Lol, your level of reasoning Sha. Have you been to igbinedion that is a private university? Have you heard the lecturers went on strike because of low salary pay? Have you seen the students protest due to non conducive learning environment yet it is private owned.

The federal Universities that are run with students' fees/oil money lack the basic infrastructures for effective learning. All the unis you apply for outside Nig are government owned undecided, but your looters will never allow institution of higher learning to be of that standard.

No need educating you, your age says so.

Just do a little research. Salary of lecturers in Igbenedion or any other private university of your choice amd compare it with the presemt salary of lecturers in government universities.

If you truly do it, you will wonder why your lecturers are on strike, and why lecturers in private universities havent gone on strike yet grin

This generation breeds idiocy.

Stop decieving yourself, ASUU is not the pillar of education of the country.

The university education is not the defination of literacy of a nation. The primary and secondary school education are the most important. They are the pillar of education.

Since your government have negleted those why are u suprised they are about to neglect this. Its only a matter of time

Politics / Re: Emmanuel Osodeke: FG Should Have Used $23m Abacha Loot To Meet ASUU's Demands by dogmart(m): 7:05pm On Aug 31, 2022
othermen:
What ASUU struggle for is that you or yours or majority of Nigerians get a worthy education. The FG rather is willing to invest Nigeria resource in ranches. In Katsina alone #6.2 billion has been released by FG to establish cattle ranches. This is what the federal government is passionate about, not the universities or the state of the universities.

Some say ASUU’s demand is purely self interest. That is purely a misleading assertion.

It’s part of ASUU's demand, a better welfare for its members; but you should know that you'd get better value from a lecturer who can meet his daily needs.

Granting the request to ASUU’s welfare demand will not afford its members a luxury life. Rather, the new demand of ASUU that relates to welfare will still put a professor’s salary in Nigeria federal university at about the same amount of a graduate assistant in any top or middle tier university abroad. Glassdoor put the average salary of graduate assistants in the US at $33,230 which is with the current exchange rate at around #690:$1 over #20.7M annually. Nigeria professors at bar earn about #416,000 monthly which is in the bracket of #4.5M annually. ASUU has suggested to be paid in the bracket of the average salary paid to university lecturers across Africa countries and this new amount for a professor is not even up to 55% of what a graduate assistant earns in the US. Know that a general in Nigeria earn about #3.5M monthly while a major general is #1.5M . Yet ASUU is not demanding for up to these amounts for professors at bar.

All is for the students- to have good facilities & dedicated lecturers & reduce the insane brain drain we are suffered.

ASUU could have an agreement with the government, and request that federal universities become autonomous and so the Federal government don’t have to fund the universities; the running cost of the universities, the salaries of its members will be generated from the school fees of the students. Then in that case, most students would have to pay what is equivalent in private universities. ASUU understands that education still needs to be subsidized, because the masses may not be able to afford it and yet the people will take in hook, line and sinker the narrative that the union is a bunch of unpatriotic lots.

Some argue that the government have shown good faith and committed to some of ASUU’s demand. Again, this is a purely technical lie intended to detract and distract and we have a shameful media willing to peddle and drive the propaganda home so that the derision of ASUU can increase, so that they can be perceived as unpatriotic; when in reality, the whole struggle is to help the nation better equipped with its human resource. The media will do well to be critical about what the posture of FG concerning the issue is. FG hard stance has shown it has no integrity, their refusal to implement past agreements or to comply with collective agreement born as a result of renegotiation with different parties they did set up- such as the FG Briggs led renegotiation committee or before then the FG Munzali led renegotiation committee… all of which further shows their lack of integrity and the news media in Nigeria is mostly complicit in this muddling and putting an axe when the issue should have long be done and resolved. Rather, they would find in the character of this government a bunch of people who align with the dangerous ideology that western education is Haram except for their children. The media rather would perpetuate the lies when they truly know that the strike is not conditioned on payment of withheld salaries. Why are their children studying abroad? Of coz, ours are in shambolic state and can continue to be.

The media has access to what ASUU’s demand actually entails. The FG claims to have met 80% of the demands. ASUU says the FG claim is blatant falsehood. The media then should demand for FG resolutions or actions and compare with what ASUU’s demand are to know who is perpetuating or perpetrating falsehood.

