fellow Nigerians...I need help again o...TU dortmund has confirmed admission for WS 2016 process systems engineering for yours truly. I opened my blocked account last year and i have the embassy slip, but I have not funded (still trying to gather the money for the form A application).

1. Should I wait till i fund before applying for an interview date at the embassy, or should I do the interview with the Account opening slip they gave me?
2. if i do my interview with the slip, will i have a limited time to fund account before visa is rejected? if so, how much time is this?

Since you opened your account last year, DB should have send you an email stating your account number.. If this is the case, you dont need to use the slip given to you by the embassy. Just printout the email confirmation from DB (english Part)

1) Why should you wait to fund.. as a matter of fact, its advisable to apply for visa interview first. and if the funds is ready before or after your interview, you can go ahead to fund.

2) If you attend the interview and receives an email within 1-3 days to fund your blocked account so as to complete the process, then you can arrange for the funding. I have seen a rare case where someone was asked to fund, yet he was denied Visa. Since you're going for winter, I doubt if the embassy will schedule a date for you yet.. probably by May/June (I may be wrong).


Above all, be prayerful to God and all will be well !

UPDATE ON FORM A !!!


I spoke with a friend who works at Sterling bank head office on Wednesday and he confided in me that "FORM A" has not been cancelled by the CBN as widely proposed. He said CBN sent a circular which contains the amount (in dollars) each bank have consumed with zenith bank topping the chart. he claimed zenith bank initiated "Form A" transaction worth $25m while others also have their own share.

This now got me thinking.. If zenith bank alone could consume $25m worth of Form A, shey na all Nigerian student dey travel ni

Anyway, I believe these banks have some hidden racketeering going on. according to my friend, he said form A is still in use and no worries. Just that most banks have run out of Forex. So, its better we start sourcing for bank with funds so as not to be caught unawares.

What I believe is this: Since we'll be transacting in Euros, we may not really be affected cos there's more demand for $US than the Euros in the parallel market.

Lets keep our hands/fingers crossed while hoping for the best.

Official rate directly from CBN as at 02/10/2016 was 221 (selling rate)
Forex rate is pegged at 224.38 (Google)

So if you are using union bank.. Its the Forex rate + 10 naira = 234/euros
Other banks. Forex rate + (between 4/8 naira) = e.g 228, 229, 230, 231, e.t.c

But these rates changes intermittently..

Yes, Go to their Walter Carrington office to carry out the transaction cos Idejo is mainly for Bureau de Change

BUT.. They always request for SIGNED admission letter. So if your admission letter does not carry a signature, they will reject the transaction.

Goethe no get space for me till april 9too late for me) and their teachers there keep posting me regarding private lesson. Can anyone refer me to a good teacher to take up my case? 2. I need to fund my Blocked account. Can someone pls direct me to a bank that can do form A requests ASAP? i don weak with all the bad news that I have been getting from so many banks. One lady at GTBank said she has several form A requests that have been pending for 4 months now. Please, house, help me with this info. God will help you all...

2. all opinions welcome on this next one. I have applied to schools in hamburg and aachen, and i plan to apply to more schools in dortmund and bremen. question is, which one sure pass for emplyment that omo boy can use to keep body and soul together? and if i find some work on the side, can it possibly cover my bills to the point where i dont need to significantly touch my blocked account? 1) For your survival in germany, you need to learn the language. its the gateway to opportunities. and when we say learn.. it not "Jelenke" and broken german.. You speak "sehr gut deutsch etwas B2" then you'll see opportunities flying up and down. As for Private Lesson, I cant say much but talk to others like Frau Amafili, Frau Tosin. Herr Ismaila is planning something but not yet revealed. with time, you will know.

2) The question is: Have you gotten admission to study in Germany? If yes, I'd advise you to go to the embassy with the admission letter (2x), blocked account form (filled but not signed 2 copies), passport data page (2x) this process will allow Deutsch bank to open a student blocked account for you. After some weeks.. 4-8 weeks precisely, your new account number will be communicated to you. Proceed to UNION bank HQ, to initiate the transaction. Other banks also initiate Form A transaction like Stanbic, Fidely, Sterling, First bank, and Access bank. but Union bank has been confirmed to be the fastest but expensive means of Form A transfer. So the option lies with you. but ensure you visit the head office of the banks stated above to carry out the transaction. Stanbic bank is fast as well. but Union bank is tested and confirmed.

