A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday deferred ruling on the application of the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olisa Metuh to release his international passport to allow him travel abroad due to his failing health. Metuh through his counsel, Onyeachi Ikpeazu, SAN, had on May 16, 2016 filed a motion praying the court to allow him travel to the United Kingdom for proper medical attention. Metuh who is standing trial for allegedly receiving the sum of N400m from the former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki(rtd) could not make it to his last court sitting due to his health condition. Metuh was reported to have vomited blood while on his way to court. At today’s resumed trial, Ikpeazu informed the court that it had filed a better application still praying for the release of Metuh. However, contending with Ikpeazu’s submission, the lead prosecution, Slyvanus Tahir argued that the medical report is inadmissible and the court does not have the power to ask Metuh to submit his international passport to the country’s embassy outside the country. “The medical report is inadmissible and as such I urge the court to dismiss the application,” Tahir said. One Metuh’s counsel, Tochukwu Onwuibufor prayed the court to release his client’s passport because when the court ordered “the defendants bail, no objection was raised.” Justice Abang Okon in his ruling said, “I would have delivered ruling but its not possible because i have to study to better application by the defendant. “I will delivered ruling on the application on the 25th of May.” Abang, therefore, adjourned the matter till May 24 for continuation of trial. http://dailypost.ng/2016/05/23/court-defers-metuhs-application-asking-for-his-passport-to-be-released/

The Nigeria Police has explained why it sealed the the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, national office in Abuja. Force spokesperson, Bisi Kolawole, in a statement yesterday said intelligence at the disposal of the Force leadership indicated that some aggrieved factional leaders and members of the party had perfected plans to engage thugs from across the country to join them in threatening public peace and security in Abuja. This, she said, was sequel to the on-going intra-party leadership crisis in the party and further fallout of the recent political engagements of the Party. The statement said plan of the brains behind the development was to infiltrate Abuja and attack the Headquarters of the PDP with intent to forcefully occupy the facility. Continuing it said, “Towards perfecting this criminality, credible Police sources confirm that the actors will mobilise into Abuja with effect from Monday 23rd May 2016 and they intend to march through major streets in Abuja before proceeding to the PDP Secretariat to manifest their intention. “Consequently, the Inspector-General of Police has directed the deployment of Police assets to secure the PDP Secretariat and protect the staff until the threat to internal security that is being occasioned by the intra-party crisis within the PDP is stabilised. “The police action is a proactive initiative which is being placed in furtherance to the statutory mandate of the Nigeria Police to prevent breakdown in law and order and protect lives and property.” Arase, however, warned all actors in the crisis as well as their loyalists to refrain from any act that may threaten public order as the police shall deal promptly, firmly and decisively with such persons or group in line with their legal obligations. http://dailypost.ng/2016/05/23/why-we-sealed-pdp-national-headquarters-police/

The senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district, Sani Shehu, has ridiculed the threat by the Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to expel him from the party, noting that although he is a hundred percent supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, he will always air his opinion on issues in the country. The party had on Thursday accused Sani of anti-party conduct for criticizing the new price of fuel introduced by the federal government last week, which jacked up the pump price of the product from N86 to N145 per litre. Reacting to the threat on Friday through his Special Adviser on Politics and Ideology, Suleiman Ahmed, the senator described the party’s threat as mere hallucination. Sani said although he remained “one hundred percent a supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, but he is neither a sycophant nor a hypocrite who will not speak his mind when there is the need to do so.” He alleged that the state APC is a tool in hand of the Governor Nasir El-Rufai-led Kaduna government. He said, “It will be interesting for the general public to know that even the so-called state headquarters of the APC is a building owned by a top PDP chieftain in the state.” “The press conference and threat of expulsion made by one Tanko Wusono of Kaduna APC against comrade Senator Shehu Sani for objecting to the increase in pump price of petroleum products stands unambiguously condemned. “Kaduna APC as it exists today is simply an extension of El-Rufai’s government.” Cc: lalasticlala http://dailypost.ng/2016/05/20/although-i-support-buhari-im-not-a-sycophant-sani/

A presenter on Television Continental, TVC, Wale Fakile, has reportedly been arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. Fakile, who co-presents ‘Trends’ and the popular, ‘Question Time’, was arrested on Thursday after he left his girlfriend, identified only as Mandy with many bruises after an alleged brutal assault. Mandy had exposed her boyfriend on Facebook and he was reportedly arrested after a Facebook user received a distress message from her. Mandy’s post on Facebook reads: “I am Mandy, my supposed boyfriend that works with TVC, beat me yesterday to stupor with bruises all over and he said there is nothing I can do about it because he is rich and works with TVC and am poor. The case was said to have been reported to the Ministry of Women Affairs and the Management of TVC. A source at TVC, Lagos state, hinted DAILY POST that the allegation was seemingly true. The source who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our reporter, “Yes, I think it is true because my attention was drawn to the situation a while ago. “Fakile and his manager, a female, just came into our office (at Ikosi, Ketu) to meet with the management. “We are at a standstill at the moment because if upon investigation, it is really true as it seems, then…” the source stopped. The Njiko Igbo Forum, NIF, Wednesday threw it’s weight behind the industrial action declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, over the removal of fuel subsidy. This is even as a faction of the workers has backed out of the strike. Speaking in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST, President of NIF, Rev. Okechukwu Obioha described the present administration as “a government of fraud and rigmarole.” He stated that the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration had failed in fulfilling in any of its campaign promises. While urging the Ayuba Waba led NLC to ignore the industrial court’s ex-parte order, Obioha said “we can’t be talking of any court injunction because this is a government that does not respect rule of law. “It has flouted so many judgements and orders of court; so we can’t be here talking about the black-market injunction obtained by the AGF. “Courts of competent jurisdiction gave orders for the release of Nnamdi Kanu as well as Sambo Dasuki but the government never obeyed it; the President started giving reason why the order will not be obeyed; there is also order against electricity tariff increase, it was never obeyed. “So, we are calling on all Nigerians to sit at home in protest; all the desperate measures by government to stop the strike should not be allowed. “It is even quite curious that this same government is now recognizing Ajaero faction; the situation is like a lady who is good for friendship but not good for marriage. These are desperate measures.” The Igbo group further accused President Buhari of trying to silence the voice of opposition, stressing that “the government is confused; it has no direction; that’s why they don’t want anybody to talk. We are no longer practising democracy, we have a pseudo-military administration. “There is so much dishonesty on the part of this government; so much fraud against the masses and this is the time to resist it.” http://dailypost.ng/2016/05/18/we-are-behind-workers-buhari-is-running-government-of-fraud-igbo-forum/
