Hey guys!!!
Happy to see that this waxing strong
Shoutout to y’all for helping and learning from each other.
I want to use this opportunity to encourage my fellow youths.
A quick reminder of my visa struggle;
Got denied student visa in 2013, 2014, 2015 denied Canadian visa in 2016 and German visa 2016. I got admission to yaba tech and started my business on the side. Against all odds, I applied for US visa in 2018 and was approved after answering a zillion questions with a very calm face and a face that hoped for the worse.

I’m in New Jersey and will be graduating in December.

God has been with me through all my struggles in America.

It can only be God guys. I hope this helps someone on here.
Keep the faith and keep grinding.
God bless America

Hello Everyone,
Congrats to those that got their visas approved and hope everyone is staying stay.
I have a question:
I heard the Immigration Bill (No change of status) Trump passed in 2019 restricts Nigerian Non-immigrant visa holders from changing their status to Immigrant status.
For example: An f1 student or B1/B2 visa cannot fall in love and or get married to a US citizen and eventually apply for and obtain a green card or citizenship while studying in the US?
How true is this?
Can someone please clarify this.
Thank you.

Hmmm... Dont quote me on this but I think this was also affected by Trump's immigration ban on Nigeria. Ask the "gurus" in the house. I know he banned Nigerians from receiving immigrant visa in Nigeria.

I have missed this trend. This year has been a crazy one for us all. Stay safe yall.

Guys. Please can I use my cousin or aunty's in america bank statement to get my i20? While I and my sisters work on building the ones we plan to use for the interview.

The i20 just has self or sponsors as means of funding. Also can that my cousin aslo be used as sponsors in the visa interview.

My cousin in american and works in nigeria. Her job is in the us and still gets paid there.\

What I am trying to say is using my cousin now for i20 and possibly using my sisters for visa. Is that any red flag?

Please please advice.

If your i-20 reads family funds then you are fine But if your i-20 reads a different thing from your DS160 then in Spartacus's words: "you and your VO will break words"..... grin grin grin grin

I strongly believe you would obtain first hand information on VISA processes from EducationUSA since it operates under the auspices of the US Embassy.

"EducationUSA is a U.S. Department of State network of over 400 international student advising centers in more than 170 countries. EducationUSA is officially a branch in the Office of Global Educational Programs in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs." Wikipedia

may be they have changed but i think they are there to vet and discourage students grin grin grin

Good morning house, does anyone know how effective and useful EducationUSA is when it comes to Visa processes?

dont even go there, they will discourage you.
I went there after my second visa denial and the woman used me as example to other students. walspring can relate grin grin.

In education USA at the embassy they say you cant study in the US if you are using GCE result,
you cant study in the US if you have been denied US visa before
you cant study in the US if you have been out of school for more than 6 months or there about
you cant study in the US if you dont have a direct sponsor
and of course you cant study in the US if you are using OLUWOLE BANK STATEMENT grin grin

EducationUSA said i was not qualified to study in the US but to God be all the glory i am in the US now with a GCE Result, 3 Previous Visa denials, been out of school for more than 3 years and my uncle that we dont bear same last name is my sponsor.. (i wish i had their number i would have called them to tell them to stop discouraging Nigerian students)

you can go to them for extra knowledge but DONT LET WHAT THEY SAY DISCOURAGE YOU,. GOOD LUCK

Yeah, i heard this too.
My colleague at work said his brother was denied b1/b2 today.
He read it in the news that trump increased visa denials by 40% from africa.
Until i see proof i refuse to believe because the denial rate in africa (especially Nigeria) has always been high.

Good day house, I have a Master's degree in physical Chemistry, I wish to apply for another Master's degree in Chemical Engineering in the US. I have been reading on this forum that a Bsc to Bsc or an Msc to Msc doesn't always fly with the VOs. Should I apply for a PhD instead ? In which case my undergraduate GPA isnt so good (2.5/ 5.0).but my Msc GPA is 3.98/5.0 and i intend to write GRE and TOEFL. Thank you.

its easier to go for PHD and physical Chemistry is not a bad course. Unless you can convince the Vo why you want to go for another masters degree. GOODLUCK

Hey! Guys, I need help from anyone who has been an undergraduate in the USA. I'm a continued undergraduate student in the US. My DSO keeps asking me for bank statement or proof of ability to pay in order to update my SEVIS record every semester. I don't owe any money so far. But is this request right? I'm the only international student in my school, it's a small school. I'm enrolled full-time. I pay my tuition as cash comes but no large sum of money kept anywhere to show. What if I don't show her this semester, she will refuse to update my SEVIS record and I will become illegal. Is this the same requirement in other schools before your SEVIS is updated.

