A combined team of policemen and men of the Department of State Services on Monday halted a peaceful procession of the Bring Back Our Girls group at the Independence Avenue, Abuja. The protesters, who were clad in red shirts and armed with placards, had taken off from the Unity Fountain, Maitama, with the aim of seeing President Muhammadu Buhari to demand an update on the abducted Chibok girls. However, on getting to the Independence Avenue which leads to Aso Rock, about 60 security agents formed a barricade, effectively preventing the protesters from proceeding. The BBOG had declared a 14-day line-up of activities to force Buhari to act more decisively in rescuing the Chibok school girls who have been in captivity for over 800 days. The co-convener of the group/former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, told the police that they had come to see the President, arguing that he is answerable to Nigerians who elected him into office. She also asked the policemen to allow the protesters to move closer. She said, “Who is the officer in charge of this command? The problem is that we still have our members on the highway. For many years, we have been advocating, we have never engaged in anarchy” However, the policemen did not allow the protesters to get beyond the Independence Avenue. The policemen, led by CSP Chuks Obasi, said they were acting under strict orders. Obasi subsequently approached Ezekwesili to explain his position, but she took offence, warning the senior officer to address her in civil manner. “Don’t point your finger at me. Respect me because I did not point my finger at you,” she said. In his response, Obasi said, “Well, I have my mandate and my mandate is to ensure that the protest does not assume a violent dimension.” The protesters therefore resorted to sitting on the road and playing protest music. Barely 72 hours after a trader, Joe Fortemose Chinakwe’s detention at the police for naming his pet dog after President Muhammadu Buhari, a woman, has named her dog after the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed. The woman, who goes by the name, Ada Ogbonna, caused a massive stir on the social media after she posted a photo of her carrying her dog. She shared this on her wall on Facebook on Thursday, saying she named the dog after someone she admires. She tagged the photo: “Meet my dog, Lai Mohammed. “I named it after someone I admired. I wonder why that other man got arrested for naming his dog after a look alike, na wa o.” Meanwhile, recall that the detained trader, Chinakwe explained that he had been an ardent supporter of the President and saw nothing wrong with his action. Upon his arrest, he had insisted: “I did not commit any offence. I named my beloved pet dog Buhari, who is my hero. My admiration for Buhari started far back when he was a military Head of State.” The 30-year-old trader has, however, since been released following the intervention of both the Serkin Hausa and President-General of non-indigenes in Ogun state. While some users lambasted the lady for her act, others said she was right as some of our leaders deserve to be called animals and other unprintable names. See reactions below: Tilo: “Some of our leaders deserve to be called animals. Dey behave as such and this is a kul idea. I go be nxt o, my snail will be Aisha Buhari.” Duke: “Me sef get dog wey be Nnamdi Kalu! Matty: “But this is so bad, have respect for God and leaders. People should grow up…madam u no get value for man eyes! Bola Tosin, “The reason is simple, you are yet to be caught… Just wait.” Kike Lucky: “Lmao…go girl! Lai has a name sake…But hope your Lai wldnt betray you like his counterpart?” Funnybone: “Hahahaha! So, so hilarious! Apc supporters oya kill yourselves. Friday Olokor, Abuja The Police have deployed mobile policemen to the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Office in Abuja, venue of the planned protest by former bodyguards to President Muhammadu Buhari who participated during the 2015 presidential campaigns. The Spokesperson of the group, Badiru Olabiyi Balogun, told THE PUNCH on Thursday, that his group will go ahead with the protest. He said, “Two truck loads of mobile policemen have been deployed to our campaign office. They said the instruction was that they should not allow us access to the office and that the people outside should not be allowed to go in. So, we are meeting there by 9:00 am this morning.” THE PUNCH had last week, reported that the same group had protested against their “exclusion” by those they described “cabals in the government.” They alleged that apart from the 20,000 they got on two occasions in January and February 2015, “we had never and were never given anything.” While some of them wept profusely because “some cabals have hijacked the President”, they said many of the key actors in Buhari’s government, who did not work for him “are now reaping where they did not sow” and have denied them access to him.
