nice topic. But a very rhetorical question to ask a male gynaecologist. |
jackbauersballs: This Akhi is Suffering for his faith...Suffering for the Ummahlwkm. |
kolado: You said it all. Are you a lawyer?10 years at the bar. |
first of all i'd like to empathise and say sorry for the embarrasment your dad suffered. I imagine you would have preferred if he hadnt been subjected to that opprobrium. now, about suing. Equity will not suffer a wrong to be without a remedy. So I think you can sue, not for enforcement of fundamental human rights, but for damages. You could proceed by first getting your lawyer to write the state commissioner of police and copy the I.G. In the letter he should narrate your experiences and then ask for a written apology and 50 million naira damages to be paid within 14 days failure of which you'll proceed to court. The letter will compel them to invite your lawyer for settlement out of court. When they pay you the reduced amount don't forget to inform me so i can send my legal bill to you. |
you write very good english. I admire your penmanship. Sorry about the theft. |
will really miss Tommy Smith and the rest Of the guys on Espn soccernet press pass. Arguably the best football programme on tv. |

atlwireles: Doesn't work that way. Under the OBJ criteria used to retire a lot political exposed officer after he came onboard 1999. Mustapha would have been retired. His course entry mates are either colonels or Brig general as long as they were able to meet army standards and promotion criteria. Mustapha has not met most of those standards, promotion is not automatic in the army..He also due for retirement 2017. The good news here for mustapha is his pension and back pay. What a windfall.obj retired all military persons who had held political appointments previously. mustapha was a Chief Security Officer to Abacha . so its not likely he'll be retired on that ground. But he'll be retired nonetheless. Probably with the rank of a colonel. |
Yeah, the road is very free. But then thats when most of these ruthless truck and lorry drivers ply the roads. Secondly bad boys (armed robbers) tend to prefer doing their marketing in the dark hours. Pls don't try it. |
Brimmie: Postinor2 shey??lwkmd. You're a veeery badt boy. |
dolphinife: Some people are so naïve and obsolete in thinking. For some idiots that doesn't know anything about lawmakers affairs, let me enlighten you people a little.you've spoken like a layman. Now let me enlighten you a bit. The so called Parliamentary immunity only relates to what is said on the floor of the house. It does not in away extend to criminal acts of attempted murder, which are ipso facto offences against the state . i wish you could cite the relevant section of the constitution you referred to. There's a world of difference between a civil matter and a criminal matter. God forbid, but if anything happens to Chinda, it'll take the special grace of God for Lloyd not to be convicted and hanged for culpable homicide punishable with death a.k.a murder. Those talking about self defence obviously do not know that the trial court will evaluate if the retaliatory act of sustained bludgeoning with a club is commensurate with the knocks and slaps Lloyd was alleged to have received. Someone also mentioned involuntary manslaughter, but successfully wielding that as a defence would be an uphill task in the face of overwhelming damning evidence such as we have seen which has proven Lloyd's culpability beyond reasonable doubt . |
Prof Corruption: The whole case can be trashed in a second by invoking the principle of parliamentary immunity making the so called evidence inadmissible. Besides, the authenticity of the so called video can be contested or even questioned even though we all know actuality of the assault was unmistakable. Who would actually tender the video as exhibit-the police that's clearly a participant in the melee or the one that defence counsel would paint as incompetent? Who's the director of public prosecution in the state?parliamentary immunity ? Thats a new one o. In what section is it contained. Or is it subsumed under diplomatic immunity and gubernatorial immunity. Kindly enlighten me. On who would tender the video in evidence, i suggest you read the amended evidence Act. You should also note that the Attorney General of the Federation has the constitutional power and right to take over the prosecution of any criminal case. the Dpp is a nobody when faced with the immense powers of the AG. Wherefore rejoice? |
was in U.I then. But the gory news reverberated up to Ibadan with all its graphic details. I recall visiting OAU shortly after and was shown a spot on the floor which they said was one of the deceased's grey matter. It was indeed a very strange occurrence, considering that Ife had been hitherto totally free of cult related activities. I wonder if that case was fully investigated. May they continue resting in peace. |
Garri the 1st: GEJ is a disgrace to the office of the presidency. His greed for power will see him destroy the Nation and spill the blood of Nigerians.hope you arent engaging in mental m.a.s.t./u.r/b.a.t.i.o.n |
