Lagos Embassy. 6:30am slot. One white male like that.

VO: Good morning. Pass me your passport and I20.
Me: Good morning. There you go. (passed docs)

VO: Which course do you want to study in the US?
Me: MS in mechanical engineering at the California State university Sacramento.....

VO: (cuts in) Why mechanical?
Me: (still speaking)..... I'll be concentrating in Manufacturing and Material Engineering.

VO: OK. Why manufacturing?
Me: Presently, the Nigerian manufacturing industry is faced with a lot of challenges, many of which affect the quality of products we put out and the efficiency of our production processes. From my experience in the field, I've been able to identify some of these challenges, and I see them as opportunities. Last year I co-founded and registered a digital startup, and our medium to long-term goal for the business is to advance solutions and technologies to help increase machine performance, reduce wastes and speed up transformation (stuttered here for a second) of industrial processes and automation in the Nigerian manufacturing industry. This master's course for me is a significant (stuttered here for a second again) step towards achieving that goal.

VO: ok. Who's paying for your program?
Me: My uncle is my sponsor.

VO: What does he do?
Me: He's the ceo of *****, a tech company here in Lagos.

VO: Have you traveled out of Nigeria before?
Me: No. I'm a very busy person and never really had any reason to travel, until now.

VO: Are you married?
Me: No

VO: Any kids?
Me: No.

VO: (eyes on the screen the entire time) I'm sorry, at this time, you do not qualify for... Yen yen yen... (hands the blue paper). This will explain more.
Me: Alright. Thank you. (collects blue paper and walks away)

Other info:
I have a B.eng in chemical engineering, with 6 months graduate internship experience and 1 year nysc experience ; all around manufacturing. I've been running a co-founded registered startup for over 5 months now, while preparing for grad school.

Also, my school's orientation is today, I tried getting an extension of resumption letter from the school, but the lady said they don't provide such, but that she'd make a note on my file for a make up orientation to be arranged when I arrived. I went with a printout of the email today, but was not asked about that.

Please I need a critical assessment of the above convo. What might be the possible cause of the denial. I'm considering planning towards fall, but I need to know what areas I can improve on before then, aside traveling for the aim of gaining travel experience though.

Guys, I need advice.

Your interview was good. but i think the VO wasnt convinced why you were changing your course. I will advice you re fire. GOODLUCK

Hi guys
You all remember aduku1, one of the guys who said he was approved and later refused with passport returned back to him.

Because i was unsure as to what might have negated the subsequent refusal, I scheduled another interview which i went for on the 2nd of January, 2019.

At the interview i was told that I submitted a fake document(bank Statement which was the only document I submitted) while i was insisting that the bank statement wasnt fake as it was that of my mother, the interviewer told that the banks confirmed same. and that i have been banned for life from entering the US for submitting a fake bank statement.

Because i was sure the bank statement aint fake, i and my mum went to the banks involved, i even wrote a protest letter to the banks on the issue. Upon investigation the banks stated it clearly that they were never contacted, one of the banks even showed me list of the persons who US embassy requested for their bank information and my name wasnt there.


Both banks then issued me a letter and another bank statement with current funds contained in them.


I have now sent a letter to the US embassy with documents supporting my claim. I am sure their decision of ban was done in error, but that is really inappropriate and bitter. I really do hope they look into my file and resolve same.

While i might not even be bothered about the issuance of the visa, i really want my name to be cleared of the allegation because it has really affected me and my reputation as a person and lawyer will be tanished by such, also for posterity sake.

At the moment i am really pained but i believe God is incharge.

I will give you guys more update as things upfold.

This is a serious case because it difficult and its takes a long time for the US embassy to resolve any case they feel is fraudulent.
Fact is: you might not come to the US in a long time.
Which is why is advise you get a lawyer to look into your case while you do something worth while with your time.

The government shutdown here is only partial. Its not suppose to affect US embassies over the world

i am sorry my testimony is coming late. i hope it helps raise the hope of Nigerian youths seeking greener pastures here.

