tonychristopher:Check my signature kid. I have managed leading corporate accounts and still doing so. I have planned digital campaign you might have engaged in. Why do "corporate" bodies create ads in pidgin? Don't you listen to jingle and TV commercials? Free lecture, your consumer insight controls your communication strategy (voice/tone). Do you need more lectures on branding, digital marketing, social media management and PR? |
Jacko1:Sorry bro, you're still growing. Read more! |
I beg to differ. This is about brand communication strategy (voice and tone) and understanding of the uniqueness of Social Media platforms. Unfortunately, Sterling Bank Plc is using Gen X language on a Gen Y platform and that will create a disconnect between them and the TG. On the other hand Diamond Bank Plc is using the right text language/format to sell to the right TA on the right platform. SMS Text format is excusable on Twitter. This shade backfires on Sterling Bank. Diamond Bank is selling "esusu" banking. Who is the Target Audience of this package? Millennial youths who are fun-loving, energetic, social and trendy. This TA communicates in abbreviation. I think this is a strategic communication plan by Diamond and should not have been viewed as spelling deficiency. Sterling should not judge Diamond from its (Sterling) brand perspective. dnoblest |

I don come again with another epistle. This time I'll like us to talk about something very interesting - office romance. Ghen ghen! Office romance occurs when two people who work in the same organization starts “seeing” each other. ![]() It is not very difficult to fathom why. We spend an average of 8-9 hours most days of our lives for the next 35 years at work so it was not surprising when a study showed that the office keeps coming up as the number 1 place people find love. Different examples of people who have found love at work abound but I think the most popular story will remain that of the Lawyer wife of POTUS - Michelle Obama. Michelle and Barrack Obama met when they were working together at the Chicago branch of their law firm and eventually got married. Chai, Mazi Obama just dey tap Orente Michelle for dem chambers. ![]() This is just one of the many beautiful romantic stories about office relationships. However, not all that glitters is gold. While it is possible for an office romance to end in marriage, actually only about 32% of such actually does and over 69% of people who have engaged in workplace relationship have had to live with the consequence when it failed. Here are some interesting workplace statistics - 40% of workplace population has dated a co-worker. - 18% has had more than twice an office relationship in their career. - 14% of workers have dated their boss while 19% admitted to dating their subordinate. - 47% of people who work in the hospital industry are likely to date a co-worker. - 37% of people who were dating have to keep their relationship secret. - 59% of us will date a co-worker at one point or another in our career. - 7% of a recent survey says there is someone in their office they will to date. We may not be able to advise if you should date a colleague or not. It is left for you to decide if it is worth it but here are some rules of engagement for workplace romance: Rule 1: Know the territory where you operate The first rule of thumb for office romance is to understand your company’s policy regarding interpersonal relationships. In the past, it was not unusual for companies to frown on workplace relationship but there is now a fundamental shift from the past. While some companies e.g. CISCO are not discriminating against any form of interpersonal relationship in their workplace, it is still important that you understand your own company policies and what it says regarding workplace dating and marriage among colleagues. Like mine, most companies frown against interpersonal relationship among colleagues due to lots of reasons while others do not either encourage or discourage it. Rule 2: Work Comes First! Romance is second and becomes a major problem when employees focus too much on the extracurricular instead. Work is the reason why you have your current job title so keep that prioritised above all else. You are not indispensable; no one is! Rule 3: Do not date your boss or subordinate Fancy your boss or subordinate? It is a no go area. Dating your boss or subordinate can have its own thrill but the consequences are usually higher. This is because there is a lot at stake when the relationship crosses the command line. It might result in a career roadblock or can give rise to blackmail should the relationship suddenly end on a back note. It might also lead to gossip when the person you dating gets a career rise or pay rise. Even when it is merited, tongues will wag. ![]() Rule 4: Stay off each other at work While it might make sense to want to spend some time together when at work especially when you work together on the same project or in the same unit, sneaking behind the office rest room or behind close doors is forbidden. Keep display of personal affection to when you meet outside the office. Public display of affection might be frowned at by other co-workers and can be a huge distraction. Stay off each other pathway as much as possible and this includes sending personal information using your official email address. Rule 5: Know when it is over and out Like all things either good or bad especially in a relationship, there comes a time when it fizzles out. Workplace relationship is not immune to the complexity involved in all relationship. Over time, the spark dwindles and everyone moves on. You need to understand this risk and when it is over, please move on. Cupid can be funny. You really cannot tell when and where it will shoot its arrow. So follow these rules should you find yourself attracted to a co-worker and oh, by all means, keep it private. Do you want to be indispensable at work? Okay, let's be honest, nobody is indispensable especially at work. However, there are certain tips and strategies that you can start applying today to help you build a strong brand for yourself and make you almost indispensable at work especially at this time of economic downturn in Nigeria. 