pls what is "bossom cancer"?? I've been on this forum since 2006. Some of These holier than thou censoring is becoming rather sanctimonious&preposterous!!! |
i think your problem could be attributable to your not being sexually active (which is a good thing, by the way). From My very limited knowledge of anatomy i know that the urethra closes up once the semen is around. You'll get over this problem, hopefully, as soon as you start copulating. So don't worry. Just put a mackintosh on your foam for now. Till you're ready to start fornicating or get married. Lol.Personally i bedwetted till i was about 14. This too will pass away. Don't feel bad. (at least its tory unlike and far far better than the anal incontinence homosexuals suffer) |
jackbauersballs: Humble carsyou write pretty good English. Terse but impactful. Nice one. |
only three types of marriages are recognised under nigerian laws. They are:Traditional Marriage, Islamic Marriage and Statutory Marriage (which the layman tagged Court Marriage, maybe because it can only be dissolved in the Court. High Court for that matter). church marriage has no place under our laws. Its seen as church blessing. In OBIEKWE V. OBIEKWE (1963) 7 ENLR 196@199 it was held that "Legally, a marriage in a church (of any denomination) is either a marriage under the ordinance or it is nothing... If the parties have not been validly married under the ordinance then either they are married under native law and custom or they are not married at all. in either case the ceremony in a church would have made not a scrap of difference to their legal status." For a church marriage to be legally recognised the church must be designated as a "Licensed Place of Worship". Wedding there would ipso facto obviate the need for a statutory wedding. You'll be shocked to know that very very few churches have bothered to obtain this license that could ultimately reduce stress for intending couples. having said that, I'm really not keen on traditional marriage and "court marriage." Wedding in a licensed parish suffices for me. |
Pope Francis on Wednesday, June 3, appointed John Cardinal Onaiyekan, as the Apostolic Administrator of Ahiara Diocese. An Administrator (Sede Vacante) serves as a caretaker until a newly chosen diocesan bishop takes possession of the diocese. According to Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Ralph Madu, the Secretary to the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, who confirmed the appointment, it was made ad nutum Santae Sedes, which means that the Cardinal will be accountable to the Holy See regarding ecclesiastical activities in Ahiara diocese. His appointment puts an end to the function of Msgr. Theo Nwalo as the administrator of the diocese. The appointment took effect by 12noon, (11am Roman time) on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. The Cardinal has already met with the presbyterium of the catholic diocese of Ahiara. The appointment of Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop of Abuja as the Administrator of Ahiara followed the controversy generated by the appointment of Fr. Peter Okpaleke as the Bishop of Ahiara by the Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI in December 2012. It would be recalled that when news of Bishop Okpaleke’s appointment was made known to the people of Mbaise, a section of the clergy and laity took to the streets in protest against the decision. They were angered that an Mbaise priest was not appointed to replace late Bishop Chikwe. Father Okpaleke however was ordained bishop of Ahiara on May 21, but the ordination took place at Seat of Wisdom Seminary in Owerri Archdiocese amid heavy security. The appointment “sends a very reprehensible signal about the status and reputation of about 500 Catholic priests that trace their origins to the soil of Mbaise, a diocese that has been globally acclaimed as the Ireland of Nigeria,” the priests said in a statement. Some priests and lay protesters saw Cardinal Francis Arinze, the retired prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, who comes from Anambra State as the force behind the appointment of Father Okpaleke. Cardinal Arinze also comes from Anambra State. The Holy See has not announced Bishop Okpaleke’s resignation from his see. Typically, the Pope appoints an apostolic administrator when a see is vacant (sede vacante), but a sede plena appointment is not unprecedented: Archbishop Joseph Miot served as Apostolic Administrator of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, from 1997 to 2008, while Archbishop François-Wolff Ligondé remained Archbishop, and Bishop Thomas Olmsted was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Gallup in 2008 while Bishop Donald Pelotte remained diocesan bishop. Founded in 1987, Ahiara Diocese was governed by Bishop Victor Chikwe, from its inception until his death in 2010. http://theleaderassumpta.com/2013/07/05/pope-appoints-cardinal-onaiyekan-administrator-of-ahiara-diocese/ |
emmmmmmm. have u all wondered where they all spat out. |
