He was in church when he made this statement, if you can decipher the whole things, you would understand how the vice president has been working immensely towards the growth of this nation's economy and betterment of this country. He urges the youth to be more creative and hardworking not for the development of the country alone but for ourselves...
Fine. In my opinion, the only message that is relevant is the personal development. Preaching that the whole country should obey God is a waste of time and you also know it..
He needs to lobby for a law that enforce this change of behaviors and attitude of both politicians and fellow Nigerians. He hasn't said what other Old/dead Pastors haven't said since the creation of the nation....

Your views are also idealistic sister

Those leaders espouse those same values and strategies you speak of

But the “doing” is zero

My question to you is what have you done to improve your own lot and those of others?

I am not disagreeing with you by the way
Literally speaking, in view of making Nigeria great, everyone's view will always be idealistic unless you are in a position of power like Osinbajo. "Change starts with you" mantra and all that is a waste of time without a collective effort from everyone else (statically impossible). Hence, why you need government to force or engineer the change.
Asking me what I have done is merely a deflecting tactics as it wouldn't change the perspective of significant number of Nigerians. Irrespective of my contribution, statically speaking, lot of Nigerians with less privilege has probably made a bigger impact on their society. Does that fact invalidate my political voice or yours? Now, the real question is, why hasn't their contribution been able to make any difference for many years. Nigeria has been blessed with many activist over the years, so what happened to their contribution? Mr Genius, why is it that a region was able to make a significant progress under a man called Awolowo than all others (Only for his kinsmen to let him down)? How was Chao Ming able to make such a significant difference, what about Lee Kuan Yew?
It's because real change starts from the top, in which case your question will be more relevant to your leaders. Whatever you do is merely scratching an insignificant surface.
Politics / Re: Nigeria Will Change If We Obey God - Osinbajo by Dollyak(f): 1:55pm On May 21, 2018
lool.. you could almost predict the same boring idealistic nonsense from these politicians. There are many countries less religious and much more morally bankrupt, that are more prosperous than Nigeria. Humans by nature, are built to do the wrong things if there aren't any consequences. It's the consequences of the behavior that will affect the behavior of Nigerians significantly.

In other words, you need a water tight law that is fair, absolute, less ambiguous and binding to change the behavior of the average Nigerians. You also needs strategies to aid growth, improve education, standard welfare etc.

Let's talk about strategies that brings about real change and less idealist talk please.

This is still a relatively poor growth considering Nigeria is an emerging market. You can't break out of poverty with such low growth and it also shows the need to diversify. Oil and agriculture aren't going to produce the magic 5-7% growth anymore.

This is quite sad and is a painful reminder why the country shouldn't be together. Nigeria is too big, too diverse to get anything done without tribal politics getting in the way. In addition, the current tribal politics favors elites who are easily protected by their "own".

Electricity should be the least of Nigeria's problem but there you go, the self acclaimed "Giant of Africa".

Sorry but your write up is based on theory.
There are so many assumptions that is is clear you have little practical experience of the real world. FDI does not have to enter your economy as cash that is changed into Naira or even enters your banls.
In the oil sector e.g. an FPSO off shore platform which could cost $3 billion may enter your country and it is fully faabricated abroad 100%
so FDI has many dimensions to it beyond changing dollars into naira.
The reality is that foreign reserves are not a static measure. They change all the time

So to make a major investment based on the snapshot of a Foreign Reserve measure is a very stupid thing to do . Foreign reserves can be depleted very quickly even if import levels are static and is a measure of confidence in the economy.

It is annoying when people throw words or phrases about because they heard someone else ue them or to sound smart?

What is a fiscal instrument and what has that got to do with defending the Naira. Defending the Naira is a monetary and not a fiscal intervention within the ambit of the Central Bank. It is the government and not the CBN that deploys fiscal instruments and this is not for currency defense

The sector of investment makes a huge difference as well as the business model.
A company that invests in the oil sector makes its own sales and manages adequately its forex cash flow

You have not established any logical cause and effect relationship between FDI and foreign reserves and your China association is a voodoo association.