1. Take ownership and do not be afraid to lead: Companies and bosses want people who are not afraid to take ownership and lead. Since great leaders are made not born, the best way to become a leader at work is to be willing to take ownership of projects. Is the company starting a new project/scheme/ product? Do not be afraid to volunteer and lead. The good thing about this is that you will get noticed and it will be for a good reason. 2. Embrace change: “The only constant thing, they say, is change”. How you react to the change is what will determine if it will have a positive or a negative impact on you. It is usually not advisable to swim against the tide. What then should you do? Embrace the change and wait for an opportunity to turn it into a positive one. 3. Be extraordinary by going the extra mile: The difference between being ordinary and extra-ordinary is the 'extra' in the 'ordinary'. Always be willing to go the extra mile. Be willing to do extra work that might be assigned to you, be willing to work a little late and be willing to help make other people’s job easier. Simply put, do the extra. 4. Know what matters to the company: No matter what your role is, your worth will be measured by how much value you can add to the company’s bottom line. This is why it is important to know what matters to the company and position your job role to help the company achieve its aim. 5. Offer solutions to problem(s) in your area: Are the people in your department or unit struggling with a particular issue you can proffer solutions to? Do not wait to be called. Always be the problem solver and be willing to lend a helping hand. 6. Know what matters to your boss: If your boss is passionate about a particular project or job, then it is your duty to also be passionate about the same job. If you are not getting along well with your boss, it might simply be because you both are working in opposite direction. Find out what your boss cares about and help them get it done. 7. Focus on results and not on processes: Nobody cares how long or how much effort you have put into a work to get results. What the company and your boss care about is what results (KPI) you can show for your efforts. It is therefore important to focus more on activities that can help you get results rather than on the processes you have to go through to get it done. 8. Aim for excellence: Need I say more about this? Aim for excellence. Excellence is a value that you should seek to achieve. Make your work stand out by paying little attention to details. Have a presentation to deliver, make it beautiful and appealing apart from filling it up with the required details. 9. Excel in a few skills: You cannot be everything to everyone. Pursue a few set skills and become the go-to-person for that skill. I noticed a skill-gap in photography at my workplace. The company had to pay freelance photographers for any event or content requiring photography coverage. Next I enrolled in a cinematography school and within 3 months I was already the go-to-person for shoots. Even the MD/CEO had a professional photo shoot courtesy of mine new skills. I've been able to save cost and develop more contents for my company. 10. Keep your promises to the manager and colleagues: Promises are meant to be broken? No and especially not at work. Never break promises made either to your manager, boss or colleagues. Keep your words and if there is need for any change, communicate this as early as possible. 11. Network extensively: How far you will go in 3 - 5 years time will be determined by the quality of your network. Start building your network now so that when you need it, you will already have them in place. Luckily, technology has come to play a huge role in how we relate in the 21st century. Leverage on the social and professional media to get started and do not forget to build personal offline relationships with people. 12. Keep up with advancement in your fields: I once heard a story of someone who submitted her CV to a recruitment firm and unfortunately was not called for interview. Nine (9) years later, she was called and was asked to bring a copy of her recent CV. Guess what? She came and submitted the same CV she submitted 9 years ago. During the interview process, she was asked why nothing changed on her CV. Her reply was that it was because nothing really had changed. This means she did not add any qualification or skill set to her person. I am sure no one will want to employ such a person. 13. Be a thought leader in your field: One of the ways to excel at work is to become a thought leader in your field. This means you need to know everything and anything that is important in your field that can help you carry out your task easier and better. No one in your company should know more than you in your niche. 14. Ignore distractions and focus on your objectives: What are your career objectives? How do they fit into your role and daily duties? Do you have a clear set of goals you want to achieve? Knowing all these will keep you from being distracted either with politics in the office or any other thing that can cause distraction and derail you from your set objectives. 15. Take initiatives: Do not wait to be told what to do. If you know that there is a particular report or task that you need to do on a regular basis, then do not wait to be told to perform the task. Anticipate tasks and get it done without being told. 16. Always be willing to share knowledge: An indispensable worker will not be he who has all the knowledge but someone who is willingly to share them as well. By sharing your knowledge, you help other appreciate what you do and what it means. When your boss understands what you know and how you do, he or she begins to understand and appreciate you better. 