Somorin#1:You seem to be particularly interested in my offering my services to her. Well, firstly, "ambulance chasing" is not permitted under the Rules of Professional Conduct in Nigeria. The client has to seek for legal services herself, and not the other way round. (unlike in the United states and some continental jurisdictions) Secondly, I have long left the bar. I'm presently on the lower bench and so cannot ethically represent her or any one for that matter. But suffice it to say that if the errant officer is arraigned before me I will throw the book at him and visit him with the full weight of the law. |
Somorin#1:i've not begrudged him the right to express his opinion, which as you know, is like an a55hole of which everyone has one.however, in expanding his intellectual horizon and enlightening him that a "whole captain of the nigerian army" isn't a god or deity I merely expressed my own opinion also. That a person is of the military doesnt give him a right to ride roughshod over unarmed civilians. Talk less of a lady. There's no justification for that whatsoever. to think that the assault was carried out - not by a rank and file rating - but by a commissioned officer who ought to know better is even more shameful&odious. 2 years ago my court registrar suffered a similar opprobrium in the hands of some jackboots. It only took a properly couched protest letter to the right authorities to get the errant officers remanded and substantial damages paid to her. The era of wanton military brutality is long gone. Anyone still worshipping them and glorifying their bestiality is merely a pusilanimous victim of mental masturbation. |
alyarmouk: A captain of the NIGERIAN ARMY directed that all shld go inside and you were still explaining.......... he even pushed you and you had the guts to ask the captain if he cld push his sister like thati do not know how old or educated you are. But from your comment and from the way you revere a captain in manifest trepidation and subservience you're obviously a very young lad. pls who the hell is a captain in the army A very very junior officer. Just above 2nd lieutenant and lieutenant!! Some of us in this forum are his senior in government service and would be his very far senior in the military if we had toed that line. In any case does his being a captain give him the right to physically abuse an unarmed civilian thereby occasioning grievous bodily harm A lady for that matter. In my over ten years of legal practice I have come to see that "damages" is a relief few Nigerians know how to push for in court. I wish the young would emulate the other lady, Okere, who Was awarded 100 million naira in damages when she sued the Chief of Air staff for vicarious liability after his boys humiliated and dragged her on the floor in lagos. I also want to assure you that this incident would cost the captain his job. The cheek of you to call her rude for asserting her rights in the face of a brute. |
hmmmmm. When we moved to Abuja in june 1989 virtually all the houses in phase one i.e Garki, Wuse, Maitama and Asokoro were not fenced. It was so Serene, beautiful, peaceful and safe. Gradually Lagos people and the Noveau riche moved to town when government offices started moving, beginning from the very late 90s and early 2000s. Alas my dear Abuja is gradually turning to a concrete jungle. People now fence everything up including the sanitary lanes behind the flats. |
i don't know Why, but when I saw the headline this morning on Weekend Trust my mind just told me that this would definitely be happening to a southern Christian. |
I have performed the national anthem so many times with panache and distinction with the U.I students Choral Ensemble in Ibadan and my own choral group at state functions etc, here in Abuja. The simplicity of his arrangement and the sweetness of his harmony endears him to me. No wonder his own arrangement was selected out of all the entries by the Christopher Oyesiku led panel in 1978. Till date I still prefer his harmony of the anthem to other arrangements by Laz Ekwueme, Sam Ojukwu, etc which are rather too embellished and too flowery. The Abuja Choral Ensemble bids you adieu, |
having lived here since 1989 i've witnessed these chases a couple of times.i just wonder why the hawkers wouldn't suddenly stop and beat the agberos black and blue.this is a very sad story. The law is made for man. And not vice versa. |
MrNigeria.:you stayed in A14? Nice. That was my room in 97/98 session. The ceiling was broken was broken and infested with rats. Before the renovation a year later. |
Hmmmmm. I recognise the building. Though it wasn't buttery in our time. (1996-2002) Each time fire burns down a U.I structure (Queens Hall (Wooden blocks), Faculty of Arts), it takes a piece of history with it. Even if that Buttery is restructured it'll lack the old British touch. I recall when the Junior Common Room was painted and the Beautiful Art work by Demas Nwoko on the wall was covered with paint. I felt pained cos that beautiful work was painted in the 60s and served to beautify the JCR! By the way, Yours truly lived in Tedder all thru, in A64 (above the Dungeon), A14, A26, A32 and finally D7. |
