't believe anyone who served in the last administration as director of procurement in a corruption ridden institution like the Nigerian Army is clean.
As for the army, allow Butatai and his family to respond...you are in no way privy to all of his finances You shall continue to Aspire Ahead. Do you know that a lot of people on Nairaland and in Nigeria at large are either ill-informed, misinformed or uninformed. Especially this particular generation, I don't know where it is heading to. The most important thing is to ensure that all projects with meaningful impact on the generality of the people are completed. We shouldn't play politics with everything. It will not more us forward. @carboblanko. I totally agree with you that Government is suppose to be a continuum but in Nigeria the reverse is the case. Reason why we have so many abandon projects littering the whole place. Now when someone on this forum tries to attribute any success to the last administration and deservedly so, I don't have qualms. We have been made to understand that the last administration did not do anything and that PDP destroyed Nigeria in the 16 years they held sway. |

bugzy84: The biggest mistakes GEJ made in changing his military top brass were replacing Admiral Ibrahim as CDS with ACM Badeh and appointing Lt Gen Minimah as COAS and decimating the Courses senior to Minimah.
However the Admiral forgets his allegiance to Nigeria is superior to his allegiance to his Commander in Chief. How was the appointment of Badeh and Minimah a mistake? You carefully and deliberately didn't see the point he raised which is in bold as one of the reasons they failed which I believe is even the MAIN issue. And for those shouting break up whenever this happens, know that it doesn't solve any of our internal issues which are worse. As an ND girl I can authoritatively tell you that we are NOT united. Is it the Ishekiris and the Ijaws that will live peacefully together Let's look at my state, there's a serious supremacy battle between the Ibibios, annangs and the Oron people. The Efiks being the most powerful people in Cross River does not go down well with the other over 20 ethnic groups there. So how will an Akwa/Cross country look like? undecided
As for middlebelt, do we need to remind ourselves of the numerous community fights going on there? What about the Christians and other minority tribes in the core North? How will they cope with the overbearing majority of the Hausa/Fulani Muslim community?
The SW may thrive for a little while because of their system of checks and balances and the fact that they have leaders that they collectively recognize and respect. However, Yoruba communities also fight a lot, it will just be a matter of time before they start back st That is the more reason why there is the need for Nigeria to practice of true federalism |