Did the FDI follow huge Forex reserves or vice versa.

There is no linear graphical relationship between FDI and foreign reserve.
China has the BIGGEST forex reserves but the UK has more investment
Russia has huge foreign reserves rlatively little investment

The UK and Japan are good examples for comparison because they are top economiies but Japan has very huge reserves compared to the UK which has a lot more investment

There are so many factors affecting FDi

First
The opportunity must exist

Next is politiics. If you are not friends with the right countries and do their bidding (especially the US) you will struggle unless you are big in your own right.

You must have security, infrastructure and the workforce. The English language is an advantage and a reasonable judicial system

FDI is not a useful tool for making investment decisions.

In the case of Nigeria is there ANYTHING anyone is doing to enhance FDI? The only effective thing is to industrialize and reduce imports otherwise we restrict the sale of dollars and articially grow reserves as we are doing now .To what end?

Mr Bushman, you are fooling no one with all these bullz you've written. Why are you so dishonest about what you have no idea about? You have been corrected multiple times about your misinformation on this thread. STOP!! UK does not have more foreign investment than china. You were corrected about your wrong assertion that Nigeria has more forex reserves than USA and you are still peddling more ignorant lies and falsehoods.

Fyi, UK's foreign investment last year was skewed by London-listed brewer SABMiller takeover by its rival Anheuser-Busch InBev which made up a huge chunk of the investment.

STOP MAN, YOU'RE EMBARRASSING.

Foreign reserves are phenomenally easy to acquire for a resource based economy, especially one that relies on oil. Literally exporting of crude earns you dollars. Nigeria is far weaker than South Africa in every other metric be it economic development, diversification, infrastructure, literacy, wealth per person, etc.
Indeed, hence why this news isn't a course for celebration.

You can be confident I won't be visiting your little blog.

Take home points

Foreign exchange reserves are not government reserves or funds
They are CBN assets used to maintain value of naira and support international trade
They cannot be used as a collateral FOR ANYTHING
Governments do not routinely provide collateral to investors ,I have never heard that before

Can you give one example where Foreign exchange reserves have EVER been used as a collateral?

Just One

Read below, Bank of England definition of FER and equate it to the junk you've been writing. FYI, FER is not only exclusive to your highlighted comment.

This conversation is definitely going nowhere, so knock yourself out if the link below can't cure your ignorance.

Can you tell me one example from anywhere where foreign reserves have been used as collateral?

If they are not even used as collateral for borrowing cash how can they be used as collateral for investors. An asseet that des not belong to government which is highly liquid and volatile? guy you really are out of your depth here and do not know what you are talking about

Crashing of ruble is irrelevant to FDI discussion we are having here and is just a gratuitus diversion.

FDI and Foreign reserves have no correlation.

Investors are interested in genuine opportunity ,security and rule of law not foreign reserves
You Nigerians never fail to amaze me. A quick Google search will cure your ignorance (see below).

https://www.economicshelp.org/blog/853/currency/foreign-currency-reserves/

Have a read or continue in your ignoramce. Investing in third world countries are normally deemed high risk. Therefore, your need a degree of credit worthiness to attract significant investment.

Seriously.... You do not know what you are talking about and you are talking to someone who can see through your bluster.

Guy you are talking jazz
Use your brain man. Without high Foreign reserve what collateral does Nigeria have? You think CBN is just piling on cash for nothing?
In literal sense you don't go to investors with just high FOR but it's part of what will give an investor confidence in your economy.
Without high Foreign reserve Russia rubble would have crashed due to U.S. and EU sanctions.

Foreign reseerves attrct FDI

How exactly does that work?
High Foreign exchange reserves (FER) is really important for the developing countries. Because investors in developed countries like UK/USA etc. often require developing countries to provide high-value U.S. financial instruments as collateral to ensure the safety of their investments. That's one of the reasons Nigeria tries to export to U.S. and other western countries so as to accumulate large reserves, with which they can buy western countries financial assets (such as bonds).

It's not the end all and be all tbh, but it does help.
