truth is that English language is taught and learnt at the primary and secondary school levels and not the universities. Universities had to introduce General Studies Courses in the 90s when it was discovered that students coming in were sadly very deficient in English and its practical use. But its not possible to learn in one semester what you couldn't learn it in 12yrs of primary and secondary education.

In some parts of the North  this wouldn't be an issue. Infact it is encouraged. unless one is rabid about law practice, I see no reason why anyone should pidgeon-hole himself. Almost every organisation or Govt body in Nigeria has a legal department. Recently EFCC advertised. Some state Judiciaries provide for Legal Assistants for Judges. I think one ought to look farther and wider. I believe law practice is a calling, requiring divine patience. (did someone say 7k?)

On Abuja, a couple of the newly sworn in Judges are looking for Legal Assistants. You might want to give it a look in.
