Remember that an Anioma man(Chukwuma Nzeorgu) lead the coup that caused the Civil war.... We live in hard times... But the end justifies the means.... I'm sorry for trying to derail your thread. I don't dislike Igbos... I'm not just a tribal bigots and I was trying to create an awareness for my ethnic group and not to be muscled up with the lager igbo ethnic. People feel its the Ijaws, Itshekiris, Urhobos that made up the larger Delta.... I'm just trying to correct their impression that the Ukwuanis is the second largest ethnic group in Delta. More so, the topic says igboid (having to do with language spoken by various groups)... Check my initial response, I said Ukwuani is 90% igboid (Igbo Language)..... But we are so close to the ijaws and itshekiris.. We share same culture with them 90%.. Now you see what I mean! |

Just love to be called with what we really are) we are Deltans or Anioma or if you want to be specific you say Ukwani, Aniocha or Ika.
To your question, generally it's not expensive unless of course the family is a greedy one. In my place the bride price is returned and the traditional marriage is hosted by the brides family with or without the support of the grooms family while the groom's family sponsors the church/court or whatever marriage they choose to do. May God bless you for taking such a stand.... I had terrible experience on a thread about me being an ukwuani man and not to be called an Igbo. Family › Re: Wife Insisted I Greet Her After She Have Given Me Food by donshaddow(m): 1:33pm On May 03, 2015 |
I'm sorry I'll have to be blunt on this issue.
1. You said its not in your culture to greet after meal.
2. She demands it from you.
3. You naturally forget.
4. You had issues with her.
I will take it one step after another.
Marriage means 2 people with different background and ideology coming together.
Respect is earned and can never be demanded, otherwise it becomes authoritarian.
For the fact that its not in your culture neither is it in your upbringing and your wife wanna introduce such a foreign character to you, it takes time for you to even master it.
Even, you might never master it or get comfortable with it because you behavior will be fully mature when you become an adult and its hard for something else to be included in it.
Women are hard generally, and they don't reason the way men reasons.
She should force such thing on you to respect or appreciate her when she cooks.. Does she say thank you when you fulfill your manly duty at home?
She's just like my elder sister who nags at every opportunity not knowing she's pushing her younger ones away from her. No one wants to live with her because she wants you to say 'ma', tell you what to do. Say good morning, ask before you pee, ask where you are going and if you forget to tell her she says you're irresponsible.
My brother, I don't intend to write an epistle here, it demands on how close you are to her and how attentive she can be, and if she can compromise her 'standard' and accommodate your error (not greeting), then your marriage is good to go.
Sit her up, tell her its not that you don't appreciate her efforts and contribution in the family, but you're not used to saying thank you after meal.
If she agrees, then you'll live happily ever after. Otherwise you're forced to adjust.
Otherwise, you'll have to do her wishes, and if you do that, she controls the house. Then you'll become the slave.
Sorry to say the truth because that's exactly what I will do. |

maggystar: I love tribal marks. I've always been very fascinated by them but, I'm not African and there seems to be a stigma. LOL! Well, its quiet interesting though. There's difference between facial marks and facial mutilation. I do have some mark on my face and its called incision, though very tiny, and still very cute. It wasn't for fashion or tribal thing, but according to the story I heard, I was told I do fall sick while still a baby. Then, my mum took me to a local healer who uses traditional methods and the marks where part of my treatment. Its just only me in my family, little lines on my face, wrist, chest, then lots on my left stomach. I do love them and proud of it. Makes me cute and unique in my own sense. To be sincere, I think the purpose was achieved because have not been sick since I learn how to pronounce "ONE". Anything bigger than mine is what I term 'facial mutilation'. #Proudlyafrican |

I don't know enough about the degree of similarity between these groups and other groups that identify as yoruba however. Igboid means related to Igbo. While Youruboid means related to Yoruba.. It now depends on the % relation. Mine is above 90% just as I quoted earlier.. But my geographical location is far more farther than the main Igbos across the Niger bridge. Thandolwethu: I start by imploring you to read this letter with an open and unbiased mind as this will enable you grab the full gist of my message. I am a full blooded South African, born and bread in Soweto. I have never been to Nigeria and my impression of your Country is formed by the behaviour and actions of the many Nigerians who live in SA and what we hear and read from the media about the goings on in your country. I deliberately joined Nairaland today as I noted that alot of you are on this Forum hence its a good platform to pass my message. Suffice it to say that i will delete this account after this message. I will read your responses with keen interest.
1. There is no question that there was xenophobic attack on Foreigners in SA in the past 3weeks. What is in doubt is the scale of the attack. I have noted that Nigerians have overtly blown the crises out of proportion by spreading lies and wrong informatiom concerning the crisis. The idea that South Africans are going round SA cities killing, maiming and burning Foreigners is a lie. Only 7 people have been killed so far and of these 7, 3 are south Africans, 2 Ethiopians and 2 Mozambican. The world media is in agreement with these figures. While its 7 lives too many that doesnt give credence to the news going round in Nigeria that we are killing and burning Foreigners. If thats true then there would be more people dead. STOP BELIEVING WHATYOU READ AND WATCH ON social media as most are lies and fabricated figments of the imaginations of mischievous Nigerians in other to stoke the flame of discord between Nigeria and SA.
2. Why are Nigerians up in arms against SA with xenophobia when the war in Nigeria is far worse than here in SA. Boko haram is killing thousands your people everyday and theres no end in sight meanwhile no Nigerian has been killed in this Xenophobic attack. That is why Nigerians throng our embassies in Lagos and Abuja seeking Visas to come to SA and escape the despicable living conditions in the slums of Nigeria.
3. This recent Xenophobic attack was predicated on the fact that Foreigners commit so much heinous crimes in SA without impunity and we are tired of all these. We have our own criminals here so we cant add more problems from foreigners. A. NIigerians are the kingpins of drugs killing our children and society. Your brothers drug our girls into prostitution. They con our people with fraud and 419. They hack into our bank accounts stealing millions.
B. Zimbabweans are involved in robberies and car hijackings
C. Mozambicans kill our farmers and take our jobs for peanuts leaving many South Africans jobless
D. Ethiopians and Somalians open shops to do illegal activities and pollute our communities. Theres a Somalian shop in every 2 houses on every street in SA. No Country can allow that.
SA has its own issues but we would like to solve them without the added problems of Foreign crimials.
If you like burn down shoprite and close MTN its your people that will suffer because these companies employ millions of Nigerians. They will simply go jobless.
Thank you

MTN, Shoprite etc are owned by whites, you lazy blacks in Soweto do "piece jobs". If the issue of boko haram comes to SA, you won't last as Nigeria lasted. We don't use drugs here in Nigeria but you guys are the addicts.. You created demand.. We just supplied. We use you as prostitute, cos that's exactly what you are. Just "kota" and a bottle of beer your lazy women open up their pucy. And what again!!! Yeah, I remember!!! The farm that was redistributed to the blacks was abandoned and all the animal died. During winter your men don't work but a Malawian or Mozanbican can work in 6degree Celsius. thanks I don't want to reply you with an insult likewise. Why was Ukwuani Language listed as one of the 27 languages as mode of teaching in Nigeria? Why wasn't it included as an Igbo Language. Listen here young man, Ukwuani people are an ethnic group with distinctive culture slightly different from the Igbo culture. We use Okparuku (oldest man) in the village as head of our clan. We dress like the Urhobos and Isokos. We refer ourself as Niger-Deltans cos we all dress the same way, but speak different language. Do you know the meaning of Igboid? It means relating to Igbo... So if I say I'm an Ukwuani man, just respect that and stop mentioning or quoting me. |
