owobokiri: What is fair and what is unfair? That the manufacturers association of Nigeria is headed by an igbo? How is the head of that pressure group elected? Through members consent or through a presidential fiat? Buhari is the head of cattle rustlers in Nigeria, do I begrudge him? The xenophobe you quoted had to part the ocean to find a ministry "dominated" by the igbos under jonathan, you should have asked him who dominates/d the customs, police force, NNPC, the ministry that takes charge of Abuja, the solid mineral ministry, federal civil service, army etc. . Most of the professoonals he mentioned heading the finance ministry have been there utilizing their renowned skills(note!) to salvage government parastatals destroyed by a bunch of ultra inefficient 'quota system' inepts populated in the main by some babaringa wearing northerners and their owanbe slaves with their nauseously gaseous "come and chop" mentality. . .
That said, I am not a member off the southern groups worried by the destructive results of Tinubus imbecelic political experimentations. When Tinubu-SW teamed up with buharis north to ruthlessly/remorselessly brutalise a weak jonathan ceaselessly, finally chasing him away from Abuja with so much fanfair, discerning minds did warn of the far reaching implications of this odious reality both on ethnic relations in Nigeria and on all the unholly alliances cobbled up by these groups with the eastern minorities to devide and rule. The scales are off now. The minorities know better. With war against the militants looming just few weeks after jonathans humiliations, any student of ethnic politics wil tell you that SW/North has provided the east with pure gold. Take it from me- and I am not consoling myself- by the time this dispensation winds down, those laughing last may not be from the north or SW. I have had time to think about it and I do agree that it is no where as bad as he is trying to make out. Sir, I am with you on this one, because fact still remains that no region has ever been this dominant. |

Nice initiative barcarnista. dinachi: You are a jobless clown. Did the allowances issue start with Buharis government? Why didn't you lead a civil disobedience when your god GEJ was there? You want to cause problems for Buhari ba? No other government in Nigeria's history has ever destroyed the economy of Nigeria like GEJ but you didn't lead any civil disobedience all through its history. You are a paid PDP agent and any understanding Nigerian will do anything within his power to stay far away from you and your suggestions! Get some wisdom for once, this isn't about one party. It's funny how you would rather defend politicians to the detriment of the fellow citizens. This is why Nigeria is still where it is. |

First tell me what he did wrong and prove you have tried to know your history.
I know enough of Muritala. From his 1966 coup that brought Gowon into government to why he was killed.
I know his psychological make up from the stories I have read about him. So when I talk, I speak authoritatively, because I read a lot.
You guys just proves the people that said if you want to hide anything from the black man, put it in a book right. I have read muritala's biography online and I still have to give the nod to Awolowo, due to his sheer vision. He is a towering figure. |
Politics › Re: Who Was The Best President Nigeria Has Ever Had? by Dollyak(f): 12:42am On Jun 17, 2015 |
Best leader has to be Awolowo. He discussed the need to create states in Nigeria under a federal system of government. As premier of the old Western Region, he launched a free Universal Primary Education Scheme in January, 1955. In launching the revolutionary scheme, he had the conviction that education was the quickest means of transforming a society. He harnessed the revenue from cocoa and other cash crops for the laudable scheme.
Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Awo’s compatriot said “It is an incontrovertible fact of history that Chief Awolowo left his footprints on the sands of time and from generation to generation, his contributions to the history of Nigeria in particular, and Africa in general, shall be a landmark and inspiration to guide our people in the holy crusade for a place in the sun.”
This is not even debatable. How many president can match his visions? |

QuotaSystem: Not that I'm in support of winner-takes-all, but did you also show people how bad it was under Jonathan who blatantly side-lined, subjugated and marginalized 4 whole geo-political zones using his cronies and lap-dogs?
It was a core northerner, Dr. Junaid Mohammed that screamed at the injustice being meted on the Yoruba under Jonathan. Hear him;
"If you compare man for man, the South-West has more people that are better educated with university degrees than the entire South-South. But when you look at the protocol list of the top 20 officials in the country, from the President downwards, there is only one Yoruba man. I am not trying to incite any unnecessary fears, but if all the appointees were chosen based on merit and there was no qualified Yoruba person who could be in that group of 20, I am prepared to concede. But the fact of the matter is that for every one out of those 20, there are thousands of Yorubas who are qualified but were not appointed. If you don’t call that marginalisation, then I don’t know what it is. You can make an excuse that maybe northerners like me are not educated. That was what Edwin Clark said until he had to admit at the National Conference that he was mistaken and he had become aware that many northerners were also educated.
The reality is that there was a deliberate machinery set in motion to alienate certain sections of the country; the entire North and the South-West were particularly singled out for marginalisation and, to a large extent, that succeeded. Look at the economy, for instance; it is headed by a woman who started her career as a geographer that was bundled up and shipped to Nigeria to be made Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria is an Igbo man. Within the CBN, there is an agency called the Assets Management Company of Nigeria. For the most part, it has been headed by Igbo men. The Nigeria Economic Summit Group is also headed by an Igbo man. The Securities and Exchange Commission, until two months ago, was headed by an Igbo woman. The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria has been headed by an Igbo man.
If you look carefully, you will notice that the movers and shakers of the national economy are Igbos, and not because they are the best or the brightest, but simply because they could not find Ijaw people. Now that this so-called Coordinating Minister of the Economy has driven the economy into a ditch, we are being confronted with economic disaster for which every Nigerian, whether Igbo or non-Igbo will pay a price. We now have the highest level of unemployment in the history of this country, in addition to corruption."- Dr. Junaid Mohammed.
http://eagleyereportconnect..co.uk/2015/05/dr-junaid-mohammed-says-jonathan.html Fair enough. You make sense to be fair. Everyone is as bad as each other. |

