PoliticsNorthern Nigeria Cannot Make Progress Without Heavy Investment In Education by Dollyak(op): 8:17pm On Jul 02, 2015
Northern states need to jointly make massive investments in the education if the region hopes to make progress in the sector, says Senator Shehu Sani. Sani, a senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, said this when he visited Kaduna National Library. According to him there is an "education emergency" that must be tackled, adding that the Northern region has remained educationally inferior compared to the South of the country.
"What is needed here is how the northern states can come together to tackle this issue of education emergency," Sani said. "Kaduna State and the North in general cannot make progress without heavy investment in education."The senator noted that the Boko Haram insurgency and political elites have destroyed the educational system in the North. "There is low level of enrolment in primary, secondary and post education levels.
"There is also general relative lack of interest in education in the North compared to the South."There is low level of investment by northern state governments and previous national government in areas of education in the North," Sani called for concerted action to change the perception that Northerners do not want education.
"Due to the insurgency bedeviling the North-eastern part of the country, the image of the North and northern people nationally and internationally is an image of people that are opposed or resistant to western education." He promised to support the Kaduna National Library in a bid to promote

PoliticsRe: My Take On The Northern Politics Of PMB - Cramjones by Dollyak(f): 7:22pm On Jul 02, 2015
cramjones:
President Mohammadu Buhari seems to have made all appointments so for to his northern brothers with the exception of Femi Adesina. Well, that is what it seems like. Secondly, there is a Northen domination already in the House of Rep and Senate - Bukola Saraki (Fulani), Dogara (North), Ndume (North) etc. I can place my bet that the following ministries will be "given" to the North:

- Ministry of Petroleum
-Ministry of Mining and Steel
- Ministry of Finance
- Ministry of works
- Ministry of Power
- Cheif of Army Staff
-Chief of Defense Staff

I can state with 99% certainty that those ministries will be given to the North. Am I worried? Not at all. Though PMB may want to favor those that are loyal and those he can't trust, he can never ever compromise competence for region.

Finally, the most important thing we must note is that these people he is appointed are all Nigerians first before being Northerners. Let us all embrace competence and give PMB and the people he has appointed a chance!

-CramJones
Do you actually believe the bolder part? I don't want to call you naive but..... majority of Nigerian's loyalty is firstly with their tribe/religion then the country. The only exception are the SW people to an extent. Your post contradicts the bolder part anyways.

Listen, no one is stupidd here. As someone who has been to many countries, i can authoritatively tell you no citizens/tribe would allow a marginalization of their people. This is even more alarming when you consider that southerners are a lot more educated than the northerners. In addition they generate more than 80% of the country's gdp. The Scottish people has 59 parliamentary seat out of 650 seat yet, the English people are calling for a reduction in their seat allocation to reflect their population and their contribution to the country. There are countless example all over the world, so don't make it seem like people are stupidd for getting angry at this.

You have no point there. GEJ appointed a South south person whom he had confidence in. Buhari is a northerner and should appoint somebody he has confidence in, a northerner like himself
Which begs the question, why are we still together if we can't trust ourselves? It's becoming too forced.

I pity the average Nigerian futures.
If true then ~ $400 million is a lot for any politician in a country with a per capital of $3k(Even less for his region).

This is when you know a governor that is intelligent and exposed. I am really impressed by his potential. Improving transportation alone could increase lagos gdp by more than 25% within the next four years. More measures are obviously needed, but this is a great idea.

I have read the ignorant chants of ethnic champions here on this appointment. Too sad that most of our youths are unclear thinkers.

Is she an INEC commissioner? Yes!
Has she become the substantive INEC boss? NO!

She is an INEC commissioner, one of the very few not retiring before September. She is acting; yet our bigots won't see that.

The retired buffoon of Bayelsa state led the crudest era of cronyism, nepostism and corruption since our independence, these same people hailed him a messiah.

