PoliticsRe: "We Found Corruption Everywhere" Says Buhari Transition Committee Chairman, by Dollyak(f): 2:26pm On Jun 21, 2015
Corruption is an inevitable by-product of the existing political structure. Once they fix this structural problem, every other thing falls into place.

Ma'am this is nigeria and one must take into account her standard.
We all long for that but none of these is being attain in any part of nigeria as we speak. Underground drainage?
oh yeah. This is Nigeria, where substandards are celebrated and accepted by the citizens. This doesn't even make an economic sense for major urban cities... but hey, the citizens are happy with it.

Hello Nlanders,
My driver is by my standards a learned guy( he's got an OND) but he rudely asserted yesterday on our way to a government function that any man who is unmarried at 30 Is irresponsible.
Am single at 30. I just concluded the guy is referring to me his boss.
This guy has been with me when I had nothing. Ordinarily I shall fire and compensate him but the guy is the average employee you need hardworking and industrious but his last statement got him into my black books.
What do I Do? I dont intend getting married any time soon but his last gaffee is hurting me.
of course not... marriage isn't for everyone in the first place. So you are good.

Same in Texas .
Constant flooding in texas is understandable, due to low population density couple with the sheer size of the state. So, it doesn't make sense to invest in a proper drainage system because flooding doesn't impact the economy nor affect people enough to warrant such an investment- more like an acceptable nuisance.
Lagos on the other hand is more like manhattan or London. The cumulative, economic and social effect of flooding in Lagos is enormous. So I fail to see why proper drainage systems hasn't been installed in key areas at least.

ideology:
i understand u, my dear but it won't happen overnight. Besides there is more to it than eyes can see.

Eg, in agriculture, government used to subsize the price of fertilizers, but People in government office introduced middlemen and sold the products at higher prices which in turn affected the farmers.
Gej introduced a system that bypasses the middle men. Hence farmers now buy fertilizers at the right price. Do you know how many enemies GEJ made from that decision??
The fact of the matter is, Jonathan could have done something about this but chose not to for whatever reason. While I understand there were powerful forces involved, you cannot but admit he had the power to put things right. He is the president of Nigeria. I applaud his initiative for the farmers btw.
PoliticsRe: Lagos Flood And What It Caused (photos) by Dollyak(f):
The rate of flooding in Lagos is unacceptable. Why can't lagos invest in a proper underground drainage system? The long term benefit of underground drainage simply outweighs its project cost.

ideology:
You know your country well, corruption has eaten deep, people take advantage of government; so It is not always about the head.
Eg Gmb once headed PTDF, $2.8 million missed under his watch and he could not account for it, does it mean that Buhari stole it.

We are the people spoiling governance, the people stealing funds most of the times are our parents, brothers, sisters and relations working in public offices not only the political class and are living big and we know bulk of their wealth are public funds.
I am sorry, but that is not a good excuse. Trust me, you can create a structure that ensure stuffs like this doesn't happen. Why do you think projects by private investors tends to be more cost effective than that of the government? The difference is in the leadership and structure of the organisation.

all4naija:

For a preamble, I don't want to get into this heated debate far with you before but seeing where your argument is headed I have to seat tightly and explicitly discuss it. Indeed, I am beginning to see one of the very reasons the Nigerian leaders can play down on the intelligence of the citizens and go Scot-free.

Basically, I call it petty from the perspective of a 21st century individual who has traveled the world and see how things are carried out, even the least wealthy nations can do better with those funds meant for the state. Mind you, those schools are nothing to write home about which you are zealously complimenting the governor for. Those are universal basic education standard of infrastructure meant for villages. You need to see many developing countries which are on the same level with Nigeria on how they are building for their younger generation. Even within African continent, countries like Morocco, Algeria, South Africa, Namibia, Angola, etc are doing better. Apart from South Africa in that group the others are nowhere to talk about in terms of natural resources as wealth in comparison to Nigeria. Should I remind you that Nigeria failed to meet the MDGs?

There you are seating behind your computer concurrently defending a man who mismanaged the state fund meant to develop the infrastructure of a state to good standard while at the same time praising his mediocrity. If you cannot see he has done nothing in commensurate to the money from the state coffer then you are very sentimental about those school infrastructure and I would blame you of your ignorance. Your ineptitude to learn is very patronizing though. I am sincerely perturbed by such attitude.

