OneNaira6: She's saying the same way you asking others to respect your wish to self identify as ukwuani, likewise, you should respect the wish of Ukwuani's, like the one you guys are talking, that identify as igbo. That's all she was saying. Honestly, I totally respect his wishes and point of view. It was the lady I was trying to get the meaning of what she said earlier. I'm an Ukwuani man, and I belong to the Igboid group. Thanks |

If I say I'm Igbo, it doesn't make me less proud to identify with my sub-group. I am from my sub-group first before I am Igbo.

Pharoh: This topic will never end when people don't take time to understand each other and respect the wishes of other people.
To my Ukwuani peeps, ukwuani is igboid together with other related family members because of similarities in our languages. Each group is unique and independent of each other but all together in one family that could be called igboid or igbo. It is the choice of every group to go about their unique names or choose to go with the family name. Even if you go with your unique name, the family name will always be with you but in the back corner. This is what ukwuani people have decided to do from time memorial but our choice has clearly not been understood or respected to this day and hence this argument. No ukwuani has ever denied being in a family relationship with the other groups but this alienation will continue if our choice is not respected. Thank you... Its just a simple logic. Respect my wish as an Ukwuani man... Then I shall tell you, I generally fall into the igboid family. |

How do you mean? He said he was Igbo from Ukwuani group. How is that not being proud of his culture or home town? Please do check the message you posted earlier. You said he didn't disclose his identity as an ukwuani man... That he said he's an igbo.. I can quote it if you want. If he says he's and igbo from Uknuani.. He's right.. He's an Ukwauni man and our language is 90% igboid. |

bigfrancis21: I refer to my Nsukka friends as 'ndi nsukka', or my owerri neighbour as 'onye owerri', that does't mean they are not Igbo. Does it?
If a man from chelsea refers to a man from manchester as 'you this mancunian boy', does it make the mancunian non-English?
Don't be deceived. It is all in your head. Your boss only refers to you by your ethnic sub-group. The same way he would say 'this anambra boy' had you been from anambra or 'ngwa' boy had you been from 'ngwa'. Heck, when I was in owerri, people would often call me 'anambra boy' once I spoke my dialect. That does not mean I am different from them. It is only a specifc identification of where in Igboland you're from. Well, you may not understand what I meant. My language is influenced with igbo, yoruba, bini, isoko... That does not make me any of those tribe. My language, I have told anybody that quoted me today is 90% igboid. We are an ethnic group also here in Nigeria and I can't incorporate myself into the lager igbo tribe. My language is listed along igbo, yoruba etc as the official teaching or national curriculum. Please, I want people to respect that. Thanks |

Ukwuani speaks same with of oguta in imo just like ika speaks with owerri Lol... Thanks. I'm not disputing the fact that our language is 90% igboid related. I just need people to know and respect my tribe. You can't call a Benue man Hausa... They might speak hausa or be closely related to them... That does not make them Hausa. |

veuttoutlemonde: Pls does Ukwuani language have a written one different from Igbo? No. We use the same vowels and consonant in writing. Just a bit different in pronunciation and spell. Some igbos spell imili (water) we say imiri. They say olisa (God) we say Orise or Olise. But we are 95% related in writing but a few difference in culture. We share a niger-delta food and dressing, which is way far different from the main igbos. |

This is not necessarily correct. There are several tribes within the group referred to as Igbo. There was no Igbo ethnic group, as we know it, before the Europeans came. I'm sure you guys know this but choose to state otherwise as it suits you. BTW Ukwuanis seeing themselves as non-Igbo is news to me. An Ukwuani suitor of mine claimed he was Igbo. Perhaps that was just a ploy. Its not a ploy. All I'm trying to say, we have a tribe, an ethnic group call Ukwauni... The language is 90% related to igbo, but we share same culture as the Itsekiris, Urhobos and the Isokos. We are a minority group in Nigeria, but a majority in Delta state because lots of people (about 7million) speak the language. So please, we prefer to be called what we are. "The one spoken by the majority of the people which is regarded the standard dialect is the Utagba dialect. It is easily understood by the speaker of the other dialects and it is the dialect that is used for Ukwuani language studies. Ukwuani language is also included in the list of 27 Nigerian languages approved by the Federal Government for the purpose of "mother tongue education". The Ukwuani culture is related to several culture in the Niger-delta but have more social and cultural affinities to the Igbo speaking people of Nigeria". |

To imagine so-called educated people are posting this kind of tribe gives me the jives! Tuffiakwa! The Itsekiris who are my neighbor do understand Yoruba and does that make them Yorubas? Do you know how many tribes you will jump before you get to asaba who share boundary with the Igbos. Guess you are the fool here. In the old Nigerian map, where was Bendel located? The brooms should not be left out...that is the "weapon", long coloured brooms should be hung at the President's "oval room"
That would be constant reminder of the liberations Nigerians have yearned for in the last 16 years. Can't wait for an open invitation for citizens to spend five minutes in that "forest" known as Aso Rock. Nonsense...i repeat...Nonsense PDP