well, most schools request for bank statements every semester, some request yearly while some request when you want to transfer or take sick leave. You can just get a relative from Nigeria to send you one and you will be fine. GOODLUCK

Hello everyone. I had my F-2 interview at Lagos Consulate on the 28th of January with my child and below is the transcript of what transpired.
VO: Pass your passport. I obliged.
VO: Which school is your husband studying.
Me: The University of “the state” in “city”.
VO: What is his program?
Me: PhD program
VO: When did he leave?
Me: He left on date, month, 2017.
VO: When did you get married?
Me: Mentioned date, month, 2014.
VO: How many children you do have?
Me: We have only one child and he is here with me.
VO: When will he finish his program.?
Me: I quickly used my hand to count and replied 2021/2022 because I know his PhD will take 4 to 5 years.

VO: How many years will you spend in the United States?
Me: I will like to be with my husband because it has been difficult since he left, my……

I am sorry for the delay.
you gave the wrong answer here. F2 is a non immigrant visa but your answer sounded like you want to use your husband's F1 status to migrate to the US. You could have just said i will spend 3months even if you plan to migrate

And Generally i believe its easier to get b1/b2 visa than to get the F2 visa. GOODLUCK

My two cents though

She cut me off, said sorry you are not qualified at this time and gave me rejection paper.
Note that the VO didn’t request for my I-20 and didn’t look at it. She didn’t ask for any other document. In fact, she wasn’t looking at me throughout the interview but was just typing. I would have liked to ask her why she denied me but it only came to my mind after I left.
Please help me scrutinize the transcript and suggest what I can do better. The denial has really been difficult for me to take. I do plan to reapply immediately and any suggestion will be useful. Thank you.

Ok here.. January 9th 1st interview
VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning
VO: you want to go for studies in the US
Me: yes
Voice : how many schools did you apply to
Me: one

Am sorry for the delay but you obviously didnt gather enough information prior to your interview.
This is where you need to put in small lie that you applied to 3 or more universities ven if you didnt. VOs believe that applying to more universities shows some kind of seriousness

VO: why
Me: it was recommended and.... (Voice Cuts me short
VO: I said why
Me: I have done my research on the school and course I am going for and I have seen that the standard of the school..... ( cuts me short)
VO: under the immigration law you don't qualify for a student visa.

2nd interview
Me: Good morning
VO: when did you finish secondary school
Me: 2014
VO: what have you been doing prior to your application
Me: I have been working and also going for catering class
VO: sorry ( returns passport and I -20)

we need to see some information from your ds 160 so the Gurus on the trend can advise.

Me: yes I applied to 4 different schools University of Cincinnati, University of New Haven, Eastern Illinois University and Eastern Michigan University

Vo: why APSU
Me: apart from the fact that I was awarded a graduate teaching assistant at Austin Peay state university, most importantly the research that is ongoing by Dr. Jiang Li at the department of Computer Science on the implementation of machine learning on network performance, troubleshooting and monitoring align with my career interest and the school also allow me to choose course from other departments which is an added advantage for me to equip me and make me a better data engineer and a good network architect .

Me: I will be helping my lecturer to mark, grade and also records student marks and also teaches some undergraduate course
Vo: Do you know the professor you will be working with?
Me: yes sir Professor Matt Jones
Vo: who will be paying for your tuition
Me: I have a full scholarship that covers my full tuition with monthly stipend and my aunt will take care of the deficit

Vo types again for another 2mins
I was like what is this guy looking at, hope I have not bleeped up like this.
This guy no ask me normal questions wey I prepare for. I was just praying and looking at white paper on his table with the pink paper
VO: where us your school located
Me: It is located in Clarksville Tennessee
VO: have you traveled to any country before
Me: No sir
Vo: have you applied for Canadian Visa before
Me: No sir
Voice types for some minute and say the golden word, your visa has been approved this paper will show you how to get your passport.
I was extremely happy
It was all Gods grace. Alhamdulilah my prayers and fasting did not go in vain.

Hello house, the statement of account I intend to use is an account set aside a few years ago by my Grandma towards my education. Is this good enough? P.S, she is retired

I dont know how the embassy will react to this during your interview.

But my honest advise is:
If your interview is still far, you can have your Grandma move the Funds to your dad or Mum's account Little by little.
Good luck