3) Hamburg is a great place to study and jab. Aachen is in NRW which has cities like koln, dusseldorf, dortmund, and so on. you will always get something to do when you land but your language skill will propel you to a higher paying job. though menial students jobs are readily available. But oga, that ya mindset of not touching your Blocked account get as he be.. To be very candid with you, your first 1-2 months will be spending spree/Galore... Housing and kaution, semester fees, city registration, Insurance(esp if you are over 30 ), Visa renewal appointment, internet, food, clothes, und so weiter.. Just zero your mind and trust/hope in God. Your second year will always be sorted out when you settled down.


4) Since you'll be going for studies. The only means your wife could join you will be via "Studentship" I doubt if a student can file for family re-union.. (no sure though) but Oga, the best and surest way for your partner is via studentship. as for the work, she has to learn the language as well. its not automatic/instata. even though.. she'll also get a menial job.

Oga, the question you asked have been answered some 3-5 pages backward. you should cultivate the habit of reading some few post backward.. Trust me, you will never regret it.

For blocked account funding, Go to any bank.. preferrably Union bank, Stanbic bank, access bank, fidelity bank, zenith bank and sterling bank.

Union bank charges higher than other bank but transfers between 5-7 working days max while other banks takes more or even lesser days.

Just go to any of the banks and inquire about Form A transactions for Invincible goods and services

Why is it going to be hard these days for people that are intending to use letter of sponsorship?

Its a two way thingy.. You really need to know the said person one-on-one.. Also, this person vouching for you has to trust you to the brim. Sponsorship letter means whenever you default or go wrong, your sponsor will be held responsible. so alot of cautions have to be made.

Back to the embassy, they will ask you series of personal questions about your sponsor which you need to strongly defend. If the embassy accepts your explanations, the alien office might find one fault or the other which may dent your visa application process.

Moreso, If you intend using sponsorship, be ready to carve out a certain amount of money for your upkeep.(around 3000-4000 euros). This money will likely sustain you for the next couple of months. Even though your sponsor may still help with some cash... your first 2 months in Germany will be spending spree/galore... (Semester ticket, Housing, Kaution(deposit), visa extension, city registration, food, internet, recharge card, e.t.c). coupled with the fact that you'll be trying to settle down with studies and all.. My brothers and sisters, It aint easy...

I will strongly advise anyone going for studies to use blocked account.. even if you borrow, you will surely pay back with time.. The alien office needs just an email confirmation from Deutsch Bank for the processing to be completed. As for sponsorship, series of checks will be carried out on your sponsor which sometimes delays visa processing. e.g Tax payment, insurance, number of dependent(s), salary (he must make above 2500 euros), police report, and other checks.

If you have the money or any means of getting it. try hard and you will be glad you did.

For me private insurance is a bad idea....just get use to the idea of contribution...I ve been contributing for 18mths and barely visit the hospital....Dont fall for the private insurance trap.

Using govt health insurance u pay abt 80 euros a mth...if u re using private it starts with abt 35 or so and increase with time....Nothin is certain in life...u never can tell u may fall sick and need urgent medical care.....most private health insurance dont cover u fully.you dont want to start worryin abt when you can visit the hospital.

So let me paint u a scenario....you switch to private and save 40 euros a mth in a yr thats 480 euros in 2 yrs 960 euros ....we hope nothin goes wrong...but if along the line something goes wrong...u will need medical care (nothin is certain) ur private health insurance is nt a full cover u may ve to pay some of the bills...baba the bills nor nice.......thats if u ve the money at the moment...if u re broke...it becomes a debt.

My frnd in NRW use to tell me a story of a young chap who left Aok only for him to sustain an injury when playin football 3mths later .......he needed urgent surgery....surgery was done....his insurance was nt full cover...he got a bill of abt 4k euros....Till date my frnd tells me he is still tryin to pay that money.