I have no fears for Nigeria today; I have deep fears for her tomorrow when these anonymous ignorant youths will emerge anywhere as leaders.
You guys keep expressing your fears about Nigeria's future not knowing things can never be as bad as it was in the olden days. I am not young either(late 80s), but I often ask myself how the older generations stood up to rubbish from the politicians in the olden days without doing nothing about it. There is nothing to be proud about, as far as the older generation is concern because they didn't and are not leaving a high standard of governorship behind for the newer ones. There are thousands of things people did or put up with which the newer ones will never do or allow.
The new generations are smarter but not yet wiser of which would come with age. If you are talking about a decrease in morality then I might agree.

yeah i have lived in america for a while in the past till i left and i have met many white americans. i cant stand them mothafukaz man. loud mouth and arrogant. russians ? i cant stand them mothafukaz too. they are too rough and violent and dangerous. i just dont like white people period lmao

as per southerners ? listen i am attracted to people with class and dignity. i dont like people who live for their lusts and desires. i dont like show-offs. i dont like ostentatious people. i dont like people who are obsessed with wealth. i dont like people who like to pose. i dont like people who buy flashy things. i dont like people who drive flashy cars when poverty surrounds them. i dont like women who have no dignity or class or standards but whose standards is money. and for all this reason i cant stand southerners. they are all rascals and potential thieves and lustful.
You just don't like people enjoying life grin. Each to their own I guess. equally, I don't like injustice(morally bankrupt sharia laws for the poor), hypocrites, tribal killers, selfish people(religion intolerance), power hungry attitudes most of which are synonymous with the northerners. Please get some perspectives.
The idea that anyone who enjoys life somehow lacks dignity or humility is laughable. We only live once so we might as well enjoy it as reasonable as possible.

Nairaland is a great place to assess the level of reasoning of the average EDUCATED Nigerian. They're supposed to be better than the uneducated ones. But what do I see? Very ignorant people. Many people who are knowledgeable have left or are not as active. Everything is about tribe/region/religion. I have said if my family member who I know to be incompetent is to get govt appointment and my opinion is sought, I won't approve. If the whole govt is from one family( not one section or state) I don't care as long as they're assessed to be appropriate for their roles and would make my life better and won't infringe on my rights or cheat me.

After Nixon resigned the US Presidency, President Ford gave a speech in which he said "ours is a nation of laws, not of men..." Conversely, Nigeria is a nation of men, not of laws. Look at what difference it makes in our relative lives
You are seeing things in black and white. Gosh, I would imagine the reason why people are angry was because the northerners wouldn't accept such a thing without throwing an hissyfit.
Put it this way, do you think the white British or American people would accept a cabinet dominated by the minorities I.e blacks in usa or Scottish in England? People are still crying for a reduction of Scottish seat in the Westminster parliament...
The point is, the total allocated positions are not a reflection of the education and population demographics of the country. Ideally, it shouldn't be a problem but I don't blame people for voicing their concern especially when you know northerners wouldn't accept such a thing. Nigeria is still very tribalistic and going by the history a cabinet dominated by a certain tribe tends to get an unfair advantage. You don't need to look far to know this holds true for the northerners.
Please come back in the real world and stop seeing things in black and white. Whatever qualifications you have in the north, I am sure you can find three times equally qualified personnel in the southern region.

Their quietness and their subtle nature is what they will keep using to fool the southerners. I am sure the southerners would be a lot more quiet if they were in their positions.
You remind me of those who prefer the quiet Russians to the more upront Americans. The former is very quiet, secretive, more classy in an aristocratic sense but cold hearted and dangerous.

Na wao! Just forget that we're trying and just slam the efforts of everyone who architected, built, and maintains the campus. No "nice effort, be inspired", just straight up "you suck". Wow.

Anyways, I give the love garden a 6. Dem try sha, but it can definitely be spruced up, like you were saying with appropriate flower beds, etc.

I like the cut grass, the benches, the interlocked tiles, the sculptures, the fact there was no litter, and also the solar street lights. I liked it as I wish more credit would be given considering the resources.
Seems I have unintentionally struck some nerves. I do appreciate their effort but I believe we can do better. A little bit of 'better presentation' doesn't hurt. I will advise them to do more research on horticultural technologies to keep up to date with the modern ways of presentation.

My point is, why do u think there's is better? Or how it should be done?

I am not against using something foreign as long as it's useful and there re no alternatives locally.

But when u start feeling that how they do it is how it should be done or they re always right, then that's mental slavery!
I am talking about presentation and you are talking about mental slavery huh The flowers are not properly done. In addition, there are better flowers in Nigeria that are more appropriate for such an environment. This is about presentation and creating am environment that gives a lasting impression. We should strive to be the best and create the best. We have lots of different flowers and plants that are a lot more beautiful than those in the western world, we need to utilise them as well as build a more inspiring structures.

Nigerian buildings and environment are so uninspiring.