My brief HIstory:
i have been denied USA student visa in 2013, 2014 and 2015
i then turned my dreams to canada in 2016 (paid my school fees in full and was still denied student visa in 2016 after waiting over 3months)
at this point my money was almost finished and my family started advising me to start studies here in nigeria
I also tried Germany in 2016 was also denied

i enrolled for yaba tech part time program while i also chased my travel dreams in Germany. i was also denied visa to germany because i couldn't raise the 8,800 euro blocked account.

at this point, i was frustrated and desperate, but the work load from yabatech and my business kept me from depression.

immediately, after my graduation in Yaba i decided to give USA one last trial knowing fully well that i will be denied but i kept on pushing forward

my interview went thus:
first, my interview was for 6;30 13th august 2018 but for the first time i got to the embassy very late and i was not scared or nervous. it rained heavily that day and the rain no pity me at all.
i just protected my documents and went it. i was very cold and feeling sick. i just wanted to do my interview and leave. i was bending down to make my self warm and was almost sleeping before the person behind me told me that it was my turn.

My interview was very long.........

my interview: (a Beautiful black american woman):
VO: Hi there. are you okay?
Me; Hi. yes i am fine. i am just cold. with fake smile on my face.
VO: oh okay why are you going to the USA?
Me; for my undergrad studies in Business Administration and management

Me; 2012
VO; what have you been doing since:
Me; I went for a computer diploma program for a year. then i started applying to Universities in US, Canada, Germany and Nigeria. Things didnt go as planned with the Abroad studies so i went for my National diploma in yaba that took me 4years.
VO: Why did you choose to continue studies in US? why not nigeria?
me: the educational system in nigeria is really poor even though it is affordable to study in nigeria. my program for example is suppose to be a program of 2 years but due to the strike and poor educational amenities it will take me longer time to graduate here in Nigerian university. And i believe in the proverb; "what is what doing is what doing well"
VO: Why do you Change your course?
Me; briefly after my studies i open a Human Hair Business with the financial assistance from my uncle but i need more board knowledge in the field of business. thats why i decided to change my program to help me business grow when i return to Nigeria.

Me; Presently, i have filled my sister in on the basic things she needs to know to keep the business alive until i return

ME; i passed her CAC document and business bank statement with just 400k in it

VO: Why?
Me; He has been the one funding my education due to the death of my father in 2007
VO: what does he do?
Me; He is a medical doctor

Me: Passed his bank statement

Me; Yes ( at this point i thought i will be denied)

Me; He is a citizen
Vo: do you have his tax clearance?

*starts Typing endlessly as i was waiting for my denial letter*
God surprised me as she raised her head and gave me the White paper and said the magical words

My family cant still believe it until the day they excorted me to the airport with tears of Joy in the eyes of my Lovely mom

I got to US on December 4th, Cold has been dealing with me since....

I give thanks to God for the delay i faced before because He was using it to help me build a business for my self here in Nigeria.
i wore simple native attire, went last with so many red flags and still got the visa. It can only be God.

Had my interview today. To be honest with you all ehn. I cannot comprehend all I said to get the white paper. It was like something else assumed me. I'm saying because I can't give a transcript and I know I learnt a lot from reading people's transcript.

It was my first time though.
It was an MBA program with focus on financial management and investment.
Lincoln university California is the school.

But my advice is simple. Know well about the course you are going for. Please don't cram.

Me: I worked with xyz company then got another job later in Jan 2018 with xyz as an admin staff.
Vo: who's paying for your tuition?
Me: my aunt, and I stated her name.
Vo: the account you've got here shows a November balance, I'd prefer it was printed in DEC
Me: I got her to provide it cos she was about travelling and I was hoping to get an earlier date
Vo: okay, I'll like you to get the most recent account statement at least showing her December balance
* then she brings out the yellow paper for admin processing.
As she was about passing it to me, she asked if I was aware I would be banned if I presented any fake documents.

I live in Lagos but now in abj for my interview.
Hope to get the whole stuff settled by Thursday or Fri then sit down and sip on some juice as I watch God finish his work.

you dont have any problem bro.
just give them the need full and tell your country to put more money in it. You can even extend the statement till date if December statement was not strong enough.

How did you get this school?