This is the first time in the history of democracy in Nigeria that the headship of all the positions that matter in national government went to only one region of the country. We must all thank the North for being ''wise'' and also Tinubu and SW for facilitating the ''wisdom'' of the North. Please can you add 'Leader of Nigeria port authority situated in Lagos- Hausa Leader of petroleum - Hausa-buari This will show people how bad it is. |
Politics › Re: Is The Ghanian Cedi Stronger Than Naira? by Dollyak(f): 10:18pm On Jun 16, 2015 |
Wallie: No. As a country, you try to weaken your currency based on whether you're an import/export based economy.
If your economy is largely based on export, you want a weaker currency because it will make your goods cheaper abroad and when money gets repatriated to your country, you will have more of it in your local currency.
If your currency is strong, ideally, it should mean you're an import-based economy like Nigeria. For example, if NGN 1 = $2, that means that a car imported from the US at a cost of $100,000 will only cost NGN50,000 in Nigeria. The populace will be more prosperous.
In Nigeria, we need a carefully balanced currency peg because we are somewhat of an export-based when generating revenue but an import-based economy when consuming goods.
Here's a research topic for someone doing their thesis in economics: what should be the ideal peg of Naira to a dollar based on our current consumption? The answer will depend on how much we earn from exporting relative to how much we spend on imported goods. Great analysis. People fail to realise this when demanding for $1=#1 from buhari. |

Read this conclusion and compare it with what pasted earlier. Alright, some few points. 1 Ghana is now listed as part of the HIPC 2 The inflation of ghana is now at 16% 3 Growth forecast 3-4% similar to Nigeria. 4 Smallet size of economy compared to Nigeria. Based off this, Nigeria definitely has a better economy. However, this is nothing to be proud of as we aren't looking that healthy either. |

PointB: In any case:
GHANA
Ghana’s economy is expected to slow down for the fourth consecutive year to an estimated 3.9% growth rate in 2015, owing to a severe energy crisis, unsustainable domestic and external debt burdens, and deteriorated macroeconomic and financial imbalances. Provisional gross domestic product (GDP) figures issued by Ghana Statistical Services (GSS) further suggest that the economy expanded by 4.2% in 2014, less than the growth of 7.3% recorded in 2013. The drivers of growth continue to be the service sectors, which constitute 50.2% of the economy, followed by industry and agriculture at 28.4% and 19.9% respectively. In 2016 the economy is expected to recover, registering a growth of around 6%, bolstered by an increase in oil and gas production, private sector investment, improved public infrastructure and the country’s political stability. Nonetheless, the prevailing low international oil prices could slow the pace of economic growthin the future.
http://www.africaneconomicoutlook.org/en/country-notes/west-africa/ghana/
NIGERIA
The economy has enjoyed sustained economic growth for a decade, with annual real GDP increasing by around 7%; it was 6.3% in 2014. The non-oil sector has been the main driver of growth, with services contributing about 57%, while manufacturing and agriculture, respectively contributed about 9% and 21%. The economy is thus diversifying and is becoming more services-oriented, in particular through retail and wholesale trade, real estate, information and communication.

Belmot: The Cedi was redenominated that is why it looks stronger but it is not. Ghana's economy cannot sustain a stronger cedi because it mostly depend on imports. Indeed. Anyways, ghanian economy is in better shape and will continue to do so for a while. Although, Nigeria's bond is more attractive it has to be said. |

A currency's purchasing power can also be used as an indicator of the relative worth of currencies. For example, if US$1 can be exchanged for XYZ$1, it would appear that the XYZ dollar is worth as much as the U.S. dollar. However, if the purchasing power of XYZ$1 is equal to only US$0.50, then you can conclude that the U.S. dollar is worth more than the XYZ dollar, because a single U.S. dollar can be used to buy more goods than a single XYZ dollar can. |
Politics › Re: Is The Ghanian Cedi Stronger Than Naira? by Dollyak(f): 6:49pm On Jun 16, 2015 |
frankmoney: yes I did ...but does dt means ghana's economy is stronger that nigerian's own? like I said an exchange rate website rated d cedi higher than the japanese yen ... @ frankmoney Generally speaking, when Country A's currency is worth more than that of Country B, it does not necessarily mean that Country A's economy is stronger than B's. For example, Japan's economy is regarded as one of the world's strongest, and yet a single Japanese yen exchanges for considerably less than US$1. On the other hand, Cyprus' economy is considerably smaller than the U.S. economy, but Cyprus' currency, which is the pound, exchanges for about twice as much as the U.S. dollar. The fact of the matter is that looking at a currency's worth relative to that of another currency at a static point in time is meaningless; the best way to judge a currency's worth is to watch it in relation to other currencies over time. Supply and demand, inflation and other economic factors will cause changes to a currency's relative worth, and it is this change in value that can be used to evaluate worth. |