17. Anticipate your boss‘s needs and make yourself invaluable: Anticipate your boss’s needs and make yourself available. Help them do their job and you will come in handy for recommendation when the need arises. 18. Seek to gain more knowledge: Attend seminars, career fairs and lectures. Do not wait for the company to send you for a training before you attend them. This is because these trainings are ultimately for you and will only help you become a better person. Do not wait until the company is training her staff. 19. Develop good judgment and do not be afraid to stand up: Develop a sense for good judgment and do not be afraid to speak up either for yourself or your colleagues. 20. Stay sharp mentally and have a positive attitude: It is often said that a bad attitude is like a flat tire. It won’t take you anywhere. Develop a good attitude towards everything; the company, your boss and your work. There is more where this came from >> HERE |

Electoralis Federalis came and lo did the people in the land put thumb to ballot to choose the King (or Queen) of the 37 Kingdoms. Yea, were there many contenders but the battle rested between incumbent King Gejoshaphat and King from times and quadrannia past, Gambrach. Key to electoralis was Jegatrix, of parts yet unknown, the Head Umpire. Also key, were the respective Hands chosen by Gejoshaphat and Gambrach, namely Osinoshin (for Gambrach) and Sombre (for Gejoshaphat). Electoralis had been charged with high drama. They looked for the Scroll de Minimis of Gambrach, they sought the Postularis Maximus of Gejoshaphat; but most of all, they sought chill. Electoralis Federalis had unleashed an Armageddon of unchill across all of Social Mediana and Twillistia. After ink had been put to thumb and used to seal ballots across the land, Jegatrix summoned all from far and wide to witness the proclamation of the King of the 37 Kingdoms for the next quartrannium. One following the other, each kingdoms umpire brought forth his papyrus of proclamation to report to Jegatrix how each kingdom had elected. And all who witnessed it declared that it was good. From Ekitilopia, to Ondonia, to Gidiopolis; from Imossotamia to Onyenkuzistan did male and female, old and young emerge from house and under umblerra to make their votes known. And they watched the grand presentation of Jegatrix and they saw that it was good. But in that hour arose one man, DeoVolenti, a Padipalian from the kingdom of Rivisinia, risible and enraged. And yes though the subject of his enragement befuddled onlookers, he was not deterred. DeoVolenti seized the voice magnifier and with a loud voice called unto Jegatrix. “Jegatrix!! Thou art much biased a head umpire! Unfairness is thy middle name! See thou this papyrus in my hand? Look! Tis evidence of your machinations!” The eyes of world turned to Jegatrix, to hear his response to DeoVolenti. And they wondered if a graven image had been placed in the seat of Jegatrix in his place, for no muscle on his body moved and neither did a thread of his robes ripple. Yet did DeoVolenti remain steadfast. “Jegatrix!! Thou man of ethnic leaning and unjust manifestations! Canst thou not hear me? Thou knave of Gambrach-leaning dross! Behold again this papyrus which I wave in anger so righteous! Take ye heed – if thou wouldst not do unto the Baucheeans as thou didst to unto the Rivisinians, then shall I not depart this place. And yea, will we Padipalians will lay siege to this proclamation arena.” And lo, did DeoVolenti sit in the middle of the proclamation arena, yielding no quarter even to the centurions that sought to relieve him, and the proclamation arena, of the temporary malady. Yet did Jegatrix not flinch. Not a sinew twitched on his entire body. No ripple ran across the fabric of his copious robes. And the people of Social Mediana beheld it and asked themselves, “What manner of man is DeoVolenti? Is his title not ‘elder’?” A disciple of DeoVolenti volunteered the reply, saying, “Know ye not, that he merely doeth his work?” To which a Twilistine replied with promptness, “This fulfilleth an ancient prophecy. Hear Ye again the Tword, as it is written in the sacred book of Lateefus Kayodexicus, ‘What kind of job he doing? He’s not the only dat dey there!” And yea, did the people nod in unison. And yet still, had Jegatrix not moved. And the people of Social Mediana beheld it and asked themselves, “What manner of man is Jegatrix? The vituperations of DeoVolenti move him not. He flincheth or speaketh not.” Finally, Jegatrix moved and reached for the voice magnifier. With placid mien, he spake unto DeoVolenti. “Oh, DeoVolenti, of the house of Padipalia, in the sub-kingdom of Rivisinia! Thou speaketh the words of a commoner. Thou shewest not the nobility of your station, as a courtesan of King Gejoshaphat. Careful that the word thou spillest, condemneth not thee.” Presently, DeoVolenti departed from the proclamation arena. And, in a season of turbulent, meteorologically phantasmagorical unchill, chill descended upon the land. Yea, did the Social Medianites and Digital Perusites behold it and ask themselves in disbelief, “WHAT MANNER OF MAN IS JEGATRIX!?!? Is he a freakin’ stealer of chill, for unchill hath long pervaded our land.” And then the Tword came to the Chronicler, “Jegatrix is neither of this land nor time. If thou seekest his origins, thou wouldst go to the land of Arendelle and mention the name of his ancestor Queen Elsa, who starreth as main actress in Frozen, a disneycal story of the most epic chill. Jegatrix is spawn of Elsa and Guardian Jack Frost. Listen, son of man, chronicler of chill, and say to the people of Social Mediana and Digital Perusia, Jegatrix stealeth not their chill; get thou it not twisted. JEGATRIX. IS. CHILL.” SOURCE