Firstly from Prof Taylor who is a professor of Economics at CMU and I did my personal research about the school

How many schools did you apply to?
CMU, WSU, MSU and WIU

Why did you apply to those schools?


they all have low faculty to student ratio, which means faculty members can spend more time working individually with student

Note the resumption date on my i20 is also the same day my school resumes. (interview 7th of Jan and school resumes same 7th of Jan )

depends on the type of application. but most times it is not advisable for an undergraduate to tell them that he or she has been working (especially when the work doesnt relate to your field of study). My two cents

Also, the Curriculm at TAMUK is designed in such a way that it permits flexibility. That's is to say it will allow me choose from electives in other programmes like operations research and numerical analysis that are in line with my career interest.

They also have great faculties and excellent research facilities like the Javelina algebra computer laboratory and the James C. Jernigan library which is one of the largest library in the whole of Texas with over 600,000 volumes of print books, journals and government publications.

to me, i think your interview is not so bad but i think the vo needed to hear what has changed in your application since she didnt see any change in you ds 160.
take me for example: my first 3 previous interviews were more of the same
but my 4th interview, there were alot of significant difference (in ds160 and orally) like;

the time difference was 3years,
change of sponsor.
Had a business i was handling in Nigeria.
change in course of study
admission for more universities and different countries(6) with admission letters
and a Degree from a Nigerian polytechnic .......

I think you should take some time off since this was your third time and try other countries, work on other things as i wish you the very best. GOODLUCK

The only thing i can deduce from his interview that lead to his denial is the sponsorship part, don't know if i am wrong ...





Now here is a recent development, he has decided to give it another trial and his interview is this week, he has been offered a GA by his department only if he resumes this spring with a letter to support it. so i would like to ask the gurus what they think about this recent development can this letter be of any help in helping him secure his visa ??.... my concern is that the specific GA Benefits which should include i think its monthly stipend was not included in that letter

yes i wrote SAT and TOEFL but they both expired before my interview date. even some of my i-20s from other universities were expired

its simple:

First of all is PRAYER and FASTING

treat the interview as a conversation.
try to be confident even though you are nervous.
try to be honest to the best of your knowledge.
make sure your documents are cordinated
you might hear a lot of denials but dont let the out come of other people interviews intimidate you. FOCUS

I come in here once in a while to check the forum and majorly search for members that need help with info about Concordia University of Edmonton or Edmonton as a whole. I have been reading recently and it is sad to see folks are really being refused on per second billing these days.

I want to believe there are still gurus here, even though I can't see the likes of Femmy, Oga Siga, Britiko, Playpays that were here in 2013.

A little advice;

Please y'all should ensure that your sponsors have previous history of assistance provided to you prior to deciding they want to help you with school. That way, you will be distinguished from those who are just arranging sponsors - and even if it is arranged and you still manage to show previous assistance history, then even VO will clap and say "well play, you too get sense. We want people like you".

An example will be
(1) Sponsor's account statement showing that he/she paid for your school admission fee or visa application fee; guys, these small things matter
(2) Sponsor's account showing probably a monthly or bi-monthly assistance

Please do not just use any sponsor with zero history of one assistance or the other; I believe it shows genuineness and disproves you are just begging the person to use his/her account for visa purposes. Believe me, as y'all know, even one's uncle or aunt can be arranged on the terms that you will only use the account and he/she will have nothing to do with payment of your school fees once visa is out. VOs are not dumb folks...

Above all, it is not of him that runneth nor of him that willeth, but of God that showeth mercy. The God-factor is still the priority!

I gained admission to university of Manitoba for the university one program and want to submit visa application for january. bsc degree

my profile;
am 23yrs now
my sponsor is my uncle who is a medical doctor in the USA.
I finished sec school 2010 wrote GCE 2012 was denied US study visa 3times 2013, 2014, 2015.
turned my sights to Canada but was denied early this year with Conestoga college after paying part tuition. requested for my immigration file; the VO said that I am young, single with no dependant. Concerns why I don't want to study in Nigeria as i am using study visa to gain entry into Canada. concerns that money will not be made available to me since all documents submitted are from a third party.
I go advise from some folks on nairaland to apply one more time, this time I should submit the app myself as agents just fill anything they like in one's application. more over the agent I used before is charging N150k after collecting 315k in my first canada app. I don't have such to pay for something that is not guaranteed. My uncle has gradually deposited 1m naira into my account for stipends for one year in Canada and has promised to pay tuition as he did before in my previous application that was refused.
I need assistance submitting the application for January. I need to write a good SOP to cover the gap from what I understand here.

got my original docs from the embassy this morning with a denial letter.