So many pple ve ugly experiences with private insurance.....I ve heard of a case where the private insurance told the person that any surgery or major treament done within 3mths of joinin6 them will nt be paid by them.even if u re above 30 (then u pay 160 euros for govt insurance...its still a bad idea to go private)

As Nigerians the whole idea of a contributory system is still new to some of us....but to be honest its d best for u now...mind u 80 euros is a discount price for students.

Dont try to save money at the expense of ur own health

Some company will nt employ u with private insurance....eg.Amazon Rheinberg.


In summary private health insurance is penny wise pounds foolish.

Nice one Fapper. But euros rate is not constant on Azimo. You may be surprised to see the same euros being sold for 245 the next day. Also, does your sister provide the same admission letter at the bank for the same transaction or you "Dagbo" admission letter..

Just asking cos the transaction officer may ask questions or better still, do you sort your way out with the officer?

Lastly, your blocked account can't withdraw more that 670€ a month. After withdrawing, how do you pay your bills...

Schwarz has raised some very good and salient point. But I need to stress the fact that Its not "Rossy" everywhere. I doubt if you ever had the chance/opportunity to hustle in Nigeria, you would get my point better.

Life is all about ups and down. Nigeria has alot of negativities, yet we are surviving. Likewise in every other country. The key to surviving in Germany is the language, coupled with the energy to work and study at the same time. I believe he should have balanced the write-ups with some other advantages. You cant just come and paint the whole country as if people are not making it there. Life is not fair to everybody. You may be in a city/town where economics activities are not taking place. but some other cities are bubbling. In as much I respect your advice, you went too deep about painting the economics aspect..

If its gonna cost me to sell properties to get to my destination, am gonna do just that. The hustling spirit never give up. I can authoritatively tell you a whole lots of students borrowed money, got loans to achieve the German dreams and they still got high hopes.

I have always been positive, determined, aggressive, with the "CAN-DO" ability. As for me,  I will choose Germany over alot of developed countries without thinking twice..

Honestly, some comments here makes me laugh
You don't want to attempt IELTS but you want admission. when the decision maker decline your application, you start crying fowl.. my brother, our english is not recognized yet as "Öfficial" hence the need to fulfill all these requirements. Remember, thousands of applicants with good cgpa, ielts result, amazing motivation letters, work experience are also applying for the same course you are yearning for. I believe in one thing. when we do things right, with God and prayer, everything will fall in place. All these schools change rules and you never can tell. I have seen crazy instances where a Nigerian student with 2.97 Cgpa, 7.0 IELTS, Goethe A1, motivation letter, work experience who applied for Bsc in automotive engineering was rejected.. So you cant be so sure when the decision makers are deciding your application. but from you own end, make sure everything is in place. Its all about God's grace..

Like serious.. A school offering Msc programme that does not need recommendation and English test . with my little experience in German schools and studies, I have never come across such school and course..maybe you can be kind enough to share it with us..

I currently hold admission from three universities since from last winter, had deferred because I learnt from this thread that we need to package ourselves well, I've read from this thread how it's important to learn atleast the basic German just so the workload is not too much even if some school offers free German classes.
Two of these admissions will stil be up until this winter and I am using this waiting time to groom myself and rebrand myself awaiting what's ahead.
I am currently now enrolled to the A1 classes at Goethe and trying to save cost as I've had to move from delta to lagos because of this, as usual I need the help of anyone who can please help with any of those books to help me cut the cost/save the budget on them atleast the money can be diverted to my transport fair (transport for this lagos self Na D.I.E ohh shuu plus that I'll be going to classes everyday from Ajah is no child's play Mehn ), this would go along way for me.
Please a quick info as to this is so important for me as I have an appointment this afternoon and would mean I have to pay for the books if I can't find anyone to help out since I've already enrolled since last week.

SOP means statement of purpose. This is where you explain detailed information about you, your previous study, what you stand to gain for studying that particular course, your experience, why the school and so much. Remember to be simple, posh and straight to the point.


On uniasst website, just upload all your documents and certificates. You'll be fine.

Oga, you need to do some assignment. The last time I converted your cgpa into german grading, I was presented with 2.59 which is very okay for admission. What you need to do as stressed out earlier on is to write a good SOP. Coupled with your ielts band score. You should be fine. But ensure you explore other fields related to your course and don't constrain yourself to Archi alone.