To put it precisely, he has done nothing worth praising with the fund remitted to that state in a nuttshell.

I have heard of that before and it is nothing new. Your aberrant behavior is nauseating and it is nothing but of a lackadaisical individual without full understanding of how a good society functions to best carry our its obligation of providing projects in the best practical way. Only in your idiotic mind you take every hut-looking build worth praising. That is a big shame on you.One thing is that I am not going to continue telling you how those filthy school buildings are - a disgrace to the very person you are defending in a forum,an insolent and incompetent leader . The other is that you couldn't provide evidence to even proven how those projects are laudable in the first place.

To help you understand my statement correctly, I think you are fighting for a looter where it is not required of you to do so. The earlier you understand that the better for you to move on with your pathetic life.

That is correct. The actions of Amaechi have nothing worth praising. Indeed, he needs to be questioned on how he uses the state fund for his political prestidigitation. While he leaves the crumbs for people like you to eat yet worship him in your delusion is another thing he has to explain. Instead of you demanding for explanations here you are defending him. That is preposterous to see of a youth who cannot fight for his rights and future in the first place. Even the important projects like the Rivers Monorail, etc are abandoned and you don't see them as relevant to this discuss. What a way to go with a nonchalant pleb.

Bwahaha... You are the one who cannot make sense of my post. I am not in defense of Wike either. Your emotions for the fraudster, Amaechi, wouldn't let you see my points because you lack basic understanding of what I am driving at. I repeatedly made you understand there is nothing wrong in complaining about the poor state of the schools in the original poster's images. Not because Wike isn't exemplary doesn't mean his views on the deplorable conditions of those schools should be ignored and praise the petty ones the former governor has done to the detriment of leaving those ones unattended to. What are the reasons why he has to leave those schools undeveloped and spent billions of Naira campaigning for a presidential candidate? You have to answer that question and give me the reasons why I have to compliment him for providing less!

Your lack of understanding gives you away. You even separate the paragraph to guide your ulterior motive. Mentioning the status of those schools to you is to let you have the knowledge of why Wike as a former minister of education is not relevant to the argument at that point in time. Only in your rambling you deserve something as a reminder so not to miss the point. That is absolutely for clarity sake. You are dumbing down on your silliness in this part of your post. I am not going to take you serious.

That should be left for the federal government to question. In the light of this argument you would agree with me he has every right on this matter to speak about those schools and criticize them. He actually does that while those images are testaments to his opinions on the state of the infrastructure the ex-governor didn't fix. The fact is that you are trying hard to use one failure to define another and weigh them to see who perform worst from the two them or the people in question. That is laughable and clearly unmentionable of you. You need to seat yourself down and ruminate on the significance of that question(you ask me in this your very post) to the reason why Amaechi doesn't build those schools while having billions of Naira from state coffer to spend on election.

However, you would have to point to the number of federal schools in the country and how that compared to those of the states before making any bogus claim here. It is right to say, the former Rivers state governor is a complete mess!

What is rumor in stating facts? That is a rhetorical question though. River state is one of the highest recipients of national allocation. There you have the oil companies and it is supposed to be the richest state in the country here you are telling me I am wrong.

During his administration the Jonathan government dishes out money from the national reserve (in the oil booming times) to the state governors to fix their infrastructure and he's one of the recipients. It is clear he receives more money than his predecessors.I repeat, it is palpable he receives more money than his predecessors.

I cry when you don't see how this project affects the schools and other things indirectly. It would have eased the transportation problems of the city thereby reducing the stress of parents and school children time in carrying out their activities. There would be ample time for them to do other recreational activities which will balance their knowledge of the environment, help to boost their health, etc. I can see you have no idea how significant this Monorail project would be to that city if it's realized by the governor.

The reason why there is poor development every where in the country is due to this kind of careless approach to projects. A negligent disposition to important things which can be beneficial to the people. I d i o t!
This is a really sound argument. Anyways, my opinion is there is no point having a discussion with some of this self acclaimed-but moderately intelligent fellows, who are so far up their arse. Some of these guys need to get out of naija to see how things are done in other countries. Nigerians are the easiest to govern.
Don't get me started on the bad state of education in states like Osun and Oyo states.