I have only one question.
Since u have compared the government universities to the private universities( and feel privatization of the universities would solve the problem), how much are lecturers in private universities being paid?
Is it more than that of lecturers im government universities?

Believe it or not, when privatization finally happens lecturers will smell pepper! All their excesses will be cut off completely. All the largesse of the corrupt system which they enjoy will be removed.

To sack them sef will be as easy as easy. They know this as fact.

That is the point.

Why strike when you are very aware that the children and wards of the political class rarely school here.

ASUU really has to device another strategy. One that doesn't hurt the students and parents.

They claim to be the best brains in the country. They should be able to do better than keeping the universities in locks and keys; and millions of students at home.

They have to bear in mind that there are educators like them too at the primary and secondary schools too. There are also professionals in engineering, medicine, law etc, that work for the government as well.

I really think that the minds of these lecturers have to be disabused. Primary and secondary schools aren't inferior to the universities. They universities are just a progression of primary and secondary schools. As a matter of fact, if there are educators who should be doing this, it should be those at the very foundational stages of knowledge acquisition - primary and secondary.

In my thinking, educators at the primary and secondary schools are even more important. Have we wondered why with an SSCE one can become the president of the country?

Everyone needs a pay rise, in the midst of a global economy that is biting so hard. I really think that ASUU should shift some grounds. As valuable as their role is, they aren't the only services sector in the country.

Being a lecturer or academic is a choice. That doesn't make anyone superior to the other. I recently learned that government made some offers of increments - something in the neighborhood of N30k and N60k, which they vehemently rejected.

ASUU matter don taya me.

God bless you. Maybe the entire sectors under the Nigeriam government should go on strike, since they are all facing poor funding.

Are they the only one?

Now lets take a critical look at the matter.

If $10m was stolen in 1993, and not invested. But just kept in a bank. What is the value or worth of that same money today?

1993 to 2022 is 29years.

If u take a critical look at things u will know that we are in deep shit.
Massive loss!

The naira to dollar ratio cannot cover the magnitude of the mess.

What a million dollar would buy in 1993, a hundred million dollar may not be able to buy same today.

Money kept in bank depreciates over years. Not to talk of a 29years span.
Investment / Did Nigeria Make Profit Or Loss From The Recovered Abacha's Loot? by dogmart(m): 8:32pm On Aug 29, 2022
Over few years now, Nigerians have been awed with the filtering news of bogus sums of money which was reportedly stolen/looted by the past military head of state General abacha, and kept in several offshore accounts.

With the periodic recovery of the "loot", many Nigerians have been outrightly happy and cant seem to hide their joy, considering the fact that Nigeria is presently in some serious financial mess at the moment, and we believe the fund is much needed at this moment.

Many even say Abacha should be celebrated and applauded for "saving" for us ahead of time. grin

Some went on to analyse the fact that he "saved" the billions im dollars when dollars was 88naira in 1993, and now dollars is over 500naira. Hence it was a very smart move grin

After taking careful thought of the matter i asked the economic question;

"Did Nigeria make profit or loss?"

Processing is the way to go for this particular case, as well as many other agricultural production.

refrigeration might not be economically feasible for now.

Harvest in mass daily and dry using dryers, (Dont wait for sun) Continue with other stages of processing, package and store. with this you will have next to zero wastage.

so to say the fact as it is, the government can't singularly input trillions into education and neglect other sectors. That is why forever this strikes wlll continue to exist, until we come to reality of the situation

So if it goes quite high, the ppl will b mostly illiterate and human capacity will reduce and den economy will crumble

smiles. You think University education is goverment's duty? and that developed countries give free university education? please do your research better.

Why do we hear students owing hundreds of thousands of dollars as educational/students loan that must be paid back after graduation in so called developed countries? Maybe u dont know. standard University management is very expensive, that is very reason realistically Tuition fees are expensive.

It is not compulsory for the goverment to shoulder responsibility of University education if they are not realistically financially capable. what is important is maintaining and ensuring a good standard. What is the point in having thousands of poorly educated graduates( who cannot defend their certificate) yearly. Graduates who only went to school to earn a degree for "degree sake" . and who have no point being in the university in the first place.

They can only gve scholarship to high flying students who have distinguished themselves and who the goverment is sure will be an asset ro the nation. Give scholarship and tie them down to Nigeria for at least 30years. so that give back in form of research and inventions

it is high time we face reality.
