GodMode:Exactly. When you look at hard fact, southwest doesn't need Nigeria. Southwest contributes far more than they gets to people they are not related or share values with. Beggars believe. |
mmsen:your post is out of sync with my post? Anyways, Cornwall as well as many others, has been crying for an independence from England for donkey years, does that mean they would be granted? No, because majority of them are in the minorities. Forget about the past as there are many international constitutions that governs the right to a secession. Although international law like geneva acts are, in principle, neutral with regard to secession, there are elements associating the unilateral process of State creation with international law. Hence, though there is neither a right nor a denial of secession under international law, each process of secession is associated by certain elements that help depict (if not the legality, at least) the illegality of some cases. However, most of these laws are against a rejection of a call for a secession by the majority of the population. A right to a secession is on a country by country basis and are mostly influenced by the founding constitution. For instance, the union between all the stated in America was as complete, as perpetual, and as indissoluble as the union between the original States. There was no place for reconsideration or revocation, except through revolution or through consent of the states. This isn't the case for Nigeria or countries like United Kingdom. Hence, why Scotland was allowed to have a referendum last year. Heck, even though the law makes a secession by any states in U.S. absolutely pointless. Yet It took 150000 votes in 2012 for texas to activate their right to a secession, of which was rightly turned down by the federal court. Bear in mind that it is the majority that counts. In Spain any polls on sovereignty must be held nationally hence why they have been repeatedly shut down by Spanish parliament. Go and check Spanish law, the only way they can trigger the clause is for the majority of the Spanish people to vote in favour of a referendum or call for it. Nigerian law is not as water tight as those countries I have mentioned. This has been said countless times by many people. The point is there are now many laws that bounds the right to a secession unlike in he past where countries like Russia can just hold countries against their wishes. There should be a call for the revaluation of the union going forward. I know majority of African countries are regional based rather than parliamentary or federal. So I would imagine this also holds true for Nigeria to an extent. Nigeria doesn't have a solid case against a secession by international standards especially when you factor the things like different tribes, religion, marginalisation etc. Major tribe Yoruba, Igbo or hausa/fulani have he right to demand a referendum. In conclusion, those posts of yours is irrelevant and doesn't mean a secession is impossible if that was the intention of your post. |
1stola:Listen, I am not here for pissin contest with you kids. Say any crap you want, you will end up with a bruised ego and confidence. Get off my mention. |

YOLA—Adamawa State government says it will require a whooping N200 billion to reconstruct, rehabilitate and put in proper shape the facilities, private residences and other properties destroyed by Boko Haram in 11 of the 21 local government areas of the state. The state government also disclosed that 7 out of the 11 local governments in the state were completely overran by the insurgents in which no fewer than 600,000 (six hundred thousand) people were displaced and are now taking refuge in Chad, Cameroun, Niger and other neighbouring states in the North East sub region. Governor Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla disclosed this on Thursday while hosting Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who was at the NYSC Orientation camp of the Internally Displaced persons, IDPs on an assessment visit. While enumerating challenges faced by Adamawa state government, Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla, noted that the amount was arrived at following assessment by the state government. He called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency deploy anti bomb experts to diffuse the number of land mines and bombs planted by the insurgents before they left, adding that many people could not farm for the fear that they may be killed by hidden bombs in the process. In his remark, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo assured the IDPs that the Federal Government will soon address insurgency as all mechanisms have been put in place to achieve that. Osinbajo added that due to his concern to address insurgency, President Muhammadu Buhari immediately after he was sworn in, ordered the immediate relocation of Nigeria’s Military command and control center to Borno and Adamawa so as to completely deal with the problem. He said that Adamawa state government has raised a fundamental issue which the Federal Government cannot overlook. Osinbajo stated that because of the concern of President Muhammadu Buhari for the displaced people, and in line with the party’s campaign promises, he was directed to visit the affected states to see how the displaced people are faring with the aim of resettling them to their various communities. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/adamawa-needs-n200bn-to-reconstruct-facilities-destroyed-by-boko-haram/ |
[s] xakakes:[/s] I don't have time for stupidd trolls. |
fitzmayowa:True, but there are some critical positions you need to be balanced. There are many positions I am worried about one of which has to do with the census. If we all fold our arms and let the northerners put themselves in those positions we would be susceptible to rigging. I mean how can you trust a region that still maintain kano is more populated than lagos. People are not thinking beyond to see the implications of some of these appointments. |
fitzmayowa:Indeed. Let's be realistic do you actually think they can perform fairly without an ounce of bias? |
fitzmayowa:Well, that is a common theme with each appointments on nl. Don't you worry, nl believes they will be fair to each region, so no need to panic. |
I don't agree with the author. I think the northerners are the most suitable people for the job. In addition, he need someone he can trust for such a sensitive job and not a mere southerner who are not trustworthy. *Sarcarsm *In all seriousness, I genuinely hope they would serve the country in fairness and with dignity. |
egift:I don't care too much if it does or doesn't. If the citizens can be stupid enough not to aggressively demand for a better life and reform so why should I worry too much? Nigerians are short sighted and they don't seem to like themselves too much. This is a fact for the supposedly giant of Africa. 1 Nigeria has one of the highest unnatural death statistics in the world due to road accident, boko haram, work hazard etc. 2. Very high poverty rate. 3. Very low human development index 4. Very high corruption 5. Very high crime rate etc Yet you are kidding yourself that you are the giant of Africa . Most people would rather they were born in small countries like Seychelles, instead of Nigeria. Anyways, I admire your optimism or dare I say delusion. |
egift:If this kinda mistrust, ethnic bias, religious violence, tribal intolerance you guys are experiencing continues then I feel pity for your children. Nigeria cannot last with this current structures. Giant of Africa my foot. |
Is there any sane person who still thinks Nigeria is better off as one? Considering SW is the key to the integration of Nigeria, I would like to know their reasoning for supporting such a dysfunctional country. If the northern region was an employee in a company, they would've been sacked long time ago for being unproductive, too expensive to maintain, violent with different goals and values. So my question is, 1 is there any economic benefits to this integration? 2. Social benefits? 3. Political? This would never happen in Europe or America. I find it interesting that it is the yorubas living in foreign countries demanding better terms for the people of SW. |
brodalikeme:The best thing is for the southerners to leave before this get out of hand. Leave their elite to deal with the mess caused by their selfishness. |
Gosh.. our sympathy goes to the northerners at the wrong end of this attacks. Any southerners still in this region has him or herself to blame. Never thought Nigeria would be worse than Somalia. |
I hope they can generate enough income that will enable them to agree to fiscal federalism. |
Jonathan did more harm than good to us. Was there any major contribution to the east? |
I agree. Confidence is really low now in Nigeria. |
Stupid question |
redsconsult:Nigeria is loosing a lot more in stock market alone partly due to the instability of the current administration. |
